Chapter 1: Storm

A normal day in Ponyville, all the ponies were going about their normal business. The sky was scheduled to be clear and so the ponies were all making the best of their time in the sunshine. The group was just enjoying some refreshing drinks under the veranda of a café in the centre of town; they were discussing what they could do during the afternoon.

‘Well we all could go on down to the lake and go for a cool swim’ said Applejack.

‘Nah, I flew over there on the way here and it’s too crowded to be much fun’ answered Rainbow Dash.

Twilight looked up from a book entitled “locations of relaxation” and said ‘I read that apparently that there is a hot spring up on the side of one of the mountains, it has been forgotten by the other ponies so remains completely unused.’

‘Ooohh that sounds divine, nothing like a hot spring to help a girl relax. Mind you how difficult is it to get to’ asked Rarity?

‘Well it says right her that…oh..uuumm, apparently its not got a path up and that it is only easily accessible by Pegasus, otherwise it is a dangerous ascent up the side of a cliff’ answered Twilight, looking a bit guilty to have teased them with something they could never get to.

‘ah well, I never was much into that whole hot water spa kind of stuff’ said Rainbow Dash ‘anyway I may need to dash in a moment, I’m supposed to be covering the south side and keeping it clear of clouds.’

‘Well maybe we could have a party once Dash returns from her work’ said Pinkie.

‘Maybe not the best idea we have had so far, we can have a party on any day, we need to make the most out of this day’ said Applejack.

‘We could all go for a picnic in the park’ said Fluttershy.

‘That seems like the best idea so far, let’s do it’ said Twilight.

The ponies agreed and all took a large swig from their glasses. The foam of the drink stuck to Pinkie’s face and the others laughed and Pinkie joined in. The sun reached the peak of its height and stood directly overhead of the ponies watching them and shining its life giving light over them. The light was suddenly cut out, all the ponies looked up to see an expansive sea of grey cloud covering the sky. It appeared so suddenly it was almost as if it simply appeared without having to go through the process of having to have moved into its position.

‘That’s odd, it was supposed to be clear all day’ said Rainbow Dash, ‘someone must have messed up with the scheduling of the weather. Damn it Derpy I knew that she wouldn’t be able to do the job’

The clouds began to swirl towards a centre point above the town hall; it got faster and faster until the wind became strong enough to pick up loose items. The clouds started to form a tornado, except instead of reaching for the ground it stretched up towards the sky. Streaks of lightning arced from the clouds and struck at buildings starting small fires that were quickly attempted to be put out by the ponies. The tunnel of cloud was directly above the six and they could see all the way to the top and saw the pinprick of light at the top go out. Suddenly the point where the light was shone out with a blinding light that made spots appear in the ponies eyes. A high pitched whine grew and grew as the light became brighter. Just at the point where it became completely unbearable it dropped away to then be suddenly replaced with a loud boom. A streak of blurred light came crashing down from the top of the tunnel, it crashed into the ground forming a deep crater and kicking up a thick veil of dust and dirt.

The ponies approached gingerly with fear of what they would find in the crater. As they neared, a silhouette of a deformed pony came over the crest of the crater. While it was still moving on all four legs, it was hunched over and moved as if it was not its normal style of moving. It had no tail and through the dust they could make out a mane, but it was cut very short. As it neared it got up onto its hind legs and stumbled towards them, it got within a few meters before it fell to its knees and fell face first into the dirt.

The six of them approached the body and got a clear look at it, it was wearing a white T-shirt, had a pair of blue trousers and was wearing white shoes on its feet. At the end of its front legs, no they weren’t legs they were arms, and on the end of them it had hands and fingers not so dissimilar from that of Spike’s except it had five fingers instead of four. The six of them quickly realised that what lay before them was not a pony, it wasn’t like any creature ever seen in all Equestria.

The six of them looked at each other and nodded in silent agreement. They lifted the body up and carried in the direction of the library.
