Chapter One: The Dance

I took a very deep breath in to calm myself down.

Okay Twilight, I thought to myself now, you’ve got this.

I can totally do this, I mean it’s not like you haven’t been to a dance before.

Oh wait, I really haven’t that much at all, ever.

But at least it can’t be as bad as I think it is, right?

I mean a cute boy asks me to a dance in the High School, it can’t be that serious, can it, right? Sure thing, I mean it could be a lot worse I guess.

And that was when it got worse, or better, I don’t really know for sure.

“Hey there Twilight,” Sunset Shimmer said walking up to me now, “What’s up?”

“Oh, nothing too much,” I replied back very casually trying to stay calm now.

“Right,” Sunset said, “You’re lying, you’re obviously nervous about something.”

“Well of course I am! This is the first time that a boy has ever asked me to a dance before! Even if it is just a

high school one!” I shouted out very loudly now. “Calm down Twilight, and doesn’t Everfree count as an

invitation?”

“Well no, it wasn’t planned months in advance, and Timber actually didn’t ask me to it before, he just came

up to me during the dance, very big difference.”

“Sure thing, if you say so, but hey, it doesn’t always have to be a boy that asks you out,” Sunset said looking at me straight in my eyes.

“Uh what do you mean?” I said starting to get the feeling of a hidden deeper message and theme and idea that I couldn’t spot yet within her words now.

“Oh, nothing too much, I’m just saying that you should be open to the idea that girls can like you too,” Sunset said trying to be casual now.

“Well I guess so, I mean we are friends, right?” I said very nervously now.

“Sure, best friends, right,” she said smiling as she emphasized two words.

“Wait, are you saying what I think you’re saying?” I said.

“Well it depends what you’re thinking about,” Sunset said smiling.

“Oh, Sunset, I didn’t know that you thought like that.”

“Hey, you don’t know what I am thinking about,” she said now.

“Well I don’t think that it’s anything good,” I said trying to hide my obvious disgust now, but it was no use as my face clearly expressed it right now.

“Oh come on, it’s not as bad as you might think,” Sunset said smiling.

“How long?” I said, “How long have you had these feelings for me?”

“Ever since I met the pony Twilight again, but honestly I think the feelings that I have for her conflicted and mixed with you, so yeah, it’s really complicated.”

“Oh,” I said very shocked and surprised now, “So now what exactly?”

“Well, I was wondering maybe if we could dance after you dance with him?”

“Uh, sure thing, I see nothing wrong with dancing, but I’m honestly sure if I am completely comfortable with your feelings not that I don’t like lesbians.”

Sunset blinked in surprise, “I’m honestly shocked that you know that term.”

“Oh please, just because I was a nerd and geek didn’t mean I didn’t know what problems the world faced

and had, in fact I might have even known more about them and how to actually fix them, but of course

your opinion doesn’t matter when you’re just a high school student, but then again, you’re really never noticed either, but I guess that I can at least accept your feelings and still respect you as a person even if I

may not support or agree with it yet.”

“Maybe some time with me will change your mind,” she said smiling now.

“Maybe, but let’s just take this slowly, okay?” I said now.

“Okay, fine, alright, you win, but don’t blame me if you fall in love.”

“Trust me, I won’t,” I said as I stepped onto the dance floor now.

I danced with Timber Spruce who had invited me to dance with him, but as I danced my mind couldn’t get off to what I just heard. Sunset Shimmer, my best friend, was, well she was in love with me, or had feelings at the very least.

And I just couldn’t get off that fact no matter what I tried to do about it.

“Hey there Twilight, are you okay?” Timber said to me while we danced.

“Well no, not exactly,” I said looking back at Sunset very differently now.

“Well what happened exactly? You can tell me,” he said smiling now.

“Thanks, but I don’t think I should, it’s boring girl stuff,” I said lying now.

“Right, you’re a really horrible liar Twilight,” he said as he spun me around.

“Yeah, I know, people keep telling me that,” I said now.

“Well guess what, you can trust me to keep any secret, I mean I have seen magic take over the mind of my

sister and some pretty amazing awesome stuff too, but if you don’t want to talk about that then that’s fine I guess, really.”

“Well it’s about Sunset Shimmer, she just told me that she has feelings for me.”

“Oh,” he said very surprised and shocked, “Okay, but did she say it directly?”

“She didn’t have to, she implied it, and she didn’t try to deny it either.”

“Oh, well okay then, now you know that, but how do you feel about it now?”

“Honestly, I don’t know, I’ve never had a girl like me before much less a guy.”

“Well it’s not so bad, trust me, just follow your heart and you can never be wrong, after all, this is your

happiness that we’re talking about here, and I can understand why you wouldn’t want to hurt her feelings if she is your best friend, but if you don’t want to start the relationship because you don’t support or even agree with it then you should probably tell her that right now instead.”

“Well okay then, thanks a lot, I really needed to hear that,” I said.

“You’re welcome, but if you ever need me remember that I’m just a tree hop and phone call away,” he said

smiling as the song suddenly ended now.

Once the song ended I decided to go over to Sunset now.

“Finally, that took forever, I was starting to get bored waiting for that to end.”

“Yeah, and I was waiting to talk to you,” I said pulling my arms close in now.

“Hey, you can relax around me, I won’t bite, I promise you.”

“I know that,” I said as she positioned my arms correctly for the dance now.

“Yeah, well you don’t act that way certainly enough,” she said.

“Well I guess that I’m just nervous and conflicted about this whole entire thing now, I mean I just can’t get

over the fact that you actually like girls.”

“Well can you tell me what’s wrong with that exactly?” she said now.

“Nothing, so long as you follow your heart you’re never wrong.”

“Exactly, and my heart tells me that I really like you a lot, Twilight.”

“And mine doesn’t know how to react or where to go, I mean I don’t want to hurt your feelings, but I also

don’t know how I feel about you either.”

“Well then, maybe there’s something I can do to clear that up for you.”

“And what would that be exactly?” I said noticing that she was much closer to me and that the song was

almost at an end as she stared into my eyes now.

“This,” she said leaning in and wrapping her arms around my body and then kissing me, and for a moment

the whole entire world seemed to stop now.

Nothing moved, except for my heart of course, which moved very rapidly.

I couldn’t think, I couldn’t move, I didn’t even have time to react properly.

I was completely shocked and surprised needless to say of course.

But what I also felt was that way too, because I actually liked it.

It was plain, simple, small, and short, nothing too big, nothing wrong.

My skin felt like it was on fire now, wherever she touched me it burned like the sun shining down on your

skin, but it didn’t hurt with the pain that you might or would expect if you were burned, because it was the good kind of pain.

And I just wanted this feeling to go on forever, oh yes, let the burning continue.

I actually felt like I was on fire for a moment, and the room felt cold next to the warmth and fire I felt as

Sunset Shimmer kissed me in comparison now then.

My lips tingled as we kissed, and I wanted to breathe, but I just couldn’t for some reason, and not because

we were kissing, I had a nose to breathe through you know, but the real true reason I couldn’t breathe was because my breath was taken away, literally. It was like my lungs forgot how to operate for a moment, but of course if that were true then I really would need medical care and attention, but luckily enough I didn’t need that, I just needed her now instead, and so long as I always had her with me nothing else mattered

anymore. But of course I knew that I couldn’t, but I still wished and hoped for that still instead, and nothing

would ever destroy those hopes and dreams now.

Sunset didn’t hold the kiss for very long, probably because she feared how I would react, I mean would I reject her and hurt her feelings or would I just be shocked and surprised instead? Or would I do something completely different and new instead. “I hope that you didn’t mind,” she said, “I just thought that I should probably try that out so you could know how you felt about me.”

“Well that was a very good idea,” I said trying to recover from the event now.

“Well, how did you feel? Shocked? Surprised? Do you like it? Hate it instead?”

“No, I don’t hate it, or like it,” I said leaning closer to her now, “I LOVE IT!!!”

And then it was my turn to surprise and shock her as I then kissed her.

She blinked her reaction as I kissed her and wrapped my arms around her neck, but then she must have

smiled and then accepted my reaction.

After quite some time we finally ended the kiss then.

“Well then, I guess we know exactly how this will work out,” she said smiling now, “So then, when do you

want to have our next date and move in with me?”

“Oh, I don’t think we’re quite there yet, but maybe someday,” I said smiling.

“I hope so, I wouldn’t want our relationship to stand still forever.”

“Trust me, it won’t, but should we tell our friends about this?”

“I think that we should, but maybe not right now, we have to know that it’s going to work out for sure first

before we actually tell them, okay?”

“Alright, fine then, but do you think that they’ll accept us?”

“If they’re our real true best friends then I think that they will,” she said.

“Oh good, I was worried, but then again, with you here, why should I?”

“Exactly, keep thinking like that and we’ll be in the bed together in no time at all,” Sunset said as they

walked back over to the snack counter once the song had finally ended. “Hey, don’t you dare think about

that right now,” I said.

“Trust me, I’m not, but if I were then I would also have dreams about it too.”

“You’re so naughty, but also funny, I like that, but I think I have to know you first if we’re going to continue

our relationship,” I said getting some punch now.

“Well how about we start very simple, my favorite color is orange, what about you?” Sunset said as she took

a few cookies and started to eat them.

“Uh mine is either violet or blue, I can’t really decide yet,” I said.

“Well okay then, fine, alright, my favorite ice cream flavor is chocolate.”

“Me too,” I said, “Well my favorite class is science, but you probably already knew that,” I said now trying to

contain my very slight laugh.

“Yeah, I did, I guess my favorite class has to be art though I guess,” she said as her smile grew bigger just

like mine, “How about embarrassing moments now?”

“Oh no,” I said thinking about a few particular events, “Skip this shit please.”

“Okay, alright, fine then, as you wish,” she said bowing very dramatically.

“Did you decide to watch the copy of The Princess Bride that I gave you?”

“Yes, I did, and I must say, it is rather an excellent amazing movie.”

“Well that’s what most say about it, and that’s exactly why I chose it for you to watch, but what do you want to talk about now then exactly?” I said now.

“Well how about we talk about the future now?” she said very hopefully now.

“Not to let your hopes down, but no, I would rather just take it one step at a time for now, let’s not worry

about where the future will take us just yet.

Okay?” I said trying to plead desperately with Sunset now.

“Alright, fine then, you win today,” Sunset said trying not to laugh.

“Okay, good then,” I said smiling, “Uh, but what do we do now then?”

“A very good question after a kiss,” Sunset said now.

“Hey look, this is my first time kissing somebody, okay?”

“Yeah, me too, but I guess that it must be worse for you.”

“And why would that be exactly?” I said now.

“Well this is your first time kissing a girl just like me too,” she said now.

“Oh, well I guess that makes sense, but I’m not sure if it’s any worse for me than you since we seem to be

both on the same page here now relatively.”

“Well we might be on the same page and story, but we read at our own pace and realize things sooner or

later depending upon how we think.”

“You’re so right, and also wise, where did you learn that from exactly?”

“Not what, who, I learned it by myself of course,” she said now then.

“Oh,” I said, “Okay, that’s interesting, I didn’t know you thought that way.”

“I think many things, but most are about you now, Twilight,” she said now.

“Okay, I think that we should take down the heat in this room by twenty degrees or so, or maybe twenty

percent instead,” I said now.

“Don’t be silly and ridiculous, the room is just fine, although it would be a lot warmer with you around my

arms and by my side to support me now.”

“You’re not getting another hug or kiss, so just give up, okay?”

“Alright, fine then, you want to take things slowly, I can work out with that.”

And then with that said she smiled and finished eating now.

“Alright! Who’s ready to party?” Pinkie Pie suddenly said now.

And with that said Pinkie Pie went into one of her full rant crazy modes now.

I didn’t even bother to try to fight or question it, and so I just went along with it instead, but as I did I

couldn’t help to ever take my eyes off of Sunset now.

There she was dancing on the floor as Pinkie Pie was being herself, and she looked very lovely in her gown, almost like she was a real true princess now, but I knew in my heart and mind that she wasn’t, and she might never be one either, but maybe she could be something else special instead one day soon.

But that was when chaos suddenly started to come into the room.

Smoke suddenly filled the air and made it very hard for me to see anyone, especially Sunset, but then

eventually it was cleared out with fans.

“Wow, that smoke sure was weird,” Sunset said coming over to me.

“Yeah, and I didn’t even plan it, so who did?” Pinkie Pie said bouncing over to us now. “Yeah, it does seem a

bit strange,” I said to myself and her now.

“Well at least it’s over now and we’ll always have each other.”

“Yeah, I guess so, but I think the dance is ending, want one more last kiss?”

“No, I think that I’ll be fine without one, but thanks for the offer anyways.”

“Oh, okay then, fine, alright, I should probably get going anyhow.”

“Alright fine, see you later Twily,” she said waving goodbye to me now.

But as I left I couldn’t help feel like she wasn’t herself, almost like she was a completely different person,

but it couldn’t be, right? She would always be the same person no matter what happened between them or to her, right?

Of course, it just had to be, Sunset Shimmer loved her and I loved her too.

And nothing would change that no matter what happened to us now.

But she was also probably trying to figure this out too, I reasoned to myself.

She was just probably trying to figure out where to go next and at what speed too, I mean what else could

it be other than that, right? Yes, it just had to be that, there were other reasons too, but many less logical and reasonable too.

I was finally satisfied with the answer that I gave myself and so I went out back home where my most faithful loyal dog Spike was. “Hey there Twilight,” he said, “How was the dance? Did you kiss anybody or get anything for me?”

“Sorry Spike, but I don’t have any treats for you, although I did kiss someone.”

“Oh really?” he said darting around the room very quickly and nervously too, “Who was it exactly? I’ll forget about the treats if you tell me.”

“You wouldn’t believe me even if I did tell you who it was,” I said trying to avoid the question now. “Ah come

on, you can tell me, I can keep a secret, I’m your dog and I bury stuff all the time, a secret shouldn’t be any harder,” he said.

“Alright, fine then, you win, it was Sunset Shimmer,” I said.

“Wow, cool,” he said, “I’ve been waiting for her to tell you her real true feeling about this whole entire thing, and now I’m just glad that it’s finally over.”

“Wait, you knew about this?” I said now.

“Well yeah, of course, it was pretty obvious to me even if she didn’t tell me you know, I mean you humans just smell the weirdest at some certain times.”

“Alright fine then, but you’re not upset that she’s a girl at all?”

“Nah, I’m cool with it so long as you like her and follow your heart, or your nose and instincts if you want to

go chase something around instead.”

“Wow, I did not know that you felt that way,” I said now.

“Yeah, well I don’t really mind, I mean why would I after all?”

“I don’t really know, I just thought that you might,” I said now then.

“Well I think that it’s time to go to bed,” he said yawning very loudly now.

“Yeah, you’re right, it is a bit late, and I probably need to think about this whole entire thing,” I said taking off my clothes and getting into bed now.

“Well good night Twilight, see you in the morning,” he said now.

“Goodnight Spike, I’ll also see you in the morning too,” I said as I slowly closed my eyes and finally let the darkness and dreams take over me now then.
