Chapters The Legends of the Everfree: The Myrkur
Passage from The Legends of the Everfree Vol. 2
Darkness, there are many legends associated with darkness. Most of them involve the creature being made entirely of dark magic, or something of a similar nature. However there is one worth noting, the legend of the Myrkur. Vague is one word to describe the Myrkur's legend, as very few ponies seem to know it, but a conversation with one of Ponyville's oldest residence blew away some of the fog surrounding this legend. Granny Smith, as she is most commonly known, told us that this Myrkur was something is old as the forest itself.
The Myrkur is apparently a shape shifting beast, and it has total control over the Everfree's weather, shadows, and chaotic magic. It apparently appeared shortly after the defeat of Nightmare Moon, and it supposedly attacked several *'caravans' before disappearing for decades. The funny thing about this creature, is it only shows itself to creatures or ponies affiliated with the moon, the Elements of Harmony or Luna. These ponies seem to be the only ones untouched in the Myrkur's **'attacks', and they walk away with tales of red glowing eyes and sharp talons ripping apart everypony in the immediate vicinity. Though this is questionable, as there were no bodies ever found according to historical documents. This, however, did not deter the stories of a bloodthirsty monster from forming within a decade.
We decided then to investigate the forest itself, even though it had been declared forbidden and find out once and for all whether or not this legend was true. Like always we mounted motion triggered cameras in areas where the Myrkur would likely visit during the night and day. We waited a few days, and when we went back to check on them we were shocked. Before we tell you what happens let us explain that these cameras had enough runes to prevent a hydra from destroying them, these things were almost indestructible. When we went back, as you most likely have guessed, they were ripped to shreds, and most of the film had been incinerated. It was however one photo, and it confirmed our suspicions. The Myrkur exists, and...as our gryphon put it...it flipped us the bird.
This, however vulgar it may be, shows us that it some level of sentience. At first we thought it was mimicking something it saw...but that was the first photo taken of it, and then it ripped the camera a new one. This shows us that it either saw the camera before it took the photo, and managed to flip it the bird within miliseconds, or it watched us set it up...and heard us reassuring our ***guide on what it could do. We have no way of proving either of being true.
*- The 'caravans' were later discoverd to be either Nightmare Moon Occultists, or Smugglers
**- these 'attacks' were always against those who attempted to harm the Everfree, or loot the old castle.
***- we hired a Zebra by the name of Zecora to help guide us through the Everfree, as well as help us find areas where this creature would nest.

I will eventually get around to drawing this, don't worry.

'Bloody Ferals, they never know when to quit.' I think to myself. 'These packs have been getting aggressive, more so than usual. Why would....oh bollocks. The Mare in the moon is gone. Well, time I guess it's time.' Harmony, you ready? I ask telepathically.
Yes. I have selected my bearers, and I have been tracking the Martröð. It is moving towards where it all began. I would recommend you hurry, my chosen are nearly there!
You worry to much Harmony, I will be heading there now I say
Bring wolves, preferably pack Omega. Not for you, but for my chosen.
Ugh....fine. Wolf pack Omega, converge on Castle. Protect the six Chosen from the Martröð, but do not engage. Harmony has a plan. I order
By your will Guardian.
"No rest for the wickedly awesome I guess. Weather change, thunder storm." I say, and it starts to rain "Hehehe....that'll never get old." 'Now, to the castle.' I think to myself, I was lucky enough to be about a mile away so I decided to run. I get there in about two seconds...one of the perks of being a monster I suppose, I move faster than almost every creature on this planet. That, and I have to say that being in command of the Everfree? It is much more fun than I originally thought it would be. I wish my parents could see me, they might just be proud of their little sun-
"You little foal. Thinking you could defeat me? Now you will never see your princess, or your sun. The night will last forever! Muhahaha-" I cut of her evil laughter with a guttural screech, and I tackled her.
I recover quickly and scream "Omega move in! the Martröð is still bound to its host, defend the chosen!"
It was at that moment that I tuned everything else out, I was face to face with the source of all my troubles. The source of all these ferals....AND IT WAS STILL BOUND TO IT'S HOST! This was not normal behavior, it should have detached and found a new host. I was about to attempt to extract the Martröð from its host, when the chosen figured out how to use the elements and banished it from it's host. Luna was free of it, and it was free to choose another host. A ward of some sort fell after it had vacated the host indefinitely.
"-My faithful student, I knew you could do it."
"Omega, fall back to Harmony." I ordered "Celestia, make damn sure that Luna recovers fully...the Martröð may have drained her."
"HEY, WHO ARE YOU TO OR-" The Rainbow colored Chosen started
"As you wish, Guardian." She said
"Thank you...also Tia, it is good to see you again."
"As it is you, Sarah."
After that I 'went ghost' as Luna once said...in other words I became invisible, watching their eyes widen and hearing them gasp in amazement. A few moments later the Purple chosen asked "Princess, who...or what was that?"
"That...my student...was the Guardian of the Everfree, and my sister-in-law." She said, grinning.
Author's Note
My mind will not let me focus on a single story today other than this one...so I humbly introduce my newest creation...The Guardian of Friður. You are welcome.
P.S. Yes I know that I have multiple other stories to attend to but my brain would not let me until I published this...so shaddup.
Chapter two: The Brúður of the Moon
The next day
Pov: Sarah (IT HAS A NAME, HALLELUJAH! )
...Sooooo...is she...well? Harmony asked
Yes Harmony, Lulu is fine. Gonna have to wait till she recovers for our reunion, but I think she'll live. She took Sombra on for gods sake. I replied
Did I say I doubted you? She asked again
No, but I thought I'd ease them anyways. I replied
Well, I think you should vist her now...the Martröð can wait.
No it ca- I start
Yes, it can!...look Luna may no longer be a current bearer, but I am still in tune with her emotions, and don't you think her Brúður should be there? Didn't it go 'in sickness and in health?' not 'in sickness and in health, but only unless there isn't work to be done?' she asked
...but the Martröð is st- I start again
Still contained somewhere within my home...where it will remain until someone is foolish enough to enter. Come now Sarah, you should know that no one enters the forest without me seeing them...now go, and be with her. Consider this a vacation. she said
On one condition Harmony...let me borrow the armored pack. I said
You mean Lunar? The forest is your's just as much as it is mine, you know? Just give the order Guardian.
You named them Lunar? We are going to have a chat later. I say Lunar pack, on me. I require an escort. I command, grinning.
Aye Guardian, where will we be meeting you? the pack alpha replied
Outskirts of the Everfree, near the pony settlement. Bring Nightshade as well. I order
We'll have to find the little rascal, but it'll be done. He replied
'Oh, Lulu...you are going to love/hate me later for this' I think to myself as I attempt entry into her mind
Who dares attempt entry into mine mind!? Lulu yelled
Just a bitch with less of a sense of humor than you, my little dove. I replied with a smirk
...Sarah? Is that you? Lulu asked
Who else calls you 'My little dove'? I swear by all that is holy if you have been with another woman... I said sarcastically
No, I would never she replied, sounding a little hurt.
...I know...probably to early for that kind of humor, eh? I said a bit down trodden
No, not at all my loving demon. I just...forgot how bad your humor was she said, with a audible smirk
Oh, you little...YOU GET THE COUCH FOR THAT! I said
Worth it! She said
Well, stay where you are. I am coming with a little surprise, and an escort of armored Timberwolves.
A surpri- wait...armored Timberwolves? You didn't.
See you in a little bit, my little dove.
I'll be waiting, my loving demon.
After that I cut the connection between us.
We are here Guardian, Nightshade is with us as well. Though his caretaker was a bit spooked. Lunars alpha said to me
I will be right there, just have to grab a Peace Lilly. I said, probably in a dreamy tone. 'Hehehe, a thousand years of prep for this reunion...lets hope she'll be impressed.'
Author's Note
Two things.
One, can you guess what their relationship is?
Two, what do you think Nightshade is.
