Chapter One: Different Ways

Detective Twilight Sparkle stood at her table, a big thick book laying on top of it. Eyes redshot, bags purple, and mane messy. A yawn escaped her mouth, eyes flickering shut, but she snapped her eyes back open.

"No! Come on Twilight! Your almost there!"

Twilight faught the delight and pleasure of sleep, purple eyes scrolling to the final page. Twilight clenched her teeth, fighting a yawn that was desperate to escape her throat. Lucky for herself, she was a tough mare. As Twilight read the last sentence in her head, she used her magic to close the book.

Twilight finally let herself yawn. "Book Twenty".

Twilight rubbed her eyes with her hoof, yawning again. " I can sleep peacefully now that I have finished my reading."

"Will you?"

Twilight turned around and saw Pinkie walking down the stairs. Pinkie Pie was Twilight's adoptive cousin, best friend, and partner. Pinkie had simple blue eyes, a pink coat, pink and puffy cotton candy like hair, and a tail to match.

Twilight however had a pink and purple mane, a tail to match, a purple coat, and purple eyes. Even though they were adoptive cousins, Twilight couldn't help the fact and wonder how much they contrast.

"Of course. Why wouldn't I?"

Pinkie walked to her and rubbed her eyes. "All that "reading books twenty times a day" thing is clouding up your brain so much that you have not been sleeping peacefully at night for months!"

Twilight shook her head. "You don't know what your talking about Pinkie. I sleep perfectly fine at night. I dream about clouds, sunshine, rainbows....."

"And books." Pinkie interrupted.

Twilight tried to respond, but her throat closed. She tried again, this time harder, and a response finally came from her throat. "Okay, yes, I really love to read, but that doesn't stop me from sleeping or anything! Can't you understand that reading is an absolute wonderful thing!? That it strengthens your knowledge and thinking process?!"

Pinkie, despite being yelled at by her cousin, her only family, didn't flinch. Pinkie did nod slightly at Twilight's exclamation. "Reading is a wonderful thing. It's great. But you read twenty thick books a day before and after our cases are complete. It makes you irrational, Twilight."

Twilight narrowed her eyes. "You wouldn't understand."

Pinkie avoided looking at Twilight. "Cause I'm stupid?"

Twilight almost felt a gasp escape from her throat. "Your not stupid, Pinkie."

"I feel stupid."

"C.....Come on Pinkie....this isn't you!"

"This isn't you either Twilight!"

Twilight successfully faught a gasp that was desperately trying to escape her throat. Pinkie hardly ever yelled no matter what. Even if Twilight was acting ludicrous, Pinkie would try to keep her cool. However, Twilight noticed that no one can stay that calm every day. Even she can't.

Twilight sighed. "Pinkie, I assure to you that everything is fine. I have no nightmares, no sleeping problems, and I don't dream about books." Twilight formed a fake smile, trying to give Pinkie a sign that everything was alright. Pinkie wasn't fooled for a second. Did Twilight think she was stupid enough to fall for a fake smile? Was she just a joke to her? Pinkie clenched her eyes shut, trying to avoid the bloody anger that will gaze at Twilight's direction. Pinkie felt like the hot steam will burn out of her, hurting Twilight verbally and often being the defensive. But like always, Pinkie tried to keep her cool. Pinkie tried to relax herself mentally so it can be already out physically.

After a few moments, Pinkie finally inhaled and exhaled, eyes opening. Pinkie was finally satisfied and sure that her eyes were not turning red. It was something Pinkie had. When angered, her eyes would turn bloody red, her pupils bright yellow, and fire like lights surrounding her eyeballs. But that's only when she's really angry. Once she breathed in and out a few times and practice things she used for herself to keep calm like mentally breathing in and out, meditation, or even saying different calming words that could easily become her mantra, her anger would simply decrease and her eyes would turn back to blue.

With a sigh, Pinkie's blue eyes gazed back at Twilight with a frown on her face. "Whatever you say, Twilight." With that, Pinkie walked slowly away from Twilight and headed upstairs. Once Pinkie was out of sight, Twilight used her magic to place the book back on the shelf, making sure she had it at the correct spot on where she previously had it. Twilight was too tired now to head upstairs to her bedroom, so she decided to crash onto the couch. Before she could get comfortable, a bright light came from a mysterious object that was on the kitchen table. Twilight galloped towards it and pressed different buttons to activate it. Once activated, she saw a white alicorn with rainbow colorful hair, a yellow crown, and bueatiful eyes.

"Princess Celestia hey. What are you doing up so late?"

Princess Celestia gave her a serious look. "This is important, Twilight."

"How important?"

"I want you and your partner to here this. Get her down here."

Twilight looked confused for a moment before shrugging to herself. "Pinkie! Please come down here! Princess Celestia wants you down here!"

Almost immediately, hoof steps can be heard. Pinkie walked down the stairs, past Twilight, without a word. As Pinkie was standing by Twilight, Pinkie's eye began to twitch. Pinkie was nervously biting her lip, tasting some of the blood that she tasted from her lip. It didn't taste gross to her cause she has nervously bit her lip hard so many times that she has gotten use to the warm tasting of her blood.

"So Celestia, what is so important that-"

"It's a case Twilight."

Twilight was taken a back when Princess Celestia had interrupted her.

"What is it?"

Princess Celestia hesitated. Twilight was now curious. It must be something really bad.

"Princess, everything okay?"

Princess Celestia closed her eyes and began to talk softly. "It's a murder case, Twilight."

Twilight was even more curious and before. She has been through murder cases before. "I've been through this Princess. What could be so horrible?"

"The pony who was murdered was your old friend, Twilight."

"MoonDancer," Pinkie says with a whisper. Twilight's eyes widened, tears suddenly rolling down her face. Pinkie gave a side way glance towards Twilight, looking at the young mare sobbing slightly. Pinkie finally found a response that was willing to escape her throat.

"Twilight.... it's okay."
Twilight wiped her tears away from her eyes, and once they were gone, her stare was filled with absolute anger and fury. "We have to go. Right now!"

"But-"

Twilight interrupted her cousin. "Right. Now."

Pinkie sighed and nodded. Without no signs, Twilight turned the mysterious object off and opened the door with her horn, slamming it open. She levitated her saddle bag and placed it on her back.

"Hey Twi, wanna wear those hats we wore when we were younger?" Pinkie really wanted to calm Twilight down, but to no advil. "No Pinkie! We need to leave now!"

"But Twilight, our childhood-"

"WERE NOT KIDS ANYMORE, PINKIE! GROW UP!" With that, Twilight galloped out of the door with ultimate speed and anger.

Pinkie picked up a picture of Twilight and Pinkie when they were younger. They were smiling, playing detective, and they were wearing their hats that Pinkie had mentioned.

"-will be destroyed." Pinkie sighed and galloped towards the door, only to catch up to Twilight.

On the other side of town, the windy breeze crept into the small apartment. A young white unicorn with blue eyes, a purple mane, and a tail to match was on the couch eating vegetarian chicken wings while watching television on her flat screen t.v. in the living room. She looked very interested into what she was watching. Her name was Rarity.

"I know the answer."

"I hate Mexico!" Rarity guessed.

"Lyra?"

"I hate Mondays."

"Lyra, you are correct!"

The t.v. screen then showed streamers and balloons floating from the sky and onto the ground, hammering in the point that Lyra had won. Music was also playing as Lyra danced around happily.

"What?! 'I hate Mondays' is not even a phrase! I swear to Celestia that this game is rigged!" Rarity exclaimed, a little over dramatically. Suddenly, the television was switched off of the game show.

"We interrupted this program with some breaking news."

Rarity's eyes shot up with interest and amusement. "This should be good."

"We heard that Ponyville residence Moon Dancer has been murdered hours ago. There were no clues of who could murder such a warmhearted, loving, intelligent, and sweet unicorn."

"A murder case? This could be absolutely amusing." Rarity used her horn to levitate the remote and turn up the volume.

"Her disappearance, her murder, things that happened before than. Most of it is a blur and we don't have any clues about anything. No evidence either. But if you even have the slightest idea of who had done it and where the body is, always inform the police and let justice serves us all."

Rarity used her magic to mute the television to think out loud and concentrate. "Like those ruffians would do anything useful to solve a case! How will a detective for fun be more skilled and trained than the police force?! Whatever! I think it's time for another episode of 'Rarity Investigates'!"

Before Rarity could leave, she heard footsteps coming from the stairs.

"Where are you going?"

Rarity smiled a genuine smile towards her younger brother. Before Rarity could respond, her brother walked towards Rarity. He had green spikes, emerald eyes, and was a purple dragon. Confusing that they are siblings.

"Well Spike, I'm-"

Spike deadpanned. "Wait a minute. Your going on your little investigating thing are you?"

Rarity began to wine. "It's called 'Rarity investigates'! 'RRRRRRRRRRarity Investigates'!"

Spike rolled his eyes. "Whatever. Don't ya think this is stupid?"

Rarity smirked. "Oh I see what your going for."

"What are you talking about?"

Rarity walked a few inches towards Spike and looked him playfully in the eyes. "You care about your sister......"

Spike moved away from Rarity, crossing his arms and placed the must disgust look on his face. "Ewww...gross."

Rarity's ears shot up. Spike's voice was cracking. "Spike, are you worried about my safety?"

Spike didn't answer.

"Spike."

No answer.

"Spike Wikey!!!!!!"

Rarity doesn't call Spike that hardly anymore. That alone made it easier for him to talk. "Yes okay. I care about you and your safety. Going to make fun of me?"

Rarity stared at him than smiled. "Why would I ever do that? I care about you too, you dult." As she says this, she hits him behind the head. "Now let's go. Wanna ride on my back?"

Spike shrugged. "Okay. Let the 'Rarity Investigates' arc begin."

Rarity levitated Spike and placed him on her back. "Great. But remember........ It's 'Rarity Investigates! Rar......I......ty..... Investigates. 'RRRRRRRRRRRaity investigates!' Come on! It's not hard!" Rarity then galloped out of the door, heading into the night.

The shadows of the night is now normal in the world of Equestria. It seemed like yesterday when there was no such thing as death or murder or sexually assault in Equestria. But that was a long time ago.

Twilight and Pinkie was walking in a large apartment building where Moon Dancer lived. Twilight memorized what room she lived in and Pinkie was the perfect partner for stealth and lookout. However, the two didn't say anything to each other because of what happened back at the house.

As the two reached the door, Twilight used her magic to open the door. Inside, it was really dark and the two mares could hardly see anything. Twilight used her horn to light the room a bit, but not too much light to strain there eyes. Twilight looked and gazed at everything she saw. From books, to pictures, to objects. She, however, didn't see anything.

Pinkie tried looking for any blood or weapon or signs of murder or assault. She didn't see any. Twilight sighed and decided to speak to Pinkie. "Maybe we need more light." Twilight lit up her horn, using even more light.

"There. That should be enough light."

"Oh I assure you that's too much light darling." Twilight and Pinkie's eyes shot up and turned around where they had heard the voice. Next thing they knew, they were facing a white unicorn and a purple dragon on her back.

"AHHHHHH!"

"AHHHHH!!!!"

"AHHHHH!!!!!!!"

"AHHHH!!!!!!"

Pinkie then finally smiled. "That's fun. Ahhhhh....."
