The language of bones
(chapter 5) case: postmortem problems
Previous ChapterNext Chapter"How in the name of Celestia, am I supposed to convince Celestia to let me in!?" I shout across the room at Silver.
"No need to shout! I'm not that far away." He says. In his chair, all the way across the room. He starts to move the rollie chair.
"Do not! Move! From the X!" I yell at him. He then repositions the chair onto the white X I have taped onto the floor. I made sure to put the X in a corner to make sure he stays there. I put they X there to keep him from moving around my office without my permission.
"Come on mom! I'm not a child any more!" He whines.
"Than stop friggan acting like one and help me find out how to get Celestia to let me into their archive!" I yell again.
"Well, if I can move, than I could help you." He says, slyly, knowing he's got me.
"Fine! Just behave yourself." I tell him, watching him roll the chair over beside me. His horn glowing a magnificent silver, he levitates over a paper and quill. I watch him set the paper on my desk and start writing. After he finishes he hooves me the paper.
"She's not all that hard to deal with you know. Just ask nicely." He says, adding a big smile at the end of his sentence. I roll my eyes and read what he wrote out loud.
" 'Dear princess Celestia. Silver and I have recently come to find that we need access to the Royal Archives. It's imperative to our investigating. If you so desire more information, I am available at any time. Due to the fact I can't continue the investigation without access to said archives. Sincerely, Andreah Reigns.' " I read "you know, you make me sound like a total asshole. I'm not an asshole." I tell him.
"Debatable." He says.
"Just fuckin' shut up and go deliver this." I tell him, rolling the paper up and hoofing it to him.

"The princess wishes to see you in the throne room." One of the security guards in my building tells me. Nodding, I grab my black trench coat. Carefully putting my wings through it, then exiting my office. I exit the building then stretch my wings. Giving one push I'm in the air. Now to make my way towards the palace.
"Name?" A Royal Guardsman outside the throne room doors asks.
"Andreah Reigns. Or Dr. Reigns." I tell him. Nodding, he opens the giant doors to the throne room. Or, more accurately, the throne hallway. For it is longer then it is wide.
Walking down the throne hallway, I see Celestia sitting on the throne. With Princess Luna just below her. I walk up to the foot of the throne and bow.
"Princess Luna." I say, standing up I look at Celestia. "You requested me?"
"Yes, Dr. Reigns. I requested your presence regarding your letter." She says, holding the letter in the air with a golden glow.
"Yes, yes." I say. "I must sincerely apologise for that. I didn't write that letter. Silver did. I'm sorry for the disrespect conveyed in th--"
"It is quite fine." She interjects with a giggle. "I suspected so. You write quite differently." She tells me.
"I.... Guess?" I say, unsure of what else to say.
"I called to here to grant both you, and that silly partner of yours, access to the archives. Full clearance. Both of you. This way you may enter for other cases as well." She informs me.
"T-thank you princess!" I say, giving her an excited bow.
"I told you, Doctor, no bowing." She demands.
"Than it is for princess Luna." I say, standing up from the bow.
"Ah, why thank you. Miss Reigns." She says. "And, Miss Reigns?"
"Yes princess?" I respond, cocking my head towards her.
"May I speak to you in the library?" She asks.
"Of course." I tell her.
"Great! See you there!" She says, clopping her front hooves together, then disappearing in a flash of purple light. A couple of seconds of being dumbfounded, I look towards Celestia.
"Before you go. Take these." She says, levitating two small strips of metal over to me. After they land in my hoof, i look at them and see they read 'full clearance: Royal archive'.
"They go in your bifold badge holder. One for you, one for Silver." She says.
"Thank you, princess." I say.
"Your quite welcome. Now hurry along, Luna's waiting. I'll send a guard to help you over to the library." She tells me. I thank her again then walk out of the throne hallway.
After tons of twists and turns and retrospect on my life choices, I make it to the library. Walking in I wave the guard away and walk over to Luna, who is sitting at one of the tables.
"Ah! Miss Reigns! You made it!" She shouts exidedly.
"Yea, after having to follow a guard who was very obviously hitting on me. Anyway, please, just call me Andreah. 'Miss Reigns' is way too formal." I tell her.
"I can can you that. And that guard was taking a liking to you hmmm?" Luna asks.
"Yes. He was." I say, red rising to my cheeks. "W-what is it you need?" I ask, quickly changing the subject.
"Oh, right, yes." She remembers. "Do you deal with disappearances?" She asks me, getting closer to my face.
"U-um. I-i don't, but my partner, Silver does. But if you want me to handle something, I could help." I tell her, nervously, because she gets closer to me.
"One of my Bat-ponies has gone missing. His name is polished shield. Please find h-him.... What?" She asks, noticing the sadness in my face.
"Princess Luna, Polished was the reason I was called in in the first place. His remains where found in the basement of a Royal Guardsman's house. He was killed by a spear." I tell her. Suddenly I feel two forelegs wrap around my neck, the sound of sobbing followed.
"It's alright, it's alright." I comfort her. "Silver and I will get the bastard who did this."
