Chapter 1 - Welcome to Equestria!

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

The Darkness. Why did it feel like such a common welcome to arrive in its abode? To embrace the deep with wide eyes and a smile of depressing intent. Its velvet tendrils coiling around the still body of a young child, penetrating through the deepest recesses of the mind and plaguing it with its terrible power.

For a moment, the seemingly sleeping boy felt at peace. Then a second later, dread wracked his shivering body as the tendrils lifted him in the air. By that time he passed out, unable to see the snapping ivory jaws that were close to devouring him. Would they extinguish the flame of life that dwelled within his heart, or were they another fear to be conquered? Unfortunately, he wouldn't know this, for the boy has luck that stinks like a pile of manure.

Close to retrieving their prize, the jaws suddenly stopped, teeth chattering as if a terrible cold rattled the inky void. Magenta light burst through the crevices of those monstrous teeth, burning them away, as well as the darkness, that was now turning into a melting, bubbling pile. A hiss reverberated within the dark corridor, the tendrils dropping its victim into the inky abyss. He would have fallen into the bubbling sea of choking darkness if not for the light embracing his form, hoisting him up upon a massive sun of the purest light.

He awoke just for a slight moment to see its shining grace, this beautiful sun that saved him. Or maybe it was another enemy. Whatever it was, he accepted the good graces of the holy light. Maybe, just maybe, he'll be lucky...

The sunlight that pierced through the window rested upon a figure with several patches and burn marks. A cast concealed a shimmering blue arm that sparkled in the light, belonging to the one who laid in the hospital bed. His body was bathed in sunlight, although he was unaware of this development. The incessant beeping of the heart monitor made the being stir slightly, before rising from his deep slumber. The awakening was sudden however, jerking somewhat roughly while placing a flat palm upon his beating heart. It came as another surprise that he couldn't move his left arm, and when he tried pain lanced through him. It felt like his arm was crushed by a large boulder

As his body began to relax, he slowly remembered the dream he had. Who was the one that saved him? He was certain that the darkness had been ready to devour the last of himself that made, well - himself. It was obvious through this equipment that was attached to him, that his savior was close by. At least, he hoped so. He needed to thank that wonderful person for their kindness.

But why did he want to thank this person? Something strange inside of him felt that it was pointless and unnecessary, but another familiar feeling wanted to do everything possible to be grateful. It was an internal turmoil that brought upon a ear splitting headache. After the initial pain went away, he needed to analyze the current situation, his surroundings and himself.

Right now he was in a room of marble and gold, although it was quite simple in terms of furniture. The only thing that seemed out of place was the medical equipment, which he assumed was helping him in some way. It was a very comfortable bed, meant for one person. Two square windows, pierced by the warm sunlight, were inlaid with gold. Gold and white seemed to be a theme there.

Speaking of the light, why was he glowing so? He couldn't move away to diminish the effect, but it gave him a warm, fuzzy feeling inside his stomach.

There were a few potted plants here and there on polished wooden end tables. The carpet, not unlike the rest of the room, was white, could tell it was fine and soft. He didn’t have strong opinions when it came to construction and decoration, but it was pretty nice in there. It was like a guest room for royalty. Royalty... wait, what?!

The being that could have saved must have been some form of nobility or high order. There was this horrible feeling that suddenly rose in the pit of his stomach. No reason could be give as to why he felt uneasy being in the iron clad grip of the prestige. But whatever it was, he needed to leave as soon as possible!

Apparently that wasn't going to happen, as he could feel a slight vibration and the smell of ozone. He didn't know what this meant, but the doorknob was opening from the other side. He didn't know what to expect, but even if tried to escape, it would be pointless with his arm and leg in such a damaged state. All he could do was lie down and watch.

And what he saw was a surprise. He had never seen a white horse with wings and a horn. Or...any equine for that matter. It was a beautiful creature that gave off a motherly aura, an aura that felt very comforting and bereft of evil intent. He felt compelled to relax in her presence. Perhaps this was his savior?

He could feel something welling inside the horse's very being. A power that was strong enough to rival a sun and then some. This didn't scare him, oh no. It only intrigued him. Especially that lovely, billowing mane of hers. The consistency reminded him of cotton candy.

Before he could respond, the white horse spoke with a voice that was like a sweet melody in the wind. "I'm glad you're finally awake. You gave us quite a scare."

Wincing slightly, he looked at his broken arm before sighing. As he spoke one could notice that he sounded very childlike and energetic. Unfortunately these qualities were diminished due to his condition. "Are my injuries serious? This is...uncomfortable, to say the least." The cast was seriously itchy.

She shook her head, squinting her eyes ever so seriously. Her long horn was embraced by a magenta aura, casting a spell of levitation on some sort of papers. Reading them over quietly, she started talking. "A head injury. Broken arm and leg. You came in with internal bleeding too. There's also something wrong with the way you distribute magic, but neither the doctors or I understand what that exactly means. Until all is clear, you must stay here and recover."

He didn't understand. What happened to him that caused all these injuries in the first place? When he attempted to remember, he could feel another headache coming in.

“Why am I like this? I can’t remember anything,” he said, concerned.

"I...don't know. You came crashing into the throne room, berserk. Wailing in pain. I was able to sedate you, but not before you harmed some of my little ponies..." She said this as if she was hurt herself. Clearly these ponies were very important to her, which brought another question to mind: why did she spare him?

"Their injuries were not severe, so do not worry. Our scans show you were temporarily possessed. I cannot blame a victim, which is why you're been resting here now. It's been five days since that day."

Five days?! Was her magic that powerful enough to keep him sleeping for so long? Whatever it was, he was relieved no one was severely hurt. Now that she mentioned it, he remembered crashing into something. That was another question that needed answered. And she was courteous enough to give an answer with a smile.

"You crashed into the mountain that the castle is built on. You made a sizeable hole near the peak and my throne room."

All he could do was apologize, but in return he was given a stern look. "Now is the time that I ask you some questions. What are you?"

That was a good question. Not even he could recall who or what he was, although he was able to retain two important details about himself. The last one gave him another headache that continued to bother him as he thought about it. Luckily the first one should have been the most important to remember: an identity.

"I...don't know. My name is Icetra, that much is clear. But I haven't the faintest idea of what I am," he said with a frown.

For a moment, she too frowned, but the frown was quickly replaced by a smile. Walking over to him, she rubbed a tender hoof upon his head, obviously spotting his inner pain. "Now now, don't think too hard on it. You still need to relax."

"I can't help it. Everything has fallen into obscurity. All I can find are the shadows that have devoured the very soul of my being. I feel so – so empty." He was on the brink of tears until he was consoled by the kind being, her gentle touch quietly soothing him.

"Do not worry. Wherever you have fallen from, you have arrived in a good place with kind ponies. Your memories will return to you in time, but for now you must rest. But oh my, I seem to have forgotten my introduction." She stepped back slightly to do a small bow, spreading her beautiful, snow white wings. "My name is Celestia, Solar Diarch of Equestria. Welcome to our humble world, traveler."

He thanked her once more for the introduction and the generosity that she had displayed. She told him that he needed more rest. When she turned around to leave the room, she was stopped in her tracks by his small voice behind her.

"There is something else I feel I need to mention..."

Maybe it was just her imagination, but the mention of this piece of news made her shiver slightly. After hearing what slipped out from his thin lips, all made sense. She could feel her eyes widen in shock, as she stood slack jawed before him. What was told to her shouldn't be possible, but there was no reason for the child to lie to her, especially in his current state.

"I'm the Protector."

Celestia noticeably winced from hearing his answer, but she hastily smiled to reassure him. She began walking away near the door, taking one last look to the amnesiac child. She didn't dare show any negative emotions.

"Do not let it concern you. Everything will come to you in time," she said, staring at him. "I only hope soon." With that she left the room, mumbling to herself.

Giving the poor child more questions, there was nothing he could do but think.. His mysterious arrival on this new planet, his berserk mindset when entering this world, and the loss of his memory. So many details desired to be put in place, but nothing revealed itself. There was also this - empty feeling that made him feel hollow inside, like there was something missing, but he couldn't place what it could be. It was like he was living a life that shouldn't have existed.

At least he was coherent enough to speak. But nothing came to when dealing with his origin, his species, or even his fate. Everything was nothing more than a huge blank, as if the darkness devoured all that existed within him.Was this what amnesiacs felt like? It was a horrible experience, that's for sure. Yet it felt...familiar. How bizarre.

It was a fruitless endeavor to continue this, so it was back to hopefully a peaceful slumber. Through continuous fluffing his pillows and turning about constantly, he was eventually able to fall asleep. His lustrous form dimmed down somewhat, the iridescent glow moving calmly like billowing waves.

...And as soon as he fell into a slumber he arrived within a room bereft of furniture and decoration. It was a place that contained only sterile, blank walls that extended a massive distance, maybe even endless. Slightly stunned by this new environment, he searched around the room to find, well...anything that would seem out of place. He couldn't make out what this place exactly was, but he intended to find out.

After what felt like hours of travel did he finally find something. Facing him was a lantern that emitted a red light, sitting atop a mahogany end table. Alongside it was a polished wooden armoire with an ebony recliner that held a mysterious figure. He obviously didn't know who or what it was, but before he could say anything, the room echoed with an ear-piercing voice.

"You have finally arrived, foreign inhabitant of this land. Now a loner, wandering the sands of obscurity, trying to search for what was lost. Unaware that it is a pointless action."

This made Icetra frown, and he felt his face burn in tact with his rising anger. He scoffed at the voice with obvious frustration. "Then tell me, what I should do. Maybe prance around in a tutu to discover I'm a ballerina?"

"Nothing so feminine, though you certainly have the frame. No, telling you what you should do doesn't mean it is the right course of action. You have the choice to create your own destiny, to weave the threads of fate on your own. A dangerous power in the hands of a child."

Icetra chuckled at the voice's silly words, plopping down unceremoniously. "I may have an empty mind, but I have sense to know that we're all bound by fate. Nothing in the Omniverse can change that."

The voice let out a hearty laugh, shaking the very foundation of the endless unknown. It was at this time that the man who was sitting down now began to rise. Icetra could make out bountiful locks of straight, black hair that spilled down to the male's waist. Once the stranger turned around to face Icetra, he noticed the chocolate complexion of the man that stood before him. He was wearing a blank stare that was unreadable. What was creepy about this man was the lack of pupils in his eyes. All that existed was a sea of milky white.

Garments of flowing silk and ruby adorned his body, alongside a scarf that reached down to his knees. Silk gloves wrapped around slender fingers, a golden ring was wrapped snugly around his ring finger. White leggings with black laces and steel-toed shoes met the sterile ground slowly but confident and proud. A belt with a ruby center was worn tightly around his waist, as well a black bowtie that fastened the silk together. As the man walked towards him, he could hear the clinking of metal hitting against the floor, and from the sound of it, he was heavily armored.

The wizard stopped in his tracks, about five metres away from the confused amnesiac. He could only smile from such a display, arrogant as it might be. His voice should have been fitting for a wizard that produced such a volume of magic, although it was youthful; soft, yet somewhat deep. "I am someone from a past you cannot recall in your current mindset. It is impossible to acquire through rest and time, only in adventure and battle will you find what you seek."

The idea of battle scared the timid teenager for obvious reasons. It summoned a fear that shook his foundation, knowing in his heart that fighting was a bad idea. But if what this man said was true, he wouldn’t be able to retrieve his memories without getting his hands dirty. So he needed to buck up and face this mysterious fear with all the strength that he had. He straightened up with a determined expression, ready to face the dangers of the world.

"Unfortunately, you will not be facing any danger until you realize what you truly are. The land of Equestria should help with the first task. If you cannot do this, then you will fall into the darkness once more."

Whew. For a moment he thought he had to head straight into battle! That was a load off. Recovering first did seem to be the best option, and he didn’t have a choice in the matter. But what did he mean by 'fall into the darkness'? He'd done it before? Maybe he was referring to that dream he had. He was about to ask the question, until he was silenced by the wizard's risen hand.

"Fret not about your worries. All will come into place if you allow it to. But I have wasted enough time, and must be elsewhere." A circle of intricate designs and runes was summoned beneath the wizard's feet. In a shower of light, the man dematerialized into orbs of light. "We shall meet again once your first trial is over. I wish you luck, Icetra." By the time he finished talking time he had already dispersed into light, absorbed by the dissipating spell.

In that moment, a bright light engulfed the blank surroundings, drinking in everything in it's path.

Ah, the start of a new day just waiting to be explored. Icetra rose up from his bed, aimlessly looking around with heavy, drowsy eyelids. A yawn escaped from his mouth, inadvertently causing him to stretch his arms upward, long and wide. Placing two fingers each on both eyes, he rubbed them carefully so as to not stick himself while relieving his eyes of the sandman's dust. Once more a loud yawn stretched open his mouth so wide it revealed his sharp teeth.

The windows were beaming with precious sunlight, bathing the room in natural light. There was no need of electricity when the sun could supply him with all the joys that he desired. Tilting his head slightly, he could see through the window that it was a pleasant day. Puffy, delicious white clouds were painted on a picturesque blue sky. A perfect day to explore and run wild into the verdant fields of green outside Canterlot Castle.

That was, if a certain boy could use his legs. The injury was a serious hindrance. There was no certainty that he was a man of adventure, but the craving of going outside to do something adventurous was screaming at him like a wailing ghost, pushing him onward to explore the depths of this new world. But there was nothing he could, for his handicap limited him to a simple wheelchair that stood next to the bed.

He stared at it with a fiery glint in his pupils. He wanted to dismantle, annihilate and destroy that humiliating and awkward device, but he couldn't punch it with his good arm even if he could. For reasons unknown, those vivid dreams seriously drained much of his strength, and at this current moment it was a miracle that he could even move. Everything felt so natural, from waking up to yawning; even stretching had felt natural. After realizing this crucial fact the soreness rapidly came in. It was as if he had really experienced all of those events, while the source of trauma coming from them were just transferred to his body. Yet, while the rest gave him a mixture of pain, terrifying thoughts and a quivering lower lip, he quickly perked up after imagining that last dream.

It was so sad, yet there was a feeling of longing for that strange woman he encountered. As if she was a great source of inspiration that was now gone from his life. It left him with a feeling of deepening sadness that that felt like he could have practically drowned on it, but something told him, in the recesses of his mind, that everything would be alright. He was sure that he'd meet this woman again. If time would allow it.

Positioning the wheelchair so that the seat was right behind him. He dragged himself across the bed until his bottom plopped right onto the cushion, causing him to slightly wince from a small sting of pain. If he had the upper body strength he could merely hoist himself to the wheelchair, but his frame told many people that he was built for agility, not strength. He decided that he should evaluate himself once more.

Icetra possessed a thin, lithe form that was dotted with miniature clusters of ice and crystal around the sides of his neck, the bottom of the cheeks and scattered around the rest of his body. In the sunlight, he knew that his aquamarine-like body changed, as if they were moving currents of clear water. He wasn't sure what caused it, but he was very sure it had to been a particular time in the sunlight, because right now the effect wasn't active. Puzzled by this, he shook his head before continuing to analyze himself.

Noting his hands, they were both crystallized with this strange substance that was cool to the touch, and he was pretty sure if held long enough, it would turn chilly to the other recipient. He couldn't feel it himself due to his affiliation with the element of ice, so that was cool. The only thing to note now was his feet, which only had three long toes and a hind-claw on the back. It reminded him of feet that a beast would have, but it was possible he was some kind of feral creature. Then why was the rest of his body so different from his feet? Maybe he should find some bandages, wrap them up and hide these ghastly extremities from the rest of the world.

Yeah, that sounds about right.

It was then he felt through the strands of sapphire hair. It was spiky and long enough to form bangs, but straightened and short enough that it only grew to his neck. Feeling through it he could tell the texture was soft, yet slightly matted and rough. He’d need to remember to find some way to take a shower, lest it'll be damaged.

Oh, he couldn't forgot his attire, which consisted of a flowing light green gown. Mainly used for the patients, it was a piece of clothing that felt more free than what he left with. From the looks of his old attire that he could barely remember it appeared to be, well – constricting. Ah well, he'll find out what it feels like soon. Maybe he'll luck out and it'll be enchanted!

Now to check my stats. Whatever that means.

By just thinking about it, numbers and letters popped up to form equations and mathematical problems that formed and created his current stats, a 'list' that is important for anyone alive to keep track of. Questioning as to how he obtained this knowledge was - questionable. He was shocked at the results.

So many empty spaces. Probably because of my amnesia. And what's with the title and level? Ugh! I'm pathetic. So I have no choice but to grind. Whatever that means.

Now that that was out of the way, it was time to find some bandages to cover these disgusting toes. But he considered the problem of the ponies accepting his request, since it was selfish and a bit unorthodox. But still it couldn't hurt to ask. Right? Doubt ready in his mind, he released a pensive sigh and took one last look at his feet, turning away hastily in disgust.

Grabbing both wheels he pushed them slightly until he gained little momentum. He wheeled himself until he reached the door, where he leaned upwards to turn the golden knob and open the door. After that it was back to moving these oversized wheels. If he couldn't explore the outside world, then he sure as well was going to explore this gargantuan of a castle!

Through the beginnings of his adventure he felt that someone was going to impede his path, but so far after wheeling through the red velvet carpet, so far nothing had happened. This brought a silly smile on his face that was reminiscent of a drunkard whose partied and had too much. And why wouldn't he? Exploring was so exciting! For this unknown reason he had the strongest feeling to just search through every nook and cranny, discover every secret, and chart out new and strange lands. But for now he'll have to settle with the castle.

It was certain that today's adventure wouldn't be long, for the castle was just...too much to bear. The themes of marble and gold were ever present in the carved walls. Shades of purple was also apparent, as well the banners of the Equestrian nation which also took the royal hue of purple, blue and gold. He wasn't sure on the design, but it was pretty cool.

Giant windows as far as the eye could see extended from the long corridor that appeared to be endless. Bally blue blazes, there was no end to this hallway! By the time he could really kick start his adventure his arms are going to be sore and tired! That didn't sit well with the sighing boy, who looked like he was on the razor thin edges of boredom.

For two minutes he prevailed and conquered the long hallway, and looked back with a smirk on his face, yelling, "I beat you!" His voice echoed throughout the empty corridors, his triumphant call apparent to anyone that was in there. Alas, no one was in there to experience his well deserved victory, so he turned back and began wheeling himself deeper into the castle.

But no matter what he did, all he saw was corridors, crossroads, more rooms, and the occasional staff who would look back twice like they were seeing things. What was so off about a aquamarine-skinned boy that was in a wheelchair? Maybe it was because of the events that unfolded yesterday when he crashed into the throne room. It should have been known to Icetra that the people would have already known everything that transpired that fateful day.

Ah well. There was no point griping about it. There was some excitement exploring the endless corridors that was a constant friend to the doughy eyed 'traveler'. He couldn't really explain how, but it was the only way to make this exploration something fun. After all, this was all he could until his legs recovered. There was no way he could walk up the stairs unless he had some of assistance. And who knows how long that will be? It may take days, weeks, months, years --

By the stars. I'm doomed.

No -- no. He wasn't going to cry. That wouldn't be very manly, now would it? No, he needed to stay positive in this terrible storm of weakness. Now was time to stay strong and persevere through every that life throws him! It was time to be inspirational! To be profound! To be – well, the idea is simple to understand.

Icetra was rightly pumped as heck, and had the energy to wheel himself even faster than before. Maybe a little bit too fast, because he was leaving behind a dust cloud that rattled the confused minds of the working staff. The onlooking staff members just shrugged and continue to do their business, assuming that it was more crazy nonsense that they shouldn't get involved in.

He came to a screeching halt when he passed by a large purple wooden door that towered over him by three times his height. There was a red cross surrounded by a circle of white, something of which Icetra didn't recognize. Interested in what was inside this room, he placed his fingers between the cracks of the door and whispered out, "Open sesame!" Whenever it was the utterance or his force, it shall be unknown how the door truly opened, but one could see he was giddy. Although when the door opened it was only by a little bit, just enough for a crack to form so that one of his energetic eyes could peer through.

Looking inside he spotted several strange equipment and could hear the signs of beeping and wheezing air. Being that he wasn't familiar with medical equipment he couldn't tell that he was inside the hospital. Although it was the length and width of a nurse's office, it still held the equipment necessary to treat patients. But all that he could guess that he was peering through some strange room that carried strange, intricate machinery that could have done anything, such is the naivety of Icetra. Growing curious he opened the door fully, creaking at his forceful touch.

The only ones inside the room was a couple of nurses and some filled beds that carried the sick and injured, but from what Icetra could it was nothing too serious. Turning his head around he spotted a chocolate brown pegasus and a Earth pony with a purple coat and a emerald mane, conversing with each other. His ears perked up at the sounds of voices, outwardly stretching slightly so that he could get a better 'signal', all the while wheeling over to the desk.

"For the last time Lindt, you're not sick," said the emerald-maned pony matter-of-factly.

"B-But I have these chest pains, a-and a massive headache that's keeping me from writing!" The chocolate pony known as Lindt blurted out hastily, a strand of nervousness wracking his form.

"As I've said time and time again, I could not find nothing serious. It must be your overactive imagination again," said the purple pony, mindlessly searching through the pages on her clipboard.

"Oh c'mon Emmy," uttered the nervous Lindt, "you have to believe me!"

"It's hard to accept that every time you come here you complain about a sickness, and even more difficult to believe it's some silly prediction."

"But it's true," blurting it out as if it were fact, "the chest pains means that something baaaaad is going to happen!"

"Listen --"

Before Icetra could catch those last words, he bumped into the desk abruptly, drawing the attention of the creamy Earth pony who bore a blazing red mane. She looked about him with small amounts of confusion that only began to increase, trying to recall who or what this...'thing' was. Sparing a few short glaces, it appeared to be a bipedaled being that had blue skin. It was bizzare to the bewildered pony, who couldn't stop looking at him.

"Um...are you alright?" Icetra questioned, the confusion in the pony's face evident to the surprised boy.

"W-What are you?" she asked this with fear beginning to bubble onto the surface.

"That's a strange question, don't you think?" He said with a devilish grin on his face, flashing those dangerous canines of his which probably didn't help the situation. "It's always best to give out your name if you desire mine." He uttered this with oozing confidence pouring out of every word.

"M-My name is Ember..."

"I thank you, madam. Please, know me as Icetra, if you will."

"O-okay," said a slowly blushing mare.

Placing a bent arm onto the desk, he leaned over close to gaze into those precious eyes of fiery red, smiling wryly, "Are you scared of me Ember?"

She wanted to nod her head, but for consideration to the 'gentleman', she shook her head sheepishly. Looking downward to face her hooves, she spoke in a manner that quite cute but was obviously she was terrified of his presence.

"Um...n-no."

Icetra could sense and see that she was terrified of his presence, which only brought the heavy weight of sadness upon his beating heart. He was determined to ease the soul of this pony, as she may very well be the one that'll have the honor of being his first friend. He talked in a gentle manner, much like one does to a scared animal, but poured as much kindness and honesty into his words as humanly possible.

"It's obvious that you're terrified of me because of yesterday, right?"

Ember didn't say anything at first, keeping her head down. After a few seconds she muttered something that was almost incomprehensible, which made Icetra question her once more. Finally she responded in a way that made some sense, but it was quiet and shy.

"Y-Yes..."

Icetra shook his head, forming a pleasant smile. Ruffling up his hair sheepishly, he chuckled sheepishly, tiling his head north westward just to face a light bulb hanging on the ceiling.

"Your Princess Celestia is a honest, good mare who would never jeopardize the livelihoods of her people. Wouldn't that mean that by not banishing me to reaches unknown, she has placed her trust in someone that is confident he shall not harm her precious citizens?"

Her ears flattened, backing away a little bit in shock. But then after she began to think about his words, her ears jolted upward before slowly flattening back. She closed her eyes and sighed, slowing nodding in agreement to Icetra's speech. A smile began to form on Ember's face, revealed to the strange visitor. This only brought Icetra's smile to widen considerably, to the point that it seemed almost inhuman.

"Yeah, I guess you're right. I'm sorry I just assumed you were some monster. But it happened all so suddenly," she said shyly.

Mission Accomplished! Or maybe he would regret thinking those words prematurely, although he was quite sure the problem was rectified. But maybe for those two other ponies it was too late, for they were already long gone during the conversation. Sighing, he directed his full attention back to the adorable Ember, who was doing yet another quick analyses toward the smiling boy. But this time it wasn't out of fear, but of undiluted curiosity.

"So really...w-what are you?"

Icetra tapped a lone finger upon his chin, trying to come up with an answer that was relevant to the question. But no matter how hard he thought of it, there was no way that question could be answered so easily if his memories were truly gone. Regrettably he responded back with a sad undertone in his voice, shrugging his shoulders with a frown on his face.

"Sorry...but I can't really answer that. Amnesia is a brutal customer."

Ember frowned, placing a conforting hoof upon his shoulder while patting it calmly. " Oh, you poor thing. It must be hard."

Icetra once more shrugged his shoulders, not seemingly caring much about his 'dire' fate. "It bothered me at first, but now I'm just taking life in strides. If something happens, it happens. All I can do is live my life and prosper under its firm grace."

Ember smiled serenely at his uplifting response. "What a positive way to look at life. I'm rooting for you all the way!"

"Thank you! It's nice to know I have a friend backing me up!"

Ember looked confused, tilting her head rightward while gazing towards Icetra. "F-Friend?"

Icetra blinked outwardly, scrunching up his face slightly as he clapped his hands together excitedly. "Yes! Is that a problem?"

"W-Well, isn't that a little too soon? I just met you."

"Oh please!" he said loud enough to rouse up some of the sleeping patients. "It's never a bad thing to have alot of friends, even if it a first meeting. After all, a good friend is what you need to perk you up on any sad day!"

Ember talked in a hushed voice, placing a hoof on her mouth as she tried to shush him. "Shh! You'll wake up the patients."

Icetra nervously laughed, scratching the corner of his mouth sheepishly while bearing a goofy smile. "Ehehe...sorry. But you get what I mean, right?"

Ember nodded, although she still wasn't exactly sure that it was a good idea to make friends with this mysterious being so suddenly. Although maybe it wouldn't be so bad, since she can study him more closely. Her eyes turned into fiery flames at this thought, although it was a phenom that wasn't noticeable to Icetra. It would have kept on if she didn't keep her composure, lightly breathing before responding back to the eternal smiling boy.

"W-Well...we would have to spend more time together. Getting to know each other."

Icetra pondered this for a moment, and couldn't agree with her more! Nodding vigorously he kept up that smiling, joyous expression while responding happily to the mare.

"I couldn't agree with you more. Let's make a date of it, shall we?"

Ember blushed profusely, grabbing her burning face with her forelegs while wearing a bashful smile. "W-W-What?!"

Icetra just blinked at her, pratically raising a question mark above his head. Planting a fingertip upon his soft cheek, he merely stared at her.

"Huh? All I'm asking is that we just spend some time together so we can be friends."

Ember grasped her chest and released a heavy breath, relieving herself of that embarrassing moment. "O-Oh, I see. Yes, let's," she said with a gentle smile.

"What's a good time for you?" asked Icetra

Ember paused for a moment, but then responded back, albeit quiet. "Oh, uh how about Tuesday at five-thirty PM?"

"I kinda don't have a calendar."

"It's in four more days," she said casually.

"Oh. Well, I shall be free. On any day really."

"Good to hear," she said with a wink and a smile.

Icetra visibly blushed, beginning to laugh sheepishly. Ember too began to laugh in the same manner, and they would continue to do this if not for the single thought that intruded in Icetra's mind. Interrupting the laughter he asked her a question that he was unsure of asking, but, well, he did it anyway.

"Do you have any bandages?"

And so the bandage clad 'warrior' came out from the room, his feet wrapped around with white strips of cloth that effortlessly concealed his disgusting feet. At first Icetra had to explain the reason as to why he needed them, because Ember was surprised that he needed those bandages. She was afraid that he was wounded, or something that concerned bloody appendages and other foul things that was directly linked to blood. But no, it was just to cover his feet.

She responded with the blankest stare Icetra has possibly seen, maybe even before he obtained amnesia. With some sweet talking and a little bit of explanation on the fact that his feet were ugly and ghoulish, she procured him some strips to help him with his trouble. This was to be sure his great efforts of convincing the lady to become friends with him, which explained why he wore his cocky grin.

Now he needed to decide what to do next. There was the chance to explore the castle again, but he'll have to face the onslaught of corridors and the infinite doors that peppered the hallways. He could always try to find the library, but he wouldn't know where to start. But if he could find it should give him a helping chance to study this new world. Learning new legends, seeing different types of flora and fauna, experiencing the riveting tales of several literature lining the bookshelves. Ah, books were so wonderful. Icetra was pratically drooling from the very thought of exploring those 'papery' depths.

"Wait. I could just always ask Ember."

Well that was a solution that was easily. Opening the doors once more he wheeled over to Ember and asked her where the library was. With some directions and bit of explaining pertaining to navigating the castle, he now has precise information that'll lead to his treasure trove of knowledge. But before he had the chance to leave, Ember called out to him which caused him to turn his head over to the mare's direction.

"Maybe you should ask the princess for a pass. The librarian is really funny on who she lends books to."

"Hm. Good to know. Where could I find the princess?"

"Right now she's in Day Court. Just take a left and then a right when you arrive at the library, then go all the wait straight until you see a line. That's where the throne room is."

"Day Court?"

"Celestia lets the citizens discuss their problems and appeals to her, and depending on the situation she tends to it. It's the same for our Princess Luna, only that's Night Court."

Luna? That was a new face of royalty he assumed he was going to eventually meet, so he didn't even bother asking who she was. Instead he thanked her for those lovely answers, and left the large nurse's office. But first he needed to head back to his room and find a quill and paper so that he can chart down these directions. If it wasn't clear enough, his memory was piss poor, so having those directions is going to be immensely helpful with his 'quest'.

Opening the door to his room he instantly spotted a bottle of ink and a quill laying there on the end table. He was able to find some paper in the mahogany desk beside the window, though it was scattered with other junk such as hard candies and change. Grabbing at least two pieces of paper, he jotted down some rough directions and a little map that he surmised that'll be filled out as he goes along. After writing down the proper instructions that led to the library, he grabbed the pieces of paper, refilled the quill with ink, and placed them on his lap. After that it was time to head off to the library.

Left, left, right, left, right...

Following those set of commands along with a few twists and turns here and there led him to the entrance to the library. This door was smaller than the others, bearing a light purple coloring on the wood. Emblazoned on the door was golden letters simply saying, "Library," right on the top of the door. The doorknob was also richly prominent, appearing to be made entirely out either diamond or crystal.

Here lies a room that was rich with unknown knowledges and key elements that should be of a great help to his future endeavors. He wasn't going to stay here forever after all, and there will come a time when he'll explore this land to its fullest. But for that to work he'll need all the intellect and knowledge he could receive by learning as much as he could about this strange magical world.

Placing a wrapped hand around the fancy doorknob, he would twist and turn it until he remembered the vital words of a certain nurse. With a frown he released his grip, nodding solemnly. Before he could do anything he'll need to talk to the princess for a pass. After that this little trial will be over.

First he had to write down the necessary scribble scrabble so that he can remember where he needed to go as well as lead him back to his room. He still couldn't understand why his room was so far away from what he considered the main attractions of the castle. It was almost infuriating if he was capable of performing that angry emotion. Jotting down, "Left, right, straight down until you see a line," he was now prepared to wheel himself to the throne room.

He had no troubles traveling through the corridors, although the few dirty looks he received from some of the staff was enough to somewhat diminish his mood. Not enough for depression, but it was strong enough to dull down his initial excitement. Now he wore a expression of serious intent, ready to accomplish this little mission and bury himself in his precious books.

Assuming that a few minutes had passed, lo and behold there was a long line of crowded ponies. Each of them wore expressions of different qualities, though most of them presented themselves sour or angry. Some were garbed in fanciful attire that Icetra could tell from first glance they were nobles. Quietly pushing the wheels he shifted through the crowd and wheeled on over to the end of the line, ignoring the shady looks of the ponies.

None of them said anything, but one noble in particular was hyperventilating from his very appearance. He soon ran off screaming in the distance, which made Icetra wince. Was his appearance that off putting? He didn't exactly look fearsome. Maybe these ponies were very skittish? That could happen in a world where peace reigns and chaos is lacking.

He wasn't going to let this keep him down. No sir! Without the approval of the princess he couldn't retreat to his beloved books, so there was no way he was going to let these ponies scare him off in a once in a lifetime chance! With a silent fist pump, he steeled himself for the long duration of time that would soon pass. That caused a few glances.

He didn't dare try to talk to one of the ponies. No matter how much he wanted to, he knew that these ponies may be a different cut than Ember. He couldn't explain why, but there was a aura of keen consideration when talking to the demure mare. Something about her enveloped warmness around his heart, easing all the troubles that burdened him. But these ponies were absolutely terrified of him, their hearts fluttering with fear and turmoil. Some were even shaking, but that didn't seem to daunt them. Was Day Court that much of a big deal here? He didn't understand why the line was so long if this court was only for emergencies.

After waiting in line for what felt like twenty minutes, he could finally get a good look at Celestia. But despite the close distance she still didn't notice him. It could have done with the heated argument between her and a noble. It was something complicated about land and some placed called Ponyville. Apparently the stallion wanted to bulldoze the land to benefit the 'stability of the rich'. Bah. Just another rich jerk that wants to bring trouble to decent, hard working folk. Then he caught the mention of an 'atrocious beast', which made Icetra listen.

But his ears quivered and sunk slightly after hearing the barrage of insults toward him, and the dirty looks that the stallion shot to him. This drew Celestia's attention to look up slightly so that her eye can catch the saddened visage of Icetra. She audibly tsked, looking back to the stallion with the same motherly look.

"You have come here time and time again, making this offer. But I cannot allow myself to endanger the good folks of Ponyville just to help your profits. Good day, Laphir."

The stallion known as Laphir audibly mumbled something incoherent, but he still considered his manners and bowed before the princess. He trotted out of the throne room, but not before spitting out a dirty word that maaaaybe the narrator should not mention. Icetra didn't look too surprised, nor was his anger flaring up. Instead he took the word like a man should and wheeled himself over to the throne.

Sitting upon a raised dais, a pond was located underneath where the majestic throne sat, pouring out crystal clear water. Throughout the entire time waiting, Icetra appreciated the length of this throne and the beauty it presented, and he still did. Stained windows depicting the cycles of the sun and moon bloomed beautifully in the sunlight. Red carpet extended until it stopped at the entranced, embroidered with gold. Two golden flat pots held two purple flowers that looked absolutely breathtaking. Behind the throne were the Equestria banners. One depicted the sun beaming down upon a lone tree, while the other, well, he was uncertain but he was sure it had something to do with the moon.

"It is good to see you again, Icetra. Are you faring well?"

"Yes. That embarrassing moment yesterday was a moment of weakness, but I'm sure I'm fine now. Well," he looking himself over while laughing, "if you can call it that."

"Unfortunately we are not sure when you'll recover. As I said our magic is being rejected into your body, so we cannot recover the damaged wounds. All we can rely on is time."

"Ugh. Waiting? So booooring!" He uttered this in a childish manner, under the throes of a temper tantrum fit for a spoiled kid.

"I am aware of that, but that's all we can do. Now," she said while changing the subject, "what can I do for you?"

"Oh, uh," he said while calming down. "I need a library pass."

"Simple enough." Her horn glittered with magic, the princesses focusing just a little bit. In moment a puff of smoke revealed a library pass with Icetra's name, picture, and other information. It floated towards Icetra until he grabbed it hastily, practically drooling at the sight of it. Now he can enter the library! Oh, happy day!

"I see someone is excited about learning," Celestia said while smirking.

Icetra smiled bashfully, rubbing the back of his head softly. "Ehehe. Yeah, I am."

"Good. Maybe reading those books may assist you with your little predicament."

"That's what I'm betting on. Oh, before I forget --"

"Yes?"

Icetra looked around, trying to see if there was anyone else in the throne room. But currently it was just them conversing. Ensured that it was empty he directed his attention back to Celestia. " Why was it so crowded?"

Celestia released a heavy sigh, sitting up from the throne. She walked towards Icetra but then halted after she passed the dais. Her face tensed up and made this expression that appeared so serious, enough that it gave Icetra goosebumps.

"All those complaints were about the massive hole, and the one who made it."

"Hole?" he questioned as he looked around. Before his eyes above was a massive, gaping hole that was five times the size of himself. To think that he created a hole of this magnitude was so baffling that he was lost for words. But he beated himself up even more for not noticing it earlier.

"It's not everyday the seat of power is invaded. Naturally the citizens should be worried. But I am afraid they're beginning to be possessed by the temptation of violence. They know that you're here, Icetra, and they're enraged that I have kept you here under my good graces."

"Listen princess, if you want to punish me --"

"I have no intention of harming an innocent. My people must deal with this reality."

"...But I do deserve some sort of penance. I'm no criminal, but if I've placed fear in the hearts of the people, it is my desire to help replace it with calmness."

"I cannot see how you can do this, but I see you are honest." She said this before pausing, placing a hoof upon her chin. It fell back into place as she walked over to place a hoof right on Icetra's shoulder. The smiling visage of the princess was truly a comforting sight.

"I will think of a way to help. Please, give me time."

"I shall princess. And thank you," he said as he bowed his upper body.

"You're too much of a good natured person, you know."

"That's my style!"

She giggled at his excitement, patting him on the shoulder. "Now, maybe you should go to the library?"

"Oh, I almost forgot! Gah, how could I?!" He said loudly as he turned around and began wheeling himself toward the entrance of the throne room. But not before waving to her and saying the words, "See ya later princess!" He soon left the throne room, and began his pursuit toward the library.

Meanwhile Celestia wore a serene smile, sighing contently as she trotted over back to the throne room. Plopping her bottom back in place, she sat on the throne while closing her eyes. Under the throes of thinking she looked up back to the spot where Icetra was.

"I only hope it's nothing terrible," she said, downhearted.

Deep inside the thickness of the Everfree Forest slept some of the greatest, most feared creatures in existence. Challenging the fabled cockatrice would spell certain imprisonment, or facing the chimera meant one's death would be slow and painful as that challenger is devoured. Facing just a single beast is one thing, but a hoard was something else. To face even one of these beings was a fight that would be to the death, and by feeding on the invisible magic in the air it's no wonder why these beasts have triumphed over every fight their way.

A hoard of these species laid dead, clumps of blood staining the blades of dark green. Somehow a sharp beak was embedded on the bark of one of the trees, and the splattering of crimson was prevalent around the large proximity of the battle. There was even a strange tendril shaped as a phallus, continuing to wiggle about while leaking a viscous fluid. It soon was bereft of life, much to the satisfaction of the warrior that killed them all.

In the shadows of the Everfree it was impossible to make out who or what the warrior was, but it was simply to see that flashing cheshire grin that gleamed in the darkness, full of devious and wicked intent. The clumps and splatters of blood was now beginning to be drawn from their locations, swirling around as if dancing with each other. The performance formed a sphere of blood that bubbled occasionally, floating alongside the warrior. It then went toward the open palm of the mysterious being, floating upward before this mad person.

While one would expect the cliche cackles of a demented being, nothing came to. Four spell circles surrounded the sphere of blood and teleported it in a flash of holy lightning. This satisfied the entity, causing him to shift his arm aloft. Holding a staff of alabaster decorated with blessed wings, it summoned a great bolt of lightning that engulfed the form of the caster. It then disappeared as quick as it came, leaving behind the scorched remains of the beasts' corpses and the bloodless battlefield.
