The language of bones
(chapter 4) case: postmortem problems
Previous ChapterNext ChapterI wake up, groggy and a strange taste in my mouth. I sit up and push the blanket aside. I get off the bed and start to make it, then stop once I realize there is one more body in my bed than there should be. I groan recalling the previous night's event. Weather the groan was from annoyance or remaining euphoria, I don't have the answer to.
I finish making my side of the bed then walk out into the hallway. I open up the hallway closet and grab a towel. I close the closet door then walk back into my room. Looking at Silver for a moment i decide that it would be best to leave him asleep. Walking into the bathroom connected to my bedroom I close the door and turn the shower on. Waiting for it to warm up I walk over to the mirror. Looking at myself, I feel disgraced. My mane is sticking up and completely messy. Before I can make anymore criticism against my looks, I notice the mirror beginning to fog up. I quickly get back to the shower and adjust the temperature just a little bit more. I step in and close the curtain. Emediatly slipping on a bar of soap and slamming down on my back.
"Good friggin job, Andreah. Give yourself fricken Back problems, why dontcha?" I say to myself as I get up. Not five seconds later do I hear Silver knocking on the door.
"You alright, Andreah?" He shouts through the door.
"Yeah! I'm fine, I just slipped." I shout back.
"Okay..." He responds.
I finish my shower in piece and manage not to hurt myself again. I step out and dry off. I manage to get my blood red mane to calm down, but let it do it's own thing. Looking in the mirror, I see it straight down all around the back of my head, but it parting at the base of my right ear, leaving that ear exposed while my left one is covered. I hate it, but it has a mind of its own, hair jel has no effect on this tarterus of a mane.
Sighing, I walk out of the bathroom with the towel draped over my back. Once I get into the bedroom I notice Silver asleep, again. I giggle a little, then notice the phone ringing in the living room. I trot out of the bedroom, tossing my towel in the hamper as I leave.
I get to the table and pick up the hoofset.
"Hello?" I speak into it.
"Hello? Miss Reigns?" I hear a youngish voice respond.
"Wires! Hello. Sorry I'm late. Didn't realize I'd slept in." I lie, knowing perfectly well of the time.
"I'm not calling about your tardiness Miss Reigns. I'm calling saying I've identified the remains, and know why he has so many bone spurs and chips." He informs me.
"Great! I'll be in as soon as possible!" I say. Placing the hoofset down without saying goodbye, I then trot back into my room. I grab my black trench coat, being cautious when putting my wings through it, then run over to Silver. I shake him awake.
"Hmm?" He groans waking up.
"Get the hell up! I'm going to work. You better too!" I demand, then leave the bedroom. Throwing together a quick piece of toast, I run out the door.
"Okay, so his name is polished shield, and he worked for the Royal guard. He was a trainer, meaning he got hit a lot. So that explained the spurs and chips, but what I don't get, is the way he died." He tells me, pointing to the remains laid out on the table.
"So that spearhead was cause of death?" I ask. Looking at the remains on the table in front of me.
"Yes. But it's registered to the guard armory. We don't have records of the weapons in our archive. We're gonna need access to the Royal guard's archives." He tells me, and before I can say anything he speaks again. "You know Princess Celestia personally, right?" He asks.
"Yes..." I tell him, beginning to piece together what he's getting at.
"You think you can pull some strings? Get me, Silver, and yourself in? Because RCIS's authority is just under theirs, so we can't just walk in." He says.
"I'll see what I can do. But in the mean time, I need you to go back to the scene and skim the dirt. See if there's any more evidence, like the spear stick or something. Ok?" I ask him.
"Will do, Miss Reigns. Good luck with Celestia." He says, then runs out the door, almost knocking Silver over as he walks in.
"Look who's back from the dead." I say to Silver as he walks over to me.
"Hey, what can I say? You tired me out from last night." He says, smirking. "So what? We coltfriend/marefriend now?" He asks me, inching closer
"Woah, hold your cattle now, let me think 'bout that." I tell him.
'what are you doing Andreah?' I repremand myself. 'couple weeks ago, you couldn't fathom the thought of him taking you to dinner. Now you've slept with him a couple times and about to agree to a relationship.' I continue.
"Andreah! Equestria to Andreah! Hello?" Silver yells, snapping me out of my thought process.
"O-oh. Sorry. J-just spaced out, that's all." I lie. Sighing I walk over to my desk and pick up the paper with the serial code on it. I examine it for a minute then take it over to my saddle bags. Placing inside the left bad, I then proceeded to put on the bags. I walk back over to Silver.
"I need to go talk to Celestia, see if I can get into the Royal armory archives. See who was issued that spearhead we have." I tell him. "Care to come?' I ask him.
"No, I can't, I have some paperwork to catch up on." He says, sadness in his voice. I give him a quick kiss then walk over to the door.
"Your sure we're not..."
"I'll think about it, Mr. Colt!"
Author's Note
This one was badly written, I realize. But, honestly, I have no other way I'd write it, I like the way it develops in this chapter
