Two G’s in a Pod

Prologue: Luckier Days

By: Stillmatic and Lucius Seneca

Discord threw another bottle at the wall, shattering it. He hazily stepped around, barely able to hold himself up in his drunken state of delirium. It had been quite a bit of time since his second defeat and now there was nothing in harmony's way to spread its infectious self like the disgusting virus it was. His own arrogance turned out to be his downfall, preventing him from moving in time to escape that confounded rainbow that encased him in stone. While he managed to break out after all this time, all of his remaining power was used doing so, leaving him with near nothing. His escape was sloppy and nearly cost him his life in the process, but he did it. He managed to get away in time and preserve his life, for the time being, that is.

The draconequus fell into a bout of depression soon afterwards, wandering around aimlessly during the night, looking for something to sooth his pain of being bested by only a few mere ponies. During the day, he forced himself to sleep in enclosed spaces away from others, biding his time until he could find some source of relief. Chaos ignored him now, not choosing him as its master anymore. The entirety of the situation left him a husk of his former self and without purpose. Every night, he would break into the liquor stores, stealing everything he could, and hiding away until he would move onto the next town the day after.

At this moment, he wandered through an alley, his last bottle of cheap whiskey in hand. There was a brief moment where his eyes narrowed at nothing, just staring at the wall opposite, before he felt the need to down the rest of the alcohol and throw it. It crashed against the brick and shattered into thousands of tiny pieces, his eyes watching as they fell to the floor in a drunken slow-motion. He batted his eyes once before looking at the mess on the filthy alley floor. Slowly, an idea came to him.

Chaos, much like anything else, was earned by conducting activities related to it. He hadn't thought of the idea earlier, but it would make sense for it to come back to him if he proved he could cause it without its presence. Discord gauged his inner magic's level of performance and found it depressingly low. The dimness of it within him was a bitter sight, but he refrained from punching and kicking in agitation and hatred. Nothing like this had ever happened before, and it was simply infuriating to the draconequus.

There wasn't much in the form of magic inside of his body at the moment, but possibly just enough to cause the child of chaos to occur somewhere. That child happened to be bad luck, and given his affinity with it, it would only come out strong and extreme, even with his diminished power. Discord focused his mind, ready to cause some sort of menial amount of disorder. Though, he didn't know where it would occur, but merely that it was definitely going to happen to someone somewhere.

A brief smile crossed Discord's face as he calculated who it would be on the receiving end of his magic, but slowly, the alcohol made itself known again. He floated upwards, barely able to move correctly in his inebriated state of drunkenness. Gradually, he remembered what he just did and yawned loudly, stretching. Things were going to be good for him soon enough, and he'd be able to cause all the chaos he could ever dream of, if his plan worked out. The amount of disorder would eventually stack up, getting higher and higher until he was back to his old self again.

The draconequus teleported through a roof, landing comfily in an unoccupied attic. It wasn't really adequate for someone of his stature, but he coiled up regardless, doing his best to fall asleep. After all, the house may have been abandoned, but the Royal Guards were still on the lookout for him. It was a rough new life, but he was certain he could make it work in time. Only he needed was just a bit of chaos, some bad luck, and unwilling others on the receiving end.

Discord sat up, sweating profusely. It dripped off of his chest, matting his fur. There was a long silence as the nightmares he just experienced caught up with him. There was an insane vividness to them, but they couldn't possibly have been real. The sheer absurdity of what he had seen was proof of that, yet, there was some sort of uncharacteristic guilt within him. What was it he even did last night? He couldn't recall other than drinking and passing out.

Though his dream was quite realistic and remember clearly. The first involved a creature walking through what appeared to be a metropolitan street with others like it. It ended up tripping on a misplaced rock, knocking it forward as some sort of large contraption pulverized its head onto a black road, splattering everything. It was horrifically surreal, but his mind turned to the other nightmare. In it, another creature was in a machine similar to the one the first was killed by, but this metal object on wheels was far smaller and sleeker. Unfortunately, it wasn't very well shown as something jumped in its way, forcing it to swerve and ultimately flying off the side of the road, which happened to be cliff. The drop was far too high to allow anything to survive.

Discord wiped the sweat away, heaving loudly. He slowly calmed down, and assumed his nightmare was simply a trick on part of Princess Luna or some other force that was out for his skin. Eventually, the draconequus fell back asleep, forgetting his dreams as well as what he had did earlier with his magic. Tomorrow was a new day, and a fresh start, one he would repeat for more to come.
