Chapter 2: One Week Later

A week had passed since Hoyt appeared in Equestria, and a lot has happened. Starting off with quick recap, in the past week Hoyt has moved into Ponyville and was starting to slowly settle in. The ponies were a little wary of him at first, like REALLY wary. For the first four days they'd run away at the faintest sight of him. A few, namely a mint green unicorn, were able to come out of their shells and approach him, only to find out their fear was misplaced. Which leads us to the second thing that happened, Hoyt was approached by the Princess of the sun herself, she was a lot nicer than he thought she'd be, like a LOT. She, thankfully, showed sympathy to his plight, and offered to grant him full citizenship and help him integrate into pony society, on the one condition, he has to write her a 'Friendship Report' once a month. The Friendship Reports he's suppose to write are very similar to the ones Twilight wrote, the main difference is, Celestia was more interested in what happened between Hoyt and his friends, rather than what he learned.

Hoyt, of course, agreed and that leads us to the third thing, the party. Scared the living hell out of Hoyt, you're probably wondering how a party scared him. Well it wasn't the party itself, so much as it was the way it was presented. Hoyt was just walking back into the castle, minding his own business, when out of nowhere the little pink devil, named Pinkie Pie, popped out of no where and yelled surprise. At least the party itself was nice, if a bit childish, but he had fun, and that's all that matters. With that, we're now back to the present.

Hoyt sat in the castle library across from his best friend, Starlight Glimmer, they both had their noses buried in books and were reading the evening away.

"Hoyt," questioned Starlight putting down her book.

"Yeah Stary," said Hoyt eliciting a blush from Starlight at the mention of her new nickname.

"Why were you so.... alright with being stuck here, I mean you're in a completely different dimension, amongst completely alien creatures, and you're completely alright with it," asked Starlight with a worried expression.

"Why are you just asking this now," asked Hoyt looking up from his book.

"Because I didn't think it was my place. I didn't feel we were close enough friends for me to ask you such a personal question," replied Starlight, her ear's pinned back and a sad look on her face.

"Starlight," said Hoyt sadly as he put down his book "you're my best friend, you were the first pony I met when I first arrived here. You've helped me get the ponies of Ponyville to approach me long enough to realize that I'm nice and only want to co-exist. Not only that, you also helped me come to terms with being stuck here, despite how I acted, I was very erratic minded and scared at first. You helped me though, your friendship, your kindness, your honesty, and most of all your support, have helped me come to terms with all that has happened. While everything has happened so fast, and we've only known each other for a week, you are already irreplaceable to me, you can ask me anything, or say anything to me, and I won't get offended or think any less of you. Besides, there's no reason to fight something I have no control over, this is how things happened, and I'm content with that."

Starlight listened wide-eyed to what he had to say, completely enraptured. Every word made her heart soar, and the emotion put into the words only served to widen her smile. She tried to, but couldn't fight the persistent and faint blush that placed itself on her cheeks.

"Hoyt, I feel the same way, I was at one point a rather bad pony, but your friendship has helped me to put what I did in the past where it belongs, it's nothing more than a bad memory now. You too, have become irreplaceable to me, I honestly think I'd lose my mind if I lost you," said Starlight grinning widely.

"I'd like to stay and continue chatting and reading with you, but I have a Friendship Report to write. While Celestia didn't give me an exact date, I feel she wanted the first one as soon as possible," said Hoyt with a grin of his own.

"I understand, here," said Starlight levitating over a blank scroll, an ink well, and a quill to Hoyt.

"Thanks," said Hoyt with a polite nod.

"Here we go, first Friendship Report, no pressure," thought Hoyt nervously.

Dear Princess Celestia,

It has been two days since you had come to me to assess my situation, and I do not believe I have truely thanked you for your kindness, your understanding, and most of all your sympathy, I'll get to you on that later, I give you my most sincere promise. Anyway, as per requested, this shall be my first, in most likely a long line of Friendship Reports.

Today started off as what had become the usual, Twilight greeted me in the morning as she always does, I had tea with her (which I was kinda reluctant about at first) and as usual that ended off stunningly. But something took a turn after that, when I met up with Starlight (like I do everyday), she seemed kinda worried, and also distant. When we had breakfast together, she was completely silent, usually she'd ask about event's of days prior, but she seemed kinda nervous. I was, of course, curious and ~~a little bit~~ very worried about my very close friend, but figured she was just tired. After breakfast, we headed to the library, as we always did after breakfast and began reading, while this was of course normal for us, she still seemed quiet, distant, and aloof.

Instead of asking for my opinion on something she was reading or had read before, she just sat there, almost isolated. I was REALLY starting to get nervous at that point. Luckily, she finally spoke, but what she said confused, and hurt me. She had asked me why I was so at peace with being stuck here, not realizing the impact she and her friendship had had on me. After explaining that she was the main reason for me being so at peace I could... feel us growing close together.

I know this must me a lame excuse for a first Friendship Report, but it's all I got, and I figured you'd want the first as soon as possible. Anyway I hope you enjoy, and I promise to make a better one next time.

Sincerely Your New Friend, Hoyt.

"All done," said Hoyt placing the quill on the table with a happy sigh.

"Hey Hoyt," said Starlight getting his attention.

"Yeah Stary," said Hoyt smiling.

"Instead of doing what we usually do after we finish reading, what do you say we go down to Sugarcube Corner for some sweets," asked Starlight hopefully.

Hoyt's smile widened "of course, I'd love that, any excuse to hang out with you is good in my book."

Starlight blushed "g-great, we should be going now, so we can beat the afternoon traffic."

"Right, just gotta give this to Spike," said Hoyt standing up, completely confused by what she meant by 'traffic.'

And as if the universe had heard him, Spike walked in.

"Spike, just the guy I was looking for," said Hoyt walking over and bumping Spike's fist with his own.

"Twilight figured you had started writing your first friendship report and sent me down, I have no idea how though," said Spike taking the scroll in his claw and igniting it.

"You're a gentleman and a scholar Spike," said Hoyt happily.

"Don't you forget it," said Spike with mock authority.

Hoyt turned back to Starlight "shall we."

Starlight merely nodded and hopped from her seat.

It took fifteen minutes, but Starlight and Hoyt made it to Sugarcube Corner, only to find Pinkie eagerly waiting for them.

"HEY YOU TWO," yelled Pinkie excitedly.

"Pinkie," said Hoyt chuckling "calm down."

"Okie-Dokie-Lokie," said Pinkie happily.

"Oh hello dearies, what'll you two be having," asked Mrs. Cake from behind the counter.

"I'd like a double fudge brownie.... and a Dr. Pupper," said Hoyt tapping his chin.

"I'll have the same, except I want a Para-Sprite, preferably not the animal," said Starlight giggling at her own joke.

"Right away," said Pinkie giggling as she shot off into the kitchen.

"Go ahead and grab yourselves a table dears," said Mrs. Cake.

"Thanks," said Hoyt with a smile.

Hoyt looked out into the small cafe/ bakery, and saw a booth right next to a particularly noticeable mint green unicorn, and a cream colored earth pony. Hoyt walked over and sat with his back facing the mint green mare, Starlight sat across from him, smiling in anticipation about what she know's he's about to do.

"Hey, you got the stuff," asked Hoyt mimicking the stereotypical drug addict.

"In Faust's holy name Hoyt," said the mare annoyed, but she still had a smile on her face "would you let that go."

You're probably wondering what she's referring to, well, after Hoyt had met Lyra (the mare he's speaking to) they agreed to meet up to hang out, as she found him enjoyable to be around. She had told him to meet her at her marefriend's candy shop, and lets just say his timing couldn't have been more perfect. When he walked through the front door of the store, the first thing he saw was Lyra, she also just so happened to have her muzzle covered in powdered sugar. All the while her eyes were bloodshot because she accidentally squeezed a lemon into them, her mane was also disheveled, she honestly looked like a drug addict. Ever since then, he's taken every offered chance to make a drug joke, which she says she hates, but he knows she loves. After that he met Bon-Bon, and after a misunderstanding (she thought he was trying to steal Lyra from her), the two became close friends. They also discovered they like the same kind's of candy. Enough of that though, back to the present.

"As soon as it stops being so damn funny," said Hoyt chuckling.

Lyra groaned in mock annoyance "you're intolerable."

"Down with drugs legalize marijuana," said Hoyt.

"You two... I swear," said Bon-Bon shaking her head with a smile on her muzzle.

"Hey Bonnie, what are you two doing here anyway, trying to scope out the competition," said Hoyt waving to the cream colored earth pony.

"Oh nothing much," said Bon-Bon with a smile "just taking this dastardly drug dealer of a mare out for our one year anniversary."

"Aww, congratulations girls, I'm super jealous," said Starlight dreamily.

"You two are by far the cutest couple I've ever seen, and I've seen Twilight and Celestia when they were being, ahem, affectionate," said Hoyt smiling.

The two mares blushed and thanked them for their complements. After that, Bon-Bon and Lyra moved over into the same booth with Hoyt and Starlight. Much to their dismay though, the young couple didn't stay long as they had other things to attend to. After they left Hoyt's and Starlight's food finally arrived, though they didn't mind the wait, it gave them an excuse to talk to dear friends. After they finished eating, Starlight attempted to pay, but was stopped by Hoyt.

"I'm the gentleman in this situation, I should be the one to pay," said Hoyt smiling.

Starlight blushed and nodded at his chivalrous kindness. She liked chivalrous stallions, and Hoyt was just that.

You're probably wondering how Hoyt got the dough though, well it's simple really. Noticing his organizing talent's, as well as his advance coordinated way of thinking, Twilight hired him as one of her personal 'helpers.' And honestly, after all the hell she's put him through, Hoyt felt a whole new level of respect for the little purple drake that he has come to call friend.

Hoyt happily paid the bill, and offered his hand to help Starlight from her chair, which caused her blush to deepen, she REALLY liked a chivalrous stallion. Hoyt also held the door open for her, which only served to make her even happier as the two began their calm walk back to the castle.

Hoyt thought back to how he came to be here.

"Was it merely an act of fate, was I destined to meet this gorgeous mare," though Hoyt, silently looking over to his equine companion.

....There wasn't a doubt in his mind, this was fate.

Canterlot Castle Shortly After Hoyt's Letter was Sent

Celestia sat in her throne, looking through petitions when she heard a light popping sound to her left. She used her magic to levitate the new piece of parchment over and unfurled it eagerly. What she read brought a large, happy smile to her face.

"It pleases me greatly to know my little human is settling in nicely, and that he is growing closer to his best friend," said Celestia her smile never wavering.

Celestia rolled the scroll back up and set it to the side for later.

"Now, back to the nightmare that is ruling a kingdom," said Celestia with a sad sigh "I do hope Twilight brings an extra helping of snuggles tonight, I'm gonna need them."
