The Rain

"J-James?" A voice I recognise asks as it nudges me.

I clinch my eyes shut for a second before opening them again, my vision is blurry. I blink a few times to get my vision back to normal. In front of me stands Scootaloo with a sad face.

"Scootaloo what's wrong?" I yawn.

"How could you?.... The last thing I had to remember my parents.... You.... Get out. I don't want to see you James." Scootaloo sniffles.

"The last thing? The blanket and pillows? I cleaned them because I didn't want you to sleep in a dirty bed." I groan as I rub at my still tired eyes.

Scootaloo climbs on top of the table and stares into my eyes.

"I said get out James. I don't want you near me.... Not anymore." Scootaloo growls.

"Okay.... Okay.... I'll leave." I mumble as I stand from the chair and walk towards the door.

I stand still in front of the door with my handing hovering just over the handle. I look back to see an angry Scootaloo still glaring at me.

"I SAID LEAVE!" Scootaloo shouts as a tear falls from her cheek onto the table where my arms where.

I take a deep breath and grab the handle pushing it down and opening the door. I take one last look behind me, then take my first step out of the house into the cold morning air. My entire body feels cold due to me not having my shirt, the hairs on my body all stood on their ends in the cold breeze. But I didn't want to ask Scootaloo for it back. I felt too bad after doing something that must be wrong.

'Is it normal to have dirty stuff of your parents if they've died? It must be.... Especially with how she acted.... I wish I could remember.... If I'd remembered something like that then.... Then just maybe this wouldn't have happened. I messed up pretty bad.' I think to myself with a sigh.

My stomach twists and turns at the thought of me doing something that would offend someone. It wasn't my intention to offend her, I only wanted to make sure she was safe.

'I thought I was helping.... Living in a dirty house is bad.... I rememeber that much at least' I sigh. 'Maybe I should just leave. Go somewhere.... And not upset anyone....'

A tear falls from my face and onto the ground. I hold my hand out and a few seconds later another falls, landing in the palm of my hand. I stare into the tear and see my own reflection. A face of regret stares back. I ball my hand up and squeeze the teardrop in my hand hoping that if I did this that all of this would go away. It didn't, instead all I got was a churning feeling in my stomach as another tear drops from my face and splashes on the back of my fist. I look back towards the forest where I found Scootaloo.

"Maybe I should just go back to the forest.... And stay out of everyone's way...." I mumble to myself.

I don't know why I'm crying and give up on questioning it. It might have something to do with my memories, but I won't know. I'll probably never know. I groan as I unclench my fist. I start to walk towards the forest, the sound of a door being slammed shut rings in my ears.

'I really have done something wrong....'

The sky above me greys. I look up and see dark clouds start to coat the sky. I can't stop staring at the grey that's now as far as the eye can see. A few droplets of water start to land on my face. I look away from the clouds and stare at the ground as it starts to rain. I don't want to move, or should I say, I can't move. My body is frozen in place on the outskirts of the forest. My uncovered body is now even colder as the rain falls onto my body. I start to shiver in the freezing cold rain. My mind is blank and so is my vision. The cold rains splashing against my back being the only thing I can feel. I blink to try to bring back my vision, but it doesn't come back. I shudder and finally everything comes back into focus. My vision, my legs. All of it works again. I take a shakey step forwards towards the forest. I can feel the cold leaves of bushes brushing against my bare stomach, painting long lines of water against my already wet body. I take a deep breath and push my way through the heavy foliage. A few bushes in and I run into a thorn bush. I stare at the bush for a few seconds.

'I need to get away.... I need to be alone.' Is the only thought that comes to my hazy mind.

I push my way through the bush. The many thorns scratching and scraping against my skin, some even penetrating the skin, drawing blood. The leaves on the bush drag across my body drawing long strokes of blood on my uncovered body. The rain still fell on me the whole time through the gaps in the canopy above. I look around me and see nothing but plant life for what seemed like miles.

'I had one chance to find some memories about myself.... And I blew it.... She could've helped me remember something. Anything.... If only I wasn't an idiot.'

My memory starts to get worse. Every step I take I immediately forget I took it. In my mind I was still at the entrance to the forest. I kept wandering deeper into the forest. Each step becoming harder to take due to the slipperiness of the forest floor. I take a second to look up to the canopy above.

'Maybe I should go up there.... I am a monkey after all....'

I dig my fingers into the bark of the nearest tree and start to climb. The wetness and the pain traveling through my fingers made climbing difficult. But eventually I made it. I sat on a branch with my feet dangling over the side. I take a deep breath and think about my mistakes and try to remember anything about my past. Anything at all. But nothing comes up. I start to feel my blood boil in anger.

'Why can't I remember anything? I can't even remember my own name.... Or can I? Is James my name or something I made up on the spot?... I want to remember.' I think to myself as I begin to cry. 'I just want to remember something.... anything.'

A bigger yellow version of Scootaloo slowly flies past me. The main differences are the size of the new creature and the fact that it's yellow with a pink mane and tail.

"You shouldn't be out here in the rain." I say to it.

The yellow creature then turns towards me.

"W-What are you?" The creature whispers.

The creature is clearly scared. It's shaking and looks like it's on the verge of tears.

"I'm a monkey.... Or.... Well I think I'm a monkey. But I don't look like any of the others." I explain.

"A monkey? I love monkeys." The yellow creature giggles.

The yellow creature then look at my face.

"A-Are you okay? You l-look like you've been crying." The yellow creature asks.

"If I'm honest. No. I'm not alright, but my story is too confusing for even me to understand so I don't think you'd understand either." I say with a sigh.

"Well my name's Fl-Fluttershy. How about you come with me and I can get you out of this rain." Fluttershy offers.

"I'm going to have to decline Fluttershy.... I've.... I've done something terrible and I need to be away for a while. To be honest you're not the first creature like you that I've talked to. The last one.... Well.... It didn't go too well." I mumble.

"W-What did you do? I-If you don't mind me asking that is." Fluttershy asks with a hint of worry in her voice.

"Well...." I start to explain.
