My Little Pony Friendship is Chaos
Is Chaos real or a myth?
Previous ChapterChaos thought being the Guardian would bring new challenges and new foes to fight. However, everything seemed to stay relatively the same. For the longest time, nothing really exciting happened around him. Granted he did fight a few enemies but nothing that would really give him the challenge he desired.
In the end, he would usually hang out with the girls and help out in any way he could. This time he was at Fluttershy’s cottage helping her teach a pair of baby chicks to fly.
Without warning, Rainbow Dash swooped in repeating “four months” in excitement and asked Fluttershy and Chaos if they were excited.
“Oh, my. I, uh, I could be excited. I don't really know. I wasn't really think—” Fluttershy replied as nervous as always.
“Come on, you gotta be excited!”
“Oh, well, I guess maybe I'm a little kinda sort of excited.”
“I thought so!”
“Yeah... So, um, why am I excited?”
“Because the next Daring Do book is coming out exactly four months from today! That's how exciting it is! So what amazing, incredible, awesome adventure do you think Daring Do will have in her next book, huh?”
“Quick question,” Chaos interrupted, “How come I’ve never heard of this Daring Do you are so excited about Rainbow Dash?”
However, due to all her excitement, she crashed into a tree and didn’t hear his question.
“Oh, I'm not so sure she's gonna last another four months” Fluttershy said while thinking to herself.
“Tell me about it.” Chaos replied, “The only time I acted like that, was when I heard about a movie called Gojira. Ever since I can remember I’ve always been a big fan of giant monsters and things like that.”
A few days later, Rainbow Dash made her way towards the Golden Oak Library where the rest of her friends and Chaos are celebrating "National Random Holiday Party Day". Immediately she wondered why no one invited her; Applejack explained that she had invited her personally, but she was too distracted reading a Daring Do book.
“Yeah, well, in three months and twenty six more days, I'll be able to read the next one.” Rainbow Dash said happily.
“Oh, haven't you heard? The release of the next book got pushed another two months.” Twilight replied.
“Two more months?!” Rainbow exclaimed, “I've been waiting so long already! I don't think I can take another two months! I'll never make it!”
“Yeah. I can vouch for that...” Fluttershy responded.
“I as well.” Chaos replied in agreement, “She was practically jumping all over the place.”
What's more, Rainbow Dash got slightly frustrated at Twilight for knowing more about the series and its publishing than she did. Twilight then reminded Rainbow that she introduced her to the series in the first place, adding that the author of the Daring Do books, A.K. Yearling, is her favorite author and she knows just about everything about her. Rainbow Dash asked Twilight if she knew where A.K. Yearling lived. She concluded that A.K. Yearling delayed the book due to everyday distractions, and proposed helping the author. Twilight had reservations at first about violating the author's privacy, but slowly came around to the idea.
As the entire group traveled to a remote part of Equestria, Twilight was still uneasy about intruding upon A.K. Yearling's privacy. Her unease was interrupted when they come across a cottage in the middle of a forest. The seven friends find the residence to be a complete mess and begin to fear for A.K. Yearling's well-being; Rainbow begins to fear for the status of the next Daring Do book.
Suddenly, A.K. Yearling herself enters the house, wondering what Twilight and her friends have done to it. The six ponies and Chaos denied having anything to do with the mess as Yearling starts searching for something but every once in while kept turning to look back at Chaos. She locates a book with gold binding and a horseshoe on the cover, undoing a sort of lock on it to reveal a large golden ring. Yearling sighed in relief, saying, "It's safe." before tucking the ring into her coat.
After that, Yearling addressed Chaos and asked him who he was and what he was doing in her home.
“My name is Chaos. And as you can see, I’m with Twilight and her friends. We barely just arrived. The house was trampled like this when we got here.”
“That’s impossible.” Yearling said with hints of suspicion.
“Uhh… What is? Us trampling your house?” Chaos asked.
“You can’t be Chaos because Chaos doesn’t exsist.” Yearling replied.
“Says who?!” he exclaimed.
“I do. From what I’ve heard is that this so called Chaos is a hideous monster that roams around from here and there terrorizing everypony. Don’t you think it’s a bit farfetched? I mean a two legged creature unlike anything ever seen suddenly appearing and no explanation to how it got here and why?”
“I think you’ve been out here in seclusion for far too long. It has clouded your judgment and you’re a little bit biased. Also, haven’t you heard of the many things I’ve done? Like help the girls defeating Discord, fighting Queen Chrysalis, and recently become the so called “Guardian of Equestria. Now before you continue, ever heard of the multiverse?”
“Okay, that’s enough. Twilight please tell your friend in that ridiculous costume to take it off. It’s not fooling anyone. Chaos is just a character or the figment of somepony’s wild imagination. He isn’t real.”
“Keep telling yourself that. It’s going to work wonders.”
“Great! Maybe now would be a good time for me to ask her how we can help move the new book along a little faster. Chop chop!” Rainbow Dash said interrupting the somewhat heated moment between Yearling and Chaos.
“Rainbow Dash, a minute please! A.K. Yearling has made it pretty clear that she wants to be left alone. We need to respect her wishes!” Twilight explained as she pulled her aside.
“You should tell that to those guys.” Pinkie Pie said as she called attention to the three stallions sneaking into Yearling's house from a second-story window.
Back inside Yearling’s house, she and Chaos once again began to argue about if he was real or not. Unknown to them, the 3 stallions had already surrounded them and prepared to confront them.
“Who the fuck are these assholes?!” Chaos exclaimed.
A.K. Yearling rolled eyes then she threw her coat, hat, and glasses at them. The author then donned a pith helmet and outstretched her wings.
“Don’t get in my way.” She told him.
“Hey. Fine by me.” Chaos replied.
As Daring Do fend off the stallions and kept the gold ring away from them, Twilight and her friends watched in awe from outside.
“A.K. Yearling and Daring Do are one and the same! My mind is officially blown!” Twilight said excitedly.
“Aw, come on, I knew it all along.” Rainbow blurted out.
Accidentally, Rainbow Dash distracts Daring momentarily as she calls out her name, allowing the stallions to subdue her, and causing the gold ring to fall at the hooves of another stallion—Dr. Caballeron, who is another adversary of Daring's.
“Many thanks, Daring Do. As you've probably surmised, our earlier search for this treasure was... unsuccessful. So kind of you to find it for us.” Dr. Caballeron said as he twirled the ring with his hoof.
“Give it back, Caballeron!”She demanded gruntingly.
“Okay enough of this.” Chaos said interrupting the intense moment, “She’s hurt and now I’m gonna step in. Now either give that ring thing back or I’ll be forced to hurt you.”
Dr. Caballeron and his two henchponies laughed hysterically as to what he said.
“Forgive me for that, but you are a pony that’s in some kind of ridiculous costume. You can’t hurt us. Get out of our way before you hurt yourself.” Dr. Caballeron explained.
“Why does everyone now think I’m not real? You’d think that getting recognized by the Princesses more ponies would at least know I’m real. However to the point. On the contrary,” Chaos replied, “I am very much real as I will demonstrate here.” Chaos then grabbed a metallic object and easily crushed it causing his hand to bleed profusely.
“Now would a pony in costume be able to this? Go ahead, try to crush it.” He tossed the object to them causing the stallions to back away slowly.
“N-No matter. You are wounded and will not be able to fight.” Caballeron responded somewhat afraid.
“Oh I wouldn’t worry about that.” Chaos replied as he showed them his hand already beginning to heal.
“Again, I repeat, let her go or I will do to you what I did to that metal object.” Chaos declared gruffly.
“Not so fast.” Dr. Caballeron responded, “If you take one more step I will order my henchponies to cause more harm to Daring Do.”
“Fine. Let her go and leave. But know this isn’t over. I will hunt you down and make you suffer.” Chaos said menacingly.
“So let me guess: Ahuizotl has put you up to this?” Daring asked as Caballeron began leaving, “You're stealing the ring to give to him so his hold on the Fortress of Talacon will be good for eight centuries as foretold by prophecy!”
“Close, but... no.” Caballeron replied, “I'm going to sell this to him, make a bundle, and retire from archaeology in splendor.”
“Caballeron, you fool! You're dooming the valley to eight centuries of unrelenting heat!” Daring exclaimed.
“To the market, henchponies!” Dr. Caballeron shouted as he and his henchponies left.
As soon as they were out of the house, Chaos went and tried to help Daring whose leg was in a splint. “You alright.” He asked concerned.
“I’m fine.” She replied gruffly, “I had everything under control. If it hadn’t been for you and that other pony I wouldn’t be in this situation.”
“You’re welcome by the way.”
Moments later, the girls entered the house and Rainbow Dash asked, “Are you okay?”
Daring Do slapped Rainbow’s hoof and said, “I got this.”
“Um, she was just trying to help, Ms. Do.” Fluttershy replied softly.
“Daring Do doesn't need help. She handles her business herself.”
“Yeah? And how’s that working out for ya?” Chaos said sarcastically.
Daring Do brushed them off and flew after Caballeron with her leg in a splint. What followed next was a back-and-forth between Twilight, Rainbow Dash and Chaos about the events of Daring Do's books and whether or not to help her in her current adventure. They come conclusion that the ring Dr. Caballeron now had was the last in a set of rings needed to complete a dark ritual and must be retrieved for safekeeping. Twilight decideed that the seven of them need a well thought-out plan, but Rainbow Dash and Chaos soared off before they can make such a plan.
“Yada yada yada. Too much talk, more action.” He said to himself.
“Come on, come on, come on... Bingo! Here I come, Daring Do! To join an adventure with the greatest, bravest, coolest, most incredible hero I could ever–“ She let out a slight whimper, “Okay, maybe I just need a sec... Just another adventure. No big deal.” Rainbow told herself as she smacked herself across the face, “Get a grip! I got this. Though, doing it alongside Daring Do... Wow! Maybe I could get my picture taken with her, or an autograph–” She smacked herself again, “There you go again. She's just a pony like any other pony. A pony who stops entire armies of bad guys with nothing more than her bare hooves, and an attitude, and—!” Another smack across her face, “Ow... That's starting to hurt.”
“Would you stop debating and just do it Rainbow.” Chaos told her, “We’re wasting precious time here.” A few seconds later, Daring Do jumped from out of the bushes and attacked them. She managed to take down Rainbow Dash but once she went for Chaos, she unknowingly made a terrible mistake. Daring jumped on top of him and tried blinding him with her hat, however, Chaos anticipated her moves and grabbed her tail throwing her towards the nearest tree. Then he smashed her twice onto the ground and began to choke her while pinning her to the ground.
Rainbow Dash saw what was happening and screamed, “Chaos, Stop! You’re hurting her!”
“Do that again, and I will end you!” Chaos exclaimed as he released his grip from her neck and backed away.
“Oh, it's just you.” Daring Do said in between coughs, “I’ve never seen anyone with your amount of strength. The closest one that I can think of is Ahuizotl. But even then, your strength is far greater than his. How is that possible?”
“You’d be surprised to what I can do.” He replied.
Daring Do brushed them off and went on ahead.
“Wait, don't go!” Rainbow shouted, “I am suuuuuch a huge fan.”
Daring just sighed and moved on.
“Wait, wait, wait! Let me help you!” Rainbow insisted, “I promise I could be a huge, huge help if you just give me a chance.”
“I. Work. Alone.” Daring responded.
“But why won't you let me team up with you just this once?!”
“My work always involves secrets. And since you never know who you can trust, it's best never to trust anypony.”
“Fundamentally true but at the same time kinda sad don’t you think?” Chaos replied, “Besides, just because you don’t trust some doesn’t mean you can’t trust us.”
“Look, I don't have time to argue-”
“Neither do we. Let's go!” Rainbow Dash then flew ahead of Daring.
Daring Do sighed then said under her breath, “Can't believe I'm even talking to them...” Despite Daring's attempts to get rid of her, Rainbow Dash became determined to help.
As night fell, Rainbow Dash, Daring Do and Chaos find where Dr. Caballeron and his henchponies set up camp. Immediately Daring Do began making a disguise for herself by squashing her helmet flat and covering her face with leaves to make a beard. She then approached Caballeron and attempted to buy the ring from him with a large bag of bits. Caballeron was prepared to sell, but Ahuizotl suddenly stormed in and demands the ring. “Caballeron!” Ahuizotl shouted, “The ring!”
However, Caballeron made off with the bits and left the ring behind. Daring Do managed to snatch the ring, revealing herself to Ahuizotl.
“The ring, Daring Do! Give it to me!” Ahuizotl screamed.
“Now, Ahuizotl, you know I love you, but I can't give you the ring 'til I've properly proposed.” Daring's joked causing Chaos and rainbow to snicker.
“I’ll admit that was funny.” Chaos whispered to Rainbow Dash.
Ahuizotl just laughed and said, “Interesting, because my friends here have a proposal of their own.” He then snapped his fingers calling in his army of jungle cats.
“Bring it!” Daring Do exclaimed. She fights the animals off while Rainbow Dash and Chaos watched from the sidelines. However, seeing Daring Do's hat on the ground, Rainbow picks it up and calls out to her.
“Daring Do! I've got your hat! You want me to toss it? Daring Do! Daring Do!” Rainbow yelled.
“Rainbow!” Chaos whispered loudly, “Get back here! You’re going to distract her like you did back at her home.” Her shouting got Ahuizotl's attention, and he grabbed her with his tail. Daring sees Rainbow Dash in danger and is once again distracted long enough for her to be subdued.
“And there it is again.” Chaos said to himself, “I was telling her. But noooo! She had to get the hat and call out to her yet again. Do it once, shame on her. Do it twice, now she’s that obnoxious fan that doesn’t know when to hush it and stay on the sidelines!” As Chaos prepared to join in the fight, Daring Do looked at him and shook her head. Ahuizotl caught the look she was making and looked towards her direction but saw nothing. Luckily, Chaos managed to hide before anyone saw him.
“Don't worry, Daring Do! I'll come help you!” Rainbow Dash exclaimed. Ahuizotl threw her aside as his jungle cats took Daring Do away.
“Don't bother!” She responded, “I'd say you've already helped plenty.”
“What have I done?” Rainbow said to herself.
A while later, Twilight and the others caught up with Chaos and a sullen Rainbow Dash, who informed them that her idol Daring Do and the ring had been captured by Ahuizotl.
“Dash, I'm sure whatever you did was an honest mistake.” Twilight said in an effort to comfort her friend.
“Whatever.” Rainbow replied saddened, “Let's just go home.”
“We can't go back now! Applejack replied, “Looks a mite like she needs our help more than ever!”
“Trying to help is how I got in this mess in the first place.” Rainbow responded, “You were right, Twilight. We should've stayed out of this.”
“Look, there is more going on here than meets the eye. In every Daring Do book, there always is! We can't turn our backs on her!”
“She doesn't want my help, Twilight.”
“Perhaps. But she might need it anyway.”
“No. My hero's way better off without me.”
“No. No. No. No. No. Listen here Rainbow Dash, Twilight is right, she might not want your help but she needs it.” Chaos explained, “Yes, you did get her captured but now it’s time to correct that wrong. Look at it this way, if we don’t help her out, it might just be the end of this world and the end of the Daring Do books. Do you want that on your conscious? Knowing you had the means to help her but you were too afraid to do it?”
“Of course not!” Rainbow replied, “But I messed everything up.”
“That doesn’t matter right now. All that matters is that we save her and help her out in any way we can. And no getting in the way help, but actual help. We fight Ahuizotl if we have to. It's alright to look up to Daring Do, we all need an idol to look up to, but you've put her so high up on a pedestal, you can't even see your own worth anymore! She's in the fortress most likely about to die at the hands of her most deadliest enemy, and we're here, and none of us wouldn't be who we are if we didn't go in to help her! And especially neither would you! She may have worked alone before, but not today. Today, she’s getting our help whether she wants it or not. So, I ask you this, are you with us, or not?”
Somewhere beneath the Fortress of Talacon, Daring Do is restrained to a stone wall and over a pool of piranhas. Before taking leave with the ring, Ahuizotl pulled on a rope lever, causing the chamber to fill with more water. As the piranhas below snap their teeth, Daring Do managed to free her hooves from the wall. Before her weighted restraints pull her down, Rainbow Dash swooped in to her rescue.
“Gotcha!” Rainbow exclaimed with a grunt, “You can flap too, y'know!”
“I was just about to save myself, y'know.” Daring replied.
“Sure you were.” Chaos responded.
“I just thought you might need this.” Rainbow said as she slid Daring’s hat to her.
“Have I mentioned yet that I work alone?” Daring asked somewhat annoyed.
“And have we mentioned we don’t care?” Chaos responded sarcastically.
In the fortress' central chamber, Ahuizotl prepared to use the ring to complete the ritual when Twilight and her friends appear.
“Drop the ring, Ahui... whatever your name is!” Applejack exclaimed. They snatch the ring away and fend off the attempts of Ahuizotl and his henchponies to retrieve it. As the henchponies chase Twilight and company up and down the chamber, Rainbow Dash, Chaos and Daring Do sneak toward the altar.
“Come with me!” Daring told them, “Help me get all these rings off! If we can remove the giant ring at the bottom, the whole fortress will collapse!” Immediately the three of them began removing the rings one by one.
“W-Was this your plan all along?” Rainbow asked confused.
“I had to find a way to get into the fortress.” Daring replied.
“You did it on purpose?! But– but I thought—”
“Less talk, more pulling!” Chaos exclaimed.
“I didn't count on how heavy this ring would be, though... Guess having a little help can be handy sometimes.”
“And you said you didn’t need our help. Especially from someone who “isn’t real” and “just a character or the figment of somepony’s wild imagination.” Chaos replied jokingly.
By the time Ahuizotl retrieved the ring from Twilight and her friends, Rainbow Dash, Chaos and Daring Do succeeded in removing all of the rings except for the last and heaviest one. Daring Do and Rainbow Dash tried to carry the ring by themselves but to no avail. Thinking quickly, Chaos grabbed hold of the ring and pulled on it breaking the stone pillar and causing the fortress's collapse. However, it wasn’t doing it fast enough. “When all else fails, smash!” Chaos shouted as he began punching the ground beneath him.
“Ponies! Run! This place is goin' down!” Rainbow yelled to her friends.
The ponies make their escape from the crumbling fortress, and amidst the rubble, Ahuizotl emerged and yelled, “Daring Do! I will have my revenge!”
“Shut the fuck up!” Chaos’s muffled voice said from amidst the rubble, “No one cares!” He then emerged with a few bruises and scratches. Once Ahuizotl caught a glimpse of Chaos, he cowered in fear.
“This can’t be, you’re not supposed to be real!” He screamed, “It’s just a disguise!”
“Oh really?” Chaos responded with an evil grin on his face, “Could a pony in a disguise do this?” Chaos then proceeded to torture and beat Ahuizotl till he got tired. Before leaving, Chaos threw a severely beaten Ahuizotl as far away as he could.
“If I ever see your ugly ass face again, next time you won’t be so lucky!” Chaos shouted, “Also that was for ruining my favorite shirt!” Once finished, he reunited with the girls who were waiting for him at the end of the dirt road. Noticing the scrapes, bruises, and especially the three Cutie Marks on him, Daring Do began to doubt and question herself.
“T-Those Cutie Marks can’t be real right?” She asked nervously, “You or somepony must’ve painted them on you right?"
“Nope. They’re as real as the one you have or any of the girls have. I prefer to call them tattoos though.” He answered unfazed.
“B-But how? How is that possible?”
“Shit if I know. All I know is that these Marks appeared on me and not to long after I proclaimed the Guardian of Equetria.”
“Fine! I’ll say it!”
“What are you talking about?”
“I’m sorry, okay! I’m sorry that I said you didn’t exist. I just never thought something like this could happen. It sounded too remarkable to actually be real.”
“Ohhh. You meant that. Don’t worry about it. Believe me you aren’t the first one to say that me being here is impossible. Or something along those lines. Granted, I was angry at first but then I realized that I’m a human living in a world with talking ponies, of course there’s going to be some that will deny my existence. It’s all part of the “unique species living in a different world” package. Besides, I’m not the only remarkable one around here. I mean, you and Yearling being the same person. I know Twilight and Rainbow’s mind were blown when they found out. And probably mine if i was a fan.”
“So what do we do with the ring you have Daring Do?” Twilight asked.
“I don’t know.” Daring replied, “I’m thinking we should destroy it. Just case.”
“Allow me.” Chaos said as he took the ring from her, “Watch the master.” Using his telekinetic abilities he broke it in millions of miniscule shards and threw them away.
“Thank you, all of you.” Daring said as Rainbow Dash hugged her, “Could never have done this without you, Rainbow Dash. You too Chaos. I've got a book to finish!”
“Better be good.” Chaos joked.
"You know it.” She replied as she flew towards her house. That night, Rainbow Dash began writing her friendship lesson in her friends' journal, “Just had the coolest adventure with the coolest pony ever. Came this close to blowing it because I got so wrapped up in how awesome she was, I almost forgot about how awesome I was. Good thing I didn't, 'cause it gave me a chance to show her how important it is to put your trust in somepony else.”
A mailpony arrived knocking at her home with a package from A.K. Yearling: an advance copy of the new book, Daring Do and the Ring of Destiny. Rainbow opened the package and became overjoyed to see herself on the front cover alongside Daring Do and a strange figure that seemed rather weird until she realized it was standing up on two legs and didn’t look like anything she had seen or read before. Thus concluding that it was Chaos in the background as to not draw too much attention from her and Daring Do.
