The Royal Assassin
The Assassin
Previous ChapterI stared down into the streets of Canterlot, perched on one of the many gargoyles that covered Princess Luna's tower. I saw a few people walking around through the streets or partying through the night like crazy people. They ,however, were not my concern. My only concern was a certain spoiled Prince that always walked a certain street every night. He made it to easy to track him down. He would always go to one of the bars in the streets and stay there for a few hours. Eventually he would come out, and when he did, I will finish my mission and head home for the night.
I waited on that gargoyle for about three hours. By now he would have been long gone and would be at home. I know he didn't leave yet because I followed him here. He hasn't walked through the front doors. I began to get suspicious. I was about to go down there and check until I saw a carriage come by. I stood still and watched the scene before me.
The cart was a royal carriage. I suspected that it may be Blueblood's, but he never left in a carriage. He usually never left in a carriage. I saw the driver step off the carriage and walk into the bar. I waited for him to return. A few minutes later he came out, but this time he was with someone else. He had Prince Blueblood in his arms. He was trying to drag the prince. I instantly began to panic, but that was when I realized what the situation was. When I looked closely, I saw that the prince had a beer bottle in his hand. He was drunk.
I smiled as I saw the driver throw the prince's body in the carriage. It seemed that I had to do this the hard way. I took my eyes off the scene and looked down from my perch. I saw that there was no way for me to get down easily since I was pretty high and the city's building were too far for me to jump. I needed to use a piece of tech to reach the buildings before they left. I reached behind me and grabbed my advanced zip line.
The zip line was different from other zip lines I had used. This one was portable and was able to connect a cable between two areas so I would be able to zip line across. All I needed was to aim one end of the device to where I want to go and where the line would position itself. I aimed at one of the buildings and made sure the other side was pointing towards the wall behind me. I pulled the trigger on the device and , at the same time, one hook shot out from each end. I looked down at the carriage and saw it was about to leave. I connected the device to the line and jumped off my perch.
I sailed through the air as I saw the carriage making a U-turn in the street. A few seconds passed before I landed on top of one of the many buildings in this city. I quickly retracted the line into my device and placed it in one of my pouches on my waist. I looked down onto the street from the building I was on top of. I saw that the carriage was done making it's U-turn and was moving back the direction it came from. I didn't waste any time on seeing where it was going. I ran after the carriage.
I ran across the roofs of the buildings that covered Canterlot like a blanket. I was able to keep pace with the carriage even with it turning into another street every now and then. What made me wonder was why did it need to travel so far. I would've thought that the Prince would live in the Castle. From what I could tell, the carriage was traveling in the exact opposite direction. I didn't think on this any more as I saw the carriage turn into a neighborhood. I groaned.
I ran and jumped from house to house, trying to be quiet so I didn't wake anybody up. I kept following the carriage until I saw we were approaching what looked liked a big white mansion. I stopped running when I reached one of the buildings that was close to the mansion. I stood on the roof, observing where they're taking the Prince. I saw the driver step off the carriage and walk to the compartment. He opened the doors and stepped back when Blueblood fell out. I resisted the urge to laugh.
I watched the driver drag the prince on the sidewalk to the front door. The driver made it to the door and knocked. A moment passed before the door was answered. I saw that the man opening the door seemed to be a butler. He wore the usual butler attire with the black suit and towel draped over his arm. He looked down and saw the Prince sprawled all over the front porch. I saw his head droop and he helped the driver bring the prince in.
I took my eyes off the scene and studied the house. It was a big white house with a few lights on in some of the rooms. I saw the butler and driver dragging the prince's body through some of the windows. I saw the were making their way towards the left side of the building. I bet they were taking him to his room . I looked through the windows on the left side of the mansion and I saw the three entered into the view. I saw them walk to a part of the room where I couldn't see. The butler and driver cam back into view a few seconds later, but the prince wasn't with them. They must have put him in his bed. He was in his room. I smiled.
I knew where my target was, now all I needed was a way in. I didn't see any guards through the windows when I checked. He probrably doesn't have a lot of guards or he has none at all. He is just making this too easy for me. I could just easily climb through his window and kill him in his sleep. I jumped off the roof I was standing on and landed on the ground with a soft thud. Years of training had made me from very quiet to inaudible.
I slowly made my way to the house, making sure to stay out of the light of the neighborhood lamps. From what I've learned, darkness was my ally. I crouch walked towards the left side of the building. When I reached the building, I made sure to be underneath the window I saw the prince in. I looked up and tried to find anything I could climb on. His room was on the third floor so I had to climb. I climbed up onto the first story window and made my way up to the third.
I climbed to the Prince's window and I made sure that no one was outside. When I was done checking, I looked inside the Prince's room to see where he was. I was surprised to see that he was sitting at his desk next to his bed. It looked like he was looking down at something. The mirror in front of him showed that he was frowning. I took my eyes off the prince and checked to see if there was a lock on the window. I found that there was no lock or even a latch. He was just begging for someone to kill him. Who the fuck doesn't at least own latched windows.
I quietly slid the window open and I crawled inside the room. When I stepped in the room I propped the window open with one of my knifes to keep it open. I looked at the Prince still exactly where I saw him. I don't think he noticed me since he didn't look back. He wasn't even looking up at the mirror. He could just easily look up and see me. I sighed and reached back to pull a knife from one of my many pockets. Before I could walk towards him, I heard a sniff.
I looked at the mirror closely and was surprised to see that the prince was crying. His eyes were all puffy and red and he had tears running down his face. I hesitated and stepped closer. I tried to see what he was looking down at, but his body was covering it up. I stopped instantly when he moved. He moved down and grabbed the object he was looking at. He revealed the object to be a .44 magnum revolver. He pointed the barrel of the gun at the side of his head.
"I'm sorry Mother!" he cried. I tried to stop him, but I was too late. He pulled the trigger and a loud bang filled the room. My eyes went wide when I saw the prince's blood and brains splat all over the mirror and floor beside him. I just stood there, dumfounded that the Prince had just killed himself right in front of me. I then heard voices from outside the room.
"Did you hear that? It sounded like a gunshot. It came from the Prince's room!" I heard people from outside the room. I began to panic. I thought quickly and checked the Prince's body for the proof. I checked his hand and was relieved to see that he was wearing the golden ring Celestia had mentioned. I quickly pulled his ring off and slipped it on my ring finger. I turned around and ran towards the window. I dived through the window and landed outside. I didn't bother to look back. I began to run towards the Castle, completely forgetting about the knife I left.

I climbed up one of the towers of the castle, my mind still a blur after the event that had happened a hour ago. So many questions had filled my mind. Why did the Prince kill himself? What should I tell Celestia? What will people think when the news gets out? All the these questions plagued my mind as I struggled to climb the high tower. I saw the balcony I had entered before above me. I climbed a few more feet and pulled myself up onto the balcony. I walked towards the balcony doors and opened them, walking inside the Princess's room.
I looked around the Princess's room, trying to see if She was in here. My eyes slowly drifted towards the tea table I last saw her at. My eyes widened when I saw that she was sitting exactly where I left her. Her head was rested on the table with her arms crossed underneath her. I slowly walked over to the princess and nudged her arm slightly, trying to wake her up.
When I shook her arm, she instantly woke up and shot up, sitting perfectly up right. Her eyes were widened and surprised. I was surprised to see her so alert. I tapped her shoulder and she slowly looked over at me. She instantly became relaxed when she saw me. She smiled and then yawned.
"Hello, Zareal." she said while stretching her arms above her. She finished stretching and looked down at her empty tea cup in front of her. She stared at the cup for a few seconds before her eyes suddenly drooped. She stared at the cup sadly. I raised a brow, wondering what she was thinking.
"Zareal, I-is it done?" she asked, not taking her eyes off the tea cup. I nodded.
"Yes Princess. It is done." I replied calmly. I saw her expression change from tired to sad.
"I s-see." she mumbled. I could see that her words were strained. She looked like she was trying her best not to cry. She looked up at me, a few tears in the corners of her eyes.
"Do you have the proof?" she asked sadly. I nodded. I reached down and pulled the ring off my ring finger. I handed it to her and she took it slowly, observing it closely. She then suddenly gasped. She covered her mouth and started to cry. I raised a brow and looked at the ring. I then understood why the sudden change of character from the princess. I didn't notice it before, but when the prince shot himself, he got some blood on his ring. I saw a few droplets of blood that covered part of the ring. I looked down at the princess and saw her eyes closed, trying to hold back the tears that were pouring from her eyes.
"Are you okay, Princess?" I asked. She shook her head violently. She then quickly looked up at me. He eyes bloodshot and tears pouring down her face with mascara mixed with the tears.
"No! Everything is not alright! I just ordered you to kill my fucking nephew!" she exclaimed. I recoiled at the volume of her noise. She then buried her face In her hand and began sobbing. I sighed and walked over to her, bringing her into a soft embrace. When I wrapped my arms around her, Celestia instantly did the same. She wrapped her arms around me like a vise and continued sobbing into my chest. I slowly stroked her hair, trying to calm her down.
"I'm a fucking monster! I can remember the same little boy all those years ago! I can remember all the good times we had together when he was young! Now I've gone and fucking ordered you to kill him!" she sobbed. I just stood there, stroking her hair as she cried her eyes out to her loss. I didn't have the courage to tell her he blew his brains out. I didn't think that would make anything better.
I stood there for ten minutes, holding the princess. I then noticed that I couldn't hear her crying anymore. I looked down and saw her asleep in my arms. I smiled and pulled her arms off of me. I hooked my left arm behind her arms and my right underneath her legs, minding her silk white dress. I carried her over to her bed, bridal style. I placed her in her bed and tucked her in. I walked away from the Princess towards the balcony doors. I opened the doors and looked back. I saw the princess had shifted to where her back faced me. I sighed and made my way off the balcony, heading home.
