Woodsponies
Chapter 2
Previous ChapterNext ChapterBack at the cabin, a large red stallion wearing clothing similar to the ones the two lumberjacks was sitting on the porch swing seemed to be a bit sore, he was bending down and holding his leg as if he had hurt it earlier. It was embarrassing having to sit out the day while his friends got to do all the fun stuff. After he tried shaking it off again and attempting to stand up, he could not walk very far and the pain was too much for him. The red stallion sighed and went to sit back down.
Before he knew it he heard loud panting from behind him and looked over and noticed the large yellow dog the lumberjacks had, and instantly all his sadness went away. The large dog just had something about him that made the big pony feel like he was safe and with someone he always knew. “Thanks for keeping me company bud, could always count on ya to cheer me up.” He told the large dog who just sat at the pony’s feet happily, understanding that he made him feel good, which made him feel even better. After the dog barked a little bit, the red stallion heard something in the distance and saw his friends were coming back. “Well that didn't take too long, usually you guys are out till sundown,”
The two lumberjacks chuckled and responded with a casual, “Well we found this pony out in the woods and thought we’d help him out. He’s kind of small, and his horn is super small and he… Hey, where’d he go?” Sweat Stain began before turning around noticing the cyan unicorn was not following them… Or so he thought…
Mocha Jon was seen crawling slowly, looking out of breath and about to topple over, “Oh gosh… Oh gosh… That was… That was a long walk… I can’t… I can’t...” He said as he cartoonishly fell over on his face. He never was known much for his stamina, even with things he was skilled at like skating, he always felt winded after a few minutes.
The red stallion looked over and noticed his condition, “Wow, are ya alright there? Do you need any help?” He asked as he tried to stand up.
Mocha Jon shrugged it off rather easily however, after catching his breath he got back on his feet and found himself looking over at the red stallion. “Oh no, few, Oh no, I’m fine. Just needed to catch my breath, so you must be Stinky Boots huh?” He asked as he looked at the red stallion and recognized him more directly. He could tell the third lumberjack was Big Macintosh with little distractions. However seeing Big Macintosh was less surprising than seeing Shining Armor out here, being a farmer he probably had connections to lots of other country ponies. “Hey, what are you doing here?” He tried to ask.
Stinky Boots just winced an eye in confusion but shrugged his shoulders, “Well I was gonna help these guys out like always but I hurt my leg this mornin’ and had to sit today out.” He responded, completely misunderstanding what Mocha Jon meant. “I could ask ya the same question too, what brings a pony like ya out to the Everfree Forest?”
Mocha Jon blushed out in embarrassment a little bit, “Well honestly it was pure impulse of me to walk out here, I heard some fillies talking at my shop earlier about daring each other to come out here and I got the idea.” He said as he awkwardly scratched his arm nonchalantly.
Woody was surprised that a grown stallion would do something so childlike, “I know you aren’t as big as us but that really wasn’t the smartest thing to do… There are some things out here that can happen to a simple pony like you…” Woody said, almost sounding a little suspicious towards the end.
Mocha Jon rolled his eyes at that comment, “Yeah yeah yeah, evil monsters, strange spells, cursed chipmunks yadda yadda yadda… I’ve heard it all before.” He said as he looked back at Big Mac, “Okay I gotta ask, dude why are you letting these guys call you Stinky Boots? That seems more embarrassing than my impulse.”
Woody’s more suspicious expression returned to his face as he explained, “Well due to how hard he works he’s worked up quite a sweat in those boots of his… I bet ya could smell ‘em from right where ya standin’...” The lumberjack said, almost as if he was insinuating something.
“Not really, I have a really weak sense of smell, my nose basically just comes and goes, so really I have no clue and… Wow!” Mocha Jon responded initially until he was accosted by the yellow dog who started happily lapping his face… even though the dog managed to knock the unicorn to the ground cartoonishly. “You must be their dog.” He said as he struggled to gain balance back and stand up. “You’re so cute!”
Stinky Boots nodded and signaled the dog back over to him, “Eeyup, he’s a really good boy, he kind of reminds me of me really.”
Mocha didn’t really know what to say so he broke the tension with a light sarcastic remark, “Really? Aren’t yellow apples the rarest color of them all?” However the earth pony did not understand what he meant by that and just looked confused. “Okay someday you will learn to understand my humor.” He said as his stomach started to grumble a little, “Hey Woody, you mentioned something about making flapjacks?”
Sweat Stain nodded in agreement and Stinky Boots seemed to agree with that idea, “Well that does sound good actually, ya gonna use your usual method Woody?” Stinky Boots asked.
“No way, we have a guest, he needs to use the name brand ingredients in the top shelf!” Sweat Stain interrupted as he started to make his way inside, with the dog, Stinky Boots and Mocha Jon quickly following. “I’ll have three!”
“I’ll have four!” Stinky Boots responded.
“I’ll have a dozen!” Mocha Jon added as they all went inside, with Woody staying outside walking in slowly before looking at the cyan unicorn through the window… “Weak sense of smell huh? Hehe, looks like I’m gonna need to take my time with this one…” He said as a strange grin appeared on his face before joining the other stallions inside.
