A fusion of love
Leading up to the birth
Previous ChapterNext ChapterLater that week, from Cadence's advice, Spectrum Shine and Magic Flame went to get a sonogram. As the doctor placed the sensors on Spectrum Shine's belly, he asked about hopes for the child.
"Is this your first?" he asked first.Spectrum Shine and Magic Flame nodded.
"Any plans on his or her future?" the doctor asked.
"Not really," Magic Flame said as Spectrum Shine said "Yes." They stared at each other.
"You don't have plans?" Spectrum Shine asked.
"Well, not about what job he'll be in," Magic Flame said. "Whatever he wants to be is what he wants to be, and I'm good with that. What are you planning?" Spectrum Shine crossed her arms, just under her large bust.
"Well, he's going to get a good education and become something really important," she said with a frown. "Like an epic stunts-man or some kind of doctor." Magic Flame shrugged.
"Well, either way, I'm supporting him," he said. Spectrum Shine smiled.
"You're so sweet," she said. She turned to the doctor. "What gender is it?" The doctor was looking confusedly at the screen.
"Well, it's male," he said slowly. "But there's something strange about it."
"Strange how?" Spectrum Shine asked, eyes widening in fear.
"The sonograph keeps glitching," the doctor said. "He looks like a cross between different species. Plus, one second he's in one position, then the next second he's in another."
"That is pretty weird," Flaming Intelligence said. "But he's ok?"
"Oh, yeah," the doctor said. "He's perfectly healthy."
11 months later
Spectrum Shine was giving birth. Magic Flame was pacing outside of the room she was in, glancing at the door every time Spectrum Shine screamed, which was often. This took almost another half an hour, but finally, the door opened and one of the doctors exited the room. He looked at Magic Flame.
"You're the father, right?" he asked. Magic Flame nodded. "Then congratulations! You've got a kid!" The doctor widened the door and Magic Flame entered.Spectrum Shine was holding a tiny blanket with a small baby inside. The color of the fur, if it even was fur, was a deep, midnight blue. His eyes were closed, and he had a horn. Spectrum Shine looked up at Magic Flame with bloodshot eyes, her face soaked with sweat and tears, and smiled.
"He's got your skin," she said. "A mixture of scales, chitin and fur."
"You're already studying him?" Magic Flame asked. "He was just born!" Spectrum Shine giggled.
"Yes, and he's a miracle," she said. "He's an alicorn, by the way."
"Oh, that is awesome," Magic Flame said, his smile widening. "He's an alicorn. It really is a miracle."
"Oh, how many people are waiting outside?"Spectrum Shine asked. Magic Flame sighed. Several months after Spectrum Shine got pregnant, word got out that she was the combination of three princesses, and the reporters were on the story like flies on a dead body. After a few days of being pestered, Spectrum Shine finally gave in, and told them that she really was all three princesses, with the rest of the Elements of Harmony and a few others. And because of that, the hospital was packed with news reporters and whatnot.
"The hallways are packed," Magic Flame said. "It's a miracle that the waiting room was empty." Spectrum Shine was still for a few seconds.
"I'll teleport us home, then," she finally said, before turning to the lead doctor. "It's safe for me to teleport him, right?" The doctor nodded.
"Yes, but before you do, we need a name," he said. Spectrum Shine thought for half a minute before smiling.
"Amalgam," she said. "Now, we'll see you in about a week or so for his check up, ok?" The doctor nodded. Spectrum Shine smiled, nodded, and her horn light up. A few seconds later, a bright light flashed, and they were back at the castle. Apparently, ponies had been waiting outside of the castle, looking in through the windows, because they soon heard cheering. Spectrum Shine scowled and magicked the windows close. Magic Flame frowned.
"Why did ponies have to wait out here?" he said aloud. Spectrum Shine shrugged.
"Let's not focus on that now," she said. "Instead, let's get Amalgam up to his crib. I need to get you back into your original forms anyway." She had said that last bit to Magic Flame. He was surprised.
"Wait, why?" he asked.
"Because first of all, Big Mac needs to get back to the farm," Spectrum Shine said. "Granny Smith and Apple Bloom have gotten a lot of help without Big Mac and Applejack there. And second of all, it'll help to have Spike, Thorax and Sunburst here to help keep Spectrum Shine safe."
"What about you?" Magic Flame asked.
"I need to stay as Spectrum Shine for a while more," Spectrum Shine said. "For at least another month or so. Probably longer than that, though." Magic Flame sighed, but nodded. He didn't like it, but he knew why Spectrum Shine needed to do it.
"Do it," Magic Flame said as he magicked his clothes off. Spectrum Shine's eyes traveled up and down his body for a few seconds before she started charging her spell. As Magic Flame mentally prepared himself for the split, Spectrum Shine casted the spell, bringing all four different people that made him up apart. As Spectrum Shine released the spell, all four people fell to the ground. After 11 months, he was finally 4 different people again. Spectrum Shine needed to remain as she was for a while longer, though. She smiled down at Amalgam as he woke up and started to coo.
