Once Dead: Back For Vengeance
Chapter 1: Brought back with a Price
Load Full StoryNext ChapterI stare out into the night sky. The moon preparing to rise… but not naturally… it’s raised by my good and only friend Luna. She always does a good job. I then look at my phone.
‘Almost time for the Gala. Time to make my move.’
I looked over to the mirror. My black hair was scraggy everywhere from stress. My eyes were yellow from a magical reaction when Twilight summoned me by accident. This world was inhabited by colorful ponies, and other beings of myth. They were human in appearance, but they had hooves for feet, fur, and even tails, horns, or wings. Other races had similar builds but they were called by different names, but I won’t bore you with the details.
Bottles were lying around and blood stains on the walls. The servants never come in here, racist bastards, and they would have to burn everything when they find it. I came here lost and confused, and they never saw me beyond the appearance. The Mane Six saw me nothing more as a monster, a study piece, or an idiot. The ones Celestia said would help me be accustomed to this world. She lied… she never even checked on me after I tried to send a letter for help. Only Luna came after she finally entered my dream realm. She took me back to Canterlot and gave me a place to stay while she moved me into a room next to hers.
The ponies always preach how much they can do… but have they ever tried to be friends with another race? There all to cowardly and stubborn to see past appearances, and tonight they will see what it means to be hollow.
I then grab my Ruger GP100 revolver form the dresser and a small box of ammo. Aside from my phone, wallet, and pendant of a ring from my favorite game.

The gun was with me because it was a gift from my family. That was over a year ago and nothing has improved… not even a way to go home.
A small alarm dinged as I looked up.
“Well… it’s about time….”

Celestia’s POV
This year’s Gala was breathtaking. With Twilight and her friends here, things would lighten up in no time.
“Sister.”
“Luna, how are you?”
“Another grand night, but I cannot find Sir Desmond.”
“Oh dear, he probably got lost, I sent a guard to escort him here. He’s going to help us greet guests for a bit. Hopefully he will impress one of our ponies.”
“He has been a bit grim lately. Although he actually smiled when he was invited as a personal guest for the Gala.”
Meanwhile
I knock out the guard that ‘escorted’ me begrudgingly as he preferred standing and doing nothing than walking an ape. I only grinned as I hit him the back of my gun. The clang of metal as I kept hitting him till his bruise was bleeding.
“Thanks again, see you in hell.”
I walk up to the giant golden doors. I wipe the blood on my face as a sort of smile like the Joker, and wiped the rest on the clothes made by the racist Rarity. I could hear the orchestra and laughter. I sigh as I grip the revolver close.
“Time to make an example of the Failure Six.” I said as I aimed up and shot at the hinges.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another round of ponies bowed in front of the Princesses as they went to enjoy the festivities.
“Luna where is Desmond?”
“He should be here. The Guard should have brought him by no—
The sickening crack as one of the doors fall from the hinges and onto the ground straight towards us.
“Luna!”
They casted a shield as the door just stopped at their feet. They looked up and saw a hunched over figure.
“Guards!”
They surrounded him only for the man to grab the spear and stab at them. One guard got too close and was slashed across the eye.
“Guards stand down!”
They ceased as they backed away and picked up their friend.
“Take him to the medical wing.”
“Yes Celestia.”
They stare back as it drew back his hair revealing Desmond.
“D-d-d-Desmond?!”
“Hello Princess, how do you like the entrance fitting for a barbaric brute right?” I grinned.
“Sir Desmond cease this we will go easy on you for the assault of…”
“ASSUALT?! You think I would do this for the attention? I have been assaulted and berated by your own subjects for a year and you never saw it?!”
“What?”
“Oh I guess your ponies are sneaks as well as liars.”
I take my hoodie to reveal the marks form other ponies. Bruises form rocks and punches, burns from spells, and even scratches from melee weapons.
There were gasps as the entire Gala looked pale from the site of the being having so many marks.
“Every… last… mark was made by your ponies. The same ones you taught friendship and harmony. And I’ve had enough.”
“Desmond please! Just tell me who did this! We can stop this without bloodshed.”
“Why don’t you ask your so-called student and her posse?”
She looked to see Twilight only look on in horror as her friends gagged. Pinkie’s mane deflated as Fluttershy and Rarity fainted. The rest, still as stone.
“You lied to me…”
“Desmond I…”
YOU LIED TO ME!!!”
She flinched back as guards readied themselves.
“I was told I would be accepted… no matter the difference, and if it wasn’t for Luna… I’d be dead a couple months ago.”
“Desmond!” The blue pony shouted as she tried to run to me.
CLICK
“That’s far enough.”
She bugs out at the sight, I’ve showed her this once before, the sound it made, and the power it could do scared her.
“I think this will be a Gala to really remember. The Monster is dead; the ponies will cheer!”
I point gun to my head as ponies tried to grab the weapon.
All that was heard was a bang across the Kingdom.
~~~~~~~~~
I gasp as I awoke with a start. I was still in my clothes, but on the ground, instead of my bed.
“Was it all a…” I gasp as I see my hand, it seemed to have shrunken down to the bone and was almost like jerky. It was pitch black wherever here was and grabbed my phone, it shone brightly as I checked the camera as I saw my face. It was the same as my hands as my eyes sunk back giving me a skull appearance and a large hole where black mist seemed to be leaving.
“So am in Hell?”
“Something much worse.” Another voice boomed.
I turned around and saw a giant cage. Inside was a red and black centaur.
“Who’re you?”
He grinned as he stood up on his weakened legs.
“I am known as Lord Tirek.”
“Desmond. So, where am I?”
“Tartarus. The one place where those that are sent for crimes beyond comprehension.”
“So what does that make me?”
“Well… aside from your scrawny body… you don’t look like you were banished here.”
“No shit. Killed myself with this.”
I pull out my gun that is somehow still with me.
“Do tell what has caused this much trouble?”
“Ponies.” I said with a bitter tone.
He growled in response at the name.
“So they got you too huh?” He then looked over and had a plan.
“I could help you know.”
I looked up in disbelief.
“What do you mean?”
“Well since you’re not traditionally banished here, you can open gates or doors that the prisoners of this world cannot do.”
I looked over my gun and then my hand. I was already dead, so helping this thing wasn’t going to be my problem.
“What do I get out of this?”
“You can have your chance at vengeance.”
I only laughed.
“Sorry pal, if you haven’t noticed I don’t even have magic so I’d die before I even tried to fight.”
Tirek paused as he scratched his chin in thought.
“I could give you some power. Enough dark magic that will grow the more your hate and anger does.”
“What’s the catch?”
“Just open the cage and the deal can be set.”
I then look over the door. It was inscribed with all sorts of symbols that glowed, but seemed faded. I slowly took a grip as the bars glowed brightly but all I felt was a small pinch. I pulled it open as the locks turned to dust. Tirek walked out as he took a large breath. He then laughed, and laughed as he took hold of me as we bounded out of the abyss. Each level was like Hell, torture, wandering souls, prisoners, but they all fled as they saw Tirek. They all even tried to hide.
‘He must be the top demon down here.’
“HAHAHAHA! We are almost there!” There was a bright flash as we hit a bright light. It blinded me before I could see what it was… the sun. We were out!
“Hmmm strange. Cerberus is missing.”
The blood, if any, drained form my face. Cerberus, the mythical guardian of the underworld. A giant dog with three heads. It keeps the souls of those passed or demonical from escaping. Him gone means something was up.
“This is even better. Let’s hurry before we are spotted.”
He galloped out until we hit a forest. It grew denser and denser as the canopy covered the sky.
“Now we can begin…”
“Begin wha…”
A dark orange beam was shot at me. It was burning my flesh as it kept pounding into me before he stopped and panted. A small mark appeared on my hand.

“There… the pack is made. You now have the same power as me.”
“I then look over to see my skin was fuller, but it was clay colored as if I was still dead.”
“What does it do?”
“You can absorb any creature’s natural magic.”
“Absorb? You mean take it away?”
“Yes, it leaves them helpless as the excuse for animals they are.”
I slowly grin as my eyes glowed for a second.
“Where to then milord?”
“First we find some ponies to strengthen ourselves, and then we go to the Princesses.”
I frown as to only one was my friend… but if this meant I could have my vengeance… so be it.
‘Sorry Luna, but I’m not going back down there.’
“Of course Lord Tirek.”
“Hmm I sense some ponies nearby, weak, but it’ll be a start.”
“Excellent.”
