Chapters Dragons and Their Territories
Twilight's Castle: 9:47am (Saturday)
Twilight looked back and forth at the titanic beasts and at the entrance to her crystallized abode. She looked as if she was piecing together a solution as to how they could talk in solitude. All the while the entire village was staring clearly nervous of the two reptilians.
"So how do you suppose we get those two in here?" Twilight asked with a perplexed look on her face. In response, Kobayashi simply nodded at Tohru and Kanna and whispered for them to look like ponies like herself rather than humans so that they wouldn't startle the equestrian quadrupeds anymore than they already have.
With this, Tohru and Kanna both formed magic circles in unison and their bodies began to give off a fiery-gold glow as their forms swiftly changed from large to small. They decided to become pegasi so that they wouldn't lose their ability to fly. Much like what she looked like in her human form, Tohru still had her dragon tail, and her horns protruding from either side of her head. Her mane closely resembled her blonde pigtails and their fiery tips. Even so, her coat had a pale cream color to it. Along with all of this came a blank flank.
As Kanna proceeded her transformation, she retained her key dragon features much like Tohru did herself. Her pony form was short and she was as small as a philly. Though she didn't mind the small size, she particularly didn't like being this close to the ground. Her four horns stuck out from both sides of her head much like when in her human form, and her thin dragon tail with a club-like Pom Pom gracefully fell to the ground. Her mane looked almost exactly as her hair from her human shape and her coat was as pale as snow. As she slowly tried to get used to her new horse-like form, her tail swished energetically from side to side. Spike simply stared at Kanna with awestruck eyes and a new found level of respect for the young dragon. Twilight simply gaped at the two former dragons, and was very psyched indeed.
"Since when do dragons do magic!?" Twilight interrogated with eagerness for an answer.
"What do you mean? They've always done magic." Tohru suggested as she gave Twilight a look of confusion.
Kanna simply stared with her usual vacant expression.
"Not here, they haven't. I've even been able to get up close and personal with a small amount of them, and from the looks of it, they can't do magic." Twilight tried to choose her words carefully. Bringing up this dragon's wrath (or any dragon for that matter) was something that she didn't want to do.
"Is that so? Well then I'd like to meet them and see for myself because we dragons are a proud race." Tohru retorted as she puffed out her chest.
Twilight simply stared with a glint of agitation. Kobayashi broke the mare's concentration by patting her on the shoulder.
"Don't worry, she's always like that. It can be hard to listen to sometimes because she does it more often than not." Kobayashi smirked as she addressed Twilight. Twilight just sighed and comically drooped her head in amusement as she turned away from them and opened the doors to her castle with an entertained look on her face.
"Ah, home sweet home. I'd love to stay and chat, but Twilight woke me up super early today, so I'm taking a nap." Spike yawned as he waved his talons up and down. He made his way to where he normally slept. He plopped down on his bed and drifted off to sleep. The only problem was that he snores.
Twilight held a hoof up to her mouth and giggled at Spike's behavior. The alicorn then gestured for the three new 'ponies' to come sit with her at her map of Equestria. She took a seat in her usual spot and gently placed her front hooves on the map. Kobayashi, Tohru, and Kanna alike stared at the map in awe. Twilight gave a miniature smile and broke the silence by asking a question.
"So where in Equestria are you guys from? I've never seen anyone like you before, and I'm pretty sure I would've noticed you three by now." Twilight politely asked.
"Not from here." Kanna softly spoke, but just loud enough for Twilight and the others to hear.
"So then where? Another country, or- oh! Another continent?" Twilight enthusiastically interrogated. Her eyes were practically filled with stars by now.
"Well, I'm from the human world, and they're from a fantasy world, but now they live with me in my home world." Kobayashi explained with her dead fish eyes glaring at Twilight. The alicorn was slightly startled to find Kobayashi's emotionless eyes right on hers, but she found herself to still be alive so she ended up being fine with it. Even so, it could take her a few days to get used to it.
At Twilight's dawning realization that they were not from her world at all, she figured that her heart could implode on her so she decided to collect herself and continue the conversation without seeming too frisky.
"Oh, you're from the human world? I've been there a few times myself, you see, I have this mirror that can take me there. I normally let Sunset Shimmer use it whenever she wants to come talk to me, but that's a story for another time. Anyway, so how did yo-"
"There's a way to get back!?" Kobayashi suddenly jumped out of her chair and hungrily looked at the velvet alicorn for an answer.
"Well sure but, I'm sorry to say that it recently broke down. I've been meaning to fix it, but I'm a very busy pony." Twilight sighed in shame for leaving it broken for two whole weeks by now as she averted her eyes from everypony in the room.
"Oh. I see, okay then. Well, can we help you fix it?" Kobayashi sat back down as she calmed her eagerness to go home.
"Huh? Oh no, I'm sorry you can't. It's something wrong with the magic. Though I have no idea how to get it up and running again. There is that comet that's coming in a few days, so that could be the reason..." Twilight trailed off as Kobayashi and the others slowly pieced together why they had come to this world. A comet was the very reason of this effect.
"Of course it's a comet's fault. What is this, some kind of anime? Please don't tell me that I'm going to start switching bodies with someone who died three years ago." Kobayashi boredly stated. Tohru tilted her head in confusion, but Kanna nodded at her reference.
"Hm? Did you say something?" Twilight asked as she turned her attention back to the trio.
"No, nevermind that. It was nothing." Kobayashi waved it off with a sway of her hoof.
"So how long do you guys plan on staying here?" Twilight curiosly queried.
"Well, thanks to Tohru's magical weaknesses, probably about a week." Kobayashi replied as she rested both of her front hooves on the holographic map.
"Heyyyyy, you can't blame it on me, we already said that it was because of the comet." Tohru whined. She was clearly unhappy about Kobayashi's blame.
"That must be the reason you three are here." Twilight responded with a thoughtful expression as she held up a hoof to her chin.
"Kobayashi." Kanna called for Kobayashi's attention. Kobayashi looked down and asked Kanna what she wanted.
"Hungry." Kanna stared up at Kobayashi with her deep ocean-blue eyes.
"Ah, I'll ask Ms. Twilight if there are any restaurants anywhere Okay?" Kobayashi shot a warm smile down to Kanna as she hugged her softly. Tohru stared with a slight pit of jealousy in her sunset eyes.
"Uh, Ms. Twilight?"Kobayashi began.
"Oh, you can just call me Twilight, what is it you need?" Twilight responded.
"Are there any restaurants nearby?" Kobayashi asked.
"Why yes there is, in fact, I can show you the way. Now that you mention it, I'm kinda hungry too. And I haven't ate breakfast yet, so it works." Twilight cheerfully answered.
"I can cook for you and Kanna, Kobayashi! I can cook for you as well Ms.Twilight." Tohru reluctantly added the last part.
"You can just call me Twilight you know." Twilight spoke politely so that Tohru wouldn't get angry.
"Ah, Tohru's my 'maid' so she's kinda used to addressing people like that." Kobayashi gave an explanation.
"Mm." Kanna hummed silently in agreement.
Tohru asked Twilight where the kitchen was and made her way to the cooking area. As she walked down the long corridors, Tohru realized how colossal the crystal castle really was.
Twilight's Kitchen: 9:58 am
Tohru finally reached the kitchen and thought about what she could make that a pony would eat. She knew that they were herbivores, so all she had to do was choose a dish that didn't required meat for it. Tohru also figured that even if she did want to make a dish with meat, she couldn't because chances were that she'd have to go kill something because they wouldn't sell animal flesh considering that ponies don't eat meat. She really didn't feel like doing that at the moment. Even so, she still brainstormed ways that she could sneak her tail meat into Kobayashi's meal. Kobayashi of course, found it every time no matter how hard Tohru tried to hide it in her entrees that she prepared for her master.
Tohru finally came to the conclusion that she would make Zaru Soba (dipping noodles basically). She decided the make curry for Kobayashi though, and added some of her tail meat instead of steak or beef (not that she'd be able to anyway).
Tohru hummed to herself as she cooked for the four of them. She decided that she would also make a small bowl of miso soup for Spike when he woke up from his nap.
Twilight's Map of Equestria: 10:15am
"So I've been meaning to ask, what are those marks on your thighs? I've noticed that almost every pony in this town has them except for some of the younger ones. Is it like something that shows that you've matured or something?" Kobayashi asked as she stared at Twilight waiting for an answer.
"Actually, I'm glad you asked. Those are called Cutie Marks. They represent a pony's special talent, and a pony gets one by figuring out what their special talent is. Every pony has one, some just take longer than others to find theirs. Considering that you're not from this world, it makes sense as to why you three wouldn't have one. If you really wanted one, I could help you find your special talent." Twilight spelled out for Kobayashi.
"No I don't really want one, but I'll see if Kanna wants one. So how about it Kanna? Would you like to find your 'Cutie Mark?'" Kobayashi gently asked the 'filly.' Twilight couldn't help but smile warmly at the sight of Kobayashi's motherly approach to Kanna.
"Mm." Kanna nodded in reply and walked over to Twilight hesitantly because this would the first time in a long time that she would be going somewhere with someone other than Tohru, Kobayashi, or even Saikawa for that matter.
"Aww, you're so cute Kanna. Do you want to eat before we go? I remembered that you said you were hungry." Twilight cooed at the adorable young 'filly.'
"Mm." Kanna responded as she sat back down at the map and waited with Kobayashi and Twilight for the food that Tohru was just finishing up.
Twilight's Kitchen: 10:30 am
"Once again, another victory for Tohru~" Tohru praised herself. She seemed particularly proud thinking that pouring a lot more sauce on her tail meat will hide it the best. She picked up the large platter of dipping noodles and Spike's miso soup and placed them on her wings. She held the most valuable meal in her mouth: Kobayashi's curry.
Twilight's Map of Equestria: 10:32 am
"Are you guys hungry, because I've got three entrees here!" Tohru called to the group. She had been balancing two plates on both wings and delicately, but firmly held the curry plate in her mouth.
At the scent of food Spike practically floated out of his bed and into his seat at the map. He wafted up the scent of the dipping noodles and the curry causing his mouth to water.
"Mmmmmm, smells absolutely delicious!" Spike hungrily declared as he reached for the curry with one of his talons. Tohru gently smacked his claws and slid the curry over to Kobayashi, and the large bowl of miso soup over to him. He winced and quietly accepted his soup.
"Even better!" He announced after getting a good sniff at the miso.
Kobayashi had to figure out how to use eating utensils without hands to hold them for her.
"Ugh, how do you even-" Kobayashi tried using both of her hooves to pick up the spoon that rested on the side of her plate. No matter how hard she tried, she simply couldn't manage to do so.
Eventually, Tohru acknowledged Kobayashi's struggle and offered to feed her. Kobayashi reluctantly accepted Tohru's offer much to Tohru's pleasure. The dragon maid practically trotted over to Kobayashi and grabbed the spoon on its handle with her teeth. She seemed overly happy to be doing so.
Spike leaned over to Twilight and whispered, "Why is Tohru acting like that?" with much curiousity.
"She must have a thing for Kobayashi or something like that. If you ask me, I think it's pretty cute to be honest." Twilight chuckled as she whispered back to Spike.
As Kobayashi continued to stare at the chunks in her curry, she grew more suspicious of it. The more she concentrated on it, the more clear to her it was that the chunks were indeed Tohru's tail meat. Just as Tohru was about to put some of her tail meat in Kobayashi's mouth, Kobayashi raised her hoof to stop the spoon. She wasn't angry, just disappointed.
"Tohru I know this is your tail meat. You can't sneak it past me. You've tried it so many times by now that I hardly have to actually check anymore." Kobayashi stated almost cruelly.
"Hmph" Tohru pouted and puffed up her cheeks.
Twilight and Spike looked at each other in confusion and tilted their heads. Then Spike asked a question.
"Tail meat? What's that?" Spike asked curiously. Kobayashi sighed and began to explain.
"It Tohru's tail. She chops it off and tries to feed it to me. It's really annoying and unnecessary." Kobayashi boredly explained.
The two of them gasped in shock.
"Is Tohru okay with doing that? I mean, doesn't that hurt?" Twilight asked with concern for the maid.
"It doesn't hurt, besides, even if it did, it would be worth it for Kobayashi because I lo-"
"It grows back she's fine" Kobayashi interjected as she put a hoof over Tohru's mouth.
Tohru licked Kobayashi's hoof much to Kobayashi's displeasure. She pulled her hoof away so fast it broke the sound barrier. She wiped her hoof off on the floor and gave Tohru an angry look.
"TOHRU! That's gross!" Kobayashi sighed.
"What did she do?" Twilight asked as she tilted her head.
"Never mind. I'm not hungry anymore." Kobayashi stated as Tohru looked down and pouted.
Twilight and Spike greatly enjoyed their meals along with Kanna.
"Wow, this is really good!" Twilight and Spike shouted in unison.
With that, Kobayashi decided to push aside all of Tohru's tail meat, and ate everything else on the plate (with Tohru's help).
(30 minutes later)
"Alright Kanna, are you ready to go?" Twilight asked with enthusiasm.
"Yes." Kanna simply replied with her usual bored tone of voice, though her excitement was clear in her large eyes.
"Off we go then! I know this great group of fillies who could help you find your Cutie Mark. They call themselves the 'Cutie Mark Crusaders..." Twilight trailed off as her and Kanna exited the castle with Spike following close behind them.
Tohru decided to leave the castle as well, and Kobayashi had chose to tag along with Tohru. Though, Kobayashi didn't know exactly where Tohru was going, Tohru did. She wanted to visit the dragon land to mock the supposedly weaker dragons. She used a smirk as a small brag just by thinking about it. She even wanted to laugh at Spike when she first met him, but she made the smart, and respectful choice not to for both her, and Kobayashi's sake.
"So Tohru, where are going?" Kobayashi queried as she walked alongside Tohru through the entrance way of Twilight's castle.
"To the dragon land of course." Tohru giggled. Even though she was just going there to test the dragons' temper, she was also the slightest bit curious as to why dragons in this world couldn't use magic.
"Why is that?" Kobayashi asked suspiciously. She had a feeling that Tohru was going to cause trouble, and for that reason, she had chose to tag along with Tohru.
"O-oh, no reason. I just wanted to see what they're like in this world." Tohru was only partly lying. She truly was curious about the dragons here, and she longed to know more about them. Her method of doing that though of course, was the dangerous and even going as far as to callling it idiotic.
Well, I guess it would make sense for Tohru to want to know about different...dragons? Or maybe dragons from outside her world would be the right way to put it. I'm still coming with her just to make sure that she stays out of trouble. Kobayashi thought to herself.
Tohru reverted to her true form and lowered her long, scaly neck so that Kobayashi could climb on. When Kobayashi finally got into a comfortable position, she gave Tohru the 'okay' to fly. Tohru's take off was a bit sloppy and rushed, but when they were finally flying smoothly in the air, Tohru's much experience with flight had made itself visible. Wind slowly whistled in their ears, and when Tohru flew through clouds, their soft embrace was easily cut with the knife that was Tohru's wings. The two of them enjoyed the moments such as theses where they could easily get lost in it. Despite the rush of it all, the pair was as calm as ever.
Ponyville (with Twilight, Kanna and Spike): 11:12am (Saturday)
"So Kanna, what are your skills? Considering that your a dragon that can perform magic, I think there are many skills that you have." Twilight complimented. She simply adored Kanna. She was so cute and well-behaved. Twilight also took note of how much her and Fluttershy have in common due to both of them being the strong and silent type.
Ohh, I should introduce Kanna to Fluttershy. I'm sure that they would get along well. Twilight pondered and she beamed with delight.
"Electricity." Kanna replied with her soft and relaxed voice. Twilight simply cooed and fawned over the young 'filly.' Kanna gave her the same bored look that she casually wore.
"Ohhh, can you show us?" Spike interjected before Twilight could answer with her own response. Spike carried a spark of inspiration within his eyes. He really idolized Kanna due to her magical power. He adored her abilities, he cared about what she could do, and wanted to see more of it. He loved her for that. He loved her.
Kanna easily nodded as a response.
She sat on her hind legs and rubbed her front hooves together lightly. She then closed her eyes so that she could concentrate on her electricity. Kanna began making circular motions with her front hooves as a tiny ball of pure energy began to form in her clutches. It had an icy blue glow and surged with electric power as it slowly grew into an even larger ball of energy that was now greatly capable of destruction. Both Twilight and Spike could only gape with their mouths wide open in awe. Finding no other place to throw her now condemned orb, she released it into the sky where it exploded with electricity and now unstable energy flying everywhere in the sky. A large variety of colors emitted from the eruption. It's exotic beauty could be spotted all the way from Canterlot. All Kanna could do was watch her creation entertain the ponies in the area. Luckily, there were no pegasi in the sheer area of the explosion. They were all busy creating rain clouds for the next day that was to come.
Everypony in town looked for the source of the detonation and found a small pegasus pony with electricity still surging through her hooves. They all began to clap with their hooves and cheered for Kanna. Pinkie Pie just so happened to be in the crowd and decided to fire off her party cannon right in font of the little 'filly's' face which didn't manage to get a reaction out of Kanna. Eventually the crowd of civilians disbanded and everypony went on with the rest of their day but instead of their average happiness, they were filled with new energy and felt all warm inside. They all felt inspired by Kanna's feat.
"Wow! That was so awesome! Twilight didja see, didja see!? That explosion was all like, BA-BOOM! And POW! And ZAP! It was totally AMAZING!" The pink pony exclaimed as she bounced up and down in excitement.
"Yes Pinkie, me and Spike were right here the whole time. We saw Kanna create it and it was-"
"AMAZING!" Spike interrupted with much enthusiasm. After receiving a slightly disappointed look from Twilight, Spike blushed in embarrassment. Pinkie simply chuckled and introduced herself to Kanna.
"HiI'mPinkiePiewhat'syourname, youmustbenewaroundhereit'sreallynicetomeetyou!" The pink earth pony spoke with much speed and Kanna almost didn't understand it but she understood just enough to give Pinkie a response.
"I'm Kanna Kobayashi. Nice to meet you let's be friends." Kanna introduced herself to Pinkie Pie as well.
"Awwww, she's so cute!" Pinkie swooned over Kanna.
"Isn't she though?" Twilight joined in.
"Yeahhhhh" Spike said almost love struck.
Twilight took note of that and nudged Spike's arm playfully, "Ohhh looks like someone's got a new crush," Twilight whispered in his ear jokingly.
"N-No I do don't!" Spike defended as he crossed his arms. He could feel his cheeks burning up as he averted Twilight's eyes.
"Don't worry, I won't tell anypony." Twilight winked with a smirk on her face.
Rainbow Dash had noticed the after effects of the explosion beginning to drift in the direction of her house and decided to check out what caused the eruption. As she sped her way to the area of where the aftermath seemed to be blowing in from, she noticed her friends and decided to land. When the cyan pegasus arrived on the scene, she noticed Twilight, Spike, Pinkie Pie, and then there was her. It was somepony completely new. She looked to be around Scootaloo's age (though she wasn't).
"Oh, hi Rainbow Dash!" Pinkie greeted the blue pegasus with an overly excited wave of her hoof.
"Hey Pinkie Pie, hey Twilight, hey Spike." Rainbow Dash replied.
"Hey Rainbow Dash." The dragon and the alicorn replied in unison.
"So who's the new kid?" Rainbow asked as she tilted her head and gestured a hoof to Kanna.
"That's Kanna Kobayashi, though she said that it's okay to just call her Kanna." Twilight answered casually.
"Heh, cool. So what happened with that explosion? I mean, who caused it?" Rainbow asked in a very casual yet curious tone.
"This young filly right here is responsible for it and it was just amazing!" Twilight exclaimed with stars in her eyes.
"I would've thought it was you Twilight, but I guess it's alright to have something different for a change." Rainbow Dash remarked as she walked over to Kanna to introduce herself.
Rainbow Dash held out her hood and gave Kanna her name and in return, Kanna shook Rainbow's hoof softly and introduced herself as well.
"So, what are you guys doing here?" Rainbow asked.
"Oh, I'm glad you asked! Kanna here wants a cutie mark, so I thought I would go take her to the Cutie Mark Crusaders." Twilight explained.
"That reminds me, have you seen them around anywhere? I was going to go check if they were in their tree house, but I want to make sure first." Twilight wondered.
"I haven't seen them around Ponyville so maybe they're in their tree house!" Pinkie suggested.
"Scootaloo not in cloudsdale, and she hasn't been at my house all day. I think Sweet Apple Acres is your best bet." Rainbow recommended as she said her goodbyes and flew off.
"I should get back to Sugarcube Corner now, see ya later Twi, bye Kanna and Spike" Pinkie also began to leave the three of them simply waved.
"Well, we should head to Sweet Apple Acres now." Spike suggested as he climbed onto Twilights back.
"Right. Kanna can you fly yet in this form?
"Mm. Not fast yet." Kanna simply replied as she and Twilight took off into the air and flew to Applejack's farm.
Dragon Land: (With Tohru and Kobayashi) 12:03 am
"Remind me why we came here again?" Kobayashi asked as she looked bored as ever.
"I'm curious about the dragons in this world." Tohru stated as she began to walk to where all the roaring was coming from.
"Oh, right. Just don't be rude or mean ok?" Kobayashi made sure to keep a close eye on Tohru's actions.
"If you wish to live, please stay on my back Ms. Kobayashi. These dragons seem quite petty and stubborn." Tohru suggested as she arrived.
Tobruk was around the size of a full grown dragon in Equestria, though she was a bit larger by an almost unnoticeable amount. There was a humongous blue dragon that had horns with which almost resembled a bull, and she took a guess that he was the alpha of this group. She would be very surprised when she found out about the true leader.
"Hey Tohru, didn't you say that dragons in your world normally live alone or their isolated or something?" Kobayashi asked.
"Yeah, but it seems that it's simply not the case here. They're all gathered in one big group. It's kinda surprising to see that. Back in my world we all lived alone. We only came together when it was time for the next generation to be born. It was kinda lonely to be honest." Tohru explained with a hint of grieve in her voice as she gave a small sad smile (though in her dragon form it was hard to tell what her expression was but Kobayashi could see it in her eyes.
Man, it's kind of depressing when I talk about stuff like this with Tohru. But it's fine because I guess we all need it every now, and again. Kobayashi thought to herself as she softly rubbed Tohru's scales.
"Well, I lived alone alone before you and Kanna came along, so I kinda know how you feel." Kobayashi tried reassuring Tohru a little bit.
Tohru felt better and headed down the crater like mountain to greet the first dragon she saw. It had red scales that shined under the sunlight, he didn't have horns, but rather web-like ears and his spikes were unnecessarily long and obnoxiously stuck out on his head. He had been napping but immediately woke when he heard Tohru's approach. He began to speak to Tohru in snarls and roars, he occasionally grunted and growled. Even though Tohru could understand him clearly, Kobayashi didn't understand a single word.
"Who are you and what do you want?" The red dragon grunted rudely.
"My name is Tohru Kobayashi and I was just curious about you all. I was wondering if we could talk for a bit?" Tohru tried to keep her anger under control and almost popped a vessel.
"I'm Smolder, and I don't feel like talking. I just wanna sleep so leave me alone." He growled as he laid his head down on the rock he was resting on. Tohru stood over him and blocked the sun from warming him up.
"Hey doofus, get outta the way of my sunlight or I'll blast ya with fire." Smolder threatened as he opened one eye to see Tohru giving him a fake friendly smile and an evilly cruel glare in her eyes.
"You wouldn't dream of challenging me. I'll rip you to shreds with a single swipe." Tohru bragged. Smolder was displeased to hear this and challenged Tohru to a fight. The other dragons simply stared, and among them was Garble and his dragon buddies. Then there was Ember who was just about ready to end the fight, but she wanted to see if she really needed to.
Smolder roared in agitation and readied himself for a fight and Tohru followed suit.
"Tohru what happened! I thought you were just curious about them. Don't start fighting one of them!" Kobayashi scolded.
"But he was being rude and I couldn't take it anymore...and I feel like killing him right now..." Tohru spoke that last part under her breath.
"Don't. Creatures as rude as him aren't worth the time. Let's just go. We can come back another day when everything is less tense." Kobayashi suggested.
Tohru grabbed Kobayashi with her mouth, set her down, and pushed her back with her hind leg. She gave Kobayashi a side glare and told her that it wouldn't take long. Kobayashi tried running back to Tohru to stop her but she hadn't gotten used to using four legs completely. She shouted and hollered for Tohru to just leave Smolder alone but to no avail.
Tohru then bursted into the air using her magical power and shot a thin beam of light at Smolder that later exploded right into his face. He roared in agony as blood spurted out of his head, and his under skin was revealed due to his scales being blown off. Tohru could have ended him with that one shot, but decided to leave him alive so that he could still feel the pain. A bit of his skull was visible and his once crimson face was black and half blown away into smaller pieces. Scarlet liquid trickled down from his now empty eye socket as he desperately rubbed and clawed at his face trying to get the pain to stop put only succeeding in making it worse. It burned, and it stung, and all Smolder could do was whimper and scream. Tohru had done major damage to him, and he was very wrong to misjudge this dragon. That's when Ember decided to step in.
"WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS!? YOU COME INTO OUR LAND AND START ATTACKING OUT OF NOWHERE! THAT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE HERE! I'M GONNA HAVE TO ASK YOU TO LEAVE NOW!" Ember shouted at the top of her lungs. Ember sprinted over to Smolder and tenderly rubbed his face.
"Oh Smolder, what did they do to you?" Ember hardly managed to say as tears formed in her eyes. Smolder didn't answer and simply whimpered.
"TOHRU! COME HERE!" Ms. Kobayashi called with clear anger in her voice. Tohru landed and bowed her head in shame as she braced herself for impact.
"...Eeyes Ms. Kobayashi?...." Tohru responded.
"I told you to keep yourself out of trouble, and this is what you do!? Can you fix that dragon or are you just gonna leave him in pain like that. No, don't even answer. Just fix your problem here." Kobayashi scolded. She sounded like a mother scolding their child for doing something stupid.
"Yes, Ms. Kobayashi." Tohru sadly replied as she walked over to Smolder. Ember was quick to jump in front of him as she tried to tell Tohru off.
"I said LEAVE!!" Ember shouted in Tohru's face. Tohru simply ignored her as she raised a talon and a magic circle appeared.
The red dragon's face turned from completely unrecognizable to normal as Tohru healed him. His pain was finally gone, but Tohru couldn't remove the black residue from the blast and so he had to live with it for the rest of his life. Ember and the other dragons stared in awe. Then Ember turned away from Tohru.
"Thank you for helping him, now please just go." Ember requested. As Tohru began walking away, Kobayashi stopped her, and told her to wait.
"You're not going anywhere. We're going to tell her what happened because this doesn't seem all right." Kobayashi stated as she and Tohru amass their way to face Ember's fury.
"Why are you still here, and why did you invite her back. You must obey the Dragon Lord or I will off you both myself." Ember spat. Tohru was very surprised indeed to hear that this small dragon was the leader of them all.
"Can I tell you what really happened?" Kobayashi asked formerly as she approached Ember. Ember reluctantly allowed it as she landed.
"Make it quick." Ember growled.
"Well you see, Tohru here was just trying ask Smolder, that's his name right," Ember nodded and Kobayashi continued, "a question and Smolder was being rude and he even went as far as to threaten her. Now, I won't say Tohru didn't do anything wrong," Tohru flinched at that, "because she kinda tested him but he was going a bit overboard too. She politely asked him a question which gives him no right to be a grump about it." Kobayashi defended Tohru, and Tohru could only look at Kobayashi lovingly. Garble noticed the way Tohru stared and wondered about her. When he finally reached a realization, he gagged.
"Ugh, what a waste. She was powerful enough to mess up Smolder but this is how she is. Bah." Garble spat.
Ember scratched her chin as she thought of a compromise. She got an idea of how to solve this.
"Alright, I've got an idea, but because we dragons are stubborn, and reckless, you two won't like it. You will both need to apologize to each other. Smolder, you apologize for being rude and Tohru is it," Tohru nodded, "you will apologize for mangling his face. Understand?" The two dragons nodded and walked toward each and reluctantly growled the words.
"...Sorry for blowing your face into oblivion..." Tohru apologized almost angrily as she refused to meet Smolder's eyes with her own.
Smolder took one of his talons and lifted her chin up so he could stare intensely into her eyes. Tohru did not like this at all.
"No, I'm sorry for being so insensitive and cruel to you. I can be very compassionate, you just caught me on a bad day." Smolder booped Tohru's snout lovingly and Tohru snorted in displeasure as a response.
"Well, we should go now." Kobayashi piped up as she waved for Tohru to come with her. Tohru happily obliged and carried Kobayashi on her head.
They took off and the dragons went back on with their daily lives.
As Tohru flew through the air with Kobayashi safely attached, they talked about dragons and what not and how different they were from Tohru's world. Tohru did most of the chatting however. Then Tohru smoothly landed for once in her life and returned to her pony form. She and Kobayashi entered Twilight's castle and figured out what to do for the rest of the day.

Pallin’ Around In Town
Sweet Apple Acres: 12:03pm (Saturday)
"Ohhh, I'm so excited! I can't wait for you to get your Cutie Mark Kanna~" Twilight cooed as they arrived at the small tree house. Twilight offered to walk Kanna up to the humble tree house. That's when Spike stepped in and almost pushed Twilight aside and offered to do it himself. Twilight have Spike a small, playful scorn as she glared at him. Out of pure manners, Kanna allowed it. When Spike was just about to knock on the door, she heard some voices inside. They sounded a bit on edge, but more mopey for the most part.
"Uuggggggghhhhhhhhh, we haven't had a new case in like, FOREVERRRRRRRRRR" a slightly raspy voice groaned from the inside. Spike guessed that it must've been Scootaloo.
"Yeah, uggghhhh this is HOPELESS and we-" The voice was cut short by a knock on the door.
One of the small fillies went to open the mini wooden door and Kanna was simply standing behind Spike. This was a new one to him. It was almost as if she was afraid, or nervous maybe? Whatever the problem was, Spike was going to be willing to help her through it. But in order for the situation to stay at a low level of awkwardness, Spike simply waited for the door to be opened.
With a small creak, the door slowly widened as a small cream-colored filly with a crimson mane poked their head out of the doorway. It was Applebloom.
"Oh, hey Spike! You need somethin'?" The small pony talked with a very noticeable southern accent. It was almost heavy even.
"Oh, h-hey Appleebloom, actually, I have something for the three of you." Spike replied as he felt Kanna's hoof hold his talons out of nervousness, and he could feel the warmth rush to his cheeks as they turned to a rosy color.
"REALLY!?- I mean, really, that's great! It's good to finally get another case." Applebloom blushed in embarrassment as she gestured him to come into the tree house.
Spike gently led Kanna through the doorway and Applebloom shut the door behind them.
“Er, where is the new case?” Sweetiebell asked with a puzzled look upon her face.
“She’s right here, and please don’t refer to her as ‘another case’ because she’s special.” Spike raised his chin to them as he bragged about Kanna.
“Well, who is she Spike” Scootaloo butted in. Spike stepped aside in order to let her introduce herself.
Kanna bowed her head and gave them a name.
“It’s nice to meet you, let’s be friends.” Kanna stated very soft spokenly. The Cutie Mark Crusaders could only adore how cute Kanna was. She was so respectful as well.
“Awwwww, She so adorable!” The three fillies exclaimed in unison.
“I know right?” Spike spike under his breath as he averted his eyes.
“Well, thanks Spike! We’ll take gooood care of her!” Scootaloo thanked as Spike made his way out of the door. He simply smiled and waved as he walked back to Twilight.
“So Kanna, before we begin, what do you feel is something you’re good at?” Sweetiebelle asked politely.
“Electricity.” Kanna softly replied as she allowed a small surge of a bolt visibly pass through her tail to show as an example.
“Wow! That’s so cool! I guess we could hang.” Scootaloo complimented.
Stars formed in Kanna’s eyes to show that she was pleased to receive praise.
“That’s amazin’ Kanna! Is there anythang specific ya use it for?” Applebloom questioned.
Kanna thought for a moment and couldn’t think of one specific thing that she would use her electricity for. As a result, she simply shook her head.
“Does everything count?” Kanna asked sweetly.
“I guess that could work. What do you guys think?” Sweetiebelle piped up.
“Nah, I think that Kanna’s talent is simply handling the element.” Scootaloo answered.
“Mm.” Kanna nodded in agreement.
“Well, that was fast.” Applebloom remarked.
Kanna took a glance at her flank only to see that it was still blank. It was still as pure a white as her coat.
“Crusaders, lets help Kanna gain her Cutie Mark!” Scootaloo shouted as she raised a hoof in the air.
“Right!” The other two knocked their hooves with Scootaloo’s and escorted Kanna out to the orchard of apple trees.
“So how’d it go Spike?” Twilight asked as she and Spike made their way back to the castle.
“She was beautiful- Imean! It went well. They said they’d take good care of her so she’ll probably get her Cutie Mark by the end of the day.” Spike caught himself before it slipped out completely. Twilight knew better than that though and raised an eyebrow as she smiled mischievously at the small dragon.
“Glad to hear it. Well, I guess it’s time to see what Kobayashi and Tohru are up to now.
Twilight’s Castle: 12:33pm
“Ah home sweet home. I’m gonna go take another nap right now so if you need anything, I’ll be sleeping...again.” Spike said as he yawned and headed towards his usual slumber spot and plopped down to let sleep take him.
Twilight simply rolled her eyes and walked to her holographic map of Equestria to find Tohru and Kobayashi. Though she wished she could have seen what had led up to the current scene in front of her.
Kobayashi was gently caressing Tohru’s tail and glared at it thoughtfully. It was evident that she was studying it in some sort of way. Meanwhile Tohru’s face simply displayed pure ecstasy and bliss. Kobayashi hadn’t seemed to notice how her touching was affecting Tohru due to her constant rubbing and fidgeting with the tail.
“The scales are hard but extremely smooth and shiny. You must really take care of them despite having a large body. I’m amazed that you can even cut it off.” Kobayashi casually remarked. Neither of them seemed to notice Twilight standing in the doorway watching with confusion and longing even.
What was there for her to long for? She had friends, she was a princess she’s got a loving family, and great dragon assistant, and even her very own student who trusts in her. So what was there for her to long for? Simply the opportunity to thoroughly study a dragon’s anatomy. She had Spike, but he only carried so much information on him.
Sheesh Twilight, you’re so weird. If you were insane, you would be a mad scientist by now. Twilight insulted herself and continued to watch the scenario play out. She was curious to see the outcome.
“Hng, ah, mmhh” Tohru quietly moaned to herself and blushed intensely as Kobayashi continued to stroke her tail potently.
When Kobayashi reached down to touch the soft underside of the dragon’s tail, Tohru twitched and stuck her tongue out.
“I don’t think Kobayashi realizes that she seems to be pleasuring Tohru. Maybe I should tell her.” Twilight slowly began to walk over to the pair of unaware ‘ponies’ but stopped when she heard Kobayashi speak.
“Wow, you’re underbelly is super soft,” Tohru jolted at the sudden contact, then rolled her eyes to the back of her head as her head tilted back a bit. Kobayashi continued to caress under her tail, but noticed Tohru’s small action and immediately stopped, “Are you seriously getting off on this!?” Kobayashi screamed as she pulled away faster than the speed of light.
“You didn’t tell me that this was some kind of sexual thing for dragons!” Kobayashi stood up on all fours quickly and suddenly noticed Twilight standing not too far behind them.
“Oh, hey Twilight. Remind me never to touch Tohru’s tail ever again.” Kobayashi returned to her usual calm state.
“Hnnngg. Hmph. Why’d Ms. Kobayashi stoooop.” Tohru whined.
“Because you were getting...pleasure from it.” Kobayashi coldly replied.
Twilight simply giggled and left.
“If you need anything, I’ll be in the library. It’s the fifth door on the right.” Twilight said as she exited the room.
“Heh, I might just need a temporary getaway from Tohru every now and again while we’re here.” Kobayashi uttered under her breath.
Sweet Apple Acres (Barn): 12:40pm
“So where should we start? I can’t think of that lightning could be useful as a talent for.” Sweetiebelle asked as she walked alongside Kanna and the other crusaders.
“Oh! I know! We could take Kanna to Cloudsdale! There’s bound to be something there that she could find.” Scootaloo enthusiastically suggested.
“That’s a great idea!” Sweetiebelle complimented as her and Applebloom clapped their hooves together.
“We could even get Rainbow Dash in on this too if she’s free.” Applebloom added.
They turned back to Kanna who was practicing her abilities with electricity. They could see her struggling with one certain bolt. It was black, and surged uncontrollably. It danced freely on Kanna’s hooves and nearly escaped her grasp several times.
“Ohhhh what’s that Kanna?” Sweetiebelle was the first to approach Kanna from behind. The others soon follows her.
“Dangerous Spark.” Kanna softly replied, though they almost didn’t hear her. But she was just loud enough.
The three fillies were awestruck and asked if it was okay for them to get a little closer for a better look.
“Dangerous for even dragons.” Kanna simply replied.
The trio gasped in worry, concern, and even horror. As they did so, Kanna’s flank began to glow for a split second until the glow became more faint. Suddenly it was gone and there on Kanna’s flank lay nothing. It remained as pure a white as ever. Kanna stared at it with her usual bored face and wasn’t surprised one bit to see it blank.
“Ah wondered if dragons could get cutie marks. After all, after tryin’ it on a griffin, Ah was pretty convinced anyway. We’re sorry Kanna.” Applebloom apologized as the crusaders hung their heads low to the ground and Kanna walked up to them and bowed with respect.
“Thank you for trying.” Kanna began to walk back to Twilight’s castle and held her head high and was confident to get her Cutie Mark before the week ended.
“Crusaders, I don’t think we should give up that easily. Let’s help Kanna get her CUTIE MARK!!!” Scootaloo bellowed. She had stars in her eyes and was filled with confidence and determination to help Kanna out.
“Right!” said the other two crusaders as the three of them knocked their hooves together.
Twilight’s Castle: 1:30pm
Kanna sat alone at the hologram map of Equestria and rested her head on the crystallized table. She silently thought to herself about how she could get her Cutie Mark if it was even possible.
Kobayashi had been wandering the castle with Tohru to familiarize herself with their temporary home. Eventually, they made their way back to the map to find Kanna sitting there lazily resting her head on the table. Her body seemed a bit droopy as her state had been lowered. Seeing Kanna like this made Kobayashi want to go comfort her so she left Tohru’s side to go do so.
“What’s wrong Kanna? You don’t seem too happy.” Kobayashi said as she sat next to the young ‘filly.’
“I couldn’t get my Cutie Mark today.” She softly answered as she stared off into nothing. Kobayashi rested one of her hooves on Kanna’s shoulders and adjusted her glasses with the other.
“Look, sometimes life just won’t give you what you want. It makes you work for it, so Kanna, if you really want this, you’ll have to work hard for it ok?” Kobayashi stated as she gently petted Kanna’s head.
Tohru simply smiled warmly as she stared at the scene.
I’m so glad that I fell in love with Ms. Kobayashi! Tohru thought to herself as she internally cooed and fawned over her master.
Kanna looked up at Kobayashi with pure determination evident in her lapis-colored eyes. Kobayashi could almost see the fire being set as she continued to glare at the young ‘filly’s’ eyes.
“I won’t give up.” Kanna used as a reply with her small voice.
“That’s the spirit Kanna!” Tohru barged right on in. Just like how she barged into Kobayashi’s life without even knocking.
They all sat there a while and relaxed in each others’ presence until Kobayashi brought up the topic of hunger and lunch. She didn’t even want to move due to the vibe of the entire room. Even so, when one is hungry, they must eat. Kobayashi was the first to rise from her sitting and to speak as well.
“Well, I’m hungry, so who wants lunch?” Kobayashi piped up reluctantly. She really didn’t want to do anything and just enjoy the moment, but her stomach simply wouldn’t let her.
“Mm.” Kanna agreed that she too was hungry as well. Tohru saw that they were both hungry and offered to make lunch for them.
“Not to be rude Tohru, but I’d like to go eat at a restaurant here. I wanna see what they would serve.” Kobayashi cautiously rejected Tohru’s offer. She didn’t need to as Tohru could completely understand why. After all, she had done so herself when she fled to Kobayashi’s world.
“Okay, lets go do that!” Tohru exclaimed enthusiastically. Kobayashi gave a small beam of happiness as she began down the hallway to the library with Tohru and Kanna in tow.
“Where’d she say it was again? Ah, here it is.” Kobayashi mumbled to herself again as she looked the doorway up and down. She reached for the doorknob and had a bit of a struggle opening the door. Eventually she managed to get it open.
Twilight’s ears twitched at the sound of the doorknob being turned and looked over her shoulder to check who it was. Her three house guests were there standing in the doorway.
“Yes?” Twilight encouraged politely.
“We’re gonna go eat lunch out at a restaurant. Would you like to come with us?” Kobayashi invited.
At that, Twilight nearly leaped for joy but caught herself in order not to make a fool of herself.
“Of course I would! Now, considering that you three are new here, you’ll need my help picking out a good place to eat.” Twilight raised a hoof to her chin and gently rubbed her chin in thought as she pondered where they could go for lunch. There were many good restaurants, but she wanted to take them to the best so she had to think a little while.
“Ah ha! Perfect! We can go there. Yup, mhm” Twilight confirmed the restaurant that they would attend for lunch and just like that, they were off.
Ponyville: 1:45pm
“So where exactly are we going Ms. Twilight?” Tohru asked curiously as she latched on to Kobayashi. It had taken her several tries to figure out how to do so in this pony form, but she managed to get by simply brushing up against Kobayashi’s side every now and again.
Twilight could easily giggle and adore their little interactions at Kobayashi’s expense of her being on the edge of tolerance for Tohru’s acts of making some moves that simply aren’t working. At least it always appeared that way. Kobayashi was never too good at speaking her mind, or being open about her feelings. But one day, she’ll tell Tohru how she truly feels about her.
Le Diner: 2:00pm
Twilight suddenly stopped in front of the trio and pointed at the building in front of them excitedly. It had a short fence around a cluster of tables and there were umbrellas over a small few of the outdoor tables. There were small benches at each table, or more like stools? They were too small to be benches though the perfect size to be called a stool.
“Are those the seats?” Tohru snidely remarked.
“Tohru don’t be rude.” Kobayashi scolded. Twilight waved her hoof and giggled.
“Oh no it’s alright, that was my reaction when I first came to eat here too. Let’s go inside, it’s much nicer in there. That’s how this place earned its five star rating after all.” the alicorn laughed.
“I just want food.” Kanna piped up with her small voice.
“Ohhh quite fancy and romantic right Kobayashi?” Tohru asked as she nuzzled Kobayashi’s side, much to Kobayashi’s annoyance, or perhaps embarrassment instead.
“Yeah, that’s not really why we came here.” Kobayashi responded as she kept a straight face.
Twilight giggled to herself as she called for a table of two for the four of them. She and the waiter had mischievous grins and whispered amongst themselves. When they returned, Twilight led Kanna towards a table of two while the waiter led Kobayashi and Tohru to the ‘couple side’ of the restaurant. It wasn’t really intended for that use but all the couples were always sat down there which earned that area it’s name. The smooth and silky mane of the bartender nearly blinded Kobayashi as he turned in their direction with a soft smile. Kobayashi has a feeling that they were being set up for this. Though it was quite obvious what they were up to when the group first split up.
“Twilight is clever. Lady Tohru loves Kobayashi.” Kanna complimented the princess of friendship as she sat across from her. Twilight gladly accepted the praise the adorable little ‘filly.’
“No spying!” Kanna pointed out as she noticed Twilight staring intensely at the “couple.” She gave in to Kanna’s cuteness and finally listened as she began to order with Kanna following suit.
Meanwhile, at their table, Tohru was thinking of a way that she could get Kobayashi to kiss her, and Kobayashi couldn’t help but feel all the eyes of the other ponies and wondered if they were judging them or happily accepting them.
From the looks of it, every pony admired the sight of a same-sex couple. That’s the entire reason why the two were sitting with each other: simply because the waiter who happened to be the owner as well enjoyed seeing these kind of couples in his restaurant.
He walked over to the two of them and asked what he could get for them to drink.
“Do you guys have beer here?” Kobayashi asked as she flipped through her menu and Tohru simply ordered a glass of wine.
The waiter’s eyes widened and he grinned almost evilly as an idea popped into his head. He figured that if he could get Kobayashi drunk enough maybe he could somehow get her to kiss her beloved partner.
“Yes ma’am but we only carry the one who’s mascot is a Clydesdale.” The waiter whispered.
“Are you talking about Budwe-“ Kobayashi was silenced with a hoof to her mouth as the waiter nodded. In order to respect the waiter’s wishes Kobayashi decided to keep her mouth shut about it.
“Okay I’ll take that. I might ask for a couple refills if you don’t mind as well.” Kobayashi politely informed the waiter as Tohru decided on what she wanted to order.
“I’ll take the salad please!” Tohru respectfully ordered. Kobayashi ordered the same.
Kanna ordered a vegetarian burger, though in Equestria it was simply called a burger due to the ponies being herbivores and some juice. Twilight herself had ordered a flower sandwich and some kind of cocktail.
“Is it good here?” Kanna asked in the most polite, and softest way that she could.
Twilight simply beamed softly at the young one and replied with a nod.
She’s too cute for this world. Twilight thought to herself as she cooed over Kanna to herself.
Back at Tohru and Kobayashi’s table, Kobayashi had almost become completely drunk but tried to remain as sober as possible until they left the restaurant at least.
When the food finally arrived at the two tables, both parties tried to be civil with the way that they ate. Since Kanna had figured out how to properly hold an eating utensil in this new form, she had already eaten through half of her meal. Twilight was on her way to finishing as well when she took a glance over at Tohru and Kobayashi.
Since Kobayashi still had trouble with eating correctly in this form, she had asked for Tohru’s assistance. Their mouths almost touched everytime Tohru put another fork-full of salad into Kobayashi’s mouth. It made both of their cheeks turn a rosy color and they could feel their cheeks burning up. You’d think them rude, but everytime Tohru lifted the fork to Kobayashi’s mouth, almost every pony in the restaurant would look at them expectantly and just about sighed in dissatisfaction because they wouldn’t kiss.
“Ms. Kobayashi, why are they all staring at us like that?” Tohru asked as she averted her sunset eyes from Kobayashi’s.
Kobayashi sighed in embarrassment and responded with, “I think it’s because they want us to kiss.”
Tohru’s eyes lit up and she had a mischievous grin.
“Why don’t we just give them what they want?” Tohru snickered in her mind and felt like she could conquer a thousand worlds with this new motivation.
As she leaned in to kiss her master, Kobayashi sighed and leaned in as well. Their lips were so close that only a piece of paper would fit in between them. Every pony including the bartender in the restaurant was glaring at them expectantly with huge smiles on all of their faces. They had all anticipated this moment. So much so that some even stayed a bit longer than they should have to see this cute couple kiss at least once. They were all on the edge of their seats. Right at the last second, Kobayashi turned her head and got close to Tohru’s ear.
“You call that a maid outfit?” She whispered softly as she pulled away and began to scold Tohru on her maid skills. Tohru thought she heard a few compliments but not a lot, as she took on all of Kobayashi’s bombardment of drunken insults to her maid skills.
The entire restaurant sweat dropped and all left with paid bills and not a trace of a single citizen was left.
Twilight herself let her ears fall as Kanna simply stared at the two of them.
After Kobayashi was done, she fell asleep and Tohru caught her and carried her on her back. Twilight kindly paid the bill and both Tohru and Kanna thanked her as they left ‘Le Diner.’
“Thanks, come again sometime.” The owner gladly invited them back whenever they pleased as that was some of the most fun he had ever experienced with a ‘couple.’
Tohru and Twilight simply waved and they made their way home.
Ponyville: 4:05pm
“Wow a lot of time sure passed in there didn’t it?” Tohru asked as she adjusted Kobayashi in a more comfortable position. Though she didn’t do it for herself but rather so that Kobayashi would be more comfortable.
“Yup. You must really care about her. Even then when she’s a totally different person due to alcohol huh?” Twilight was trying not to set the dragon off, even when her particular question wasn’t much of a problem at all.
“I really do. Kobayashi is...she’s my...my light.” Tohru said lovingly. She truly loved Kobayashi, but she simply couldn’t tell if Kobayashi returned her feelings at all.
“To have a love like that is really beautiful. If it helps, I want you guys to be happy with each other.” Twilight smiled.
“Thanks. I hope to make what time we have together worthwhile so that I won’t regret anything when she’s gone.” Tohru replied sadly.
Twilight completely understood that dragons live for quite a long time, even compared to Celestia’s age. She also understood that Kobayashi will eventually die and leave Tohru and Kanna behind. It was quite melancholy really. To think that Kobayashi’s lover would be left alone for the rest of her life after Kobayashi was already long gone and that she had already accepted that fact. It made Twilight want to cry almost at simply the thought of that.
“That must be tough on you. I hope that you can make the best of your time that you have with her. Good luck Tohru.” Twilight said as she gently ruffled Kanna’s hair a bit, and Kanna gladly accepted it.
“Me too.” Tohru said under her breath.
Twilight’s Castle: 4:20pm
“I think we ate lunch and dinner at the diner. I’m not really hungry anymore. What about you Kanna?” Twilight asked as she saw the dragon nod her head in response.
“I’m going to go lay Ms. Kobayashi down. I think that I’ll lay with her until she wakes up as well.” Tohru announced as she began down the hallway to search for a bedroom.
“7th door on the right is the guest room!” Twilight called out to her. She hoped she heard her clear enough to understand.
Luckily, Tohru’s ears being as good as they were, she had heard Twilight.
Once Tohru got to the guest room, she tenderly set Kobayashi down in the bed and squeezed herself in right next to her. She then used her forearms to support herself over Kobayashi’s sleeping form.
I don’t think a little peck would hurt Tohru thought to herself as she leaned down to Kobayashi’s exposed cheek and pecked it softly. She layed back down next to her loved one and told herself that she was going to rest her eyes a little and eventually fell asleep as well.
Hours began to pass, and soon it was night. Every pony in Equestria was getting ready for sleep at this hour. Kanna wanted to sleep with Twilight, and Twilight excitedly allowed it. The moment Kanna entered Twilight’s room, Spike smiled in his sleep because he could feel her presence.
9:54pm
Tohru and Kobayashi had woken up and sat on Twilight’s balcony once they finally figured out how to get up there.
The two of them made small talk and even brought up a little family history here and there.
Sometimes Tohru had a funny story or a depressing one, and sometimes Kobayashi had a life lesson, or a story from her childhood. The night was simply nostalgic, as the crickets sang their night songs, the timber wolves from the forest would occasionally howl a symphony for those who were still awake. The pale moon reflecting off of every body of water was simply beautiful, civilians turned their lights off, owls were ‘hoo-hooing’ and catching mice with their mini talons. A few frogs and toads would come around and give deep croaks and clicks. All the while the two of them were there just witnessing it all, and neither of them wanted an end to come to this precious time.
“It’s amazing how many things are going on during the night. It’s amazing that even though they’re happening, everyone just misses it because they’re all fast asleep.” Kobayashi pointed out as she broke the silence between the two of them.
“Right? Who would wanna miss such a lovely time of day?” Tohru easily agreed, as she had enjoyed the events of nighttime just as much as Kobayashi had herself.
“Even though it is a nice time of day, I can understand why people want to sleep at night. If you think about it, their jobs keep them busy all day and when they get home, all they wanna do is rest and relax. Not enough happens at night for them unless they work a night shift somewhere. They just work all day, then repeat. Simply because they’re adults that must work to support themselves or a family.”
“That was kind of deep Ms. Kobayashi! Quite the wise one aren’t you? Even so, I still get what you mean. I mean, you humans and these ponies are very alike with their inferiorities to dragons, but I can understand why though. As you know dragons don’t need sleep, but we like to do so. Sleeping only really comes in handy for us when we’re trying to heal our wounds faster though, so we use it for that instead of having to use it as a way to eliminate our fatigue.” Tohru explained. Kobayashi was never a fan of Tohru’s habit for calling species that were apparently below her inferior. It was like an insult to all of them, to Kobayashi it always felt a bit rude.
“You seem to forget that I’m one of those inferior beings.” Kobayashi said as she gently flicked Tohru’s forehead.
“Ouch! That hurts.” Tohru remarked as she began to tenderly caress the offended spot on her forehead.
“Well that’s what you get.” Kobayashi gave a little victory grin.
“Anyway, This place is really nice at night Kobayashi! I think I’d love to come here just for a good rest. There’s no loud streets, or beautiful city lights like at home, but it’s still nice.” Tohru commented. She could get used to the way things worked in this world. Even so, she still longed to go home as well.
Kobayashi sighed with content as she looked at Tohru and nodded in agreement. She had to admit, that even though she slept a lot at night, it was still her favorite time of day. Occasionally when she was by herself, before either Tohru or Kanna came into her life, she would get up in the middle of the night for some tea. She would sit by her apartment window and just take in the sites of the city. All the lights coming together in perfect harmony to create a beautiful picture. She never took a picture though because she felt that it would just ruin the moment. She still sits out in her living room at night occasionally, and sips her tea. Though now she does it with Tohru close by her side.
“I like night time. It’s so calm and quiet.” Kobayashi remarked. Tohru simply giggled and nodded her head in agreement.
11:00pm
At Tohru and Kobayashi’s words, a bright, and blinding light appeared in front of them. From that light, a shape was being made, and a voice came from it.
“The night is quite beautiful is it not?” said the voice as a visible horn and a pair of wings were now in plain sight of the shape.
Dragons and Their Territories
New Worlds, Same Companions
Kobayashi's Apartment: 9:00a.m. (Saturday)
Kobayashi silently rested under her kotatsu in the living room and gently sipped her coffee as she closed her eyes in pure bliss of the peaceful moment. Kanna, the young dragon, sat beside her mother-like figure and watched t.v with the same emotionless expression she always wore. Her round, plump head lazily rested on the coffee table. As Tohru worked in the kitchen, she slightly beamed with pride and satisfaction. It was everything she could ever want and more, because Kobayashi was in her life. Kobayashi takes these small snippets of good moments in her life to think about a sheer amount of things. Sometimes, she'll even ask Tohru or Kanna about what their lives were like before they arrived in her world.
Hmm. This is very peaceful. I wonder how often dragons actually get to just sit somewhere and chill out. Do they even get breaks from all the fighting in Tohru's world aside from when they sleep? I wonder how lonely it must've been for Kanna to have to live on her own like that for such a long time. It must have been hard. I want to see Tohru's world. Maybe I can ask her to take me there today. I have nothing better to do anyway. Kobayashi pondered these topics and let them be save for one.
Tohru finished preparing breakfast for the three of them, and headed toward the dining room table with the miso soup in her hands.
"I made breakfast for you guys! If you want it, come get it!" Tohru called out in her usual lighthearted tone of voice.
"Okay, I'm coming. You know, Tohru you don't have to yell. We're in the same room." Kobayashi remarked as she stood up and made her way to the sturdy wooden table.
Kanna trailed behind Kobayashi and walked over to her seat at the table.
"I know, it's just a habit of mine. Sorry for the noise." Tohru replied apologetically. She often apologized when Kobayashi criticized her. Though, she had to admit, it was part of her charm.
"It's fine Tohru, as long as you know." Kobayashi replied casually as she drank her soup. Kanna said nothing and proceeded to eat. Tohru went to sit down so that she could enjoy her creation.
The room was completely silent as they ate in peace. But the silence was broken by a question Kobayashi had.
"Hey Tohru, I've been thinking about this a lot lately, and I wanted to ask you if you could take me to your world." Kobayashi spoke in a very serious tone, which was something that was rarely ever heard from her.
Tohru looked up from her miso soup and stared at Kobayashi with a glint of surprise in her eyes.
"You want to go see it? Really!?" Tohru was overcome by joy and happiness due to Kobayashi's request. Her heart practically bursted out of her chest due to the excitement.
Kanna was fairly surprised too, though, it wasn't present on her face, her eyes told all.
"Yes, I do wanna see your world. I'm just curious about it because you bring it up a lot." Kobayashi replied casually.
"Okay, so when do you want to go?" Tohru questioned excitedly.
"Today."
Tohru almost died from a heart attack. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. The love of her life wanted to see her world. Tohru couldn't be happier if she wanted to. Kanna simply stared at the scene with her eyes filled of wonder and excitement. She was glad that Kobayashi wanted to see what her world was like.
"So, what time today?" Tohru interrogated with much velocity.
"Now."
"You really mean it!?" Tohru couldn't control her enthusiasm and was now in Kobayashi's face.
"Yes, now get out of my face. I'm convinced that you're going to try something stupid." Kobayashi stated as she lightly flicked Tohru's forehead.
"Heeeeyyyyy." Tohru whined as she backed away and rubbed her forehead tenderly as she puffed up her cheeks.
"Are you guys ready to go yet?" Kobayashi asked. You couldn't tell, but there was a hint of eagerness in her voice.
"Yeah!"
"Yes."
Tohru and Kanna spoke in unison.
"Okay, then let's head to the roof." Kobayashi ordered.
On the Roof
"Alright, I've blocked perception of us. We can change back into dragons now." Tohru said to Kanna. Kanna simply nodded her head as a reply.
Because of Tohru's perception blocking spell, Kobayashi couldn't see her or Kanna resulting in her being a little startled when Tohru picked her up and set her down gently on her back. With the contact of Tohru, Kobayashi could now see them as she had been affected by the spell as well. Tohru beat her wings so that she could make a successful lift-off and Kanna followed suite. They flew out to an open area where there were no people. It was the same area where Tohru had taken Kanna to play in before.
Tohru had proceeded to open a portal to travel through to get to her world. It was easy for her to open portals because she was a Dragon who was powerful enough to bring on Armageddon (though sometimes the portals didn't always work how she wanted them to). With a few more flaps of her wings, she was through with Kanna close behind her. Kobayashi smashed down her eyelids to brace for impact. She was amazed to find that the only indication of passing through the portal was the smell of the air. It was new, it was fresh.
Strangely, by the time they got to the other side, the portal closed up without Tohru commanding it to do so.
That's wierd, they normally only close when I do so with my magic. Maybe it's just a one time thing. Tohru thought to herself as she glanced back at the portal. It had took her a bit of a while to notice what happened to Kobayashi.
Kobayashi herself hadn't noticed a change of any kind until she opened her eyes. She looked at the land below them and noticed how fantasy-like it seemed. She noted that there was a small town beneath them and an almost pure white castle off in the distance resting on the side of a mountain. When she looked down at her hands, she saw that they weren't hands anymore. Instead of seeing five stubs on each hand, she saw none and noticed that they were quite bony. She came to the conclusion that they were hooves and that she was no longer human. She lost her mind at that realization.
"TOOOHRUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!" Kobayashi bellowed at the top of her lungs. Tohru winced at the sudden noise and flinched when she turned around to meet Kobayashi's eyes. She noticed how Kobayashi had greatly changed. A small chuckle escaped from her throat as stared. Unfortunately, Kobayashi had heard it.
"You think this is funny? I've changed species entirely! I thought you said there were humans in your world!" Kobayashi had to yell due to the strong wind pressing against her face just for Tohru to hear her. Even so, she did recall Tohru being able to hear her despite the strong wind.
Kanna sped up and leveled her head so that she could speak to Kobayashi properly. She spoke in her Dragon voice.
"Kobayashi. This isn't our home world. You also look like a horse." Kannna declared with her usual soft and bored-sounding voice.
"What the- I'm a horse now? Tohru what the hell! I said to take me to YOUR world not wherever this place is! I've become a freakin' HORSE because of this world!" Kobayashi scolded, which was something she rarely ever did.
"I'm sorry Miss Kobayashi! I don't know why we're here. Usually dragons come here for vacation, or for retirement...or torture the creatures here to vent." Tohru muttered that last part so that Kobayashi couldn't hear her. She couldn't help but laugh at Kobayashi's current situation, but she had to hold it in so that she wouldn't get yelled at any more than she already had been.
"It's okay. Just take me to your world. I know you can, so let's get out of here!" Kobayashi called out to Tohru.
The Everfree Forest: 9:30am (Saturday)
Instead of obeying Kobayashi, Tohru decided to land in a nearby forest with an ominous feel to the atmosphere. It looked like it was night time even in broad daylight. Kanna landed beside them and sat down in front of Kobayashi who was in an irritable mood because of Tohru's rebellious action. She tapped Tohru's scales and asked why she hadn't opened another portal yet.
"Lady Tohru can only use that spell once a day. Occasionally she'll only be able to use it once a week because she rarely ever uses it." Kanna explained. Tohru didn't want to explain it herself because she was too proud to admit that she had a weakness in her magic abilities.
"Oh, so Tohru's just too proud to admit it herself. Well, thanks for telling me that Kanna. I already know Tohru wasn't going to." She gave a small smile to Kanna and reached out to gently pat her soft, furry head. Tohru only looked away and pouted as she puffed her cheeks.
"But why here?" Kobayashi asked as she slid off of Tohru's back and landed face first on the ground earning herself a mouthful of mud, much to her disliking. Kanna stared with amusement, but it didn't show on her face. It was in her big, beautiful, ocean-blue eyes. Tohru snickered slightly as she nudged Kobayashi to help her up.
"Ow."
"Oh my gosh, Miss Kobayashi are you alright?!" Tohru exclaimed with clear concern in her voice and a look of worry in her sunset eyes.
"I'm fine, thanks. Are you going to answer my question no-" Kobayashi looked down and saw that she had no clothes on.
"WHERE ARE MY CLOTHES!? Why am I NAKED. I hate this world already." Kobayashi shrieked. Tohru just stared at her with hunger in her eyes as she thought of many lewd things. Kanna just stared at Thoru with her normal blank expression.
"Lady Tohru is lewd." Kanna stated. Kobayashi agreed with a nod of her head as she turned around to face Tohru.
Standing on all fours was a lot easier than she expected, it was walking that was the real challenge.
"Tohru I'd appreciate it if you stopped staring at me like a pervert." Kobayashi said as tried learning how to properly walk in her new form.
It took her a couple of minutes to relearn how to walk. Tohru and Kanna gazed at her clearly pleased by how entertaining it was to see Kobayashi try to walk like a horse would. She asked Tohru her question about choosing this place again, and Tohru simply answered.
"I don't know, the portal took us here on its own. I don't know why it's acting all strange either. But, there is a lot of magic in this world, so it could possibly be interfering with my magic. Also, it's really hard to say that I probably won't be able to make another portal for about a week." Tohru reluctantly explained that last part.
"Hey, how come you guys still look the same. Is this world biased or something?" Kobayashi asked the two dragons returning to her casual, calm self.
"It's because this world is like a fantasy world. There's dragons here so we don't have to worry about our forms changing." Tohru described for Kobayashi.
"Oh. Well I don't think that we should stay in this forest. I know that you guys are strong and all, but I do not want to stay in a creepy forest for a week. Are there any towns or anything like that nearby?" Kobayashi queried. Though the forest seemed peaceful, she didn't like the dark and creepy vibe that she was getting from the place.
"Yeah actually, there is a town that we flew over just before landing here. We can go there." Tohru replied as she lowered her long, scaly neck so that Kobayashi could climb on to her back.
"Okay, let's go then. Is it far?" Kobayashi asked as she positioned herself comfortably in her new shape on Tohru's back.
"No, we can actually walk there. Though there are a few dangerous creatures in here so I would suggest staying on my back okay?" Tohru explained way too enthusiastically.
"You said that way too casually." Kobayashi remarked as she adjusted her glasses.
Tohru and Kanna walked side by side and made small talk about things that dragons would talk about. Occasionally they would ask Kobayashi questions about what she wanted to see in their world. They'd even give her descriptions of places and told her stories of their home world. Little did they know that a large pack of timber wolves was following close behind them, and watching their every movement from the shadows.
Suddenly, the leader of the timber wolf pack howled and they all attacked at once. Kanna and Tohru were the first to notice due to their dragon reflexes. They readied themselves in a fighting position as the timber wolves charged at them. Tohru blasted them with a black beam that exploded into fire on impact. Kanna took care of the timber wolves that Tohru missed with her own shocking methods. She electrocuted the wood that the wolves were made of causing electrical fires on their bodies. The timber wolves howled in agony as they were torn to pieces by the magical fires that were inflicted onto their woody bodies.
The timber wolves fled in terror and pain. When whatever was left of the pack was no longer in sight, the dragons continued to walk with Kobayashi in a current state of shock.
"Wow. You guys could really just end the world if you really wanted to." Kobayashi pointed out. Tohru was pleased to hear Kobayashi's 'praise' while Kanna simply had stars in her eyes with a feeling of victory rising up inside of her.
Ponyville: 9:37am (Saturday)
Not ten minutes went by when they finally reached the humble town. The only thing is that instead of people walking around, it was a bunch of horses with every color of the rainbow on their coats walking around. To be more precise they were ponies each with a different colored coat. There were blue ones, yellow ones, pink ones, and even purple ones. That wasn't the only thing that the trio noticed. They saw that some had wings, or horns. Tohru and Kanna recognized those races right away: the unicorn, and the pegasus. They even came in different sizes and shapes, there were big ones, small ones, brawny ones, tall ones, scrawny, and short ones. There were some that looked like the children of the species and they all were just walking around the town going on with their own lives. There was one that was different though. In fact, this one wasn't a pony at all, but rather, a small lizard looking thing.
He was a violet color with a green underbelly and deep green eyes with slits as his pupils. He was the first citizen of the small town to notice Kobayashi and her dragons. He was startled as soon as he saw them and sprinted off in a direction that would later be known to the trio as 'Twilight's Castle.'
With that, the three of them walked around the town with curious expressions (except for Kanna of course). As they did so, they noticed how the streets cleared immediately when they stood in plain sight of everpony in town. They all rushed to their homes and pulled in their welcoming rugs. They hid in their respective spots and waited for either somepony to tell them that it was okay, or for the trio to go away. The three of them remained there confused as ever. Then Kobayashi spoke up.
"It looks like you guys scared the whole town." Kobayashi explained as she pointed in the direction of a random building.
"I wonder why." Tohru responded.
"Yeah, I wonder." Kobayashi remarked sarcastically as she rolled her eyes.
A purple pony began walking up to the three of them and looked up at them with a serious, yet slightly frightened expression plastered onto her face. They noticed that she had both a horn and wings. She also seemed slightly taller than the average ponies of her kind. Her wings even looked grander, and bigger than the average Pegasus and her horn was slightly longer than average as well. As she hesitantly approached them, the little lizard was clinging onto one of her hind legs.
"H-hello there m-mighty dragons. Excuse my asking, but who are y-you and why are you h-here?" The violet alicorn asked with a shaky voice.
Tohru lowered her neck so that Kobayashi wouldn't have to fall on her face again when she slid off. When the purple pony saw Ms. Kobayashi she was amazed to find that a pony was able to ride on a dragon's back.
"Hello, my name is Kobayashi, nice to meet you." Kobayashi introduced herself in a civilized manner.
"I am the mighty Tohru Kobayashi: the most powerful dragon you will ever meet. Inferior species such as yourself should be honored to-"
"Her name is Tohru Kobayashi. You'll have to excuse her, she always says things like that." Kobayashi cut her off.
"The white one over there is Kanna Kobayashi. She doesn't talk much but she's a very nice girl." Kobayashi introduced Kanna for her because she knew that Kanna could be quite shy.
"Well, hello there. My name is Twilight Sparkle and this little dragon back here is Spike. Welcome to Ponyville!" Twilight said as she gestured to the town with her right hoof. She managed a small smile as she led them through the town.
Twilight multitasked by reassuring everpony that it was alright for them to come out. The citizens were a bit hesitant at first, but as they saw that the two dragons weren't going to do anything, more of them came out of their closets, and homes and into the street. Though they never took their eyes off the emense dragons. Their sheer size was the main factor to the ponies' fears of them.
"So, guessing by the fact that you all have the same last name, you're a family right?" Twilight questioned. She didn't want to pry but she was curious about them.
"I guess you could say that. Kanna is kind of like a daughter to me, and Tohru is one of my closest friends." Kobayashi answered.
"Awww, that's so cute!" Twilight cooed.
Spike simply stared at the two enormous dragons in awe, and in return he got gazes of curiosity from the both of them. Kanna stared at him the most though.
"So where are we going Ms. Twilight?" Kobayashi asked with her utmost respect.
"We're going to my castle! We can really talk about what we need to when we get there." Twilight gave Kobayashi a smile and a side glare.
"Okay." Kobayashi casually replied.
Spike liked the feeling of soon being able to communicate with older dragons. Most of the older dragons that he met only communicated by roars and snarls. He clenched his fist and brought them to his face in excitement. He anticipated all the conversations that they would have.
