Present Day

"Axel? Are you okay?", Twilight asks, waving a hoof in front of your face.

You stutter, "Yeah, just having a flashback...."

You then look over to the two crossbows as Mom sighed, "I'm afraid they didn't make it. Quickbolt is gone....they're all gone."

You try to believe it, but you can't....after all you've two been through. Your friend, the only friend who is closer to you than Twilight, gone......you still have her voice echoing in your ears:

"If we make it through this, I want ye to write a book about our adventures together, okay?"

"Okay....I promise.", was what you had said.

You didn't plan on breaking that promise anytime soon.

"Twilight, I need some paper and a pen now.", you said quietly.

"Why?"

You smiled a sad smile, "Sit back all of you, and I'll tell you about my adventures with some of the greatest heroes in Equestria: The Misfits."

You pick up the pen and began writing.

Chapter 1

The Night Cap of Nature

It was a bright sunny day in Canterlot, too sunny as a matter of fact. You were bored, Redheart being busy, tossing your hat and letting it come back to you as you lounged in the shade on a balcony.

"Axel! I brought lemonade!", Mom shouted, grabbing your attention from the horizon, which for some reason was turning red.

"Aww, thanks, Mom!", you smiled, taking a glass.

But she never said anything, her face was pale, and you turned to see what she was looking at. Buildings were burning, ponies were panicking, being caught and tossed into cages by goblins and orcs. And leading them was something you thought you would never see: Tirek.

He saw you looking at him and shouted, "Princesses! Surrender the one you call 'Axel F' to me now....or I'll come up there and get him myself! I don't need him in one piece!"

Mom looked at you with tears in her eyes before shouting, "Axel! Go! Hide in the Everfree! Don't look back, and don't come back for me!"

"But Mom..."

She picked you up with her magic and hurled you towards the Everfree, "Go!!!"

As you went flying, you started to black out, but before you did, you saw Tirek leap up and smack Mom against the wall, Aunt Celestia coming to her rescue, only to be overpowered.

Tears started to form, "Mom...."

You started to wake up, your arm hurt a lot, and so did your head. You woke up in what looked like the inside of a tree. There was furniture inside, and it looked pretty cozy. You looked out the window to see your white shirt, red coat, and your hat hanging on a clothesline.

Bandages were wrapped around your abdominal area, and you looked at your right arm, which now was replaced with a wooden arm.

"Some Timberwolves got a hold of ye while ye were unconscious, I'm afraid I couldn't save your arm.", said a female voice with a Scottish accent.

You turn to the doorway to see a tan unicorn mare with orange hair and green eyes, and a quiver for a cutie mark. You also take note that her ears are pointier then most ponies'.

"Well, at least you saved me....what kind of wood is this?", you chuckled, knocking on your arm, "It's not oak..."

She answered, "It's Quicksilver Wood! The wood is enchanted, so it's waterproof, and won't crack. My name is Quickbolt by the way, what's yours?"

"I'm Axel F. But you can call me Axel. Thanks again for the help.", you smile, extending your hand and shaking her hoof.

"Cmon! You must be hungry! Ye can tell me all about how you wound up in the Everfree!", Quickbolt smiled back, leading you to the dining room.

An hour later, you explained your situation to her.

"Oh dear...that's not good. With the power he has now, the only way to defeat him now would be with the Hats of Harmony....", Quickbolt sighed, sipping a cup of tea.

"Do you mean like the Elements of Harmony?", you asked.

She replied, "Sorta....except the hats keep the Natural Elements in check. You know, Water, Fire, Nature, Sand, Air, and Earth."

You then get up, and go outside to grab your clothes.

"Where are ye going?", Quickbolt asked, following you outside.

You turn to her and reply, "I need to get those hats and stop Tirek! Who knows what he's doing to Mom, Aunt Celestia, Cousin Cadance and.....Redheart! I need to save them!"

"Well ye ain't going by yourself, that's for sure! You'll need help! And there's no better help than an Elven Archer!", she smiled, pulling two crossbows out of thin air.

You sighed, "Very well. But it's gonna be dangerous!"

"Please! I've seen worse, besides! I know where the first hat is! The Night Cap of Nature!", she groaned, tugging on your pant leg.

You smile, "Well then! Lead the way, Mighty Bowslinger!"

"Don't get sarcastic with me! If this is like those 'Dungeons and More Dungeons' games we all played as kids, and if I'm an Elven Archer, what's that make you?", she asked.

You had to think about that for a minute, "I'm a Hat Hero."

Quickbolt scoffed, shooting an arrow into the tree in front of her, "That's not a thing!"

You tossed your hat, jumped on it, grabbed the arrow, did a flip, and caught the hat in your left hand.

"Dang....."

"Let's keep on going, shall we?", you smiled.

You walked for about 45 minutes until you reached an abandoned temple, with a picture of a night cap carved in green on the door.

"Well! Here it is!", Quickbolt smiled, as you two stood in front of the temple.

You looked up and saw a giant mast with a giant sail on the roof, "What's that for?"

She looked up at the sail, "This is a Flying Temple. If you dug deep enough, you'd find giant propellers too. There used to be dozens of them. But this is the last one. Well, what now, genius? After we grab the hat out of the vault, we'll be stuck here in the Everfree. It's not like we can get this scrap heap to fly anyway!"

"Or can we?", you ask yourself, your instinct leading you to the bridge.

On the bridge, you find the control panel. You flip a few switches, and start to feel a rumbling in the ground.

Quickbolt came running in, "You better hurry with whatever you're doing, cause we have some big old orcs coming our way! And they're after you!"

"Dang!", you shout, the control board started whistling and beeping, as the temple started raising out of the ground.

In about 2 minutes, you were 50 feet off the ground, and there was nothing the orcs could do. It took about 15 minutes to get to a gentle cruising altitude.

"So....now what? So we were lucky! How'd you even get this scrap pile to fly?", Quickbolt asked, checking to make sure the night cap was in the vault.

You smiled, "We head west. We're after the Sombrero of Sand next! And with M.I.F.T, we'll be there in no time!"

"What? Not even a day, and you've named it? What's that even supposed to mean?", she asked.

"Mysterious Incredible Flying Temple! Isn't that right, M.I.F.T?", you smiled, patting the control board.

It made two clicks and a beep.

"M.I.F.T, set a course for the Dry Up Desert!"

This time, "he" made two beep and a whistle.

"What have I roped myself into.....If we make it through this, I want ye to write a book about our adventures together, okay?", she chuckled, leaning against your leg.

"Okay....I promise.", you smiled, ruffling her mane.
