The world as we knew... was gone, forever. In 2019, our newly elected president, Donald Trump, ordered a nuclear attack on North Korea due to the latest development on North Korea. The North Koreans issued a new shipment of uranium and plutonium, coming from the USSR. The President feared the worst, sending warning shot towards a small town called Musan. Infuriated by the destruction of Musan, Kim Jong-un declared,"This is an act of war." Kim issued a full on thermonuclear strike on the west to counter the attacks. The Koreans fired two warheads, the Taepodong, to Japan and the Philippines, a close ally of the United States. The range of these missiles can reach both countries capitals, Manila and Tokyo. The Americans were furious, and declared to"Avenge both nations." Due to these popular words, the Americans issued an attack on North Korea, which was a retaliation.
The world threw itself into a decision. Mongolia, Canada, the ASEAN nations, and most of Africa joined the U.S effort. Iran, China, Germany, Russia, and Italy joined the Koreans to eliminate the U.S and its supporters. This only happened 10 years ago, but today, we are survivors of the war. Only 15,000 of us are left in the world, and food is draining rapidly. We call ourselves the Internicionem, we are the few but we are strong. And we’ll stay that way.

I was driving down the lone highway that lead to my home town, while my buddy sleeping at the back of the Humvee. Our mission is to scout out an abandoned warehouse that supposedly has a group of survivors. We are to locate the group and escort them to the nearest outpost named Ghost.
I'm around 18 right now, pale guy, skinny but not that skinny. I also sport a small red mustache. I don't usually go to work out like the other guy, I usually study but due to the fact that a unknown virus is killing us off, they assigned me this mission along side with my best friend, Michael Howle.
Michael... was a curious guy, he would always like to go on these types of mission. He would rather save than kill, but personally, if it's a life or death situation, I think he’d rather live than die.
The highway was completely empty, not a single damn car was blocking our route to our destination.
"That's strange," I said to myself as I continue to drive down the strangely empty highway. "Usually there would be a car or something on the highway?"
The rest of the ride was actually quiet until Michael woke up. I looked at him as he slowly started to get off back seat and into the front seat.
He patted me in the back. "Sooo..." His words drifted. He paused for a second. "Are we there yet?" He playfully whined.
He then chuckled as I moaned in annoyance before paying my attention to the road. Sometimes he can be a huge pain in the ass, but I have to tolerate him if I'm going to complete this mission.
"Ahh, come on," He chuckled some more. "Don't be like that."
I rounded the corner, seeing the warehouse in the distance. I sigh in relief, seeing my objective.
Finally, I was starting to think that I was lost. I thought to myself
"We're finally here." I said to Michael, parking the humvee to the side of building that casted a eerie shadow over us. "Okay, let get ready."
I put on my gas mask due to the fact that the air was contaminated. I put on my white sleeveless shirt that I usually wear when I'm on missions like this, aside with a ballistic vest that can withstand a few M4A1 bullets. I got on my camo jeans while Michael got on his brown army shirt and his green shorts.
Our equipment is limited of course, my sidearm is the old fashion Beretta Modello 84 while his was a colt model 1911A1. My rifle was a MCEM 2 firing 9mm bullets but with some of my own designs, like I modified it to hold ACOG scope to better it accuracy. Michael's rifle was a AK-47, holding a ACOG scope. I held a few flashbangs if this mission goes south. We don't want any mutants to get a drop on us.
We exited the humvee, looking at abandoned warehouse. The windows were obviously beyond repair. I took notice that the wind was hitting against the loosened door that kept slamming the side of the building. The whole building looked like it was hit by a tornado. Well... half of the planet basically died, because our president decided to give Kim Jong Un the middle finger.
I switched the safety switch on my gun off, motioning Michael over towards the door that lead inside. He nodded, switching his safety switch off before slowly walking over the door, cautious of what's inside. With his gun pointed at the door, he kicks it down with a mighty blow, and as he does this, a blast of cold air hits us, sending chills down our spines.
We enter the warehouse, the insides were worse than the outside. The floor was raised down a little bit. The walls were crumbling down, but it looked like it melted down, burned. The titles on the floor looked like they were cracked or shattered. Honestly, I expected this actually, like every building that I visited beyond the border was trashed or looted, much like this one.
I looked around, turning on my flashlight, seeing that the first floor was practically drowned with water, due to the broken pipelines, it seeping out of some creaks and places. I searched the floor while Michael waited by the stairs. I found only a few broken chairs and tables until we heard a thump coming from upstairs. Michael and I both immediately gazed at the staircase that lead to the second floor.
Me and Michael raced upstairs to the second floor, the sunlight shining upon strips of wallpaper that was sticking out like a nail. The roof was just destroyed, some of the stalls was hanging off it. Some of the roof that stuck to the wall were still firmly attached. There was some holes that you could easily fall through on the long hallway.
“Ya Know?” He turn his gaze towards me. “This, all of this could have been prevented if Trump lost 2% of his voters,” Michael said. We moved the rubble aside as we continued our way to the other side of the facility.
The rays of sunlight reached our eyes, the hot, powerful sun as its source. On the distance, I see a heap of rubble move ever so slightly. I gave Michael a weary look. He just shrugged it off.
“Don’t be such a pussy,” He said. Oh Jesus, he’s doing this again, I thought. Michael was an optimist. “Come on, may be a survivor.” He said, even if the rubble was… growling? He’s too much of an optimist.
“Michael, wait!” I said as I went after him. I know he’s rolling my eyes at me, I just know it.
“Dude, relax,” he stated simply.
Before I could reach him, the rubble looked like it exploded. Michael stumbled backward, holding his AK tight.
“Sweet mercy!” He cried as he pulled the trigger of the automatic. A ghoul jumped at him, screeching like a mad man, knocking his AK to the ground.
“Get off of him!” I shouted at it before firing my MCEM 2 but missing terribly. “I said get off!”
The ghoul hissed before Michael kicked it off of him. The ghoul scrambled on the ground, trying to get up but I helded it down. I grabbed my Beretta Modello 84 out of it holster before putting a hole between its eyes, ending it's pitiful life.
I let out a sigh, when the warheads hit it didn't took long before people started to turn into these things . Fraled, practically dead, always hungry for meat but not just meat, human meat, they crave for it. They don't even speak anymore, all they do is eat and eat. They’re not even human anymore
"God Dammit!" Michael said, practically screaming. "That, that was close."
I pick him off of the ground. He stared at me for a few seconds before letting out a chuckle, smiling.
“Thank you.” He said, looking at the dead corpse of the ghoul. “Damn, I didn't think that ghouls would be this far south?”
I stared at the ghoul, If there a ghoul here then there must be a feeding ground near by. I thought to myself.
“We need to hurry.” I walked over to Michael gun before tossing it towards him. “There will probably be more.” I walked past him, towards another building of the facility.
I busted the door in, the room looks like a medical station of some sort. The lights flicker as we enter, I then notice that is was cold as shit in here, seeing that my breath was visible.
God damn, why is it cold in here
Micheal seem to notice this too as he started to shake slightly before looking at me with this concerned look but he shook it off as we continued to make our way through the medical station. I notice that the station was completely undamaged like nothing happen to it. I could help but to feel like we were being watch.
I was interrupted by my friend as he shook me from my thoughts. I glanced at him but as I looked at him, I couldn't help but to see something moving. I moved Micheal aside, aiming at it but seeing nothing there.
I let out a sigh. I must be seeing things.
“Are you okay?” Micheal looked at me with this worried look, “You seem bit edgy you know.”
“I’m fine.” I said glancing at him with a reassuring look. “I just thought I saw something that’s all.”
He nodded before walking ahead as I looked at the spot. Am I going crazy or something?
I raced over to Micheal, he glance at me beside him before smiling.
We searched every room, except for one. All the rooms had a few broken chairs and beds but sadly no survivors. I really want to get out of here, this place has a bad feeling to it. Then again everything beyond the border has a bad vibe to it.
I felt something shaking me out of my thoughts. I look over to see my friend pointing his gun behind me before I could look behind me a ear banging screech rang through out the building, making me to cover my ears. I knew what it was, looking behind me seeing nothing but darkness. I turn on my flashlight, gasping in pure terror to see a herd of ghouls heading straight towards us.
“Shit,” I whispered, looking at my friend. “RUN!!”
We ran down the long stretching hallway, while firing into the herd of ghouls. Then I realize that we are in the feeding ground, this whole facility is a damn feeding ground.
Fuck, fuck, fuck.
We reached at the end of the hallway, I quickly told Micheal to get in while I fired a few rounds into the the hungry group of flesh eating ghouls before closing the door. I held the door while the ghouls tried to bust in,
Like hell im gonna die like this
“Micheal help me with this.” I motion over to the door.
He rushed over to me, holding the door while I started to gather stuff to block the door. Chairs, pretty much anything will help so we wont become a human sandwich for the ghouls.
After I barricade the door, I look over to Micheal before chuckling, we manage to escape the horde of ghouls and now we’re laughing.
We looked behind only to meet a large room with a strange structure in the middle. Everything seemed like nothing happen to it, the walls and roof is all intact, the only thing that seemed to be disturbed is few boxes that is broken down.
The structure had strange markings on it that glowed a beautiful purple but something was wrong with it, as we grew near whispers seem to radiate from it. It whispered a language that I’ve never heard of.
I touched it, it seemed to recognize me. I backed off it as a hand began to form where I touched it. It glowed a magnificent blue that seemed to glow more brightly by every second. I looked at Micheal who was dumbfound as he started to glow too,
I look at myself seeing that I was glowing blue too. I suddenly felt warm, like a fuzzy warm.
Micheal finally out of his dumbfound state looked at me before gasping
“Dude,” He said, looking at himself. “Wh-what is happening?”
I only stood there, overwhelmed by this warm feeling and before I knew it, I blacked out as I heard a whisper in clear english saying.
“Welcome”

I rushed towards the tower for my rifle and equipment, they issued an important meeting at the commander’s tent and I wanted to be sharp and ready in case this was a recon mission.
I looked up seeing the flight of stairs before letting out a sigh of annoyance.
Come on really!?
I began to climb up the stairs as quickly as possible, due to the fact that the meeting would be in a few minutes, only to start growing tired after what could be the longest flight of stairs, during my time in the military. I reached the top of the tower, gathering my equipment along side my weapons.
AG-3 with custom-made attachments of ACOG scope with a foregrip attachment, this gun saved my sorry ass plenty of times during the ops beyond the border. You couldn't ask for a better gun then this fine, sexy bitch.
I reached for my two reliable handguns, handy hardballers. These two lovely girls are practically family to me. They have been with me since the beginning and will stick by me until the end. I placed my girls into their holsters before returning attention to my equipment.
My equipment was standard issue, a few M26 grenades, flashbangs but in desperate times they can be very appropriate especially when It comes to dealing with a large group of monstrous creatures. I really wouldn't be here if it wasn't for my equipment. It seemed to all of equipment checked out, after I placed them on the proper places.
I raced down the long ass stairs, I mean what the fuck, why would I place them here above all else, it had to be here. What hell was I thinking, oh wait I was drunk as a godforsaken sailor. I'm actually surprised that I remembered that late night, It was fun for sure, but then again I had a fight with one of the private and the private gave me a real painful mark on my side. Respectfully I made him pay for that, putting him on the floor. I think his name was Ryan, Private Ryan, Dean was his name, we had a few drinks after that, he told his story and I told mine.
His story was quite interesting, when he was a kid, his mother was eaten by a ghoul, motherfucker ripped her face off and ate it. I gotta say, kinda freaky when he said it, his tone was...deadless, emotionless. I feel bad for the kid, it must be terrible to actually see your own mother being eaten by those heartless fuckers. It only make me more angry to find out that his entire family was killed by them, he won't stop until he kills every single one of them, I can hear the hatred in his voice when he said it. That's the only reason why he joined the army, to avenge his family, his kin.
I really hope he accomplish his personal goal but he's gonna have to survive boot-camp, to even get a chance to go out there, to explore deserted wasteland beyond the border. Only trained personal can be able to go out there and scavenge and maybe be able to locate survivors, if any that is.
I reached to the bottom of the tower before exiting it, the dust blew across my face as I quickly covered my eyes. The destruction of the world made it more difficult to see, in some parts of the world would have massive sandstorms for no apparent reason, some people say it's because how the nukes' radiation effected the environment but I honestly don't care about it.
I made it across the camp with little effort before entering the Com-Center where the meeting is at. I can hear the Captain's voice beyond the door, I was meet by the eyes of my fellow soldiers as I rushed to my seat but before I could sit down, the sound of the captain prevented me.
"Late again, Mills." He said roughly. "What is your excuse this time?"
"Heh, sorry capt." I apologized, chuckling slightly. "Had to get my stuff."
The Captain unaffected by this, sigh before continuing the meeting. While I sat down right next to my trusted friend, Ben. He was with me, mostly on the toughest missions, like clearing a nest of ghouls or attacking a raiders' camp. I looked at him as he was focused on the Captain's speech before looking at the Captain.
"Okay, were was I before I was rudely interrupted." He glared daggers at me, before redirection his attention to the others. "We are dealing with a possible missing report in sector 45. Pvt Lairson, Robert and Pvt Howle, Michael, was reported missing by one of their love ones, their locators disappeared included. Now our job is to locate them and bring them home, if possible. Get some sleep, your gonna need it for tomorrow."
They sound familiar, but where?
The Captain walked out of the room as the soldiers chattered about the mission as me and Ben walked back to our barracks but during the walk, he started to talk about the two missing soldiers.
"So, what do you think?" I looked at him, confusingly. "Oh come on, you gotta admit, they do sound familiar."
"Yeah, they do, but something is up about this whole thing." I looked down, full of thoughts.
Something is up, but what?
I can't really put my figure on it but somethings' wrong about this, It just a feeling but it's a strong feeling and I'm very cautious about my feelings. It's like a six sense, you just know whats' going to happen but your not sure when it's going to happen and I'm usually right about it too, it's weird but It's been helpful sometimes. It happens when something big is about to happen, but this, this is different, it's more noticeable, something big is gonna happen and I know it involves with the missing soldiers.
"What do yeah think?" He asked, folding his arms around his neck in a playful manner. "Is your six sense thing working or something."
"Yeah, but its more noticeable and you know what that means."
"Something big is coming." He answered solemnly.
