Chapter 2: Love, no Like
“What are you doing here?” Rainbow asked him excitedly, she felt so close that she wanted to give him a hug, but she held onto her restraint.
“It’s a bit of a surprise,” Soarin chuckled “But I have to tell you something, don’t I?”
“That would help your case,” She playfully jabbed him in the ribs “Yeah.”
“You’ll be seeing a lot more of me,” He smiled and winked at her.
“You’re an idiot,” She said plainly, crossing her arms and huffing.
“So you go here?” Soarin asked.
“Isn’t that obvious?” She rolled her eyes, keeping her arms crossed.
“Yes, but I was trying to come up with a normal conversation, Ms. Sassy Pants,” He mocked her stance, rolling his eyes and crossing his arms.
“When have your conversations ever been normal?” She raised an eyebrow.
“How did you go from excited to see me," He did jazz hands “To sassing me into a corner?” He mock crossed his arms.
“Because you’re an idiot,” Rainbow shot back.
“Who’s running out of comebacks?” Soarin smirked.
“Shut it!” Rainbow snapped at him, “and for your information, dork, I have a lot more comeback.”
“I bet you do,” He started, “but I’ll save you the trouble and just agree.”
“Wait,” Soarin stopped and looked at Dash as she spoke, “if you’re here then that means…”
“Hey, Soarin?” A voice asked from behind the young man “Fleet and I have been looking for you. Are you coming to the gym or wha-” She turned and looked at Dash “Is that Rainbow Dash.”
“Interrupting Spitty says what?” Another voice asked sarcastically.
“Fleet?” Soarin raised an eyebrow at her, “You’re kind of interrupting too.”
“Well at least I didn’t interrupt ‘sexy time with Dashie,’” Fleetfoot shot back in a playfully cute voice “Dickward!”
“Fleetfoot, shut up,” Spitfire muttered. “Anyway back to you Rainbow Dash,” She looked the young athlete's way “I didn’t know you went here.”
“Look at you,” Fleetfoot sniffled, dramatically “my little Dashie, growing up before my eyes.”
“Fleet, you’re not that much older than her,” Soarin rolled his eyes.
“Well, she’s growing up and right in front of me,” Fleetfoot stuck her tongue out “This is sisterly love right here, Soar, thank you very much.”
“Sometimes I wonder about you, Fleet,” Spitfire shook her head and sighed, “well, we’re heading to the gym, Soarin, catch up with your friend and then meet us there.”
“Ok, Spitfire,” Soarin turned back to Dash, “well my squad needs me. I’ll catch you later.”
“See ya, Soarin.” Rainbow waved at him.
“See you later, Dash.” He turned and walked the other way.
Rainbow walked around to see if she could find Thunderlane. She thought about the lead squad Wonderbolts.
Spitfire is the captain and by far the most well known. She is often very stressed, because she is the captain of one of the most well known aerial flight teams in the world. She has a can do attitude and has maximum faith in her team. She is often the voice of reason, but has a problem with keeping things bottled up inside. While she thinks it is helpful, since her team doesn’t know about her problems, but honestly it just makes her friends worry about her. She is also the youngest Wonderbolt captain in history.
Soarin is a very easy person to talk to and a good friend. He is kind of a goof and when it comes to lightening up the mood he is the first to turn. He is the best friend of Spitfire and is often the one to talk some sense into her. He and Fleetfoot connect in a different way. He likes to have fun, but also takes his job very seriously. Since, his job is practically his life he is very dedicated to his friends as well. He gets a lot of public attention, but unlike Fleetfoot he isn’t that much of a public icon so he usually shrugs of his attention.
Fleetfoot is the exact contrast to Spitfire. She loves to chill and relax and doesn’t take her job as seriously as Soarin and Spitfire do, but she is still dedicated. She loves to have fun and tease people. She is in love with romance and is the most social Wonderbolt ever. She loves children and is a Wonderbolt icon, she is on many magazine covers and is pretty much always on the front cover page of sports magazines. She has a lovable personality, but can also be creepy as hell, so that’s one of her flaws.
Rainbow turned and finally spotted Thunderlane. She walked over to him and tapped him on the shoulder. He flinched so hard Dash was surprised that he didn’t knock over the building. He turned around and his widened eyes went back to normal.
“Rainbow,” He said carefully, “you almost gave me a heart attack, what do you have to say for yourself?”
“It’s nice to see you too. Thunderlane.” Rainbow rolled her eyes.
“Not quite the answer I was looking for, but we’ll work on that,” Thunderlane smirked.
“What did you even do this summer?” Rainbow asked.
Thunderlane raised an eyebrow, “My parents went on a cruise, so my brother and I went to Cloudsdale.” Thunderlane looked back at Rainbow, “how were the Wonderbolts?”
“They were fun and I had a pretty good time!” Rainbow said as cheerfully as possible, she decided not to tell him about the whole ‘I think I’m a decoy for trouble’ thing.
“Hey, Rainbow you’re gonna be late to class on your first day if you don’t hurry up.” Applejack’s voiced snapped at her from behind. “Oh, hi, Thunderlane.” Applejack waved at him and he waved back, blushing slightly. As Applejack began pulling Rainbow Dash along with her.
“Ok, ok, I’m coming!” Rainbow struggled in Applejack grip, but she finally let her go and Rainbow looked at Thunderlane one more time. How he looked at Applejack? She shook of the thoughts and regained her position by Applejack's side.
“Are ya nervous?” Applejack asked Rainbow, nudging her in the ribs.
“Me, nervous? Let me think about it.” She tapped her chin in thought “Nah, you?”
“Not really, ah left the girls ta go socialize and the people seemed pretty nice,” Applejack answered, but asked Rainbow curiously, “Did Thunderlane seem a bit off to you?”
“Yeah, he did.” Rainbow thought, “I wonder, could he…” She gasped.
(At Lunch)
Rainbow Dash finally found the lunchroom after wandering aimlessly for about five minutes, she had sucked up her pride and asked a random teacher where it was. She walked in and looked around to see if she could find any of her friends and out of the corner of her eye she spotted Pinkie Pie. She stepped into line and since the line was pretty long she decided talk to someone. She tapped the boy in front of her on the shoulder. He turned around and faced Dash. He had ombré sky blue and white hair, he wore jeans, blue shirt and white jacket, and had an unusual eye color it was an icy, silver color.
“Oh, hello,” He greeted in a friendly manner “my name is Last Legacy and yours is?”
“Rainbow Dash,” Rainbow reached out her hand and he shook it, “you seem like a nice guy. Where are you from.”
“I just moved here from Cloudsdale,” He said looking at Dash, “How about you?”
“Moved here from Ponyville, with my friends,” She smiled, “Although, I am originally from Cloudsdale.”
“Seriously?” He asked in awe.
“Yep!” Rainbow replied and thought for a moment, “Though I wasn’t there for a very long time.”
“Wow,” he blinked, “So you and your friends have been connected this whole time?”
“Yeah, we’re a really close close group.” She smiled at him.
Neither of them had realized that they were now at the front of the line and had been talking for a long time.
“Well, it was nice meeting you Rainbow Dash.” He said politely, “I will see you soon and I think you would like to know that you are my first friend here.”
“Seriously?” He only nodded in response, “Shit, with your personality I thought you’d have a lot of friends.”
“Well, I have spoken to many people today, but you’re the first one that I have really connected with.” He bowed playfully “It has been my pleasure to be of service to you Madomazell Rainbow Dash, I hope to meet you again soon.”
Rainbow rolled her eyes, but played along, “The pleasure is mine good sir, I hope we meet again.” Rainbow went back to her normal state, “Jerk!”
“Bye, Rainbow Dash.” He walked away to his table and Rainbow walked over to hers.
By now all of her friends were sitting there, eating and waiting for her.
“Hello, darling!” Rarity greeted and scooted over so that she could sit beside her, “Who were you talking to up there?”
“That was my new friend,” She said sitting down in between Rarity and Twilight, “his name is Last Legacy and he moved here from Cloudsdale.”
“Is he single?” Rarity asked as she gazed at him with a dreamy look in her eyes.
“Um, maybe.” Rainbow answered, shrugging her shoulders.
“He is kind of cute,” Twilight blushed.
“Um, ok,” Rainbow looked at him and shrugged her shoulders.
“So, how's everybody’s day been so far?” Pinkie Pie asked, breaking the ice.
“My day has been going well,” Fluttershy smiled, “I made a new friend in my history class, she’s so sweet and caring, it’s hard not to like her!” She ended with a delightful little clap.
“In my literature class I sit by a boy named,” Applejack tapped her chin in thought, “I think it was something like Spectrum and he is… strange.”
“Strange, how?” Rarity asked snapping out of her daze.
“He kept glancing at me, as if he was trying to make sure I was still there and then whenever I looked at him he would look away. When I asked him a question he sat there and groaned.” Applejack explained and you could kind of tell that this was bothering her.
“That doesn't sound like he was a very friendly person,” Pinkie contemplated.
“Maybe he was just shy,” Fluttershy added.
“It doesn't really matter much now,” Applejack stifled a groan, “How about you Rainbow?”
The girls spent the rest of the lunch periods talking about their day so far and eventually the bell rang and the girls all went their separate ways. All except Applejack and Rainbow Dash who both looked at each other and muttered one simple word…
“Gym.”
“Ready to make your big debut, Soarin?” Fleetfoot asked, giggling to herself.
The lead squad was in the coach’s room getting ready to talk to the next gym class.
“Fleet,” Soarin began, “it isn't like it’s gonna be a huge scene kind of thing.”
“I know,” Fleetfoot jumped on Spitfire’s desk, “but this is gonna change somebody's life, Soarin, be happy.”
“I never said that I wasn't happy,” Soarin smiled, “I am, but I’m nowhere near as excited as you are.”
“You’ve got that right, wise guy.”
About five minutes after their conversation everybody arrived and was awaiting the coach’s arrival. Spitfire stepped up to the door, but she was cut off when Fleetfoot stopped her.
“Let me handle this,” Fleetfoot opened the door and everybody gasped, “Hi everyone, my name is Fleetfoot and in case you don’t know me I am the third-in-command on the lead squad of the Wonderbolts, that’s Spitfire and she’s the captain, and that’s Soarin and he’s the second-in-command. You are all probably wondering,” she paused and looked at their anxious face “why I don’t have have the Wonderbolt hairstyle!” Spitfire stifled a groan and Soarin chuckled. “I’ll tell you why, BECAUSE IT’S MY OWN DAMN DECISION. I don’t care what these guys say, I like my hair.” She finished with a cute hair flip.
Spitfire walked over, with Soarin close behind her, and pushed Fleetfoot out of the way. Fleetfoot giggled and stood beside Soarin.
“You are all probably wondering where you coach is, right?” She saw a few nods. “Well what would you say if I told you that you’re looking at them right now?”
“Holy crap!” Rainbow whispered to herself.
