Faust's Suspicions

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Spike walked through the hallways. He had gotten detention with Faust, of all people. It was for one of the stupidest things, having a soda during class. He couldn't believe she would give him detention for something so silly. He walked into his mother's office and said, "I'm here for my detention..."

Faust looked up from her paperwork and said, "Good, have a seat." When Spike sat down in one of the chairs in her office, she said, "I haven't been that honest with you. I didn't give you detention for having a soda in class. It was the only way I could get to talk to you. You seem to always avoid me and my daughter Topaz. Do you mind explaining?"

Spike growled internally and said, "No, I just don't want to be around you two. I've heard of what your organization researches, and I don't want to be near anyone like that."

Faust raised an eyebrow and asked, "And how would you know what my organization researches? That's highly classified information."

Spike said to himself, "Crap. I said too much." and then said out loud, "My uncle used to be an employee there, and when he quit, he told me why, he couldn't stand the research. He thought it defied the laws of physics and nature."

Faust told him, "While I highly doubt that, I'll say that I buy it. How much did he tell you?"

Spike scoffed and said, "More than enough. You were torturing a strange creature in order to further research into the multiverse theory."

Faust sighed and said, "While that is true, I've given up on that. My husband is gone, there's nothing more to it."

Spike scoffed again and said, "If you don't mind, I'm calling off this whole farce. Stay away from me. I want nothing to do with you, Topaz, or anyone close to you." before getting up, going out the door and slamming it shut.

Faust sighed, not trying to stop him. She looked at a picture of when her husband and son were still around with her.

Spike was met by an upset Topaz who said, "I heard everything that went on in there. Why do you have such a problem with us? And don't think I'll fall for that bullshit you force fed my mother."

Spike growled and said, "Fine, you want to know the truth? I-I... no! I'm not getting involved with this! Not now, not ever again! I'll get a restraining order if it'll keep you nut jobs away from me!"

Before Spike could get away from her, Topaz grabbed him firmly by his arm and said, "What do you mean again? We haven't met until we first came here. You're hiding something Spike, and I bet it has to do with Bahamut. You know him, don't you!?"

Spike pulled his arm away and said, "Yeah, I knew Bahamut... I tried to stop him... he killed himself! He told me to tell his family he was sorry... but I couldn't bring myself to it! Just leave it alone, Bahamut's dead! Let his soul rest in peace!" and ran off, tears in his eyes.

Topaz stood shocked, before falling to her knees, her head in her hands, crying. Faust came out and saw her daughter crying and ran over to her and asked, "Topaz, what's wrong? D-Did Spike hurt you!?"

She got up, but stopped when Topaz said, "No! H-He told me the truth about Bahamut... he... he killed himself..."

Faust shook her head, "No... no! He's lying! Bahamut... he can't be dead, he just can't be!"

Topaz sniffled and said, "M-Maybe... Spike seems like he'd say anything to get away from us... but why does he hate us so much? We don't even know him..."

Faust thought for a moment. She said, "Honey, go get some rest. I'll talk to you about this in the morning." She walked towards Celestia's office and knocked on her door. When she said she could come in, she opened the door and asked, "Ms. Celestia, may I have a word with you about Mr. Drake?"

Celestia looked up from her paperwork and said, "Spike? Is something wrong?"

Faust sat down and said, "Spike seems to hate me and my daughter with a burning passion. I don't understand it though, we haven't done anything to provoke him... He claims he saw my son commit suicide, but my son... my sweet Bahamut... he'd never do that... I just know it!"

Celestia sighed, Spike had told her about his relationship with Faust. She was stuck between a rock and a hard place. She didn't want to rat Spike out, but at the same time, she couldn't have Spike being so aggressive towards Faust and Topaz. She told Faust, "Spike sees something in you and Topaz that he doesn't want to talk about. I'm not sure what he sees in you, but it's obvious it's very painful for him to talk about it. I've known him for a while, he's a good child, but he has abandonment issues. While I understand he doesn't feel comfortable around the two of you, I can't let him treat you like this. I'll have a talk with him. Whatever the issues between your family and Spike may be, I hope that one day the three of you can work past it."

Faust smiled and said, "Thank you Ms. Celestia. I'll be on my way now." she walked out and thought to herself, "She's hiding something... I'm sure there's more to this than she's letting on... Spike knows Bahamut, that much I know is true... but suicide? No, Bahamut would never take the easy way out of his problems. Spike doesn't seem like the type of person to make up such a horrific lie though... I have to find out what this is all about! Bahamut... if you really are up there, looking down on me... I'm sorry, but please tell me how to make amends with Spike. Tell me what I've done to make him so angry, and what I can do to make it right. It's funny, he reminds me of you in so many ways. Wait... no, that's not possible... is it?"
