Chapter 3: The Note

Rarity approaches Twilight and rubs the sobbing unicorn's back, "I cannot believe that this pony would do such a thing." Twilight turns to Rarity, "Why did you have to be right? Rarity looks at Twilight in a confused state, "What ever do you mean sweetie?" "You knew that there would be more, murders. Why did you just have to be right?" Twilight looks at Rarity, still crying, "Oh sweetie, I was just... just guessing really. I wasn't hoping that there would be more, and I especially didn't want dear Diamond Tiara to fall victim to all this." Twilight stops crying and gets up, and wipes a tear away from her cheek with her hoof. "Let's just get to work, we'll talk later." Twilight tells Rarity to go look around for weapons and hoof prints. Meanwhile Twilight looks at the riddle and code. She reads the riddle, although this times she thinks it may actually be a message. "I realize that every month is harsh, especially with this one, she put up a good fight, it was hard to keep her quiet. Anyway, I'll give you ponies more lee-way time to think, no more dead ponies for a while..." then she reads the code, it's a scramble, "het tlerte" Twilight gets angry at the what she is reading and screams at the top of her lungs and hits the back of the school house as hard as she could. Rarity calls twilight over, as twilight approaches Rarity says, "Twilight darling there's a problem, this young pony has been dead for at least two days now, she's too cold to be a fresh kill, I haven't the slightest idea as to why nopony noticed."

The next day Twilight and Rarity go to Cheerilee's house. They knock on the door when Cheerilee calls out them,"I'll be there in a minute!" When Cheerilee answers the door she invites them in, Twilight refuses,"It's okay, we just need to ask about Diamond Tiara's attendance for the last month." Cheerilee understands why, "She hasn't been in school for a week." Twilight and Rarity thank Cheerilee. As they walk away Rarity says to Twilight, "I think we should go talk to Diamond Tiara's parents, see if she went missing or something." Twilight agrees and they head towards Diamonds Tiara's home. When they get there Diamond Tiara's parents open the door as if they had been expecting them. Diamond Tiara's mom storms away and starts to cry, meanwhile her father asks, "What do you need to know?" Twilight chokes up for a second, not expecting to hear that, "Well, we need to know if your daughter had been missing for the last week, or anytime after that?" Diamond Tiara's father looks down, obviously choking down tears, "We haven't seen our daughter in three days." Twilight then asks, "Was she at a friend's house or something? "The last place that we knew she was at was the school house." Twilight thanks the parents and leaves with Rarity. They return to Cheerilee's house and ask her one last question, "Cheerilee did you see Diamond Tiara go anywhere, or leave with anyone about three days ago?" "No, she started walking home, the same as any other day." "Okay thank you Mrs. Cheerliee" Twilight says with a smile as she waves goodbye to Cheerilee.

About three months roll by,Twilight and Rarity are in the library discussing the clues for the hundredth time, as if it would make a difference. "It was the weekend so nopony saw the body, and we don't know when the next slaying slaying is, the word scramble said "The Letter" I haven't the slightest idea what it means." "Also, the body is exactly like Pinkie's, with the eyes, heart, and stomach missing." At this moment Spike runs in holding a letter, "It's from Princess Celestia!" Twilight says holding the letter with her magic. "She says she needs to see us now!"
