THE ONE WHERE FOME SPOILS: Human Twilight investigates the Fall Formal as it happens and gets caught in the collateral damage of Demon Sunset's rampage, hallucinating her disappointed mother in her final moments... but she still has her part to play, and magic wrenches her back to the land of the living after only a moment in the void that comes after.

The girl's body cools, crushed beneath the rubble like an insect, red leaking through the cracks.
"No," says a voice that is and isn't her mother.
In the distance, a rainbow shines straight up, beautiful and terrible.
The blood stirs.
"No, not yet."
It flows back.
"Not here, not now, and certainly not before all that must happen does happen."
Quietly, the concrete crumbles into sand, the rebar to rust, the brickwork to powder.
"No," says the voice, which sounds like friends Twilight doesn't have, enemies she's never known, a twin who cannot possibly exist. "You have too much to do."
None of it touches the girl's body, organs rebuilding themselves, bones reconnecting, ears deaf to the echoes that will still haunt her nightmares for years to come.
"For we all must play our parts, you and I and even Sunset."
The body shudders as it starts to breathe again. Lurching like a puppet with half its strings cut, it rises and makes its way home. The soul will find it there.
"We all join in the Harmony," says the girl's own voice, "whether we like it or not."
