Chapter 8: A Nightmare and an Offer

Opening his eyes once again, Sans was standing amidst the bodies that piled up above. Blood covered the corpses and their eyes were filled with emptiness, looking straight at him. Sans began fidget in place as he began to reminiscence the horrors of the past. In front of him, he noticed a trail of blood that led to his position. He looked downwards and saw a body that sent a instant shock to his bones. Judging from her complexion, she had lavender skin and her whole body covered in cuts, bruises and huge slash marks from different parts. Torn clothes that were ripped apart into shreds. She looked like a total mess and Sans remembered that girl he met before, the one with glasses and who was a total nerd. Sans slowly knelt down and took a good look at her, hearing her faint breath beginning to grow weaker and weaker. He knelt down to lean in to her pale face and suddenly, her hand held Sans' jacket tightly and pulled him closer as she looked at him with dying eyes and blood dripping from her mouth. Sans was caught off guard by this as a few words muttered from the dying girl's mouth.

"You...could've...saved...us....", The girl murmured, as her grip loosened off of Sans' jacket and lets out her last breath, giving him those empty purple eyes of death. Petrified, Sans stood up slowly as he shivered in fear. He turned his attention to his right and saw a corpse and from the looks of it, she had light pink streaks of hair and yellow cream skin. Sans could only gasp in horror as the laid body stared at him with lifeless eyes. He remembered something. Something so important that he mustn't break, for he swore in all his life. Sans approached her with quick action as he knelt down and raised the back of her head with his hand and his other held with her right hand. He looked at her with guilt and despair, remembering the promise he swore to keep, but it was all like that Genocide timeline. He failed once again and this time, nothing can be undone. Still fixing his eyes to hers, a faint voice spoke to him, barely audible but can be still heard.

"Y-You...pr-promised. H-How could y-you?", Fluttershy said with her last breath. Sans did nothing but kept silent as tears ran down his cheeks and dripped onto the shy girl's face. He set her head down gently and noticed a trail of blood which seemed to circle around him. Standing up, he saw other bodies laid down revolving around him. No mistake, Sans knew their faces well. The cowgirl, athlete, fashionista and the party girl.

"No...no....no!", Sans exclaimed. He could feel something crawling up his back. It felt familiar, as it slowly began to envelop him. A cold feeling climbed up his spine as he trembled at the bodies. A voice emitted behind him and hearing its voice was well enough to remind him who it was.

"You're next, comedian." It whispered in a deathly tone, as Sans slowly turned around to see the figure and saw a knife rush upon his chest. The last thing he saw was an ominous grin and crimson eyes that glowed of terror. Sans closed his eyes as the knife met his chest with great force.

"HAHHH!", Sans screamed as he jerked out of bed with his gray shirt and trousers. His sudden exertion caused his left eye to glow brightly from the nightmare. He started to breath heavily and sweat dripped from the side of his head. Sans groaned in discomfort. He laid back on his pillow facing the ceiling as he thought about the dream. Was it foreshadowing? No, he couldn’t. He made a promise to protect them. Sans swore with all his life to keep an eyesocket out for them and he never wanted them to get involved under any circumstance.

He got up and fixed himself to try and forget what he just witnessed in that cursed terror. Wearing a white plain shirt and his striped shorts, he grabbed his phone and headed downstairs to grab a bite. He sat down at the dining table and placed his phone next to him. Sans ate his ketchup filled burger, leaving some red sauce to stain across his mouth. Rubbing it with the back of his hand, his phone suddenly began to rang a loud noise which dazed him a bit.

“geez. forgot to turn that down.” Inhaling deeply, Sans spoke in a deep yet calm voice. “h-hello?”

“Hi, Sans. Good morning. It’s me, Sunset,” came the voice from the phone.

“oh, hey sunny. what’s up?”, Sans asked as he stretched his bones.

“Oh, nothing. Just woke up and eating breakfast as of now. Cooked the regular sunny-side ups to start the morning, I guess,” Sunset replied.

“heh. you want some bacon to go with that?” There was a short pause before Sunset’s voice emitted from the opposite phone line.

“Very funny, Sans. Just because my hair looks like bacon doesn’t mean you have to make such an obvious statement of that,” a small hint of irritation can be heard from Sunset’s voice as Sans chuckled to himself and spoke again.

“hey, its not my fault your hair looks like food. but, i’m sorry. for realsies.”

“I know, I know. So anyways, I was talking with the girls earlier and we had plans to go to the mall today.”

“hold on.” Sans looked at the clock above the door’s entrance. “damn. it’s only 6:45 in the morning. you’re already up then?”

“Yeah. In fact, all the girls were already up and I saw they were online. I talked to them and they said that they couldn’t really sleep well from, you know, yesterday.” Sunset replied. Sans remembered clearly and he rubbed his eyes with two of his fingers and groaned.

“welp, you girls are not alone. same goes here for me. next time, try to keep your hands to yourself, ok? for precautionary measures. sometimes you’re not gonna like what you’re gonna see.”

“I’m very, very sorry Sans. I just want to help. You were freaking out. I di-didn’t want y-you-”, Sunset stutters on the other line.

“hey, hey, hey sunny. calm down. it’s all in the past and I forgive you. it’s okies,” Sans smiled.

“T-Thank you Sans,” Sunset said as Sans heard some noises of her weeping. He decided to change the subject.

“so, you said you were going out with the girls. that’s cool.”

“Oh, ummmm...yeah. But we were hoping t-that uhhh...” Sunset seems to can’t vocalize the words she needs to say.

“hoping to what?” Sans asked confusingly.

“How am I going to say this?”, Sunset said nervously.

*Earlier

Sunset was wide awake for hours now. She couldn’t have a decent sleep and she only got a few hours nap due to the experience from yesterday. Every time she drifts to sleep, there was always this voice calling out to her from somewhere. No doubt, it was all in her head and this voice sounded baleful. It was always cackling a laugh, like it was mocking her. Sunset shook her head to forget that eerie feeling and decided to open her phone up. On her MyStable account, she saw her friends online. Sunset looked at the time on her phone and it read 6:15AM.

“At a time like this, you girls are already up? Hmmm...”, Curious, she messaged Twilight.

“Hey, Twi. You’re up early. Something’s up?” Sunset messaged. There was no immediate response, until a line of purple text appeared.

“I could say the same thing for you, Sunset. Couldn’t sleep well?”

“Yeah, how’d you know?”

“It figures. I can’t even let myself drift to sleep for one minute. If I do, this small figure appears and starts smiling at me, like it wants to play.”

“Sounds creepy.”

“It is and if this goes on, it would throw the whole baseline off from my studies.”

“I know. And I just want to say I’m sorry for what happened yesterday. If I didn’t held his hand, you wouldn’t have this kind of dillema.”

“Don’t be. At least we know who we’re up against. Once this is all over, I can finally have some peace of mind.”

“Right. So, how are the others? They awake?”

“Yeah. I guess they have the same problem too, like us.”

“Bummers. Let’s go talk to them. We’re going out right?”

“OH YEAH! I forgot about that. This whole nightmare has kept me from remembering. I think if we go out and enjoy ourselves, maybe we could at least take our mind off it. Sounds great? 😁”

“YEAH! You’re right. Hahaha...” Sunset messaged Twilight with a grin on her face. Then she had a thought on something.

“Oh, Twilight. You don’t mind if we bring Sans along, do you? He could also need some air since he’s been gone through a lot.”

“I, personally, don’t mind at all. We ALL need some air, Sunset. Yeah, he can come, but there’s just one problem...”

“Huh. What’s that?”

“He’s a skeleton. Do you think people will not dramatically freak out from him? 🤔”

“It’s fine Twi. No one’s really going to notice him. He’s so short and he has a hoodie to pu-” a message intervened before Sunset finished her message.

“You’re glad he’s not here. 😂”

“I know, right. Don’t tell him about this. 😆”

“Hmmm...I don’t know. I think I will tell him at some point. 😝”

“Hey. Size doesn’t matter, right? LOL”

“I suppose so. But still, I’m gonna tell him :P”

“Whatever. Hahahaha...
Anyways, I think we should talk to the others now, if bringing Sans is a good idea.”

Of course, it is. You suggested it in the first place, so I think they’ll agree too :D”

“I think so, too. I just don’t want him to be left out with all his burden weighing down on him. I feel sorry for Sans. 😥”

“Me too. Whatever Sans will go through, we’ll be there to help him.”

“Right you are, Twi. Let’s go talk to the others.”

“Yeah.”

“wait, you want me to go with you girls?”, Sans asked with a brow raised.

“Yeah, if you like. All the others agreed and we thought that you could spend some time with us since you’re the only...” There was a pause and Sans heard this and he knew exactly what she meant.

“monster left? yeah, thanks for reminding me, bud” Sans groaned in irritation.

“Yeah, and you could really use some outing with us. We don’t want you to be left out there. Come on, Sans. It’s gonna be fun,” Sunset offered.

“geez, talk about desperate, kid.” Sans thought and since he doesn’t want to disappoint the lady, he decided to tag along.

“alright, sunny. i come along ‘cause it looks like i seriously need some leg workout, although i have no muscles,” Sans joked. He can hear Sunset on the other line sighing heavily.

“Oh, Sans. You and your unbelievable army of puns. Bonehead,” Sunset called him as she giggled.

“heh. i guess we’re even now.”

“Okay, does 9:00 sound good? We had a ton planned for today, so its best if we’re out early.”

“uhhh...yeah. i’ve still got time to spare, so where do we meet? do i come over there or the other way around?”

“I’ll swing by your house. Just remember to get ready when I pick you up, ok Sans?” Sunset said but he heard Sans groaning loudly on the phone.

“ughhhh...really sunset!? did you really just asked that kind of question? are you for real or for what?”, Sans argued, much to Sunset’s confusion.

“What do you mean, Sans? Did I say something wrong or-?”

“sunset.” Sans cuts her off and sighed, as calm as he can be. “you don’t need to pick me up. i can walk, you know. fyi, i’m not a kid.” As soon as Sunset heard this, she twitched an eye and hung up on the phone. She decided to message him instead because she couldn’t take it anymore.

Sans heard a continuous ring from his phone as a message popped up from the screen:

“JUST. GET. READY.” Sans shrugged as he messaged back.
“you’re the boss, sunny, heh heh”
