Just a Dream, Right?
Dawn of the First Day
Load Full StoryNext ChapterIf I had my way, I would stay in bed until ten each morning. Not even sleeping, just lying there. Unfortunately, my mom likes to get me out of bed a little before 8, so I can actually do stuff around the house.
My name is Everett. I just graduated from high school (except I was homeschooled, so it isn’t really high school, it’s more I am now ready to get scholarship money for college), and I HATE summer vacation, simply because there isn’t anything to do. I live in a small town, and the nearest town that even has a Walmart is a half hour away. I’m six feet tall, and weigh about 150 pounds.
Mostly what I do is play video games (we’ve got a ton of them at our house), taekwondo (a martial art, same as karate and kung fu), and race radio control cars (hand-eye coordination is key). Other times I daydream. I just lay in my bed and think of stuff. Usually related to the last movie I watched or book I read. It beats regular dreaming, that’s for sure.
Oh yeah, I only dream about once every other month or so. And none of those dreams are any sort of nightmare or even something really bizarre. They just happen.
Why would I tell you that? Oh, just you wait.
Anyways, it’s the first Monday after school was done. The best part about school is I only need to do it until one, but that usually keeps me busy enough to make sure I don’t get bored of the video games. But, school is done. Therefore, three months of boredom begins. Especially when your usual schedule is 8 in the morning to about 10 at night. That’s a lot of time to fill.
Both mom and dad work, so it’s just me and my brother. I mostly ignore him. It’s a talent I’ve learned from 15 years of him calling me for stuff. He has a habit of saying my name twice in a sentence when he wants to get my attention. Something like “Everett, come see this, Everett!” Except really fast.
I get the chores done around the house, and look outside. Absolutely miserable. Dark clouds, high winds, and bucket loads of rain. So much for going outside and doing anything.
Then, I get onto my computer for an hour. Just to check up on YouTube and (more importantly) my email for college stuff.
NOTHING!
Then, I grab my Ipod, and lay on my bed until mom comes home for lunch. I love listening to music. A little bit what actual bands make, but mostly music out of video games. Two of my favorite games as far as music goes are Sonic Colors and Undertale. I haven’t played the latter, but the music is AWESOME!
After mom comes home, and then leaves for work again, we now have about five hours to kill before mom and dad come home from work for good. I spend it on the Xbox playing F1 2016. I love Formula 1. NASCAR has lately gotten to be the “Ultimate Crapshoot Division”, and Indycar only has the Indy 500 that is interesting to me. At least during the summer, there’s soccer on TV.
After playing on there for a couple hours, I go to my all-time favorite game (mostly because it is my first real video game), Super Mario Galaxy. I’ve beaten it twice, and now I’m playing it again, but with the controller in my wrong hands. As in, the Wii remote goes in my left hand, while my nun chuck goes in my right hand. Opposite of usual, since I’m a righty.
It certainly adds a challenge. Try it with a Wii game sometime. Either of the Galaxy’s, maybe Skyward Sword, or Sonic Colors too. All great games that become insanely difficult with the remotes in the wrong hands.
Mom and dad walk in at exactly the same time (about quarter after five), and mom immediately goes to the kitchen to get dinner.
I’m starting to feel tired. That doesn’t concern me, though. The last couple of hours can always be a challenge. However, by the time dinner is ready, I’m feeling really tired. I manage to eat all of my food before I say I’m going to bed.
At six.
My family just assumes I need the rest. I hope they’re right. I don’t want to be sick again. All last winter it felt like I was sick. I brush my teeth to get the food out of my braces, then climb into bed. As much as it sucks, I don’t want to get sick. By six in the evening, I am asleep.
