The Friendship Games
Chapter 4: Motivation
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe students of the school gathered into the gym as an announcement made by Principal Celestia. She got onto the stage and spoke to the students, trying to cheer them up.
“As I am sure you all know, tomorrow, Canterlot High School will be hosting our fellow students from Crystal Prep Academy as we join together in the spirit of excellence, sportsmanship, and fidelity to compete in the Friendship Games.” the students cheered and applauded sarcastically in response. “Since the games only happen every four years, I'm sure you're all curious what goes on.”
“You mean other than us losing?!” Flash shouted as Celestia and Luna gave looks of slight annoyance.
“And that is exactly why I've asked Rainbow Dash to come up and give you all a little, um... context.”
“Thank you, Principal Celestia. I know a lot of you might think there's no way we can beat a fancy school like Crystal Prep at anything.”
“Unless it's a ‘losing to Crystal Prep’ competition! 'Cause we're really good at that!”
“And I know that CHS has never won the Friendship Games even once.”
“Oh, dear. I hope this speech isn't meant to be motivational.”
“You never know. Maybe it’s a recap THEN a motivation speech.”

The students cheered with their spirits held high, thanks to the motivation from Rainbow. After they finished, she went backstage to see Danto leaning on the wall, smiling.
“My girl still knows how to motivate a crowd.”
“Well, I did it with a bit of help from the band. And you for getting this set up.” Danto chuckled a small bit before walking up to Rainbow and giving her a quick kiss.
“It’s what boyfriends do. Help out their girlfriends with anything as much as they can.” Rainbow blushed a small bit in response to both the comment and the kiss.
“You could just say ‘I love you,’ right?”
“Where’s the fun in saying straight out when you can go around then come back to it?”
“Are we interrupting a loving moment with you two?”
“A little but we already covered the ‘ILY.’ So, what did you think?”
“That was amazing! Even I feel like we can win!”
“I feel like my school pride is at an all-time high!”
“Is anybody else wonderin' how Dash ponied up without playin' her guitar?”
“I know, right? It's probably because I'm so awesome!”
Danto coughed, “Or love.”
“What was that?”
“Nothing.”
“Maybe. I mean, you are awesome and maybe it could also be love, but there's gotta be more to it than that, right? It just seems so random.”
“Well, it would be nice if you all could get a handle on it. We'd like to keep magic as far away from the Friendship Games as possible. We don't want to be accused of cheating.”
“We don't need magic to defeat those hoity-toity Crystal Preppers.” everyone agreed with Rarity as she giggled, knowing she was right.
“On the plus side, we’ll be trying to inform on anything more that pops up.” Elu said as his phone buzz and he checked it, “Huh. Lunch is cancelled due to the games. I can see why.”
“Still, the Friendship Games are serious business. We don't want any surprises. Especially the kind that could cause us to forfeit. Sunset Shimmer, you came here from a world of magic. Perhaps you can get to the bottom of our magical development.”
“I'll do my best.”
“Okay. Anybody have any guesses what the events are gonna be?”
“Pie eating? Cake eating?” Pinkie gasped as she then slammed the pie and cake together as the frosting and insides of the pie splattered in the area, “Pie-cake eating?!” Applejack wiped a small bit of frosting from her nose before speaking.
“They won't even let us see what they're doin' to the field. You think they'd at least tell competitors what they're competing in.”
“It could be anything.”
“Anything?! How will I ever pick the right outfit?!”
“I really wanna help, but I think I better go focus on figuring out why Rainbow Dash ponied up. See ya later!”
“Seems like she's got everything under control. Nothing to worry about.” Danto nudged Aldon as he turned to look at him. Danto make a ‘shoo’ motion as Aldon got the message.
“Sunset, wait up!” he went out the doors, trying to catch up with Sunset.
“Are y'all tryin’ to get Aldon and Sunset together?”
“I mean, you DID see him stay behind earlier this morning, remember?” Pinkie gasped then having a large smile on her face.
“We should definitely get them together!”
“Easy, look. We’re giving them a small push, no need for shoving just yet. We’ll have to see how they'll play it out.”
“Well, what are we going to do to pass the time until then?”
“How about we practice once their done? That or play without them considering we have doubles on drums and guitars.”
“Sounds good, let’s go.” They all started heading to the music room, planning on practicing while Aldon and Sunset we’re trying to figure out how Rainbow Dash ‘ponied up’ without playing her guitar.
