Darkness Rising
Chapter 1. Aftermath
Load Full StoryNext ChapterTwilight flapped her wings harder than she had ever as she carried Sombra through the blizzard. In the distance, she could hear Luna's faint screams of NOOOOO! However, that was the least of her problems right now. Her mentor, her mother figure, had hunted her down and killed her love.
"She will pay dearly for her crimes." Twilight whispered to herself, the pure rage she felt giving her more strength by the second. She looked back at Sombra's battered body. He was dead, but she still felt his presence. Twilight turned her attention to the task at hand, getting Sombra back. She scanned the desolate land before her, only plains to the left and forest to the right. Twilight soared down to the ground like a angle coming down from Horsehaven. The cold snow was far from a pleasant feel to the queen. Her shoes had fallen off when fleeing the castle. That'd have to wait though, she and Sombra needed shelter from the storm. Knowing better that she didn't have much time Twilight, whilst carrying Sombra on her back ran to the forest. She hoped to find a cave or at least some sort of shelter.
Trudging threw the deepening snow, twilight made her way to the safety of the forest. Scanning her surroundings Twilight found nothing useful to her, only animal tracks.
"Animal tracks!" Twilight squeaked happily. Remembering she had gone through a book on all the animals in the forested areas while at the castle. This was the time to see how useful it would come in handy. Twilight examined the prints carefully; one big pad with five smaller pads with claws. She easily guessed it to be a bear, and where there's a bear theirs a cave. Twilight raced through the forest, following the bears tracks.
A while later...
Twilight came to a skidding stop. Their it was, in all its glory, the cave. The weather hadn't treated then nicely since they abandoned the castle, and they couldn't go back. So this was gonna have to do. However, Twilight, was a bit hesitant. If they went in there, there could be worse things then just the bear...but on the otherhoof she and Sombra needed shelter from this storm.
"Go inside, Twilight. It'll be fine." a familiar voice said to her. Twilight jumped a the voice. "Don't be afraid...It's Me." The voice talked.
"S-Sombra?" Twilight asked, looking back at her deceased husband.
"Yes, I'm here. My body may be lifeless right now, but my spirits is as strong as ever thx to you." Sombra spirt said
"Thanks to me? How?" Twilight asked, her purple hair blowing fiercely in the howling wind.
"I'll explain once we get inside." Sombra stated. Twilight, not wanting to disappoint her love, walked carefully inside the cave.
Once inside, Twilight lit up her horn as a light source. She stepped lightly but calmly. The sound of water dripping of the stalactites on the caves ceiling. It was quite eyrie, but otherwise warm, quite and safe...
"Rahhw!" the sound came from a bear two ponies high that was standing in front of Twilight. Showing off its sharp teeth and claws.
"Spoke to soon..." Twilight thought as she back up. She wasn't strong enough to take on a bear this large, the battle with the sisters had left her barley able to make the simplest of spells.
"Use your dark magic Twilight." Sombra called from her mind.
"I-i can't I'm to weak..." Twilight spoke softly flattening her ears as the bear swung its giant black paw at her. Twilight ducked then jumped to the side of the bear.
"Don't worry. I'll help you..." Sombra exclaimed. "Use your anger and frustration, it'll fuel you." Twilight closed her eyes to concentrate on her anger and all her frustration's. She then remembered Celestia and Luna finishing off Sombra. Twilight opened her eyes, them completely filled with green with purple smoke. Twilight raised her wings and shot a beam of dark magic at the bear. The bear let out on last might rawr before crashing into the side of the cave. Its blood splattering on the wall and floor. Twilight shook her head as the mist in her eyes cleared. She laid Sombra on the ground and stared at him. His body was as still as a stone. A tear rolled down twilights face as she bent her head down to her lover. If only she was stronger, she could off protected him.
"Oh Sombra...if only I was stronger." Twilight cried as she hugged tightly onto his body.
"I'm still here, and I will join you again soon."
"H-how?" Twilight asked, using her magic to summon a campfire. She levitated it close to Sombra's body...to keep it warm.
"Use the creation spell on my body. Because my spirit is still here, you can use it on me and I can return to my body." Sombra explained.
"I-i hope your right..."Twilight said shakily. She planted a kiss on Sombra's head and back up. "You ready?" She asked.
"Of course I'm ready." Sombra replied. Twilight, using what anger left used it summon the creation spell. The air around them circled fiercely as Twilight aimed her magic at Sombra's body. She held the spell for a good minute or two and collapsed on the ground. She was exhausted and need to rest. However, to her that wasn't an option. She crawled over to Sombra, watching for any signs of life.
"S-sombra?" Twilight called.
Nothing
"S-sombra?" She called again.
Nothing still.
"P-please...I-i can't do this without you!" Twilight cried closing her eyes as she sat in the dark, her head hung down in defeat. She opened her eyes when she felt her chin being raised up. There he was, His dark pelt and hair, with his unmistakable eyes and fanged smile. King Sombra. Sombra brought her muzzle to his as they embraced in deep kiss. Both tongues meeting as they danced around each other. Twilight moaned happily into her lovers mouth.
"I've missed your touch my queen." Sombra spoke breaking the kiss. Twilight blushed under her kings statement, snuggling closely into his chest as he held her close.
"I-i've missed you so so much!" Twilight said softly, tears streaming down her face.
"I'm sorry, I left you...but, I'm here now and I'm gonna make sure that you are safe." Sombra responded whilst playing with Twilights mane. Twilight held on tightly to Sombra, finding comfort easily. Sombra accepted it lovingly and held onto his wife, cooing into her ear with sweet words of promise. The fire in the background giving light and warm to the two lovers as the cuddled each other. "We should rest. We're gonna need our strength if we are to conquer all of Equestria." he spoke softly. Twilight nodded approvingly and let go of Sombra, her tears seeming to disappear like the sun being chased away from the sky by the moon. Sombra stood up first and walked over near the crackling fire. Twilight followed swiftly and snuggled closely to Sombra, as all she wanted was to feel him and his touch. Resting her head next on Sombra's neck, Twilight seemed to fall into the real of dreams quickly. Sombra looked down at his sleeping wife. Sure she was a bit smaller than him, but she made up for it with confidence, determination, skill, and pure beauty. That sleek dark purple fur that was nestled next to him and fit her body well. Those beautiful purple eyes that easily melted his heart every time he peered into them. Her soft dark purple mane and tail that covered her gorgeous face an body. He loved her and every part of her as he watched her chest rise and fall gently. "I love you my sweet Twilight. I promise that I'll protect, and love you...that WE'LL conquer Equestria...together..."Sombra whispered softly as he wrapped his tail around twilight. He rested his head next to Twilights and let his eyes shut as he soon joined Twilight in the realm blissful sleep.
Princess Celestia looked at the aftermath after the fight with Sombra and Twilight. "Twilight" Celestia began "I-I was to late to stop Sombra from corrupting you. I failed you...I-I..." she said gently as she let her tears fall freely. Luna walked over to her sister, a sorrowful expression across her face. Twilight was like a daughter to Celestia...and Luna knew what that must have feel like. After all, she had turned into Nightmare Moon, an the way her sister described her emptiness without her by her side....all she could do was give her sister a hug and hope to help heal her ruptured heart.
"It's gonna be okay Celestia. We stopped Sombra now we just have to get Twilight back...I can assure you of that she will return to you." Luna declared wrapping her wing around Celestia's battered body. Celestia winced in pain as the two walked to a chariot that was waiting to take them to Ponyville. How was she gonna convey the news to Twilights friends that she was on Sombra's side and is corrupted. She didn't know, but all she did know was Sombra was dead. As the two sisters walked to their chariot, their remaining guards bowed to them. Celestia viewed their heavy loses. Some of their guards were already covering and carrying their dead away. Celestia and Luna made their way over to their chariot, Luna's bat ponies taking the reins from the tired Pegasus's that brought it here. Using her magic, Luna opened the door and guided her sister in. Celestia rested her flank down on the cushioned seating of the chariot, Luna still holding onto her tightly.
"Guards takes us back to Canterlot." Luna ordered to her bat ponies. Celestia looked over at her younger sister, her expression grim. "What is wrong sister?" she asked gently. A tear rolled down Celestia's face as she stared at Luna.
"N-no. Take us to Ponyville." Celestia ordered to the bat ponies as they took off. Luna looked up at Celestia with a bewildered expression resting on her face.
"Ponyville? You need treatment!" Luna retorted.
"Twilights friends need to know what has happened...and keeping the truth from them isn't going to help." Celestia suggested, her voice as calm as a mothers speaking to her child. Another tear streamed down the rulers cheek as she thought about Twilight. She wasn't able to save her...she and Luna were able to kill Sombra sure...but that mare wasn't Twilight anymore...any trace of her was gone. Not noticing, Luna had given her a comforting hug. She stared down at Luna with gentle loving eyes.
"We'll get her back...s-"Luna began but was cut off by Celestia's harsh words.
"L-luna! How can you say something like that...you saw the way she acted...she wasn't there...she was gone! I couldn't save her! What makes you think we still have a chance at saving her!" She altercated at Luna, causing her to flinch. Luna's gaze strayed from Celestia's stare. Celesta watched her sister's bodily expressions and sighed. "L-luna...im sorry. I'm just not..." she stuttered, trying to fight the fresh tears water falling down her face. Luna brought her sister into a hug, gently rocking her in her arms.
"It's not thy fault, dear sister." Luna responded softly, calming Celestia down. "At least Sombra is...well..." she began, but soon turned into nothing but a soft murmur as she tried to find the right words. Nevertheless, no words could describe or sooth a aching heart in this situation. What would you even do if you were in this situation? She'd have to think upon this subject later, they were overhead of Ponyville.
The two celestial watched silently as the landed in front of Twilights treehouse. Celestia, trying to put on a more collected and determined face, wiped away her tears. The two bat ponies that had escorted them here took off their reins and opened the doors. Luna helped Celestia up, trying to make her as comfortable as possible. The two walked gracefully out of the chariot and to the door. Celestia, being led to the door of Twilights treehouse, walked alongside Luna. She felt bad for her sister to help her, after all, Luna had been hurt much worse then her, in her opinion. Celestia wasn't ready to walk into the treehouse, where Twilight's friends were waiting, injured. Celestia took a deep breath before the entered, prepping herself to explain what happened to Twilights friends. She wasn't very stable, and this news would more than likely make it worse for Twilights friends. However, they needed to know, they couldn't be kept in the dark...."Are you ready, sister?" Luna asked ready to open the door. Celestia could only nod with an uneasy grin to Luna. They could hear the sound of ponies inside, quickly becoming quiet as the door opened. And there stood all Twilights friends, even spike, who was holding onto Rarity for comfort. Celestia looked a them with a soft smile before she and Luna entered the treehouse together. Only the silence of the Night and room could tell time as Celestia began to explain what happened.
