Chapter Eighty-five Dust's Journey Catrina's redemption. {Fourth lock]

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

It’s been years since the one in question has been home. We are here to see if she deserves to be redeemed or put to the sword and killed. Most will never understand the ways we do things. But this is a must. She has done things in our name, making us worry she will do so again. Catrina used to be one of our powerful wizards of the past. Now she is just a judge of the stars and they must be put to the test.

It’s been at least a few days or so. We appeared in the middle of a meeting with the other land leaders. Rhy’s queen and Gizmos leader found it kind of strange a judge is under to be the judge. I don’t expect it to last very long—just an in-and-out judgment. I sat with Catrina and Rep in the cell so I could at least try to get her to repent of her sins.

“Listen if you do what they ask and repent for what you did. You will be free to go. Many of those who wanted me to go after you are now long dead and gone. They wanted you dead but I see you as an asset to help Ruby end this coming war.”

Rep snorts.

“We have been trying to get away from the war. She refused to listen to me. She wanted to get more of her potion so she could finally be powerful and get what she wanted back during everything. But no longer will we be able to since you caught us.”

I chuckle

“I didn’t catch you. She wanted to finally get this over with. But again all those who wanted me to go after are long since dead. I am the longest-living hunter for you. When I can finally retire I will see the world hopefully healed before I do so.”

Catrina spoke, and it’s been a while since she even did.

“I know what I did was awful Dust. I know they ruined your life to make you a hunter for me. Maybe I could give them whatever they want. Help Ruby and then do what Rep asked me to do. Settle down and enjoy the rest of my life.”

A smile creeps onto my face.

“I agree you should have a peaceful life, Catrina. Those you wronged are long dead and they didn’t expect you to do all this. Now for me, I should get back and I feel I need to get the lock. May I have it please.”

Catrina smirks

“No. Please defend me Dust and then you will get it deal?”

I let out a groan.

“Fine.”

Just as we finished speaking a large group of lights turned on and in the stands were leaders of those who we used to fight including my kin. I don’t know why the others of this land we fought are here. But I have a feeling they wanted to be able to be part of this.

“Hello, Catrina.”

The judge spoke and I stared up at the judge. Rassie is the one who doomed Ruby to her judgment with the others who thought they had a right to do so. I fear whatever they try to do with Catrina will be far worse.

“Do you have anyone who will defend you, Catrina?”

I stood up staring at Rassie and the others raising my hand.

“Since my life was destroyed by those of old daring to change me to hunt her. I will defend her. I have my reasons. Besides I don’t trust you Rassie, you have personal reasons to go after Catrina for what she did to your family in the past.”

Rassie snarls

“You’re correct, I have reasons. But those days are long gone. Catrina you’re standing accused of stealing the secrets of the witchweed potion. You stole it from the wizards and mages of old. You proved to the leaders you can’t be trusted but… I have seen the old history since we can now read it again. The old history was full of monsters in leadership. There is no stopping this. You’re not the only monster of our past.”

I stood there watching Rassie. He is correct that a lot of the races of old will never leave their sins. Their sins are going to be what they always focus on. It’s going to be harder to understand the truth and see it.

“I…Rassie with our allies here. We remove everything the past put on you Catrina. The past is the past and we need you now. With Ruby doing what she is doing and I know she is alive she was here. She is the reason we are now allied with our former enemies. I need you to gather troops and get ready to head back to the desert. Then we will find a way to remove the judge's mark on you. So you can finally age and slowly pass into a peaceful life.”

Catrina stood up with a smile on her face.

“Removing the judge mark will kill me Rassie but I will do what you ask. When the final battle comes I join Grogar. I expect you to be there to fight me to the end. One of us will control this city it will either be me or you. Now I shall do what I must.”

Catrina opens her bag and sets down an old piece of the machine looking at me and nodding. She is led out by some guards Rep not far behind her. I stood back up and looked at Rassie and the other leaders.

“I will return and get my key set for Ruby. I can’t just stay here Majesty told me the magic of Dream Valley is not safe and I was lucky I even made it here. So take care I shall come back and talk with you later.”

I take the piece and vanish before they can say anything. I am back in the old lair setting the piece in the machine and it rebuilds fully into a door. I stick my arm into the door lock hearing the key turn. I close my eyes feeling my chance to finally make something of myself over. My task is over. My life shall be fulfilled another way. Not for revenge. The revenge of those who wanted it long since dead.
