Mocha Jon was not exactly known as a ‘special’ unicorn in comparison to ponies like the Elements of Harmony. He never managed to save Equestria or send a villain to a place with flames and horned red men. As his name suggests, he was simply just a simple barista who worked boring hours at a coffee shop. As a colt he often admired many types of heroes including Royal Guards or the self made rugged stallions he hears about in stories. As a rather impulsive pony, he often thinks before thinking things through, and when he gets the idea to wander into the Everfree Forest, he will do it.

As a colt, after going on a camping trip with his family to celebrate him getting his cutie mark, he saw a cute little squirrel outside of his tent and with him being as impulsive as he is, he followed it way too far and got lost. Before he threw a comically over the top expression of panic screams, “I WANT TO LIVE I WANT TO LIVE!!!”, he noticed another pony not too far from him. Upon further inspection, he noticed this stallion was an old fashioned lumberjack, flannel, working jeans, an axe, the works. The strong woodspony noticed the lost stallion and almost in instinct, detected the lost colt and rushed to help him out. After a brief discussion of how Mocha Jon hated his coffee cutie mark, he was shocked to find the lumberjack pony’s cutie mark was not an axe, but a cheeseburger! The lumberjack, while guiding the lost colt back to his tent, explained that no matter what his cutie mark was, he could still aspire to more than one talent. In Jon’s eyes, that self made stallion, was more of a hero than any Element of Harmony ever could be.

Flash forward to the present, the impulsive, impressionable stallion decides on a whim to walk into the everfree forest just to prove he could handle it. At first Mocha Jon had this simple ‘I can face anything!’ attitude, as he was dodging these long branches like they were an obstacle course. His gymnastics lessons as a colt were definitely not a waste of money. However the first time a spider lands on his shoulder and he goes from Double O‘Spresso to Mission Impossible… “AH AH AHH!!! GET IT OFF OF ME GET AWAY!!!” and started running away with no direction or sense of pacing… Needless to say it did not exactly end well… Especially when he knocked himself down after hitting a large branch… After he managed to pick himself up and shake the leaves off his mane, “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up…” He sarcastically said.

After checking his bearings, he looked around and noticed he was completely lost. “Oh dangit, I knew I should have brought the Pre School Safety rope…” He said as he looked at his compass and saw which was was North. “What do you know, North is 46 degrees left of here, though it would help if I knew if the exit was north or not…” He said as he cartoonishly threw his compass far away.

“Ouch…” He heard somepony say in the distance.

He looked around and wondered where that came from, and it sounded like it came from where he threw the compass. “How did that manage to hit anypony, one nopony should be out here, and two, I’m not that good at throwing?” He asked as he walked forward past some bushes and brushed himself off. “Hello?” He asked as he noticed two ponies standing by a tree, one was standing backwards so he couldn’t tell what he looked like, but he noticed the other had on flannel, jeans, working boots, and he had a thin brown beard.

That pony himself looked over and discovered the new pony “Somepony out there?” He asked as he turned his head and saw the cyan unicorn.

As Mocha Jon got closer, he could tell the ponies were lumberjacks, if the clothes weren’t enough of a signal, the smell of sweat gave it away. At that epiphany Mocha totally lost all his internal fear and began to fanboy out in front of him… “Oh my gosh Oh my gosh Oh my gosh!!! Real live lumberjacks! I love you guys! I’m Mocha Jon, it’s great to see you!!!” He said as he looked at him with puppy dogish eyes.

The lumberjack could tell instantly that the pony was not the strongest or most acclimated to the woods just by the sight of him. “Well, hi there, I’m Woody, eeyup I’m a lumberjack, nice to meet ya, that’s my friend Sweat Stain over there,” The pony said as he pointed to the stallion in the unicorn to the other lumberjack.

The other pony turned around and waved at the visitor, “Oh Howdy! What brings ya out here?” He asked as he made his way over to him. Upon a close inspection the stallion looked somewhat familiar. He had white fur and there appeared to be a blue mane underneath his wool cap. His voice was also familiar, though there was a bit of a country drawl to it it was definitely notable.

“Hold up… Shining Armor?” He asked as he tried to get a good look at the stallion to see if it was really him, and Woody was looking a bit nervous, “I thought you were doing some sort of business in the Everfree Forest, I mean that’s what you told me in your pen pal letter last time you wrote me?” He asked as he was wondering why a royal Prince would wear such clothing.

The stallion seemed confused by that remark, wondering what the heck he was talking about, “Um, I’m sorry? My name’s Sweat Stain, no clue who this Shining Armor is.”

Mocha Jon looked confused and maybe even a bit suspicious at that comment, wondering why Shining would try and hide his identity like this. Woody also seemed like he was about to take drastic measures with the unicorn… “Wait I get it… You’re undercover! Now I understand!” He said as he tapped him playfully on the shoulder. Sweat Stain looked a bit confused wondering what he was talking about, but when he looked over at Woody he just nodded once in a demanding way.

“Uh, yeah, you got me!” He nervously said trying to finish it. “I really like to stay in character.”

Mocha Jon chuckled and sighed in relief, “Don’t worry bud, you’re secret’s safe with me!” He said as he did the signature ‘zip it lock it and put it in your pocket’ move.

Woody got in between the two to break the tension, “Hey, we were about to head back to the cabin for flapjacks, why don’t ya join us?” He asked as Sweat Stain nodded in agreement.

“Oh gosh Woody over here makes the best flapjacks ever! Like even by lumberjack standards!” He added.

Mocha Jon squeed in excitement, “Oh gosh I would love that! I want to get the full lumberjack experience! Take me there!” He said as he hopped up in excitement.

“Great! Plus you can meet our roommate Stinky Boots and our dog, I think they might like you.” Woody added as he pointed his way towards the house. Sweat Stain and Mocha Jon followed easily.

Mocha Jon knew he couldn’t stay forever but he sure as heck was not going to pass up on meeting true lumberjacks like he always dreamed of. One night wasn’t going to hurt anything after all. “Sounds great! I mean I love dogs and… Okay pause... you have a friend named Stinky Boots?”
