Vendetta
Saving Rara
Previous ChapterNext ChapterRarity woke up that morning like every morning since she lost her sister, angry and irritable. She changed out of her long red nightgown and back into her assassin attire. This was her life now and nothing would change that. She looked in the mirror and saw the same thing she always saw, her sister and Spitfire. Sweetie Bell was dangling above a group of necromorphs screaming for help and Spitfire instead stood frozen at seeing her mother’s body lying lifeless in a puddle of blood.
Rarity shook her head and smashed the mirror. “She just couldn’t be professional could she?” She was so focused on what she was thinking that she hadn’t noticed Twilight come in.
“You still aren’t over that yet Rarity?” Twilight asked but didn’t get an answer, only a groan. “Where were you Rarity, when she died?”
“Where was I, trying to help my sister, that’s where. The scars on my back are proof of that. I had just lost my friends, my mother and father and yet I pushed through to help others, so don’t go defending Spitfire. I would have liked to see her fail getting to her than just stand like a statue crying her eyes out. I was crying too Twilight, I” Rarity started shaking and tears formed in her eyes. She fell to her hands and knees. “I tried so hard to get to her. I tried everything I could to save my sister but I failed.” Her breathing became almost stagnant.
“Rarity, there is nothing I can say to make you feel better but for the record, I wish I had been there.” Twilight turned and walked away.
Rarity eventually stood up off the ground and calmed herself down. She took in big breaths and then grabbed her weapons. She needed to clear her head and the best way to do that was shoot. She pulled her weapon up over her shoulder and carried some ammo in her hands. Rarity made her way through the main room and over to the elevator. The smell of toast and jam filled her nose but she ignored it and stepped into the elevator.
Once Rarity reached the roof, she screamed into the air and stomped once on the ground. “Why, why did we have to stay here of all the effed up places? We never should have let Starlight build this place.” She took her rifle and looked into the distance through the scope. Many of the uninhabitable buildings were covered in the corruption. She could see everything from the roof including the large corrupted building harboring Starlight, her necromorphs and the marker. One day she would get in there and blow the place apart. After that she would blow up this building as well just to try and rid her memory of Starlight. “Stupid Starlight and her stupid magic. Twilight will be the only mage I like.”
Rarity saw a group of the undead and quickly loaded her gun with the little explosive ammo she had. She knew she shouldn’t use it but she was far too angry to think clearly. She aimed at the group a mile off and fired. The bullet hit at the feet of the necromorphs and blew them to bits. She set down her sniper and looked over the edge. Necromorphs were hitting the force field Twilight set up around the building designed to reject hostiles but could be shot through from the inside.
Rarity heard the elevator lower and rise. “Twilight, could you please use you magic to counter Starlight so we can end this?”
“You know I won’t, magic is just too tempting. The power I get from using it is incredible and I don’t want to get to used to it. I don’t want to lose control of myself. You have seen where magic can lead when you want to rule and with that much power at my disposal, I can’t risk losing myself. I won’t give magic the chance to control me.” Twilight looked out over the horizon.
“Don’t give me that crap Twilight, you have no problem controlling it. You put up this force field no problem.” Rarity looked through her scope.
“It only looked like it Rarity, on the outside nothing changes but on the inside. I got to a point that I felt invincible. That thought led to me thinking that I didn’t need anyone. It wasn’t until after I finished putting up the shield that I was able to shake my head and clear my thoughts. I do need someone Rarity, I can’t do things by myself and I don’t want to. The problem is I still get that feeling of not needing anyone. It’s not common but it’s there and so magic just isn’t something I want to use. It’s an emergency mechanism, that’s it.”
Rarity looked at Twilight, her mouth open. “I didn’t know you felt that way, why didn’t you tell me?”
Twilight sighed and looked at Rarity. “I didn’t need you to worry about me and besides, I’m fine. It’s you I worry about. You have such anger toward people who should be allies.” Just then a scream was heard and both girls looked over the edge.
Rarity aimed and noticed Rara running from three Brutes. Rarity shakily aimed at the Brute closest to Rara who was running toward the tower. She fired and hit the brute in the face which only slowed it down. The other two were hit by the blast but didn’t stop and were closing in on Rara. Rarity fired another bullet and blasted one of the brutes arms off. She fired again and again until she was empty and had to reload. She reloaded and fired off six shots with normal rounds and then had to reload again. She was angry and sad and it was effecting her aim. She should have hit the weak spots in the first shot but her aim was sloppy and her mind was clouded.“Come on Rara!” Rarity screamed as Rara ran through the force field through a small hole in the group of necromorphs.
“Come on Twilight, I need you.” Rarity ran into the elevator and pushed button one. Twilight grabbed her staff and ran into the elevator as it began to close. The trip down was silent and tense. The two held their weapons at the ready; Twilight with her staff and Rarity with her pistol. The elevator reached the fifth floor when it shook and stopped. Rarity cursed and aimed at the elevator doors while Twilight forced them open. The elevator was between the fourth and fifth floor with a small hole near the bottom. “I have your back dear.” Twilight groaned knowing that meant she would exit first. Once Twilight was out of the elevator, Rarity climbed out. “Let’s move.”
Twilight wanted to slap Rarity but now wasn’t the time to risk any chance of an argument starting. She decided to just go with the flow and hoped Rara would be alright. Besides, this wasn’t one of the floors to get caught unaware by a necromorph. Some of the lights flickered on and off while most were just off. “Let’s just get her out and go.” Twilight took the lead down the hall. Her and Rarity could hear the clunking of the undead in the vents. Despite their calm and collected exterior, their hearts raced a mile a minute and tried to jump from their chests when a loud noise was made.
They made it to the stairs at the end of the hall when the sound of a vent crashing to the ground was heard. Rarity was quicker than Twilight to turn around. Without hesitation, she fired three shots into the big yellow sack causing the Necromorph to explode and sent the two flying to the ground with minimal damage. They stood up and rubbed their sore spots. “Yeah, that’s not going to attract anything.” Rarity said sarcastically. Quickly, the two opened the door and made their way down the broken steps. They had to make small leaps over gaps the entire way down to the first floor. Once they reached the bottom, Twilight opened the door to the bottom floor and walked in with Rarity right behind. “Rara.” Rarity whispered as loud as possible without attracting attention.
“There, I see her.” Twilight pointed and started to run over but was told to stop. “Rara, what’s wrong?”
“It’s on the wall.” Rara weakly shown her light on the wall beside Twilight and Rarity. This irritated the Guardian and caused it to shoot out its pods. “Kill it and I’ll come to you.”
Twilight looked to the guardian and then turned to Rarity. “It’s all you Rare, have fun.”
Rarity pulled out her rifle while Twilight hid behind a wall. Without using magic, Twilight was useless against a Guardian. Rarity aimed and fired before having to lower her weapon and dodge the sharp projectile from the pods. Rarity did this six times before the guardian wailed and died. She switched to her pistol and took out each of the pods. “Rara, you ok?” Rara limped over to Rarity and Twilight.
“I’ll be fine, let’s get out of here and may I use the handgun?” Rara asked and Rarity accommodated. “Let’s move.” Rara took the lead much to Rarity’s disapproval. The trip up was busy and exhausting. Lurkers were in the stairways as well as Slashers. They had been easy to deal with, it was the stairs causing most of the trouble. Rarity cut ahead on the twelfth floor while Twilight helped Rara up. It wasn’t until they neared the fifteenth floor that a Tentacle reached out and grabbed Rara by the leg and dragged her down the stairs and into the hall on the fourteenth floor. Rarity and Twilight ran down to get their friend but found they hadn’t needed to. “I said I’m fine, all I needed was the handgun.” Rara checked the clip and found it empty. “It’s empty, all well.” Rara stood up and continued limping up the stairs toward the fifteenth floor.
The three reached their floor and shut the door behind them. Twilight noticed a lot more then just a few scrapes and bruises. Rara was cut up from head to toe and her foot was the size of a tennis ball. Her eye was black and her head was bleeding. One of her arms were broken and when Rara sat down, Twilight could have sworn she heard something break. Her torso was diagonally cut from shoulder to hip. Then there was Rarity who wasn’t in as bad of shape but was still cut up. “Rara, you are in no way fine.”
Rara smiled and then violently coughed up blood and fell to the floor. “Twilight!” Rarity yelled.
“I’m going for a med kit.” Twilight started to leave when Rarity grabbed her arm. “Rarity, let go.”
“Twilight, you don’t need to find a med kit or anything, you have the ability to heal her.” Rarity said pulling Twilight toward their friend.
Twilight pulled her arm away and shook her head. “I can’t do that, it’s too risky.”
“For you or for her, she needs help now Twilight!” Rarity yelled as she saw Rara begin to shake sporadically on the floor.
“Fine.” Twilight began to shake as she focused on healing Rara. She was scared one of the times she used magic, she would leave everything behind. Everything was going well until her mind started thinking. The healing was still happening but her thoughts were now on the wonder of power. What kinds of things she could accomplish with the ability to heal oneself. Why should she do anything for anyone else, she had the power. More and more thoughts entered her mind and then Rara’s gasps for air broke her from them. Twilight backed up breathing heavily and terrified. She looked at her friend unconscious on the floor and then turned to Rarity. Without so much as a thought she brought her hand back and slapped Rarity as hard as she could. “DON’T YOU EVER ASK ME TO USE MAGIC AGAIN!” Twilight turned shaking and went to her room.
Rarity stood stunned but was happy to have her friend alive.
