Emerson's Story - An Interaction Story
Getting A Home With A House Warming Party
Previous ChapterNext ChapterI grabbed a seat and sat with the paper close to my face, "Well, having two roommates wouldn't make me lonely, anything above three to four would be very interesting, to say the least." I look up at the ceiling of the castle as I let my thoughts wander.
After thinking a while, I came up with an answer, "Well, I think I'll stick to having two roommates, but I'm going to exclude couples. I don't want to get involved with anything that might put a wrench on their relationship."
When I looked around the room, Spike was with Twilight and spoke, "Why's that Emerson?"
"I have a type of aura of bad luck that makes things turn bad around me. It might not happen now, but it will happen eventually." I explained.
Twilight lightly shook her head, "That makes no sense Emerson-"
I cut her out by speaking, "Fifteen."
She turned to me with her head tilted, "What?"
"Fifteen different couples who became my 'friends' broke up because of either strange occurrences or the female and male decided to end the relationship in a two to three weeks," I said as I closed my eyes to suppress the memories and sighed.
It was silent in the room as I cleared my throat, "It's a hard subject to say, but I just want to have regular individuals who are either related or not. At least my bad luck didn't affect families."
"I..." Twilight thought about what to say, "I understand Emerson, do you want me to set up fliers so Spike can put them up for everyone to see around town?"
I nodded as Tempest trot to where she's behind Twilight, "Yes, that would be nice, but there is one issue."
"What would that be?" Tempest asked.
"I haven't exactly got to know the town itself. I've been only here for about two days." I glanced at the window and it was late afternoon, "I need some kind of get together or party at this house when I buy it."
Suddenly the seat I was sitting on began to move, the cushions bulged and then it stopped. Before I could say anything, confetti sprayed at the bottom, making me and my chair fly up in the air by two feet. I yelped a little bit as a pink earth pony came out of the confetti, then the chair and myself came down to the ground.
"Oof!" I grunted as the pink pony, whose mane is a darker pink and her eyes are a light cerulean, land on my arms.
"Did someone say party?!" She asked.
I just stared at her as I tried to process the amount of confetti and how a pink pony popped out of my chair. I felt a hoof on my shoulder and I looked to my left and saw Tempest with a small smile on her muzzle.
"Trust me when I say this, you can't explain anything that Pinkie does." She said as I nodded slowly and looked at the pink pony.
I spoke as Twilight levitated all the confetti and puts it into the trash bin, "Yes, Pinkie was it, I need to have a party for potential roommates."
She giggles, "Sure thing! I suppose it's going to be at your new house then?"
I was going to ask how the heck she had known that but I remembered what Tempest said as she returned to her post, "Yes... As soon as I buy the house, you can set up the party, but it's now a surprise party you got it?"
Pinkie nodded, "Got the fliers Twilight?" She leaned back as I turned to see the purple Alicorn finishing her spell on a parchment that made multiple copies.
"Sure do. Do what you do best Pinkie." She smiled as Pinkie bounced off of my arms and snatched the fliers with her hoof out of Twilight's magical grasp.
"You know it!" Pinkie smiled as she happily stuffed the fliers into her mane and bounced out of the Library.
"So... That happened," I said as Spike nodded.
"Yep, at least I won't be posting the fliers." He said as Twilight took the information about the house into her own levitation.
"Let's go to the house first to see where you'll be living in and head back to Townhall to the housing section." She informed me as I got up from my seat and followed.
Once we got back into town Twilight led me down towards the housing area and showed me the house that I was going to live in. I was going to expect the house to be run down, but when I got a glance at it, that seemed the case. However, when we approached the entrance, it was eerily similar to Luigi's New Mansion if you get Rank C at the ending. Instead of having a green roof, it has brown tile complimented with white walls while having spruce accents bordering on it.
"Well, I'll say this: the house looks to be very homey," I say as Twilight nodded.
"It's been on the market for quite awhile and it has an interesting story behind it."
"Oh? Do tell."
Twilight teleported in a photo and levitated to my grasp and on the picture is a haunted house shrouded in darkness, "The house was haunted, decrepit and deformed, Zecora had to exorcise the unrested spirits and then the house was turned back to normal. Nobody wanted this house to begin with and since it's been empty for some time, Townhall was going to demolish it. Now that has stopped since the Storm King invaded Canterlot."
I hummed as I stroked my chin, 'So it has a similarity of Luigi's Mansion... Nah, too much of a coincidence.' I thought as I spoke, "Well I'm glad I'll have a home soon," I say as Twilight and I resumed our walk, "So is Mayor Mare in charge of the housing section of Ponyville?"
Twilight shook her head, "Amethyst Star is in charge. Mayor Mare gave her the job since the Bugbear incident."
"Bugbear?" I wondered.
"Yes."
"Wow, this town really has its days hasn't it?"
"You have no idea." She giggled.
We made it to Townhall and she opened up the door with her magic to let me in first. I thanked her as we headed to the same desk where Note Record was going through some papers.
"Oh good afternoon Twilight," Note smirked slyly, "Did you finish your paperwork?"
Twilight rolled her eyes playfully, "I sure do!" With her magic, she teleported in the huge stacks of papers on top of her desk. My eyes widen as the stack of papers were taller than me.
The mare, who was behind the stack of papers, gulped, "That's a lot..." Note chuckled as she looked at the stack, "Did you want to talk to Mayor Mare, Emerson?" I noticed that Twilight was smiling triumphantly with her eyes closed as I responded to her question.
"I actually wanted to speak to Amethyst Star about housing," I informed her.
She nodded, "Understood, just head down the hall and her office is to your left."
Twilight and I thanked Note Record as we went down to Amethyst's office. Twilight knocked this time and we heard her say to come in. Once we walked into the office, it was the same layout as Mayor Mares, except a few minor details here and there. The mare in question whose coat is a light magenta, her mane is a nice violet complimented with her purple eyes. Her cutie mark was just three simple greenish white diamonds in a shape of an upsidedown triangle.
"Afternoon Amethyst," Twilight said.
The mare was looking through some fliers and took a look at us, "Oh! Afternoon to you too Twilight and Emerson, have a seat." We did and Amethyst continued, "So, I heard from Mayor Mare that you're staying at Twilight's humble abode, but yet here you are in the housing office. What changed?"
Twilight spoke, "He doesn't like my castle." Her ears drooped down.
Amethyst gasped, "He doesn't?!"
I sighed, "That's not the case and you mares know it."
The two giggled as the magenta unicorn continued, "Alright Emerson, we're just teasing. In any case, you're here to buy a house and I believe its the cleansed house?"
Twilight nodded, "Emerson would like to buy that house so Pinkie Pie can reel in some potential roommates."
The magenta mare hopped out of her seat and went to her filing cabinet and pulled out the folder. She put it on the desk and opens it for us to see.
"All you need to do is to fill out the paperwork and pay me directly for 1,000 Bits. No closing costs." Amethyst informed me as I fished out my Bit's bag and gave her twenty platinum Bits on her desk stacked up. I glanced up to see that her jaw had dropped at the sight of platinum Bits as I filled out the paperwork. I know it's boring to be filling out so much paperwork, but that's how the world is whether in my old one or in Equestria.
I finished filling it out and Amethyst levitated three keys into my hand. It was an old-fashioned brass colored skeleton key, "Now you're a homeowner Emerson, congrats." Amethyst said who seemed to recover from the payment.
I glanced at the clock and it was 4 pm, "Well Twilight I guess we better have some dinner before we get to my house." I noticed a pink hoof from the ceiling. I looked up as Pinkie snatched one of my keys, "Need that to set up!" She said as she went into the ventilation tunnel.
I tilted my head as I looked at Ameythst who just shrugs and Twilight sighs with her hoof over her forehead, "Pinkie..."
"I suppose this is... Normal when Pinkie does this?" I asked as I got nods from both of them, "Alright...."
Twilight led me to Hay Burgers, which was alright, just had to dodge the hay and flower made products because I know that they are not for the human stomach. I accidentally ate a daisy when I was eight, and I was sick at the toilet for most of the time. Throwing up for like half a day and try to stomach breakfast, lunch or dinner. Luckily the menu for Hay Burgers had fruits, veggies, and some fish sticks, surprisingly.
Once Twilight and I finished, we had a very interesting conversation about what diets I should have compared to a ponies. It was pretty interesting, to say the least, and she even recommended me to different shops that sell meat product from different species like the Cats and Fishmen. As we made our way to my house and I noticed there was activity inside.
"Let's not keep them waiting then," I say as I got the skeleton key to the keyhole.
"I know Pinkie has her ways," Twilight said as I turned the key, "but I'm sure she picked potential roommates for you."
Opening the door, I see that Pinkie had been a busy mare. The place was decorated with streamers and a banner that said 'Welcome to Ponyville House Warming Party!'. I shook my head internally as I saw there were only a handful of species in the house. One Cat with red hair and brown coat is in a brown robe with a violet fluffy collar and cuffs. She seemed to be talking to the Hippogriff that has a cerulean coat with an indigo and grayish violet mane/tail and brilliant violet eyes. Two ponies, one Pegasi and one Unicorn. The Pegasi had a light pink-purple coat while a grayish blue-violet with lighter highlights and Persian blue eyes. The Unicorn has a light bluish gray coat with two shades of grayish Persian blue and nice cerise eyes. I noticed that their cutie marks were somewhat similar to one another. The Pegasus has a prism that shows a different color in the triangle and the Unicorn has the same prism, but a beam light is going through it and making a rainbow at the end. I guess I can make the assumption that they're related somehow.
Pinkie suddenly appears in front of my face as I blinked, "Hi!" She said as I step back while she landed on her hooves, "These were the only ones in town that wanted to bunk with you. A lot of homes nowadays, after the Festival, have been bought or rented out by different species or ponies."
"So why are there only four guests and not a whole lot?" I asked feeling a little bit relieved that I don't have to meet everyone in town.
The pink pony giggled, "Well~ I was going to invite the whole town, but I realized that Ponyville isn't a small town anymore, it's becoming a bigger town than it was before. Also, I had a feeling that you didn't like party's that much and I didn't want to overwhelm you with different faces."
Twilight gave her a light smile, "You did all you could Pinkie, I'm happy that you didn't invite the town to Emerson's Humble abode, it would be crowded if that were the case." Pinkie and I nodded in agreement as she continued, "I'm going to get my friends and once the party is done here, we'll hang out at my castle for Emerson's first and last night before moving in." She opened her eyes widely with an 'o' expression, "I need to give you a map of Ponyville so you won't have to get a guide every time."
I nod, but before I could speak, Pinkie saluted, "Okie Doki Loki!" She then grabs my arm and pulls me into the house as I turned back to wave at Twilight who smiles and returns it. The pink pony led me to the two ponies in the living room. They were having some apple cider and some cake while Pinkie sat me down on a sofa as she sat on the floor, "Alright girls," She got the mare's attention, "This is Emerson, the new owner of this humble abode."
The two mares smiled nicely towards me as I waved with a sheepish smile, "Hello there." I say.
The Unicorn spoke first, "Hello Emerson, my name is Prism Frost and this is my sister Clear Skies."
The Pegasus gives a little wave with her hoof, "It's nice to meet you."
"It's nice to meet you too," I say as I clapped my together, "So, let's cut to the chase, we're burning daylight."
Pinkie cocked her head, "Celestia is burning light during the day?"
Prism shook her head, "No Pinkie, it's a figure of speech meaning that the day is coming to an end soon."
"Oh~! I get it." She giggled.
Clear Skies giggled as well as she spoke, "We were trying to look for a place that wasn't an apartment complex, we've been trying to move to Cloudsdale, but houses and apartments around there are very expensive."
"So you need a place that's bigger than what you have correct?" I asked as the nod, "Alright, that's reasonable," I glance at the clock, "Pinkie go and entertain the other two guests while I go and talk with these two mares."
"Sure thing!" She cheers as she hops to the kitchen where the Cat and Hippogriff are.
Clear Skies and Prism Frost are in fact sisters. Clear is the older sister while Prism is a year younger. Prism moved out of her parent's house to move in with Skies because they grew up in the same bedroom for so many years. The only problem that they have is that the apartment that they live in is too cramped and can only fit a single pony or individual. Clear Skies is a Weather Patrol Pony that controls the weather for Ponyville. While Prism Frost is working as an assistant of Dr. Hooves laboratory while he's away on business trips around the world. I suppressed a reference about if he works in a blue police telephone box while Prism was talking about it. I got the vibe that these two would be a nice to have around the house. Clear Skies can cook because she was taught by her mother while Prism can clean and do some garden work.
Sadly it had to come to an end, "I'm sorry to cut this short, but I need to talk to the other ones. It's been nice talking to you."
Prism nodded, "That's understandable, we're not the only ones who want to bunk with you. Ready Clear Skies?"
"That's my line Prism." She chuckled, "Sure. It was nice meeting you too Emerson, have a good night."
We said our goodbyes as I walked them out. I quickly made my way down to the kitchen to see Pinkie chatting away the other two tenants. Once I was inside, Pinkie's ears picked up on my footsteps and spoke out.
"Ah, there he is!" She rushed to be beside me, "This is Emerson, he's the new owner of this house."
The Cat smiled as she offered her paw for a handshake, I grabbed it and shook, "Nice to meet you, my name is Catrina, a white hat witch." She purs her name as I let go of her paw.
I nodded and thought about her riding a broomstick and making spells in a black cauldron, "Catrina with a K or C?"
Catrina giggles a little, "With a C my friend."
The Hippogriff female walked up to me, offered her talons and I shook her, "The name is Stratus Skyranger, retired Noble Guard."
"I'm sorry to keep you two waiting, but there were other tenants that wanted to stay here as well," I explained.
Catrina waved it off, "It's nothing we can't handle, we spent the time knowing one another to know that we can live together."
Stratus chuckled, "Yes, at first I judged her for being a witch with some mischief, but she has a reason why she became one in the first place."
"I thought you were going to arrest me because you were part of the Guard," Catrina and Stratus laughed, "but again like she said, it was just some quick judgment."
I smiled, "Well I'm glad you two are getting along then." Something else came into my mind, "Catrina when you say you're a white hat witch, I'm guessing there is a gray and black hat group as well?"
She nodded, "Very perceptive of you, yes, there are those with the black hats that commit crimes around the world while the gray hats are basically in-between."
"Just as I thought, we have something like that back at home, but their not witch's they're computer hackers."
Catrina, Stratus, and Pinkie tilted their heads as I realized what I said, "Um... It's a term you guys wouldn't understand."
"I'll take your word for it, but for now, let's discuss," Stratus said as Pinkie passed out some drinks and slices of cake.
Catrina spoke how she lived in KlugeTown nearby another cat named Capper and wanted to move to Ponyville because she and Zecora were friends when they were little. It had been years since they saw one another, but after all that time, they were able to reconnect. Catrina's mother was a black hat and got caught by the justice department, leaving her on her own at a young adult age. She became a white hat witch and helped the community around her area with potions, charms, and spells. Now she want's to start an official business and use my basement, which I told her it would be fine, to make legal brews. Stratus, on the other hand, grew up in Mount Aris and became part of the guard. Then Tempest invaded and everyone ran or swam away into the ocean. She was not happy that they had to leave their kingdom behind and stay in their second one that they use to communicate with and trade with other water creatures. After they rebuilt their kingdom in Mt. Aris, Stratus announced that she was going to retire and have a change of pace. Luckily, she found a job at the local Police station in Ponyville and needs a place to stay while she's sleeping in her office.
I raised an eyebrow, "How does that work exactly?"
She blushed, "W-Well, I sleep under the desk and the fact that I don't snore is a plus." Stratus giggled as Catrina patted her back.
"I know the struggles, I had to live in a cardboard box for a while when I was trying to figure out what I had to do to survive in Klugetown." She explained as she took a drink.
Pinkie's ear swivel, "Oh, Twilight's back!"
We turned our heads to see the purple Alicorn, "Just here to pick up Emerson, am I interrupting anything?"
I glance at Catrina and Stratus while they shook their heads, "No, we just finished by the way."
Twilight smiled, "Oh, what perfect timing."
Catrina spoke, "Well, I don't know about you, but I think I should talk to Zecora about having an extra guest."
"Who's that?" Stratus asked.
The Cat chuckled and booped Stratus's beak, "You, you silly Hippogriff."
Stratus blushed, "O-oh, thank you so much!"
"It's no problem, Emerson, whoever you choose, I'm glad to have met you," Catrina said as she guides Stratus out the house.
"It's was nice to meet you, Emerson!" Stratus cheered.
"Likewise," I said.
Twilight, myself, and Pinkie, as she cleaned up the house at a fast pace, walked Catrina and Stratus out of the house. We said our goodbyes as I stood by my mailbox and looked at the night sky. It was definitely different compared to my first night in Canterlot. The stars and galaxies were visible against the night sky, it really took my breath away.
"Probably one of my favorite things about Ponyville," Twilight said as I looked to see she was looking up as well.
"Y-Yeah, Canterlot has a lot of light pollution which blocks a lot of details," I said as Pinkie bounced out of my house, locking the door and handing me my key via her mane. 'Just... Don't question it...' I thought as I sighed internally.
"I'll have to agree, while Canterlot was my original home, Ponyville has a nice charm to it that I grew to love," Twilight said as we began to walk towards the castle.
"So are your friends back at the castle then?" I asked.
She nodded, "Yep! I know you've met up with Rarity while Spike was taking you to Townhall which reminded me that you haven't met everyone properly. Well, except for Rarity, Pinkie and I."
"Again, I'm sorry about the reaction," I said scratching the back of my neck.
"Pfft!" Pinkie held in her chuckle, "Don't worry about it Emerson, it's in the past. So~, you've talked to both of the pairs, what's your decision?"
"Pinkie... Don't rush him, he's been through a lot of choices in just a single day." Twilight explained.
"It's not like he has a choice...." She muttered under her breath.
"What was that?" I asked.
"Oh, nothing! I'm just saying that you're doing fine with the choices you've made so far right?" She wondered.
"Yeah, I have been alright, I don't feel overwhelmed or anything," I explained as we approached the castle in it's crystal glory.
Twilight sighed, "Well whoever you choose, make sure to take your time on who you're going to spend the rest of your time here in Ponyville."
I smiled as Twilight led us inside, "Sure thing."
