The Dawn of a Future
Chapter 1: News Like Wildfire
Load Full StoryNext ChapterRainbow dash rolled out of bed and groggily hit her alarm clock snooze button. Of all the days in the world that it could be it had to be today, THE FIRST DAY OF A NEW SCHOOL. Sure it would be great and dandy if you could take the risk and say that it would be better if it were her old school, but nope, I would not go that far.
Rainbow Dash is a spunky, young 17 year old. She has a love of sports and rough housing and is thought of to some, by some I mean almost all, as a tomboy. Some people may even agree to disagree that she is a lesbian. She is currently going through the transition between high school and college alongside her five best friends; Applejack, Twilight, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, and Rarity. She had practically survived middle school with Applejack and high school with Twilight and Applejack, but the others were there pretty much every step of the way.
She has friends outside of her little tight best friend group, one being a diehard named Thunderlane. She mostly only made friends with the people on her sports teams, but associates herself with people of all kinds. Dash is obsessed with the Wonderbolts and has personally met with the lead squad on several occasions. Soarin was the strongest, Spitfire is the smartest and can jump to death defying heights, and Fleetfoot is the fastest and most agile. Squads usually consist of four people, but the lead squad had a few… issues with their fourth member, whom we shall not refer to by name in the presence of the lead squad.
Rainbow went to the bathroom to get all cleaned up and stared wide eyed at the mirror. She had one of the worst cases of bed head in the history of bed head. Rarity would kill her if she saw how ‘terrifying’ she looked. Rainbow rolled her eyes at the thought of her fashionista friend.
Rarity was prissier than anybody Rainbow had ever know. She was known to the girls as the adult of the group, but that doesn't mean that she's the most mature. Rarity is a flirt, she likes to have fun with guys in the most refined way possible. The one misconception with that portion of the description, RARITY IS NOT A SLUT! Sure you’d think that, but she only likes to use her beauty and ‘perfection’ as a way to draw men's attention to her and uses her ladylike charm to get boys to do what she wants.
Applejack was by far Rainbow's best friend. She had known her since like 5th grade and the rest is history. She was a tall and leaner type of girl, but she has muscle. Applejack is the most mature and motherly of the whole entire group. She always has a plan and the beauty of Applejack is that she always just knows. Since losing her parents at the young age of 10 she had to grow up pretty quickly unlike her brother and sister.
Pinkie Pie is so, out there. She a party girl who enjoys people, fun things, and, you guessed it, parties. She is super crazy and unpredictable and you just have to love being around her. Pinkie has a strange ability that compels her to have a tendency to make people smile. She is extremely dedicated to her friend and would even give up everything for them. Dash has know Pinkie for a few years now and spends a lot of time with her.
Twilight is a nerd and that is all that needs to be said. She is a bookworm and loves math and science, may as well be Albert Einstein. She is a love able, dorky sweetheart with a big heart. She is one of Dash’s longest known friends and she, Twilight, and Applejack may as well be sisters ‘cause, damn, they know everything about each other. Twilight is the smartest problem solver in history and can have straight A+’s on a report card, she definitely has the highest I.Q. out of everyone.
Fluttershy is the sweetest and shyest friend ever. She is a great person and always finds that small corner in your heart. She loves animal, has a caring personality, and will take care of any creature from a gnat to a human. She hates watching people get hurt and is surprisingly the oldest of the group. Unfortunately, she shy has its downsides and Fluttershy is often the bullies victim. Fortunately for her, and unfortunately for the bullies, she has Dash on her side.
Rainbow jumped out of the shower, dried off her hair, and wrapped a towel around herself. At her vanity she brushed her teeth and hair putting it up in her signature ponytail. She stepped into her closet and picked out her outfit. She wore a blue sports jacket, over a white shirt with a rainbow on it, fitted blue jeans that went down to her ankle, blue high tops with white laces, and a black choker.
She ran down the stairs and grabbed her bag which she packed the night before, just to be prepared, grabbed a muffin and gulped that and some orange juice down quickly. She ran out the door hopped on her scooter and drove away.
As she drove, she thought about her new school. Would their be a lot of bullies? Are the people friendly? Are there any monotone teachers? (Oddly specific, I am aware.) Stupid boys chasing girls? Probably. Hard ass Principle? Probably not.
The ride to school took shorter than she expected and it was easy access. There was at least one good part about the school, but I bet they won't be getting many more. She took a look at the school and nodded, it was pretty decent not your everyday pris- I mean school. Dammit, that's 2. Anyway as she walked up to the entrance a pair of pink arms found their way around her torso.
“Dashie!” Pinkie Pie exclaimed, quite obviously excited to see her rainbow haired friend.
“Hey Pinkie,” Rainbow said, coolly. “Air… Please!”
“Oopsie!” Pinkie list her go and Rainbow began wheezing “It just feels like I haven't seen you in like, a million years!”
“Pinks,” Rainbow said, raising an eyebrow at her party obsessive friend “I saw you last week.”
“I know,” Pinkie pouted “but a week is a long time to be away from a bestie!”
“No,” Rainbow shook her head “I literally say you on Saturday.”
“A couple of days is still a long time in the bestie world!” Her pout remained, but her eyes were beady like they were trying to drill a deep hole into Dash’s heart.
“Yeah, sure let's go find the others,” Rainbow offered.
“Ok!” Pinkie’s expression disappeared and was replaced by a more welcoming smile. “Let's get moving on the Pinkie express!” Pinkie sat down and pulled a fake string, “Choo, Choo!” Pinkie started moving.
Rainbow chuckled as she pulled Pinke across the floor all the was to the main hallway. The walls were an off-white color and the floors had a blue stained hue to it, but the real eye catchers were the lockers. They were completely personalized and had you name on it.
On the opposite side of were Rainbow and Pinkie were standing, there was a group of girls talking and laughing together. The two girls walked over…
“Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash!” Rarity squealed in excitement “I haven't seen either of you in a month.”
“You either Rares,” Rainbow blinked twice before shaking her head.
“Did you have fun on your cruise?” Pinkie Pie began jumping up and down.
“Oh yeah, that's where you went!” Rainbow nodded, understanding where she went on her vacation spot.
“It was simply divine,” Rarity looked at the other 3 girls. “It would have even better if my sister would've left me so I could have some time to myself, but I did find a handsome boy to spend time with.”
“Yer sendin’ me mixed signals here, Rare,” Applejack finally spoke up “You wanted to be left alone, but you spent her time with a ‘handsome’ boy?” She raised an eyebrow and had a look of pure confusion on her face.
“Who was it, your dad?” Rainbow bursts do out laughing at her own joke and Pinkie soon joined in both of them clutching their sides and wheezing from the lack out air.
“Rainbow, Pinkie!” Twilight’s voice of authority brought them back to the painful sense of reality “We should not be laughing at our dear friends expense! Now, Rarity you may continue.”
“Thank you Twilight,” Rarity cleared her throat “As I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted…” She shot a glare over she shoulder as she turned back around to dramatically face the group “His name was somewhere along the lines of Moonlight, something that I can not think of right now, but my point is that overall he was a nice boy and I had a nice vacation. Next!”
“How about you Applejack?” Fluttershy asked her blonde haired friend.
“Oh, me?” Applejack asked an innocent looking Fluttershy “I had plenty of fun doing chores on farm work the whole entire summer, alone.” She said sarcastically as she raised an eyebrow.
“Oh, sorry,” Fluttershy apologized.
“There's no point, I should’ve probably done a lot of work anyway. Movin’ out here in the new apartment and Hollow Shade.” She shrugged her shoulders and smiled “Twi?”
“I went to a cabin in the woods with my parents for a few weeks,” Twilight shook her head and giggled “I thought I’d hate it, but it was actually a lot of fun!!” Twilight looked at Pinkie “How about you Pinkie?”
“I went home to see my parents, planned a few parties along the way…” She stopped and grabbed onto her face, her eyes literally bulging out of their sockets “And by a few I, mean a lot of parties! Hung out with my friends and even had time to come home and make a few new recipes!”
“Speaking of baking,” Twilight started, “How's the new bakery?”
“It's holding on and soaring high above the clouds,” Pinkie started to drool while sticking her tongue out “We sell pastries that no shop has ever thought of before!”
“I had a good summer,” Fluttershy chimed in, with her tiny voice “I mostly spent time with the animals at the sanctuary and things like that.”
“That sounds nice, but I went to see a few Wonderbolt shows in Cloudsdale and got to see the lead squad again only for something else to go wrong,” She slapped her forehead and groaned “I think I’m a decoy for trouble!” She screamed, throwing her arms out to express her anger “Nothing like this has ever happened to them until they met me! Well at least that's what Fleetfoot said before Spitfire slapped her over the head, that is.”
“I don't think you're a decoy for trouble,” everyone turned to stare at Fluttershy “If it helps.”
“I don't think it does,” Twilight whispered into Applejack's ear, who rolled her eyes.
“I’m gonna go see if I can find Thunderlane,” Rainbow said before walking off “See ya later!”
“Bye!”
“Something's not right in the girl's head,” Applejack tapped her chin.
“Tell me about it, darling,” Rarity sighed.
“Says you, drama queen,” Applejack crossed her arms.
“Says the girl who over reacted about farm work,” Rarity shot back.
“Here we go again,” Twilight sighed as she watched as her friends continued to bicker, her voice of reason doing nothing against the two.
Rainbow looked around, Thunderlane she thought Shouldn't be to hard to find. As she walked she saw a lot of different looking people, not to point out the obvious. There was this one very tall and muscular guy and this one shorter girl. She wasn’t really looking where she was going and bumped into someone.
“Oh, sorry I wasn’t really looking where I was going,” Dash said slightly embarrassed.
“No, I should have been watching where I was going,” The stranger said, offering his hand. She accepted it and got up.
Rainbow looked him in his eyes and gasped. He had emerald green eyes, wonderbolt style navy blue hair, and a light skin hue. She gave him a long hard stare in disbelief and excitement.
“Soarin?!”
“Dash?”
