The Adventures of Axel F

Present Day...

You had been sitting there talking with your mother for about 20 minutes, when your marefriend, Nurse Redheart came into the room.

"Axel! You're awake! Oh!! How are you feeling?", she asked, rushing to your side and covering you with kisses.

You smiled, kissing her back, "A lot better now that you're here!"

"Oh, Axel! Even when you've almost been burnt to a crisp, you still know how to make a mare feel pretty.", Redheart beamed, nuzzling you.

"What are you talking about? You're beautiful!", you insist, taking her hoof into your new metal arm (More on that later!).

Red heart giggled, "Oooh....you've got a cold grip!"

"See? Doesn't it feel better to have a metal arm than a wooden one? Not to mention, it won't catch on fire!", Mom grinned, taking a sip of her tea.

Then, your very best friend in the world, Twilight and her friends came in.

"Oh, Axel! You're alright! We're sorry about your coat....but at least your hat is okay!", Twilight smiled, hugging you.

You laugh as you remember when you first discovered the true potential of your magic hat.....

4 Years Ago....

"Mom...", you say, putting on the fedora you got for your 13th birthday, "Where'd you get this hat? I've never seen it in any of the stores around here."

She smiled, "The only place I bother buying hats....Handy Hats! In fact, I've arranged for you to go see the owner. He's got a couple of tricks to teach you with your hat."

"What?!?", you stutter, choking on your drink.

Mom laughed, "You'll see....Cousin Cadance will be taking you there!"

Five minutes later, you and Cadance stand in front of a very small store on one of the highest buildings in Manehatten, the sign saying, "Handy Hats".

"Well! Here we are if you need me, I'll be in the mall! Okay? I'll see you later!", Cadance smiled, nuzzling your side.

"Later!", you reply, before walking into the store.

Inside the store, there are all kinds of hats, plumber caps, top hats, bowlers, and about 20 more fedoras just like yours.

A wrinkly old stallion with a bowler on smiled, "Ahh....Master Axel! I see your mother wants me to teach you how to use a 'Faithful Fedora'. Well, let's begin! You see those cans over there?"

You look to your right and see a stack of cans, "Yeah?"

"Throw your hat at it.", he smiled slyly.

"What?", you ask.

"Throw your hat at the cans! Try it!"

You sigh, "Okay...."

You flick your wrist, but instead of just dropping to the floor, it flew straight at the cans, knocked them over, and flew back into your hand. You stare at your hat for a bit before shouting, "Awesome!!!"

The old stallion smiled, "Now....see that book up on the ceiling? Can you get that? Don't aim at the book, just throw it straight out."

You followed his instructions and threw it just like last time, but this time, it went about a foot forward before floating in the air.

"Now what?", you asked.

"Your will remain there until you do one of two things. You can raise your left hand to call it back, or you can jump on it.", he answered.

You stared at him, "You're kidding? Right?"

"Try it."

You went to the back of the store, took a running start, jumped, launched yourself off the hat, and grabbed the book.

"Sweet! Is there anything else I should know?", you asked, raising your left hand to catch the hat and put it back on.

He smiled, "That's all I have to teach you! But...maybe you'll teach yourself a few things.....take very good care of that hat!"

"I will, sir!", you beamed, walking out of the store.

Cadance was waiting for you, "So? What did you learn?"

You smiled mischievously, "Race you to the train station!"

You threw your hat towards the large gap between the two skyscrapers, ran, and jumped, launching yourself off the hat and landing on the next building.

Cadance screamed, "Axel!!!"
