Chapters Chapter 1: Jealousy and Hatred
Young Tirek was standing at the balcony outside of his bedroom chamber. He had been brooding for a while now until his mother, Queen Haydon, came for a visit in the afternoon. Tirek, feeling the presence of a gargoyle behind him, groaned in frustration for he thought that it was his younger brother, Scorpan, the one who would always follow Young Tirek around to make sure he was safe outside the castle.
"Go away!" said Tirek with a serious expression on his face.
"Tirek, it's me. Your mother." Queen Haydon said to her son.
Tirek turned around to see that the gargoyle behind him was actually his mother.
"Mom?" he said. "What are you...?" he tried asking before his mother suddenly spoke to him.
"We need to talk." said Queen Haydon as she walked forward to speak with her firstborn son.
"About what?" Tirek asked.
"About what happened last night...and about how your actions have not only affected the people of this kingdom all around you, but your family as well." Haydon replied.
"I didn't cause that incident at Sendak's den last night, I swear!" Tirek lied.
Although the young prince swore that he didn't cause the explosion, Queen Haydon knew that her firstborn son was only lying because he did not want to face the dire consequences of his actions.
"Tirek, I understand that you want to learn how to control your magical abilities, but you have allowed this hermit to be a bad influence to you and your gift." Queen Haydon said to Tirek.
"Well, what was I supposed to do, mother? Sit around and never have someone to teach me how to use my magic?!? Father never cared about me." Tirek said angrily.
"That's not true, my son. Your father loves you and I love you." Queen Haydon replied.
"Then why?! Why should a father turn his back on his own son because of him being born with uncontrollable magic?" Tirek asked. "He was right about one thing: I am a power-hungry centaur."
"Son, look at me." the queen said to her son. "There is still a chance for you to redeem yourself. By using your powers for good instead of evil. Because we don't have the right to steal the magic from others, especially from the ponies of Equestria." Queen Haydon reassured. "You need to let go of your anger and your lust for power because that will affect your future." she said.
"What future?" Tirek asked. "I know what I can do with this power of mine." he said.
"Tirek, let me tell you a story." Queen Haydon suggested.
"I'm not a little foal anymore, mom." Tirek complained.
"Ah, but you would always ask me for a good story." Queen Haydon replied.
Tirek sighed and then he sat down right next to his mother. "Okay, mom." he said.
"Long ago," Queen Haydon began. "There was a great war between all different kinds of creatures. Creatures that were prey and predator, big and small, young and old, weak and strong. They were creatures that ruled the sky, the land and the seas; The war lasted for many years until the two deities, known as the Alicorn King and Queen, swooped down from the heavens to offer peace and freedom in order to stop the fighting. The creatures who accepted peace from the royal equine deities were blessed with magic. But the creatures who rejected their offer of peace were never blessed with magic. Thus, the magical creatures moved on with their lives while the non-magical creatures decided to depart fromm their former brethren forever. According to the laws of the Creator, magic can be a wonderful gift if one's heart is pure, but it can also be a dangerous curse if one's heart is corrupted. Such is the fate of all beings. The End." Queen Haydon finished the story.
"Is that it?" Tirek asked.
"Yes, son. That's the end of the story." Queen Haydon replied.
"Mom? Why did you come to see me?" Tirek asked his mother.
"Because, my son...your magic is getting stronger and you must learn to control it." said the gargoyle queen.
"I can't control my magic, mother! What if it gets worse every day?!" Tirek protested.
"Then you will need the right magic teacher to help you." Queen Haydon replied.
"I don't need anyone's help!" Tirek argued.
"Don't give me that attitude, son!" Queen Haydon lectured. "The only reason why I came here to have a word with you, is because a mother would do anything to help her children and you're changing into something you're not. You've already had arguments with your father, so don't you dare talk back to your own mother!"
From those words, Tirek knew that he couldn't argue with his mother the same way that he'd argued with his father. Queen Haydon was only trying to reason with Tirek in order to help him see the error of his ways and behave like a good prince for once to his royal family. Tirek did loved his mother because of how much she truly loved and cared for him despite being born with a magical curse. Tirek's heart sank and he began to whimper and cry.
"I'm so sorry, mother." said Tirek. "I just...I just don't know why I was born with magic this way! You and father didn't know what to do to help me and that's why...I do suspicious things outside the castle. I--I don't know what I am anymore...Forgive me!" Tirek begged as he sobbed at his mother's feet.
Queen Haydon, feeling sorry for her son, decides to show some love, compassion and mercy as she knelt down to the floor to comfort Tirek with a motherly warm hug. She wrapped her gargoyle wings around the young centaur as she patted him in the back. Tirek was bursting out into tears for he didn't mean to argue with his own biological mother. Queen Haydon had to use soft and gentle words to comfort him.
"Shhhh. It's alright, son. It's alright. I'm right here." Queen Haydon whispered.
The queen comforted her firstborn son until he cried no longer as he took a deep breath. They embraced each other on the floor with heartwarming love and comfort until it was nighttime. Queen Haydon tucked Tirek into bed and kissed him on the forehead before she was ready to leave the bedroom chamber. But before Tirek would close his eyes, he asked his mother a question.
"Mom?" Tirek asked.
"Yes, dear?" said the queen.
"I can't sleep." Tirek said.
"Why not? Aren't you tired at all?" Queen Haydon asked.
"No, I...I still feel ashamed after what just happened with Sendak." Tirek replied.
"Tirek." Queen Haydon said softly. "We all make bad choices. When your father gets back from Equestria, I'll tell him that you'll change your ways in time. Okay? I love you." she said.
"I love you, too." Tirek whispered. "But I still can't go to sleep." he said.
"Would a mother's lullaby help?" Queen Haydon asked.
Tirek slowly smiled at his mother and nodded to reply 'yes' before the gargoyle began to sing her lullaby in a sweet and beautiful melody. Tirek listened to his mother singing until he felt very relaxed.
That night, Tirek fell into a deep sleep. The castle guards made sure that the prince wouldn't sneak outside to the Neather Lands again. Then suddenly, a long and dark shadow crept its way to the balcony until it surrounded Tirek like a scavenger circling its prey. Tirek tossed and turned in his blankets and then he had a dream. It was daytime and Tirek was still inside the castle when he heard a celebration coming from the throne room. Tirek investigated to find out what was going on and to his surprise, Scorpan was there and the people were praising him. Scorpan was wearing a royal robe and a crown and he held a royal scepter. The people, including King Vorak and Queen Haydon were praising Scorpan as if he were a god. Tirek didn't know what was going on, but he could recognize the scene as the fear that he never knew he had: his younger brother becoming the new king.
The people chanted, "Hail, King Scorpan! Long live the King!"
"What's going on here?! Stop! Stop it!" he yelled. "This cannot be happening! My brother doesn't deserve the throne! I'm the one who deserves power and respect!" Tirek said as he covered his ears.
Tirek ran away from the scene to an empty room where he can be alone in the dark. Then, he started to get angry. The teenage centaur had always hated his younger brother. From the day Scorpan was born, King Vorak and Queen Haydon had paid a lot more attention to him than Tirek. In fact, Scorpan was always the favorite son in the royal family because of how younger, wise, kind and considerate he is. Tirek on the other hand or hoof was always rebellious, impatient, hot-headed and power-hungry. He could never be fit to rule; Tirek then saw a painting of his parents together with Scorpan only, but not with their older son. Enraged, Tirek's eyes reflected with fire before he threw a tantrum just as he immediately tore the painting into a million pieces. When Tirek fell into an emotional meltdown, the room suddenly became filled with fire, darkness and smoke. Then, Tirek heard a deep, booming voice that came out of nowhere.
"Poor little centaur. I can't even imagine how it must've felt like to be replaced because of someone having a lot more fame and attention than you." The voice said.
"Who said that?!!" Tirek said, dramatically standing up.
"I am the voice of your worst nightmares. The answer to your problems. The key to your heart's desire." The voice replied.
"What do you want from me!?!" Tirek demanded.
"Nothing." The voice echoed. "I have simply come here to let you see the future of what might happen when your father returns from his little...trip to Equestria."
"Then tell me, whoever you are!" said Tirek. "What am I to do? How will I prevent my own brother from being chosen over me? How will I be able to take over my father's kingdom and fulfill my destiny?" he asked while looking around.
"Patience, boy!" said the voice. "In time, you will take action and when that happens...you will be blessed with a new mentor."
"I don't understand." Tirek said, feeling confused.
"Don't worry." the voice chuckled evilly. "You will." the voice echoed until there was silence.
"Wait! Come back! Don't leave me!" Tirek cried.
But it was too late. The voice had already ended. It was dark and Tirek couldn't know what to do or where to go. Suddenly, he felt something touch him right beneath his hooves. It felt like spiders and snakes crawling up to his hooves. Tirek looked down before he panic to find shadows clinging onto him. The dark purple smoke grabbed Tirek by his hooves and then it dragged him down into a dark pit. The young centaur was frightened for he felt like he was sinking in dark quicksand. Tirek called out desperately for help as the shadows dragged him down and down to the pit of darkness. Suddenly, there was a heavenly light that came out of nowhere and a hoof reached out for Tirek's hand. Tirek tried to look up, but it was too dark and too bright for him to see the face of his savior. The only thing he could see was the hoof. Suddenly, Tirek woke up from his nightmare and panted for air with sweat on his head. It wasn't long before Queen Haydon opened the door to check on her older son.
"Tirek, what's wrong?" the female gargoyle asked with concern. "Did you had a bad dream?" she asked.
"No, mother. It was only a nightmare." Tirek replied.
"Oh, my son. That sounds awful. What was it about?" Queen Haydon said, comforting her older son.
"I don't know. I was...lost and overwhelmed by darkness...then there was light and...a hoof reached out for me." Tirek explained.
"What kind of hoof?" Queen Haydon asked.
"I don't know. But this dream felt so real." said Tirek.
"Well, it's all over now." Queen Haydon replied. "Just calm your spirit down until you go back to sleep." she suggested.
"Mother?" Tirek said to the female gargoyle.
"Yes, dear?" Queen Haydon said back.
"When father returns from Equestria...what will become of me and my brother?" Tirek asked.
"I do not know, Tirek. Why do you ask?" said Queen Haydon.
"I'm just...a little worried...no, afraid of something." Tirek said, trying to be honest.
"What are you afraid of?" Queen Haydon asked.
"I'm afraid of being lost and alone forever...because nobody wants to see me again." Tirek replied.
"Ohh, Tirek. That's not true. I love you no matter what." Queen Haydon said as she hugged her son closely to her.
"I love you, too, mom." Tirek replied. "I just hope that father won't choose my brother over me. " he thought.
The next day, Tirek was still not allowed to leave his room for being a disloyal prince by the order of King Vorak. Despite that, his kindhearted mother would always check on him and even offer him food and water. Tirek didn't feel like a prisoner, but he didn't like being overshadowed by those who would fear him and despise him. He wanted to be free; A few days later, King Vorak and his knights made a promise with Princess Celestia that her subjects won't be abducted again before they finally made it back from Equestria. Tirek was allowed to be outside of his room for now, but he had to prove it to his father that he learned his lesson. King Vorak ordered his Royal Guard to keep an eye on Tirek just to make sure that he doesn't do anything suspicious again. As for Tirek, he couldn't help but feel like his worst dream would later become a reality. His brother, Scorpan, was getting a lot of attention from everyone and he became famous for his kindness, mercy and leadership. Scorpan made so many friends and gained a lot of attention that Tirek soon became jealous and the more jealous he got, the more he began to hate his own sibling. It was even worse when King Vorak and Queen Haydon gave Scorpan more love, approval and attention. Tirek soon became lonely and friendless until he got use to it. He didn't even care about having company anyway, but he did wanted to be loved and worshiped. Then he realized that the people around the kingdom, including his parents, were voting Scorpan to be the rightful heir to the throne. But why? Tirek was the oldest and the strongest while Scorpan was the youngest and the smartest one. Somehow, Tirek knew that Scorpan was the favorite son for he wasn't born with magical abilities. One day, Tirek began to glare at his brother with hatred when he wasn't looking until he and Scorpan were summoned to the throne room. King Vorak had an announcement to make.
"My people! You have all been gathered here to hear this important announcement." said King Vorak. "I have been king for many years and my reign has been excellent. But according to the laws of royalty, the time has come for me to choose only one prince to be my successor." he said before continuing his speech. "Once I have chosen one of my sons to be the rightful heir to the throne, I shall continue to rule until I am ready to step down for my successor's coronation day."
The people agreed and as King Vorak continues to speak, Scorpan tries to pay more attention when he noticed the strange look on Tirek's face.
"Brother? Are you okay?" Scorpan asked his brother.
"I'm fine, Scorpan. There's no need to worry about me." said Tirek.
"Are you sure? You seemed to be in a very bad mood." Scorpan replied.
"Mind your own business." Tirek grumbled.
"Shhh!" Queen Haydon lectured with a hush.
In the midst of the crowd, a dark cloaked figure with red eyes was looking straight at the two princes who had just stopped talking to wait for their father to choose which of them will become the future king. The dark figure could sense Tirek's lust for power, but he could also feel his jealousy and hatred for Scorpan. And then (drum roll please) King Vorak gets ready to choose which of his sons will be his inheritor to the throne.
"From now on, the crown of high authority shall be passed onto..." King Vorak paused. "Scorpan." he decreed.
"WHAT?!!?" Tirek spoke with a shocked expression on his face.
"M-Me?" Scorpan asked. "Father, I...I don't know what to say!" he said.
"Scorpan, my youngest son. Do you accept the responsibility?" King Vorak offered.
Tirek's face darkened with more jealousy and hatred and before Scorpan could answer, the young centaur rudely interrupted in a flash and he confronted his own father.
"No! Scorpan is not fit to rule and he will never be!" he said.
"Tirek, what are you--?" Scorpan tried to ask.
"What is the meaning of this insolence?!" King Vorak demanded.
"Scorpan maybe "wise" and "kind", but I'm a lot older and stronger than he is!" Tirek boasted with pride.
"No, Tirek. Your brother is going to answer me and you will not interfere!" King Vorak lectured his older son. "If you won't behave like a true prince, my son, then I suggest you go back to your chambers immediately!" he ordered.
"I'm done taking orders from you, father!" Tirek snapped.
The crowd gasped in disbelief and King Vorak was more than irritated. He was furious that his own son confronted him with such disrespect and a fit of rebellion all because he didn't want Scorpan to be king. He stood up from his own throne to look down at Tirek. Queen Haydon quickly tried to calm her husband down, but King Vorak warned his wife to keep her distance and let him deal with the conflict.
"Prince Tirek!" King Vorak said in a powerful voice. "You are the one who is not fit to rule as my successor! Scorpan maybe younger than you, but he's more wiser than you think! Because of your disloyalty and your thirst for power...you are no longer welcome inside this castle!" he remarked.
"You can't do this to me!" said Tirek.
"I'm afraid I can, son." King Vorak replied. "The guards will escort you outside and they shall keep an eye on you until you learned your lesson once this very important event with your brother is over. Dismissed!"
"This is the biggest mistake you've ever made as king!" Tirek grumbled. "You never even cared for me from the moment I was born."
"ENOUGH!" King Vorak shouted. "Take him outside the castle!" he ordered.
"Tirek, why are you acting like this?" Scorpan said, trying to reach out to help his brother.
"Leave me alone, Scorpan!" Tirek yelled at his brother.
"No, brother. I won't leave your side." Scorpan replied. "Something's wrong with you and you need help!" he said.
"I don't care!" Tirek replied as his face darkened with fear, anger and sadness. "You were always the favorite one after all!" he grumbled.
"But why? Why must you hate me after all we've been through?!" Scorpan asked.
"Get out of my sight, Scorpan." Tirek said to his brother.
"Please, Tirek! I want to understand what's wrong with you so that I can help you."
"I said...GET OUT OF MY SIGHT!!!" Tirek shouted.
From the moment Tirek let out an enraged roar in front of everybody, dark energy quickly began to flow through his veins before a flame-colored orb suddenly appeared from the top of the young centaur's head and the magic inside of Tirek began to affect the gargoyle soldiers (including his brother), all around him. Tirek's eyes glowed with an amber colored aura as his magic stroke the guards like lightning as well as draining them of their strength, energy and intelligence. Scorpan was also struck down by Tirek's powerful magic and the effects were painful. Like a Changeling consuming love and emotions from its victims for the first time, Tirek didn't know what he had done when he had unleashed his powers, but he never thought that absorbing the magic from others would feel like tasting sour lemon juice. King Vorak and Queen Haydon couldn't believe their eyes and gasped and all the people that came to witness who'll be the next king were horrified. Scorpan and the gargoyles fell into unconsciousness due to be drained by Tirek's painful magic. Tirek, knowing that he now has the chance to flee from the castle, immediately uses the magical dust from his bag necklace to create large amounts of smoke so that he can 'poof' his way out of the scene. Tirek ran outside the castle before he was ready to gallop across the desert and beyond the Nether Lands to get away as far as he can from home. As for Scorpan, he wasn't drained completely and his mother had to take care of him and the others while his father and his knights set out to find Tirek.
Tirek continued to gallop across the wilderness as fast as he can in the Nether Lands until he was far away from home and as he ran with all the energy that he magically took from the gargoyles that surrounded him, he panted with every breath he took and some sweat dripped down from his forehead like drops of rain and his heart was racing as well. Meanwhile, King Vorak and his knights began to follow the hoofprints that were left behind by Tirek. As time went by, the sky began to change color until after sunset, it was nighttime and it was difficult to see anymore hoofprints. Luckily, one of King Vorak's knights had the ability to see in the dark because they were gargoyles. Unfortunately, they searched and searched across the land until they eventually lost sight of Tirek's hoofprints. That night, Tirek was slowly beginning to feel very exhausted, but he didn't wanna stop running away.
"Must...keep...running..." Tirek said, panting. "Don't...fall..."
Suddenly, Tirek tripped over a rock before he fell to the ground. Tirek's front leg was hurt, but thankfully it didn't bleed at the very least. When Tirek got himself up, he couldn't tell where he was and instead of running, he was limping. Tirek began to search for food, water, medicine and shelter, but he couldn't find anything for he was out in the middle of nowhere. But where was Tirek? Did he get lost in the Nether Lands or did he went too far away from home? Tirek tried not to be afraid, but he couldn't help but feel thirsty and exhausted and then...Tirek had no other choice but to fall asleep. Sleeping in the outside world without any warm shelter or safety was unlike anything that Tirek has ever felt before. For the first time in his life, Tirek felt a lot worse than lonely...he was lost; The next day, Tirek was still fast asleep at the desert and it wasn't long until a flock of vultures began to circle around him. When they flew down to Tirek, they couldn't tell if he was dead or not. When the centaur opened his eyes, he screamed in terror.
"Aaah! Get away! Get away from me!!" Tirek said, shooing the birds away.
Once the scavengers flew away from him, Tirek got up before he decided to continue his search for food and shelter. His front leg still felt sore, but Tirek had the strength to keep moving on. Meanwhile, back at the royal castle, Scorpan slowly opened his eyes and found himself lying in his bed. The King and Queen were so glad to see that he was okay.
"Oh, Scorpan, my baby!" Queen Haydon cried. "We're so glad you're awake."
"Mother? Father? What happened? Where's Tirek?" Scorpan asked.
"Scorpan...your brother...he did something to you and then he vanished." King Vorak explained, feeling very worried and guilty.
"I remembered!" said Scorpan. "Where did my brother ran off to?!" he asked.
"Calm down, Scorpan." Queen Haydon said to her son. "The doctor says that you've been drained of your energy. You need to rest until you're fully recovered."
"Okay, mother." Scorpan replied.
"We tried searching for your brother outside the castle, but..." King Vorak paused.
"But what, father?" Scorpan asked.
"I'm afraid he got himself lost in the Nether Lands." King Vorak answered.
Scorpan couldn't believe his ears before he began to cry. "Ohh, no!" he sobbed.
"I am deeply sorry, Scorpan." said King Vorak. "This is all my fault."
"Vorak, you can't blame yourself for this!" Queen Haydon said to her husband.
"If I only knew how to help Tirek with his gift, maybe he would've known better!" King Vorak cried.
"Vorak, darling. We tried everything we could to support our firstborn son." Queen Haydon replied. "But we were never ready to tell him the truth about his magic."
"The truth?" Scorpan asked. His parents turned to him.
King Vorak sighed. "Scorpan, your mother and I knew that this day would come. The day...that we'd told you about your brother and his magic." he said.
Back at the desert, Tirek was still feeling uncomfortable in his travels. The scorching heat from the sun made Tirek's skin feel warm and itchy, the dust of the earth made his hooves look dirty and it wasn't long until young Tirek went into a canyon where he eventually found a pond right next to a palm tree. Tirek, feeling glad and relieved, went to get a drink. At first glance, he thought that it was just a mirage, but when the lonely centaur took a dip in the puddle, turns out it wasn't an illusion. Tirek drank the water from his hands and then he gave himself a bath. The water was clean, but not too cold and it was enough to give Tirek a little sense of hope that he will survive.
"Water!" Tirek said. "I'm so glad I found you." he said to the puddle. "Wait a minute. Who am I talking to? I'm all alone! " he thought.
"Tirek." a voice echoed through the canyons.
"That voice!" Tirek said, feeling startled.
"Tirek...how are you enjoying the desert spring pool?" the same voice asked.
"It's...refreshing." Tirek replied. "But who are you? Where are you?" he asked.
"I am your guide and I am everywhere." the voice answered.
"Are you the one that spoke to me in my nightmare?" Tirek asked.
"Yes, Tirek. It is I." the voice replied.
"I'm going crazy! You can't be real." said Tirek.
"Oh, but I am real. I showed you the future, did I not? You knew that your brother would have more love and respect than you realized." the voice remarked.
"Look, I don't want to think about it anymore." said Tirek. "Just back off!"
"I know the kind of pain that you feel, Tirek. I once felt that myself."
"Leave me alone! You don't know a thing about me!" Tirek yelled.
"I do know everything about you!" the voice echoed. "I was there from the moment you were born and I know what it feels like to be feared and hated...to be mistreated and overshadowed. I can show you the reason why you were born with such power if you will just listen to me. Follow my voice and you will find sanctuary with me."
"What if I say 'no'?" Tirek asked.
"Then you will be lost in the wilderness forever." the voice replied.
Tirek thought for a moment and then he made a decision. "Wait!" he said.
"Yesss?" said the voice.
"If I follow your voice, will I go to where we can meet face-to-face?" Tirek asked.
"Precisely." the voice replied. "Follow me."
Young Tirek left the desert spring pool behind and followed the voice through the canyons. The voice gave Tirek directions on which way to go as well as warning him about the dangers he might face on his journey. Tirek had no idea where the voice was luring him to, but he wanted to find out who is in person. One night, Tirek was almost out of the canyons and the voice didn't spoke to him again until...
"Stop!" said the voice.
"What?!" Tirek said, irritated. "You asked me to follow you and now you want me to--"
"Be quiet! There's a net right in front of you." the voice warned. "I can sense a group of slave drivers nearby. I suggest that you should run quickly before they see you and capture you."
"Right. But where should I go?" Tirek asked, searching for a way out.
"Don't go that way!" the voice said, but it was too late.
Tirek tripped and fell into a dark pit. The slave drivers heard a loud thud coming from one of their traps and when Tirek got himself up, he realized that he just fell into a pit that was covered by a sandy trap door. Tirek tried to climb back up, but it was no use; The young centaur ran around in circles, searching for a way out and then someone threw a rope down for Tirek to climb up. Tirek assumed that it was the voice coming out of the shadows to rescue him, but when he used the rope to climb out of the pit, turns out that it wasn't the rescuer he was expecting. A group of slave drivers were surprised to see that they had caught a teenage centaur.
"Well, well...what have we here?" said the first slave driver.
"It looks like we've got ourselves a young centaur." said the second slave driver.
"Who are you?" Tirek said, feeling afraid.
"Pull him up!" said one of the slave drivers.
"Hey! Let go of me!" Tirek said as the thugs grabbed him.
The third slave driver analyzed Tirek while grabbing his chin. "Hmmm...He's too skinny, but I think that he's healthy enough." he said.
"Skinny?!" Tirek said, offended.
"Yeah! This is exactly what we need: a creature with hooves and limbs!" the second slave driver said, laughing with delight.
"Tie him up!" the first thug ordered. "He'll be a perfect slave for us." he said.
"What!?! NO! Get your hands off me!" Tirek said, struggling to break free.
The slave drivers threw ropes around Tirek before wrapping them around his wrists, his waist and even his neck. Tirek couldn't help but feel pain and fear as the slave drivers wrapped the ropes tightly around his body. He tried struggling like an angry bull, but his movement only made things worse. Being tied up and captured by a group of kidnappers felt like real torture and abuse. When Tirek unleashed his magic again, it wasn't as powerful as last time. Tirek was all out of gargoyle energy and not only did his magic surprised the slave drivers, but it also made them feel a lot more interested in capturing him. Tirek called for help as the thugs were going to take him down with everything they've got. Suddenly, a giant scorpion came right out of its tunnel and spotted its meal. When the slave drivers saw the monster coming towards them, they immediately grabbed their torches and spears to fend off the giant predator. However, spears couldn't cut through the scorpion's armored skin and the flames couldn't burn through it either. Tirek used his magic to remove the ropes before he galloped though the canyon while the slave drivers struggled to fight against their opponent. However, the giant scorpion moved the kidnappers out of the way before it spotted its next target: a young centaur running for his life. Tirek ran as fast as he could before he stopped at a dead end. The giant scorpion found the young centaur before it was ready to corner its prey. Tirek desperately tried to shoot magic at the predator, but it was no use. Tirek backed away as the creature went closer and closer for the kill.
"Get away from me!" Tirek shouted. "HELP! Somebody! I'm trapped!" he called.
But there was no one here to help Tirek in the canyon(except maybe a trio of slave drivers that the giant scorpion might've killed off). Tirek realized that he shouldn't of run away from home and now he feels like he's going to meet his end. Could this be the end of our runaway prince? The giant scorpion began to attack Tirek by using its poisonous tail to sting him right at his front leg. The burning pain caused the leg to bleed and the venom was so frightening that Tirek let out a painful cry.
"AAAAAAAaaaagh!!!"
Tirek quickly held onto his wound very tightly to try to prevent the infection or the bleeding from killing him. Then the giant scorpion was ready to kill him with its poisonous stinger and its razor sharp pinchers. Tirek was horrified and then he closed his eyes very tightly. But just before the giant scorpion could slaughter the young centaur, a crimson bolt of lightning came down from the top of the canyon before it electrocuted the big desert insect. Not only did the red lightning that came out of nowhere and electrocuted it, but it also caused it to wither and die. Tirek opened his eyes and was surprised to see the giant scorpion cooked in front of him. He did hear lightning, but where did it come from? A dark cloaked figure with red eyes was at the top of the canyon and he was the one who shot the red lightning bolt to save Tirek's life. When lightning flashed behind the hooded creature, Tirek turned and then he saw his mysterious savior.
"What in the world?!" he said. "Who are you?" Tirek asked.
The hooded figure didn't answer. As the lightning flashes in the background again, the mysterious creature vanished. Yet, Tirek wanted to know who saved him.
"Hey, wait!" he said, struggling to get up. "Don't leave without me."
When Tirek got up, he began to pursue the dark hooded figure as he limped his way out of the canyon and into the wilderness. It was then that the venom in Tirek's wound began to slow the body down. Tirek became dizzy, sick and hurt until he stopped trying to trot after the mysterious creature that shot down the scorpion. Everything became dark and blurry and then Tirek fell into unconsciousness. As the wind and sand blew over the young centaur's body, the hooded figure with red eyes came to help. He used his magic to remove the venom from Tirek's wound and then he levitated the unconscious centaur off the earth. The hooded figure then took Tirek somewhere to mend his wounded leg. Three days later, Tirek slowly gained consciousness while at the same time, he felt like waking up from a nightmare.
"Ughnn...Father! I'm so sorry of what I said earlier." Tirek spoke while gaining consciousness. "I know that I ran away...but I'll accept whatever punishment you think is necessary."
"You must've blacked out harder than I thought." a voice said.
Tirek opened his eyes before seeing the cloaked figure in person. "AAah! Wha--who are you? What happened!? Where am I?!" he said before feeling the pain from his wounded leg.
"Easy! Easy, calm down. You've been out cold for over three days." the dark creature said.
"Three days? Wait...it's you! You're the voice that spoke to me." said Tirek.
"Yes, it is I." the hooded figure replied before revealing himself as an elderly ram.
"You're...a ram." Tirek said. The cloaked figure smiled at him.
"Yes, but not just any ram. I am a Tambelonian ram...or at least I was." the elder replied.
"Tambelonian? W-What is your name?" Tirek asked.
"My name is Grogar." the old ram introduced. "I am the voice that spoke to you and I'm also the one who saved you from certain death." he said.
"You mean that...you're the one who electrocuted that giant scorpion?" Tirek asked.
"Yes, my boy." Grogar replied before he explained. "I used my magic to save you and when you passed out, I used my magic to remove the venom before it could reach and destroy your life source. I brought you back to my lair before I did everything I could to mend your leg and nurse you back to health. Now that you're awake, my young lad, I would like you to thank me for saving your life." he said.
"Oh...Well, thank you for mending my leg." Tirek said politely.
"You're welcome, Tirek." Grogar replied.
"How do you know my name?" Tirek asked.
"Didn't you remember what I told you back when you were at the canyon? I was there with your parents since the day you were born and I know everything about you." Grogar said.
"How? When?" Tirek asked as he got up from his bed.
"We'll talk about that later. But first, would you like something to eat?" Grogar offered.
Tirek blushed when he heard his stomach growl. "Umm...yes." he said.
"Then come with me. Be careful when you get out of bed, though. Your leg still needs some time to heal." Grogar said before heading to the dining room.
Tirek carefully got himself out of bed and then found out that his wounds were dressed while he was unconscious. He limped his way out of the bedroom and followed Grogar to the dining room. The cave was dark, yet wonderful. There were candles on most walls, there were some rare artifacts to find, there were some potions and spell scrolls and some curtains made of fabric. The lair was dark, mysterious and spooky as if the place was only meant for dark worship. Tirek made it to the dining room before Grogar invited him to sit down at the round table.
"Come, Tirek. Sit down and be my guest." Grogar said formally.
Tirek sat down before he slowly smiled at his host. "So...what's for dinner?" Tirek asked.
"That's a good question. Here, have this. It'll get your strength back." Grogar said as he handed a nice bowl of soup.
Tirek took a sip of the soup and it tasted like chicken mixed with vegetables. "Mmmmm." Tired savored.
"How are you enjoying your favorite kind of soup?" Grogar asked.
"I'm really enjoying it! It tastes good." Tirek said, his mouth full of juicy meat and herbs.
"Splendid." Grogar approved. "Would you like a drink, my lad?" he asked as he offered a bottle of wine.
Tirek swallowed his food before he gasped. "How'd you know about my favorite diet?" he asked.
"I studied your tastes long enough to know which food or drink you like." Grogar explained, filling a goblet with the wine.
"Right." Tirek said shyly. "What's your name again?" he asked.
"I am Grogar. But you can call me 'sir' or 'my lord' or 'master'. Whichever you prefer it." the old ram replied.
Tirek was feeling confused, strange and uncomfortable, while at the same time...he felt lucky to be saved by someone. However, Tirek wanted to know why an old ram would claim to have magical powers or claim to have known our runaway prince since birth. Tirek couldn't help but feel puzzled and all he could think was: "Who is this ram? Why does he seemed to have such strange magic abilities? How come he knows everything about me? Could he be the answer to why I was born with a curse?" When Tirek finished his meal and drink, he was going to ask Grogar a few questions to hopefully get the answers he needed, when suddenly, he heard three sirens singing.
"What's that?" Tirek asked.
"Ahh, listen to them. The Three Sirens. What music they make." Grogar said.
"Music? But where's it coming from?" Tirek asked.
When the singing grew louder, a trio of beautiful, but dangerous sirens came out of the shadows to greet their lord and master who cannot be hypnotized. Their names were Adagio Dazzle, Sonata Dusk and Aria Blaze. Grogar was very happy to see his three students return with more 'disharmony fuel' in their singing voices. Tirek have read about sea creatures before and how sirens can use their singing voices to influence others to their will. Grogar greeted the devious creatures that were born from the sea before Adagio and her sisters noticed a male teenage centaur at the dining room. Adagio Dazzle and Aria Blaze were curious about why Grogar would bring Tirek to their hideout and Sonata Dusk couldn't help but swoon and find the teenage centaur attractive with some royal boyfriend-material. Grogar turned and noticed a funny look on Tirek's face as if he was thinking: "Why are these girls staring at me?"
"Oh, don't be so shy, Tirek." said Grogar. "Say 'hello' to my three talented singers."
"Um...hello." Tirek said nervously.
"Why, hello there." Adagio Dazzle greeted. "My name is Adagio Dazzle. These are my sisters: Aria Blaze and Sonata Dusk." she introduced.
"Welcome to our home...Prince Tirek, we presume?" Aria Blaze said with a brooding voice.
"You're a prince? Ooh! He's so handsome!" Sonata Dusk squealed. "Can we keep him?" she asked. Tirek blushed, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"Now, now, girls." said Grogar. "Let's try to be more respectful towards our guest. He just gained consciousness and he needs a little bit of exposition from me. Do any of you girls understand?" Grogar said to the sirens.
"Yes, father." the three sirens answered.
"Father? " Tirek thought, feeling so confused.
"Tell me, my little sirens, how was your trip?" Grogar asked. "Did you harvest enough negative energy from the outside world to fuel your singing voices?"
"Yes, father. It was easy." Adagio answered.
"Good! Now that you're mission is complete...leave us." Grogar ordered.
Adagio Dazzle and her sisters immediately left their master to have some alone time with Tirek before they returned to their pool. The sinister Grogar went to sit right next to Tirek at the round table when he noticed a bag necklace around the centaur's neck.
"What is that?" Grogar asked as he pointed his hoof at Tirek's satchel.
"Oh, this? This was a gift given to me by the hermit, Sendak." Tirek replied.
"Sendak the Elder? He gave it to you?" Grogar said when he recognized the name.
"Yes, sir. Did you know him?" Tirek asked.
"Know him?" Grogar paused before he remembered. "Oh, yes. I knew him. He was the old centaur that came to the City of Tambelon before he asked me at the court room for some helpful advice." he said.
"And why would he?" Tirek asked.
"Because he was growing old and he wanted to live forever." Grogar replied. "He asked me if he could find a way to gain strength and immortality. So, I brought him to my secret office where I told him...that he can become younger and invincible by stripping ponies and creatures of their magic. He asked me where to start and that's when I influenced him to abduct a unicorn from Equestria so that he can fulfill his heart's desire." he explained.
"And did you taught him how to consume magic?" Tirek asked.
"Yes, I did." Grogar replied. "And I can teach you the ways of magic and how to absorb it. But first, hand over your former mentor's gift." he said.
"Why?" Tirek said defensively as he held onto his precious gift. "Why must I give it away...to you?" he asked.
"Because I know how you were born with magic abilities." Grogar replied. "If you hand over your most precious gift, then the truth will set you free. Trust me, I am your only friend, now." he said in a tempting tone.
Grogar's red eyes glowed as he grinned evilly at such a difficult choice. The satchel was the only thing Tirek would use in order to create illusions and to remember his former master, the one he abandoned. Tirek felt sad and guilty for not listening to Sendak when he was trying to teach him about absorbing unicorn magic. But then, Tirek realized that he had no other choice but to give away his satchel so that he can finally learn the truth. The truth that his parents kept from him for so long. Tirek took a gulp and took a breath before he willingly gave his bag necklace away for Grogar to look at. Then the old ram added the satchel to his collection of magical items where it will be safe.
"That's a good boy." said Grogar as he smiled evilly at Tirek. "Now, sit down right next to me by the fire and brace yourself; This truth will be a bit...shocking." he warned.
"I am ready." Tirek sighed before he sat down right next to his savior by the fire.
"A long time ago, your parents were happy together for they knew that they would be together as king and queen. Until one day, they were ready to start a family. Your mother was with child and you were the first to grow inside her. Your father was worried sick, for he knew that a female gargoyle like your mother would die giving birth to a half-blood centaur; So, he sent for me to prevent your mother's death from ever happening." Grogar explained.
"And then what happened after my father sent for you?" Tirek asked.
"He asked me for a cure; So, I went upstairs where I made a potion that can help your mother survive of childbirth. But not only that, I also added a secret ingredient that can bless the unborn child with magic...powerful magic." Grogar said before he continued. "Your father heard that I was known for helping others know how to cheat death itself and that's why he hired me to help him save the ones he loved. So, I gave your mother the medicine and then she allowed me to feel her womb. Your father thought that I was being perverted and rude towards his wife, but I was just trying to be a good doctor. Your mother was feeling better as time went by until the day came when your mother was ready to give birth to you. Your father was frightened, but I told him to remain calm until we heard crying. Your father and I rushed to the delivery room and there, you were born; It was the most beautiful thing we have ever seen."
"So, you were really there from the moment I was born?" Tirek asked.
"Indeed I was." Grogar replied. "The potion that I made was able to save your mother and it gave you powers beyond imagining. When you were born, your parents were overjoyed to see you for the first time. Unfortunately, when you unleashed your magic, there was chaos around the chamber. Your father asked me what was wrong with you and when I told him that I added deep magic to the potion, he accused me of laying a curse on you. I told him that I was just trying to bless you, but your father was so furious with me that he banished me. That day, your mother and father struggled to raise you without my help. I wanted to be your godfather; But I was fired for the crimes I've committed. Your father told me to never come back, but I couldn't feel the need to forget about you. You and your mother were the subjects to one of my greatest experiments. Every year, I would ask the crystal ball to give me a chance to watch you grow. So you see, Tirek...I made you. If it weren't for me, then your mother would've died along with you and your father would be alone forever." Grogar explained.
Tirek, feeling overwhelmed by the truth, looked at his own hands. "All this time...I was born with this magical curse...because you did everything to help my parents give birth to me!"
"Yes." Grogar replied. "I did not curse you before you were born, Tirek. I blessed you. Your father never wanted me to help you because he was too afraid that you would overthrow him someday and you made a clever decision to learn how to control your magic abilities under the supervision of Sendak" Grogar remarked. "But because of your impatience and your thirst for Equestrian magic, your father has condemned your mentor to work in the mines to rot for his own selfish crimes. You feel lonely, helpless and ashamed of yourself for what you've done. Now, your parents have chosen to replace you with your brother, Scorpan, because of how he wasn't born with magic like you were...and there's nothing you can do." he said.
Tirek's eyes began to water with tears before he sighed. "Yes, it's true. I know what you mean." the young centaur admitted with a sad expression. "Scorpan was always the favorite one."
"You have my sympathy, Tirek." said Grogar. "For I too know what it feels like to be feared, hated and overshadowed by the ones you love. I had a friend once and he was like a brother to me...his name was Starswirl the Bearded. We were partners in magic training, until one day, he betrayed me and exposed me in front of everyone in Tambelon. Then, when Starswirl the Bearded himself informed our mentor, Avalor the Wise, about my "corruption" and my obsession with dark magic and necromancy...he exiled me and I was cast out like a leper ever since. I'm not a monster. I only do the things that are wrong for the greater good."
"It seems we have a lot in common. But what am I to do, now that I know the truth?" Tirek asked.
"Maybe I can help you." Grogar replied.
Chapter 3: The Master and the Apprentice
Tirek turned to look at his savior straight in the eye before Grogar gave him a smile. The three sirens were still swimming inside of their pool and they wondered why their master would bring a half-blood prince to their hideout, yet they knew that Grogar had something in mind: that he could use Tirek and his magic to their advantage in conquering Equestria. Tirek asked the elderly ram.
"How?" he said.
"Join me, Tirek." Grogar replied. "Become my apprentice. Learn to use your magic from which I gave you at birth."
"But how? I can't consume pony magic just yet." said Tirek.
"Ah, perhaps that can be arranged. I can teach you the ways of all magic." Grogar said. "You don't have to grow alone. This can be your new home from now on and I will train you in a way that Sendak the Elder should've done. Join me and I will help you become what you were born to be!" he offered.
Tirek paused and then he answered. "Do you take me for a fool?! You may have brought me in from the scorching heat and the bitter cold from the outside world, but I won't join you unless you show me your power! Unless, maybe it was the lightning that struck the scorpion down and not you."
"Very well!" Grogar grumbled in disappointment. "But if you refuse join me because you want proof that I am capable of wielding such powerful magic, then you won't mind if I teach you a lesson!" Grogar growled as his eyes glowed brightly red before shooting red lightning at Tirek.
Tirek cried in pain and agony when he was shot by Grogar's dark magic. The pain was shocking, terrifying and unimaginable. The three sirens could hear the painful shouting, but Adagio Dazzle and her sisters would not leave their pool unless their master would summon them. The sound they had heard was the sound of Tirek being tortured by red lightning. Grogar continued until Tirek cried out.
"NO!! I accept your offer! I accept!" Tirek shouted.
"How wise of you to say that, Tirek." Grogar said before he stopped torturing the young centaur with his magic.
Tirek knelt down before Grogar and he couldn't believe who he was dealing with. "What are you?" he asked as he huffed and puffed.
"I am the Author of Dark Magic, the Master of Necromancy." Grogar answered. "And you are my glorious creation. Now that I have shown you my power, Tirek, let us try to accept this proposition again, shall we?" he said.
"I will do whatever you ask...my lord." said Tirek. "Just don't hurt me again, please! I-I don't want to be punished again." Tirek said, begging for mercy.
"Ohhh, Tirek. You poor unfortunate soul." Grogar said in a calm, gentle voice. "I never meant to lose my temper on you; I would never hurt you twice and I would never mistreat you the same way as your father mistreated you." he said while holding Tirek's chin up. "So now, I will ask you again: will you join me and become my protégé?" Grogar asked.
"Y-yes...my lord." Tirek replied.
"Excellent!" Grogar said before he chuckled with wicked glee. "Rise, my apprentice." he ordered. "Let us begin your training tomorrow."
"As you command, my master." Tirek agreed.
And so, Tirek joined Grogar and became his new apprentice. Adagio Dazzle and her two sisters were still new with having a centaur as a new member of the family, but they knew that their master had a plan in mind and soon they came to know the half-blood prince and did not bother to ask their master what happened earlier today until it was nighttime. The three sirens went to sleep inside the pool while Grogar decided to teach his new protégé about magic and how to master, control and absorb it. After two hours of studying, Tirek yawned and became sleepy before Grogar tucked him back into the same bed that he woke up from. Tirek was still afraid, but Grogar promised him that he won't use his powers to punish him (unless he has to). Accepting his new home with a new mentor and father figure felt new to Tirek and for the first time in his life, he found new friends and he found himself a new family; Meanwhile, back at the castle, Scorpan learned the truth about his brother and he forgave his parents for not telling him earlier. King Vorak announced to the public that his firstborn son has gone missing and then he promised that if anyone would find Tirek and bring him back home, then he or she will be well rewarded. As for Queen Haydon and Scorpan, they still feel sad that Tirek ran away from home. The next day, it was morning. Tirek was still fast asleep with his chest moving up and down when Grogar came to wake him up.
"Wake up, Tirek." said Grogar. "Rise and shine. It's a beautiful morning."
Tirek woke up as he stretched out his limbs and yawned. "Good morning, master." he said.
"Did you have a nice rest?" Grogar asked.
"Yes, Grogar." Tirek replied as he got out of bed. "What day is it?" he asked.
"Today is Wednesday and today's your first day of training." Grogar told the young centaur.
"Training?" said Tirek. "What am I to learn, master?" he asked.
"I'm going to teach you how to consume Equestrian magic." Grogar replied. "Come with me. There's something I need to show you." he said.
"Oh, what is it?" Tirek asked with a curious expression on his face.
Grogar looked back at Tirek. "Patience, boy. It's a surprise." the old ram said to his apprentice.
Tirek followed his new mentor and father figure to a dark tunnel. Then, Grogar used his magic to light their way through the darkness as his horns glowed brightly red for Tirek to see in the shadows. After entering the tunnel, Tirek followed Grogar down the stairs and into the catacombs. Tirek had no idea where his master was taking him, yet he could feel the cold shiver running down his spine. The underground place was dark and spooky and Tirek wanted to avoid cobwebs, spiders, skeletons, rats, stones, dust, cockroaches and the smell of rotten corpses. The environment was creepy and even disgusting for Tirek.
"What is this place?" Tirek asked.
"This place...is where I liked to call, 'the Pit of the Dead.' This is where I keep all the corpses hidden." Grogar remarked.
"And...why?" Tirek asked, feeling disgusted and scared at the same time.
"Because there isn't a graveyard nearby and nobody likes to see things that are...lifeless." Grogar replied.
"But why would you make your own crypt here of all places?" Tirek asked.
"It's because I'm a Necromancer, remember?" Grogar said. "And Necromancers are dark mages that master the undead. I put all the dead bodies here for a reason: in case an unwanted guest or two would come to my private property, I'd use my undead soldiers to kill, capture or frighten." he explained.
"That explains a lot." Tirek said nervously. "Where are we going?" he asked.
"Help! Somepony, please! Help!" a female voice cried.
Tirek gasped with a surprised expression on his face while Grogar chuckled evilly at the sound of despair. Tirek followed his master to the source of the frightful screaming and it was a unicorn. The mare had a green coat, deep blue mane and tail, pink eyes and a pink flower for a cutie mark. The unicorn had a chain around her neck and she was shrinking in fear. Grogar was filled with wicked glee and Tirek had no idea how long the pony was kept in the catacombs, yet he couldn't help but feel concerned for the unicorn.
"It's...a unicorn. Where did you get it from?" Tirek asked.
"The wilderness." Grogar answered. "Three days ago, while you were unconscious, this little mare was trespassing into my hideout before I caught her while she was snooping around and stealing some of my herbs." he explained.
"I wasn't trying to steal from you! I was only searching for food, water and shelter." the unicorn mare protested.
"SILENCE!!!" Grogar said, intimidating the prisoner. "You are an intruder and a thief! Nopony breaks into my property and gets away with it!"
"But what if she's telling the truth?" Tirek asked.
Grogar turned to his apprentice. "Do not try to defend this pony, Tirek!" he lectured. "Ponies are evil and self-righteous beings that don't deserve to have all the magic in the world like we do. Equestria is a beautiful, but corrupted place filled with horrible, selfish and weak-minded equines!" he said.
"How can you be so sure?" asked Tirek.
"Oh, Tirek. You don't know what its like out there." said Grogar. "The ponies will go out of their way to get what they want and they'll even lie, kill, steal and destroy in order to achieve their goals. Ponies are creatures who think that the world completely revolves around them. They may appear to be innocent and friendly, but they will show you by their true nature if they choose to manipulate you, take advantage of you or even turn your friends against you. Starswirl the Bearded was a unicorn wizard whom I thought was different than the other ponies...and yet I was so wrong to think that HE was the only friend in the world that I can trust!" he growled angrily before making a sorrowful expression on his face.
"Grogar, I...I'm sorry that you were betrayed by a pony." Tirek said, feeling sympathy for his master.
"And I'm very sorry that your father never wanted to help you...or to accept you as his own son." Grogar replied as he shed a tear.
Tirek sniffled as he began to cry. "He never cared about me and he never understood me." he said.
"Awww, there, there. There's no need to cry." Grogar replied. "Your family may have misunderstood you...but I understand you, my boy." he said as he wiped the tears off of Tirek's eyes. "And I know you will do great things with your gifts if you follow into my hoof-steps."
Tirek took a deep breath. "You're right, master." he said as he stopped crying. "Now teach me how to consume unicorn magic." he said.
"Hold onto your hooves, my apprentice." Grogar replied. "Before we begin this test on your first year of training, let me show you how its done." the old ram observed.
Tirek stood back and watched as Grogar began to show him how to absorb unicorn magic. The old ram focused on the frightened pony prisoner and then he opened his jaws to inhale and lure the magic away from the tip of the mare unicorn's horn. Grogar only consumed a little bit of magic so that he can let his apprentice try to absorb the rest of it. After demonstrating the ability to steal magical energy from a unicorn, Grogar insisted Tirek to test his powers.
"There. Now, you try." the old ram said.
"Okay." Tirek said before he walked towards the prisoner and took a deep breath. "Here goes nothing." he mumbled.
"No! Please, don't hurt me!" the unicorn mare begged.
"Oh, he won't hurt you...much!" said Grogar. "Focus on the pony and its magic, take a deep breath and absorb." he ordered.
"Whatever you say, my master." Tirek replied, feeling ready for his test.
Grogar smiled for he was pleased with how his new apprentice would address him now. Tirek tried focusing on the unicorn and took a deep breath before he attempted to absorb the magic from the prisoner. At first, it was no use and when Tirek remembered how he destroyed Sendak the Elder's den with his magic, the young centaur stopped in fear of damaging the catacombs. However, Grogar wanted Tirek to practice again and again. The teenage centaur tried to make an excuse with his mentor, but Grogar scolded him and the old ram told him to keep practicing before Tirek sighed in frustration and agreed to keep trying. Trying to absorb unicorn magic was difficult for Tirek, but Grogar was kind enough to help him by showing him how to bend magical energy to his will. The unicorn mare was frightened for she felt like a lab rat being put to a horrific experiment; Finally, Tirek was able to bend magic from the unicorn, but before he was ready to consume all of it from the prisoner, Grogar suggested that Tirek should remove his chestplate and his bands so that the results would be easy. After removing his royal attire, Tirek was ready.
"Prepare to be drained!" Tirek said with wicked glee.
"Please! No more!" the mare shouted.
"This is going to be good! " Grogar thought with a sadistic look on his face.
As Tirek drained the magic from the tip of the unicorn's horn, Grogar laughed like a crazed maniac and he laughed so loud and so evilly that even the Three Sirens could hear him from below the Pit of the Dead. When Tirek successfully stripped the chained unicorn of her magic, the pony collapsed due to be drained and then the magic molded Grogar's new apprentice into a more stronger and muscular centaur. To Tirek, it was literally a new, painful, scary and intense experience for him at first; Soon, his body had quickly grown into powerful steroids and his eyes glowed bright yellow as his horns stretched out and his claws grew sharp and his hooves became a little harder than rock and stone. Dark energy was flowing all around Tirek, causing him to feel more healthier and more stronger than he was before. Tirek then let out a painful roar before the transformation was complete.
"Well done, my apprentice. Well done." Grogar said twice to his protégé. "How do you feel?" he asked.
"I feel...overwhelmed by power!" Tirek exclaimed as he looked at his new features.
"The magic is strong within you." said Grogar. "A powerful centaur you will become. From now on, you shall be known to all as...Lord Tirek." he declared.
"Thank you for helping me!" Tirek said in appreciation.
"You're welcome." Grogar replied. "Meet me outside the cave, my friend. Your training has only begun."
"But how can I--?" Tirek tried to ask before his master gave him a quick direction.
"Use your newfound powers to help you find your way back from the catacombs." Grogar interrupted.
"Okay. But what about the pony?" Tirek asked, his mentor rolled his eyes to look at the weak prisoner.
"Let her rot." he said. "Once you have stripped a pony of his or her magic...he or she will be nothing more but an empty shell. Like a clam without a pearl, they are nothing without their magic."
As Tirek made his way out of the catacombs, Grogar went over to the weak unicorn before he decided to dispose of her by using his magic to consume the mare's soul and then he left her rotten old corpse behind as leftovers for the rats. (I'm not kidding! He litterally sucked the life out of that poor unicorn after Tirek just ate her magic like a milkshake!) Later that day, Tirek met Grogar outside the cave before he began training with him. Every day and every night, Grogar would test Tirek of his newfound strength and power and the old ram would put him in every challenging test; Whenever Tirek would fail, Grogar would always give him a chance to try again tomorrow. For weeks, Tirek learned new lessons, he learned how to fight like a warrior, he learned how to master his own magic abilities, he learned how to show no mercy to his enemies, he learned how to be cunning and fierce and he allowed his new mentor and father figure to build him up into something less "human" and more monstrous and powerful. About a year later, Tirek went to his bedroom for a snooze when Adagio Dazzle and her sisters decided to seduce him without Grogar's permission. Tirek was fast asleep when he woke up to the singing sounds of the Three Sirens and then...he was surrounded by them!
"What are you doing in here?" Tirek asked.
"Oh, Tirek. We're so sorry that we've entered your room without knocking." said Sonata Dusk.
"But you won't mind if we...tuck you in. Wouldn't you?" Aria Blaze asked.
"What do you want?!" Tirek said, feeling irritated.
"Nothing, Tirek. Nothing." Adagio replied. "It's just that our sister, Sonata, has been having a little crush on you since you came to our lives." she said while moving closer towards Tirek.
"And we were thinking that it's about time we've celebrated your first years of training!" said Aria Blaze.
"How?" Tirek asked as he backed away from the three flirtatious sirens.
"Adore us...embrace us...pose for us...mate with us!" the three sirens said lustfully.
"What!?! NO! Get your hooves away from me, you--Aah!"
Tirek tried to reject the Three Sirens' offer to mate with him only to trip and fall onto his own bed. Adagio Dazzle and her sisters began to move closer to Tirek while fighting each other for the young centaur's body. Tirek struggled with the floating sea creatures as one of them tries to make out with him. When Grogar came to find out what was going on, he saw the three sirens fighting to lust over his apprentice before he took action to stop the Three Sirens.
"What in the name of Erebus is going on in here!!?" Grogar said, walking into the bedroom.
"Master!" the Three Sirens said in their exposure.
"Get off of my apprentice this instant!" Grogar scolded.
"Master, we can explain..." Aria Blaze tried to say.
"I said...GET OFF OF MY APPRENTICE!!!" Grogar raised his voice.
"Yes, Master." The Three Sirens answered in shame and obedience.
"I'm very disappointed in you sirens. Crawling over Lord Tirek in his chambers like slithering snakes without MY permission! Do you think this makes me proud of you?!" Grogar grumbled.
"No." Adagio and her sisters nodded.
"Go back to the waters from whence you came and learn from your mistakes. Understand?!"
"Mm-hmm." the Three Sirens answered.
"Good! Now leave us." Grogar ordered before the sirens left the room.
"Way the go, Sonata." Aria Blaze said, glaring at her sister.
"Quiet you two!" Adagio Dazzle said to her sisters.
Chapter 4: A Family Reunion
Once the Three Sirens had left the bedroom chamber, Grogar and Tirek were alone. The old ram checked to see if any of his female singers had left their germs on the coat of his apprentice. Turns out, there weren't any germs, except there was a kiss mark at the left side of Tirek's cheek. Grogar wiped the kiss mark off of his apprentice's face before he stopped grooming and cleaning him.
"Are you alright, Tirek?" Grogar asked. "Did they lay a hoof on you?"
"A little." Tirek answered. "Thanks for saving my life again." he said.
"Do not mention it, my boy." Grogar replied. "I do apologize for my female students. They do have their own little instinct." he said.
"Instinct? They tried to force me to--" Tirek's dialogue was cut off when Grogar looked straight in his eyes.
"It won't happen again, I assure you. Remember what I've taught you, Tirek: the female mind is weak but you never know when they might try to seduce you or...to put you under their spell." Grogar told him.
"Grogar? When you came to my rescue, you mentioned the name 'Erebus'. Who is he?" Tirek asked.
"Erebus...is the Lord of Tartarus. He was born from the first Draconequus, Chaos, before he went to the Pit of Tartarus where he mastered the elements of deep darkness, shadow and flame." Grogar said. "I sold my soul to him in exchange for immortality and unlimited power."
"Master?" said Tirek.
"Yes, my apprentice?" Grogar said back.
"How did it make you feel...when you gave away your soul?" Tirek asked.
Grogar paused before he replied, "It felt like I was being torn apart; The pain was unimaginable." he said.
"Did it felt like a near-death experience?" Tirek asked.
"Yes." Grogar answered. "Please try to understand that I've suffered a lot more pain than you have." he said.
"What do you mean by that?" Tirek asked.
Grogar was about to answer when he stopped to think before he decided to show his apprentice of what he meant. The old ram took the young centaur to the round table where he showed him the crystal ball that he mentioned. Tirek sat down right next to his mentor and father figure before Grogar spoke in Tambelonian language for the crystal ball to work.
"What are you doing?" asked Tirek.
"Shhh! Don't interfere." Grogar hushed. "I want to show you my past and how I came to be." he whispered.
Tirek was confused, but he listened. The crystal ball began to stir before it showed him horrific images of Grogar's past: it was full of tragedy, loss, confusion, ambition, betrayal, pain, misery, hatred, sorrow, vengeance, insanity and dark magic. Tirek felt so overwhelmed by what he was seeing that he tried to leave, but Grogar ordered him to stay until the crystal ball stopped showing him flashbacks.
"Now do you see how I came to be like this?" said Grogar.
Tirek panted with a horrified expression on his face. "Why did you show me that?!" he asked.
"Because it's been a year since I've brought you in...and I wanted to share my pain with you." Grogar replied.
"Master...what will become of me when my training is done?" Tirek asked.
"Oh, Tirek." said Grogar. "So young, so strong and so full of questions. When you're older and your years of training are over, I will take you over to the Pool of Miracles where you will be rewarded for your hard working efforts."
"But I want to be like you, now!" Tirek complained.
"Patience, boy." said Grogar.
"Don't call me boy!" Tirek raised his voice. "I am a full grown centaur and you know that!" he said angrily.
"Ahh, you have a temper! I like it." Grogar replied, admiring the attitude of his apprentice. "You still got a lot to learn under my supervision until you fully understand what it takes to truly become an overlord of all nations. This, I promise you." he said.
"But why choose me of all creatures besides the Three Sirens?" Tirek asked.
"Because the truth of the matter is: I don't have children of my own. Adagio Dazzle, Sonata Dusk and Aria Blaze were lost and alone after their mother had been killed across the seas." Grogar explained. "I brought them in only as my singing pets. But you---you were my magical success! I want a nice boy like you who would follow into my hoof steps...and you shall carry out my legacy and be the rightful king of Equestria when I am gone."
"Then I will not fail you, master." said Tirek. "Someday, I will conquer Equestria and fulfill my destiny!" he declared.
"That's the spirit! Come, my son. Your future awaits." Grogar said.
And so Grogar continued to build Tirek up into a muscled brute, a skilled warrior, an absorber of magic, a conqueror and a destroyer. As for Adagio Dazzle and her sisters, they soon became jealous of Tirek for he was Grogar's favorite pupil and foster-son, but despite their jealousy, they would rather let their master stick to his evil plan while they go out to feed on the negativity of others for as long as they kept singing their hypnotic songs together. Unfortunately, when the Three Sirens went to feed on the negativity of ponies in Canterlot, they were never seen or heard from again. Eight years have now passed, Lord Tirek has fully changed from a determined centaur into a fearsome beast.
"Ah, Tirek. Look at how much you've grown!" said Grogar. "You are as fascinating as I hoped you to be."
"Indeed, Master Grogar." Lord Tirek replied. "Because of your wisdom and guidance, I am no longer a weakling nor am I a royal outcast anymore; From now on, I am Lord Tirek: The Dark Centaur, The Absorber of Magic, The Future Ruler of Equestria and...The Son of Grogar!" he boasted.
"I am proud of you, Tirek; You are a fine warrior. You are like the son I've always wanted." Grogar said.
"Thank you, sir." Tirek replied. "Now where can we find this...Pool of Miracles?" he asked.
"We'll need to go Southeast from here to where we can find it." Grogar told him. "Follow me." he said.
Lord Tirek followed Grogar outside the caverns and across the desert. They traveled for twenty miles until finally, they made it to their destination at the Dark Mountain. The centaur followed his master up the mountain until they went inside a tunnel which lead them to the entrance of a dark and ancient temple. Soon, they came across a group of elderly creatures dressed in black cloaks. Grogar then tells his apprentice to wait while he greets them.
"Wait here." Grogar said to Tirek.
"Master, who are they?" Lord Tirek asked.
"These creatures dressed in black are the Servants of Erebus." Grogar replied. "We have arrived to their council of dark worship; But fear not, they will not harm us for they are on our side." Grogar reassured.
"But I thought that we're going to the Pool of Miracles." said Tirek.
"We are. But before we can make our way there, we'll need to deal with the cult first." Grogar replied. "Allow me to have a word with them, then I will introduce you to them. Once our meeting is over, meet me at the Pool of Miracles and I will let you know when its time for your reward." Grogar instructed.
"Okay, master." Lord Tirek agreed.
"There's a good lad." Grogar said in approval.
Lord Tirek stood back and waited while his master heads over to greet the Servants of Erebus. The hooded figures were elderly creatures: satyrs, minotaurs, harpies, goblins and dark mages. The crooked satyr, Elder Medus, was the cult leader. When they saw Grogar coming forward, they recognized him before they welcomed him.
"Brother Grogar! Thou hast returned." said the cult leader, Medus.
"Yes, Elder Medus." Grogar replied. "I have returned to the Council of Erebus with my faithful pupil and foster son."
"Pupil? Foster son?" the cloaked figures said.
"What endues thee here to our temple?" Medus asked.
"The answer is quite simple, Elder Medus." said Grogar. "I have found a way to conquer all of Equestria."
"How? Is it truly possible to taketh over such a kingdom did fill with charm?" Elder Medus said, puzzled.
"Everything is possible." Grogar replied. "My apprentice has grown under my supervision and now he wishes to see the Pool of Miracles with me, the one who saved his life." he explained to the cloaked elders.
"Who is this apprentice dost thou speaketh of?" Elder Medus asked.
Grogar turned around to summon his protégé. "Tirek! You can come out, now." he called.
Lord Tirek trotted out of the darkness to reveal himself to the Servants of Erebus. Elder Medus and the other cloaked figures were surprised for they never thought that one of their members would build a young centaur up into a dark warrior of brute force.
"Elder Medus? This is my apprentice: Lord Tirek." Grogar introduced.
"We see you have brought a centaur here...only to baptize him at the Pool of Miracles." a harpy dressed in black said.
"Yes, my friends." Grogar replied. "What you have guessed is true; The time has come for my faithful protégé to be blessed and rewarded...with eternal life!" he said.
Lord Tirek was very surprised with what his master just said. "Master! You didn't tell me..." he paused, feeling a bit speechless.
"I wanted it to be a surprise." Grogar explained. "If I told you about it earlier, it wouldn't be a surprise now would it?" he said while being sassy.
"Brother Grogar, art thou certain that this young centaur shalt succeed?" Elder Medus asked.
"I am certain, your grace." Grogar answered. "I assure thee that my plan for vengeance will work! We ask only for thy permission to enter within the caverns and into the Pool of Miracles." he said.
"So be it." said Elder Medus. "But best be careful at which hour thee wend to the caverns with thy apprentice; the Pool of Miracles offers life and death." the old satyr warned. Grogar slowly nodded at him, letting him know that he understands the situation.
Suddenly, Grogar and the group heard the sounds of sword fighting and male shouting coming from somewhere in the mountain. Tirek had no idea where the noise was coming from, but Grogar and the Servants of Erebus knew what it meant: something was wrong and the guards were fighting some kind of intruder. Elder Medus told the group to quickly protect the entrance to the Pool of Miracles and then he told Grogar to find out what's going on while Tirek stays.
"We have an intruder!" a guard reported.
"Stay here, Tirek, while we find out what's going on!" Grogar ordered Tirek.
"But master, I want to help you!" Tirek protested.
"I understand. But if you wish to help me." Grogar paused before he answered. "Then please, do as I say and wait! I'll summon you in case I am in need for your protection." he promised.
"Okay, Master Grogar." said Tirek. "Please be careful, my friend!" he thought.
Grogar rushed with the cult members to search for the intruder while Tirek stayed put. The full grown centaur waited for twenty minutes, yet he couldn't help but feel concerned for his mentor and father figure. Tirek never wanted anything bad to happen to Grogar because he was more supportive than Sendak the Elder was. When Tirek heard a cry for help, he galloped through the tunnel and then he went upstairs where he came across a scene that made him feel shocked. It was Grogar alright and he was fighting against an elderly centaur with golden armor, a royal robe, a crown and a long sword. Tirek recognized the old centaur: it was his father, King Vorak!
"I won't allow you to corrupt him any further!" King Vorak said while using his sword to fight against Grogar and his dark magic.
"SILENCE!!! He belongs to me, old one! I am guiding him towards his destiny!" Grogar replied as his horns glowed red with dark energy.
"Father?" Tirek said as he couldn't believe his eyes.
King Vorak heard the voice of his long-lost son before he looked at him. "Son!" he said out loud.
"Tirek! This elder is the intruder! He--" Grogar tried to say before King Vorak punched him in the face.
Tirek was scared when his master was knocked down before his eyes before King Vorak trotted towards his son. The elderly centaur almost didn't recognize his firstborn son, yet he could not believe that after years of searching, the king thought that his eldest child was dead and lost forever. King Vorak went closer before he raised his hand to touch Tirek's face and he was overwhelmed by sadness and joy while Tirek was overwhelmed by sadness, fear, guilt, anger and shock.
"Tirek. Is it really you?" King Vorak asked as he looked at his long-lost son.
Tirek was speechless at first before he tried to answer with a lie on his tongue. "I--I'm not who you think I am! I don't know who you are." he stammered.
"Tirek...it's me, your father; Don't you recognize me?" said King Vorak. "All these years, your mother and I have been searching for you until we assumed that you were dead and lost forever. But now, look at you! You're all grown up." he said as tears ran down from his eyes.
"No...NO! You can't be my father! I am not your son nor am I your blood!" Tirek cried out in denial.
"Tirek, look at me! Your lies will not serve you anymore." King Vorak replied. "You have allowed this...Necromancer to twist your mind and now that I've found you, come home with me and your real family will call out in celebration for your return." he said.
"Don't listen to him, Tirek! If he takes you away from me, you will be beheaded by your own kin!" Grogar shouted as he regained his strength.
"Tirek! Do not stay focus onto him, do you hear me?!" King Vorak lectured Tirek. "This is your only chance for you to return home and to redeem yourself!" he said.
Tirek hesitated to choose before Grogar immediately attacked King Vorak like a crazed animal. The old centaur struggled with his attacker, then he used his sword to draw blood. Vorak didn't want to kill Grogar, but he wanted to make him pay for corrupting his firstborn son and keeping him away from his family. Tirek watched in horror as his master fought against the old centaur. Tirek couldn't believe that this intruder was his own biological father, but he also couldn't believe that he had been away from home for so long that he nearly forgotten who he was. Grogar tried using his red lightning to shock King Vorak, but the old centaur deflected it with his sword before he pinned the demonic ram to the ground. King Vorak then pointed his long sword at his foe.
"TIREK!!!" Grogar shouted. "You must choose, now! Don't let him kill me, please! Help me!--HELP ME!" he pleaded. "You need me more than your father needs you!" he said.
"Don't listen to him, Tirek!" King Vorak said to his son while keeping his eyes on Grogar. "This...terrorist cannot be trusted!" he panted.
"You dare to call me as if I were the villain!?!" Grogar said in an enraged tone. "You hired me from my countryside to save your beloved wife and child and this is how you repay me after all I have done for you?!!" he said.
"Silence! We've been told about your schemes and I will not allow you to use my son to conquer Equestria!" King Vorak replied before raising his long sword. "You will be stopped." he said.
"Father, stop!" Tirek raised his voice before attacking his biological father with his magic.
Grogar used his dark magic to heal his scars and bruises before he got himself up to witness a fight scene between father and son. The old ram was frightened on the outside, but on the inside he was filled with relief and villainy. He knew that Tirek would learn to be his own bodyguard.
"Son, listen to me! It doesn't have to be like this!" King Vorak said before being attacked again.
"Why not, father dearest?!" Tirek smirked. "Was it because you never told me the truth? Or was it because I never behaved like a real prince!?!" he scowled at his father.
"Tirek, there's no need to fight me!" King Vorak said with a worried expression on his face.
Tirek chuckled evilly. "You are so right, father. After all, you mistreated me with nothing but fear and hate!" he said.
"I was wrong to be a terrible father, Tirek!" King Vorak replied. "Forgive me!" he begged.
But Tirek had already let go of the past and he knew that he never wanted to return home. For once in his lifetime, the power-hungry centaur looked down at his father with a grudging expression on his face before he used his evil power to levitate the old centaur off the ground, then he brutally tossed him around like a rag-doll. As Grogar witnessed the scene where King Vorak gets magically beaten by his own son, he smiled evilly at the sound of armor shattering, robes ripping, legs breaking and painful shrieks. After hurting his father in a brutal way, Tirek tossed King Vorak over to the edge of the highest tower that they were on. King Vorak, with his equine legs broken, quickly held onto the edge and then he struggles in pain and fear to pull himself back up for his life. Then he sees Tirek looking down at him as if he were the one that deserved better punishment.
"Yes! YES!!!" said Grogar. "Go on, Tirek. Finish him off."
“Tirek, please! Son, I can’t move my legs. Help me!” King Vorak pleaded.
“Destroy him, Tirek.” said Grogar. “He never really cared for you. Go on, finish him!” he ordered.
"No." Tirek murmured.
"What did you say?" Grogar asked.
"I said, 'no'...I believe it's best to forsake him." Tirek said to his mentor.
Grogar was full of surprise, but when he read Tirek’s mind, he then grinned evilly. "That's my boy." he crooned.
“Goodbye...father.” Tirek said to King Vorak.
King Vorak gasped in horror, "No! NO!!! Not my son!" he cried.
"Please, call me Lord Tirek." Tirek replied.
A ball of dark magical energy glowed at the top of Grogar's head between his ram horns. Tirek assumed that he might've gotten into his master's nerves, but the demonic ram wasn't aiming at his apprentice, but rather his former parent. Grogar shot a red electric laser bolt at a pillar right next to King Vorak, then the area starts to crack and crumble before King Vorak loses his grip and falls down from the tower. When he shouted, Tirek was ready to run to see his father one last time, but Grogar catches him with his dark magic before he pulled him away from the crumbling edge to safety. King Vorak's last sound of shouting was heard before it faded into an echo. Tirek couldn't believe his own ears, but he resisted to tears for once in his life to show no remorse. Grogar moved forward to his apprentice.
"That was a smart move, lad." said Grogar. "I'm so proud of you."
Tirek lowered his head down. "The king has fallen...and I am free!" Tirek echoed.
"Yesss." said Grogar.
"What should we do now, my master?" Tirek asked.
"Follow me and I will let you bathe into the Pool of Miracles." Grogar replied. "Once that is done, we will come up with a plan to rob Equestria of its magic." he said.
Tirek clenched his fist. "Then we shall rule it together, just you and--"
"No, Lord Tirek, no." Grogar interrupted. "I'm afraid that it won't be easy for us, even with our strength and power combined." he said to his apprentice.
"What!?! But you said that we could work together as a team!" Tirek protested.
"We are a team, but nopony must know of my return...yet." Grogar said.
Tirek didn't know what his master meant to say, but he showed some respect towards the elderly ram with red eyes before he followed him to the Pool of Miracles. The young centaur was already built into a muscular warrior, except he wasn't blessed with long life. Just as soon as the duo made it through the caverns, they found the Pool that glowed with life energy and ghostly aura, then Grogar ordered Tirek to jump into the lake. At first, the centaur was anxious and when he dipped his hooves into the water, Tirek could feel the life energy clinging onto his leg and then, he trotted into the Pool of Miracles, thus gaining eternal life. Tirek had never felt more alive than ever and the life energy in the water was refreshing for him.
After bathing in the Pool of Miracles, both Grogar and Tirek came up with a plan to take over Equestria. The first thing they have to do is to find someone to join their group. Someone who'll might be of use to them. The Servants of Erebus were unaware that a gargoyle knight had witnessed the fall and death of King Vorak before he flew all the way back to the kingdom where he told Queen Haydon about the demise of her husband just as he gave her majesty the crown and the longsword. Everyone in the kingdom, including Scorpan, became heartbroken. That day, the gargoyle queen mourned the death of her husband while her son went outside the castle to grieve over the loss of his father. Eventually, Queen Haydon died of a broken heart soon afterwards. After the King and Queen had been buried, Scorpan was now alone without a family and soon he became the new king of the castle. Meanwhile, Grogar and Tirek went to the Nether Lands where they stopped to find a castle that used to be Tirek's home.
"Do you recognize this place, Lord Tirek?" Grogar asked.
"Yes, master. This used to be my home." Tirek replied.
"Yes." Grogar nodded. "Now, you must meet your brother, Scorpan, and ask him if he would like to join you. As for me, I must return to my lair."
"But I thought we were going to take over Equestria together! Why should I ask my brother to join me?" said Tirek.
"Because he might be of good use to you." Grogar replied. "You will go into the castle and ask your brother to join you. If he agrees to follow you, you will go to Equestria and then you will absorb all the magic from every pony you see in order to become stronger. Once you have succeeded, we shall dominate the world of Equestria and you shall rule it...as it's god!" he promised.
Lord Tirek smiled wickedly for he liked the sound of becoming a god. Tirek promised Grogar that he will not fail his mission in conquering Equestria before the muscular centaur went to find his brother while the demonic ram went back to his secret hideout. Inside the castle, Scorpan was weeping while sitting on his father's throne when he heard the sound of heavy hoof steps as the earth began to shake. Then, something broke through the castle gates and stormed into the throneroom. It was Tirek! The guards tried to fend off the centaur, but he used his magic to move them out of the way. Scorpan couldn't believe his yellow eyes.
"W-Who are you?!" said Scorpan.
"Oh, Scorpan. Don't you recognize your own brother?" Tirek replied.
"Tirek? Is it really you? I thought you were dead." said Scorpan.
“I can assure you, I am not dead yet.” replied Tirek. “Besides, you know the old saying: ‘Only the strong can survive while the weak perish.” he said.
“Brother, what has happened to you?! You look so...big and powerful!” Scorpan exclaimed.
“Oh, this? Don’t you find this new form to be fascinating, Scorpan?” asked Tirek.
“Um, I, uh...” Scorpan stammered. “I think you look...glorious.” he said with a frightened look on his face.
"Did you miss me while I was gone, little brother?" Tirek asked. "Well, I've come back this time for a little family reunion!"
"What do you want?" Scorpan asked.
"I want you to join me, Scorpan." Tirek replied. "We are going to a place called Equestria and we're going to conquer it!" he said.
"Conquer it? No--no! I can't join you." Scorpan replied.
“Why not, Scorpan? I thought you like to go somewhere with me.” said Tirek. “Besides, don’t you miss the good old days where we were raised together, where we both played together and that we fought together? I would like you to follow me once again.” he said to Scorpan.
“But Tirek, what would mother and father say if they were still here with us?!?” Scorpan cried. “Our mother died mourning the death of our father and she told me to be in charge of this kingdom so that our subjects wouldn’t fall in great suffering!” he said.
“So...you’ve become the new king, have you?” Tirek said softly.
“Yes.” Scorpan said as he nodded. “I bear the weight of our father’s crown. It is my responsibility to lead this kingdom through peace and prosperity.”
“And would you rather be a great leader than to be my follower?” Tirek asked his brother.
Scorpan nodded. The people inside the castle were frightened as Tirek looked down at his brother with envy in his eyes. He was even more jealous than before since the last time he saw his younger sibling before he ran away from home. As a teenage centaur, he wanted to come up with a plan to prevent Scorpan from becoming the newly crowned king of his father’s kingdom, but he didn’t know what to do. Tirek had always been cruel and rebellious when he was young and even now as a full grown centaur, he wanted to rule his father’s kingdom so that he would finally be respected and that he would watch his adoring subjects as they all bow down before him, but most of all besides that...he wanted to gain power. Tirek made an evil chuckle as he clenched his fist and swift his silver tail before he responded.
"Very well, Scorpan. If you wish to be king then so be it, then!” he said. “If you will not join me, brother, then I will TEAR THIS CASTLE APART!!!" Tirek threatened.
"No, wait! Stop! I will follow you and I’ll do anything you say." said Scorpan. "Please, don’t destroy our home. I'll do anything!" he begged.
“Anything?” asked Tirek. “You didn’t accept my proposal and now you beg for my mercy?” he said sarcastically.
Scorpan gulped in fear before he replied, “I promise that I’ll come with you, brother. I...will obey your every command.”
"That's better.” Come with me, Scorpan." said Tirek. "Our destiny awaits."

Chapter 5: The Fall of Tirek
So Scorpan followed Lord Tirek out of the castle and then they journeyed to the magical land of Equestria while Grogar had other things to do in his old hideout. Tirek ordered his brother to call him "master" instead of "brother" for Scorpan now works for him as his loyal servant. Up in the mountains, Tirek and Scorpan looked at the pony village from down below. It was then that Tirek ordered Scorpan to go explore the pony village until he could bring back a few ponies for him to steal their magic.
"Now that we're in Equestria, we can steal all of its magic and rule over those weak equines!" said Tirek.
"Yes, I agree with you, brother--I mean, master. Soon, these ponies will be under our control." Scorpan replied.
"Go into the village and check it out!" Tirek ordered. "And remember to bring a few ponies to me." he said.
"Yes, master." Scorpan replied before flying down from the mountain.
Scorpan flew down to the pony village where he began to investigate. The land was beautiful and it was like nothing he had ever seen before. The grass was green, the sky was blue, the trees were full of apples, the river was clear and the ponies were colorful. Scorpan continued to look around while admiring the peaceful village until he saw an old unicorn wizard nearby.
"This is a very beautiful place." said Scorpan.
"Who are you?" the old unicorn wizard asked.
"My name is Scorpan." Scorpan introduced.
"Interesting. What kind of creature are you?" the unicorn wizard asked.
"None of your business, pony! I am here to check things out. Nothing more, nothing less." Scorpan replied.
"Hmm, you are very interesting." said the old unicorn wizard.
"You know nothing about me, pony!" Scorpan said, trying to sound as mean as his brother.
"No need to be so harsh, I was just curious." the unicorn replied. "I can see the good in you, but also I can see the conflict within you."
"Yes." Scorpan sighed. "My brother wants to take over Equestria and all of its magic." he confessed.
"What?! Tell me about this brother of yours. Did he sent you here?" the unicorn wizard asked.
"Yes. His name is Tirek and he's not the kind of brother I use to know. He wants me to bring him ponies so that he can steal their magic."
"I see. Do not worry, Scorpan, I know that you won't harm anypony. Also, my name is Starswirl the Bearded. It's nice to meet you."
"It was nice to meet you, too." Scorpan replied.
"Come, let me introduce you to some friends of mine. You're welcome to have a feast with us." said Starswirl the Bearded.
"Thanks, Starswirl. I sure am hungry after all the traveling." Scorpan replied.
Later that day, Scorpan had spent a wonderful time befriending Starswirl the Bearded and the ponies of Equestria. He enjoyed a good feast and he shared his medallion with Starswirl the Bearded as the ponies crowned him with flowers. Starswirl then teaches Scorpan about the importance of friendship and how the magic is important to Equestria. Soon, Scorpan decided that he should go tell his brother to abandon his evil plan and not take over Equestria. Back in the caves up in the mountain, Tirek walked around in circles waiting for his brother to return.
"What is taking him so long?" said Tirek. "It's almost time, brother. Soon, all of Equestria will be ours."
"Brother! I need to speak to you about something." Scorpan said as he entered the cave.
"What do you want now?" Tirek asked. "Didn't I ask you to bring back a few ponies?"
"No. I've been thinking about this--" Scorpan tried to say before Tirek interrupted.
"We've come too far now, there's nothing for us back in our original home." said Tirek.
"I know, brother, but this isn't right. It's all wrong!" Scorpan replied.
"What?!" said Tirek.
"We can't take over Equestria and steal all the magic from it! We need to abandon this, Tirek." Scorpan said.
"Don't let me down, Scorpan! Not when we were so close to victory!" Tirek yelled at his brother.
"I won't let you drain all the magic from those ponies." said Scorpan. "I've seen them and they're not what you think they are!"
"You made friends with these weak fillies?! You're weak-minded, brother. Weak!" Tirek growled furiously.
"I am not weak, Tirek!" Scorpan yelled as tears began to fall from his eyes.
"If you will not help me, Scorpan, then I'll have to do this myself!" Tirek replied.
"I must warn the princesses! " Scorpan thought.
As Tirek makes his way to attack the pony village, Scorpan flies over to the Castle of the Two Sisters where he meets Starswirl the Bearded. Scorpan tells Starswirl that Tirek is on his way to take over Equestria and that he must warn the princesses immediately. The unicorn wizard leads Scorpan to the throne room where they meet Princess Celestia and Princess Luna.
"Starswirl, who is that creature?" Celestia asked.
"Your highness, this is my new friend, Scorpan." Starswirl introduced. "But we don't have much time. Equestria is in danger!"
"Danger?" Luna asked.
"We came to warn you! My brother, Tirek, is coming to take over Equestria and he's going to steal all the magic from every pegasus, unicorn and earth pony until he is strong enough to steal alicorn magic. Please, you must stop him!" said Scorpan.
"Captain Blueshield! Summon the guards! Protect the pony village immediately!" Celestia ordered.
"Yes, your highness!" Captain Blueshield replied.
"Thank you. Return to where thou came from. Seek shelter and be careful." Luna said to Scorpan.
"One more thing before I go, your majesties. Please, spare my brother's life." Scorpan said to the alicorn princesses.
"Thou has thy word." Luna replied.
Scorpan said goodbye to Starswirl the Bearded and the alicorn princesses before he went outside the castle. Meanwhile, Captain Blueshield and the guards tried to fight against Tirek, but they were no match for him. As the powerful centaur begins to wreak havoc across the pony village, he has the ponies surrounded when Scorpan watched in horror. Then, the gargoyle had no other choice but to confront his older brother.
"Brother, stop!" Scorpan shouted.
"Scorpan?! What are you doing here?" said Tirek.
"Brother, stop this madness! Don't make me do this. For the sake of our family, don't make me fight you!" Scorpan cried.
"Do you honestly think that you can stand against me?! I am more powerful than you think." said Tirek.
"Tirek, I will not let you harm the ponies of Equestria, for they are my friends!! And if you wanna get to them...then you'll have to go through me first!" said Scorpan.
"How dare you betray me, Scorpan!" Tirek yelled. "If you would side against me for the sake of these ponies."
"Then you leave me no choice, brother." Scorpan replied.
"You are no brother of mine!" Tirek shouted.
The battle between two brothers had just begun as Scorpan risked his life to save the ponies of Equestria from Tirek. The fight between the two brothers was brutal. Tirek would try to shoot magic against his brother, but Scorpan would dodge them at every turn. The ponies ran for their lives as Tirek and Scorpan fight against each other. They battled against each other until Tirek finally beats Scorpan to the ground.
"Why, Tirek? Why are you doing this?" said Scorpan, unable to get up.
"So that I can gain unlimited power, Scorpan!" Tirek replied. "While you were with mommy and daddy, I've spent all my years being lost and alone on that desert until I was finally able to develop my magic skills! Once I am rid of you, I will have Equestria all to myself. And don't you worry, brother dearest, I'll take good care of those pony friends of yours."
"NOOOOOOOO!!!" Scorpan shouted.
Scorpan leaps into the air and punches Tirek in the chin. The battle continues until Tirek grabs Scorpan by the throat. The gargoyle struggles to break himself free from his brother's grip, but he wasn't strong enough to move the centaur's hand from his neck. Tirek looks at Scorpan with a malevolent grin on his face before he starts squeezing his hand, choking the gargoyle. Scorpan gasped for air as Tirek laughed maniacally before a bright yellow beam shot the centaur right in the shoulder, causing Tirek to let go of his brother. He held onto his burnt shoulder before he looked up into the sky and saw Princess Celestia and Princess Luna coming to the rescue.
"The princesses!" Tirek growled.
"Your reign of terror ends now, Tirek!" yelled Celestia.
Just as Tirek was about to use his magic to aim and shoot the two sisters out of the sky, Celestia and Luna used their alicorn magic to defeat the evil centaur once and for all. The princesses shot their magic right into the earth like powerful lightning, then it caused an earthquake until a large crack started to open wide like a piece of paper being torn apart. Then, the crack in the earth began to suck everything into the pit below and then, chains rose from the pit and attached themselves right into Tirek's silver bands. Then, the chains dragged Tirek right into the pit. The centaur immediately grabbed onto the edge of the cliff before he pleaded for his brother to help him.
"Help me, Scorpan! Please, Help me!!!" Tirek cried.
"Why should I?!" Scorpan asked with an angry look on his face.
"Scorpan! I'm you're brother." said Tirek. "Help me up, please! I'm slipping!"
"Hang on, Tirek! I'm coming." said Scorpan as he reached out for his brother.
"Hurry! I'm losing my grip!" Tirek yelled.
"Quick! Take my hand." said Scorpan.
Tirek reached out for Scorpan's hand and just as they were about to reach each other's fingers, Luna swooped down from the sky to warn Scorpan not to help his brother.
"Scorpan, don't! It's a trick!" Luna warned.
"But he's my brother!" said Scorpan. "He needs my help!"
"Let it go, Scorpan." Celestia said. "Tirek has to pay for his crimes against Equestria."
Scorpan hesitated for a minute. Tirek looked at his brother with fear in his eyes as he held onto the edge for his life. As the crack in the earth continued to suck in, Scorpan made a quick decision and left his brother behind. Tirek lost his grip before falling down into the abyss.
"NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!" Tirek shouted as he fell.
"I'm sorry, Tirek. I'm so sorry." Scorpan thought as tears fell from his eyes.
Princess Celestia and Luna thanked Scorpan for risking his life to save the ponies of Equestria from his power-hungry brother before telling him that Tirek has been imprisoned into Tartarus. Not only did Tirek lost his powers when the chains dragged him down, but he was also drained of his youth. Starswirl the Bearded helped the ponies repair the damage Tirek had brought to the village before Scorpan asked the two Alicorn sisters if he can see his brother one last time before returning to his homeland. Later that day, Captain Blueshield led Scorpan to the gates of Tartarus where the three-headed dog, Cerberus, is there to make sure that no prisoner escapes. Before he could see his brother one last time, Captain Blueshield gives Scorpan a warning.
"Remember, I can only let you in for a couple of minutes. Tartarus is a very dangerous place."
"Alright. Thank you, Captain Blueshield." said Scorpan.
Scorpan made his way into Tartarus where he found his brother trapped inside a cage. Tirek had been drained of his own youth and magic and when he saw his younger brother, he glared at him.
"I'm guessing you are not here to apologize." said Tirek. "It was so noble of you to double-cross your own flesh and blood like that. You knew I never would've done this to you!"
"Tirek, what was I supposed to do?! I couldn't support you on this! Ponies are better than you think! They are not just beasts of burden! The magic is important to them!" said Scorpan.
"Look at me...please, Scorpan. Look at me." said Tirek. "Look at what these marvelous ponies of yours have done to me!!! I'm a shadow of myself! Ponies are a plague and they need to disappear! We had the power to do it! And now...you're not even worth my time."
"Tirek, listen." Scorpan said sadly. "Do you think this is easy for me? Sending my one and only brother to prison for all eternity?! It's not! I tried to change your mind...but I guess I've failed."
Before he could leave Tartarus, Scorpan gave his own medallion to his brother so that it would remind him that no matter what, he still cares about him. He was very sad that after reuniting with Tirek, he now has to say farewell to his former sibling. If there's one thing that hurts the most, it's saying goodbye to your last family member for one last time.
"I want you to have this. This is my medallion. I give it to you because...I hope it reminds you that no matter what happens, you're still my brother and I still care about you." Scorpan said as he handed over his medallion to Tirek.
After giving away his medallion, tears ran down from Scorpan's eyes before the gargoyle flew away in departure. Tirek looked as his brother went into the light before he was out of sight. Tirek put on the medallion and looked at his own reflection on it before he fell in despair. As time went by, Tirek was still trapped inside his own cage until he looked back at his own childhood where he was at a very young age when Scorpan was born. Tirek wanted to be the center of love and attention for his parents, but when they spent more time with his younger brother, he felt unloved and overshadowed by his family. The only company that Tirek had was his own shadow and the shadow of Grogar.
