Chapters The sandwich was barely in his grip when Twilight Sparkle's excited squeals rang out from down the hall, "Spike! Spike, I got it! It's finished!" He looked up in time to see the lavender alicorn almost bouncing as she rushed into the kitchen, dressed in her usual purple shirt and indigo skirt, and a look of unfettered joy on her face.
"You finally got it done?" He asked, looking at the scroll on her hands.
"MM-hm!" She nodded, almost squeeing in the process, "Two months of hard work have finally paid off! I can't wait to show everyone!"
"You know, you still haven't said what this new spell is supposed to do."
"It's a specialized transmutation spell, Spike." She replied, "You know how some elements like platinum and gold don't react well to regular transformation magic, right?"
"Like that time you tried to turn some silver into a marble and it melted into a glob of sludge?"
"Exactly! Well, this spell is specifically designed with them in mind, so we don't have to worry about mishaps like that again!" This time she did squee. "Quick, after you finish eating, send Celestia a message about it! I'll go and tell the others!"
"Ok, ok. Relax, Twi." Spike couldn't help chuckling as he resumed eating. Even in her early twenties, Twilight could be like a little filly when she got excited.
Due to the others needing to finish up work, and Celestia having to make sure day court was complete, it was well into evening when they were all able to gather in the crystal palace's main hall; the Mane Six, the CMC, Spike Celestia, Luna, Starlight...and an unexpected extra were all gathered around a small end table, a cloth-covered object setting on it
"Twilight, why's she here?" Rainbow gestured to Trixie Lulamoon.
"I saw she was back in town...and Twilight's new spell kinda came out while we were talking." Starlight admitted, somewhat sheepishly.
"And you really think The Great and Power--"
"Trixie...!" Starlight elbowed her, pointing to the princesses.
"Oh, um...heh...I couldn't resist seeing for myself. Not everyday you hear about a spell being created, right?" She grinned weakly.
"All right. You know about the Noble Metals; metals that resist rust and acids, like gold and silver, right?" Twilight noted a few nods, along with Scootaloo and Sweetie looking confused, Applejack's shrug, and Rainbow just motioning for her to get on with it. "Ok, because of that, they don't take too well to transmutation magic...often with random, and sometimes violent reactions. This spell I made is designed to specifically work around that little problem." Stepping to the table, she removed the cloth to reveal a metal sphere, roughly tennis ball sized. "Princess Celestia was kind enough to donate this piece of platinum to experiment with."
"Actually that's what's left of the 'jewelry' the leader of the Caribou mailed me a while back." Celestia commented, "Prince Rudolph sent me a selection of...unusual body jewelry for a Hearth's Warming Eve present that he thought I'd get a laugh out of. Let's just say it was part of a pair..." She left it at that
"*Ahem* Yes..." Twilight coughed, blushing a little at the thought, " A-anyway, as I was saying, it works specifically for Noble Metals." She took a deep breath and began concentrating, a sphere of magic forming on the tip of her horn, "Just watch. In thirty seconds, this metal ball will be a porcelain soup bowl!"
As everyone watched her form the spell, Luna looked at the orb, taking note of her reflection in it, "Huh, I don't remember this thing being quite so...shiny when you gave it to her, Tia."
"Oh, Twi spent over an hour polishing a mirror finish on it so it'd look nice." Spike answered her, squinting a little at how bright the orb was starting to get.
"Polish?" Celestia looked at him, "Spike...Twilight remembers that spells can bounce off a reflective surface, doesn't shhHEE!?" At that moment, Twilight had finished the spell. The magic orb slammed into the ball; and true to form, it ricocheted off the ball...
And straight into Spike's chest, taking him straight off his feet and several yards away as well and releasing a massive shockwave that nearly bowled everyone else over.
The wave itself was enough to send a resonating hum through the palace, like a giant tuning fork, allowing it to ripple out over Ponyville. Several ponies felt the tingle of magic as it passed over them, wondering what it was.
Zecora, in town collecting a few supplies, looked up when she felt it, "What a curious sensation. That almost felt like a magical vibration."
Maud Pie had just left the grocery store when she heard the sound, followed by the magic, "Huh." She looked around, " I thought Pinkie wasn't allowed to make Party Nukes anymore."
"Woo...talk about a party popper!" Pinkie whistled, sitting up.
"Unhh...everyone all right?" Twilight asked, shaking the ringing out of her ears.
"Yeah."
"I think so...though my mane is a mess!"
"Twilight, next time a spell of yers has a bang like that, warn a gal."
"But it wasn't supposed to even do that!" She protested, "It was just supposed to change, not bounce and hit...." Her face turned to one of fear, "Spike! Oh no! It bounced and hit him!"
"Where is he??" Apple Bloom looked around.
"He's over there!" Rainbow yelled, pointing to a prone figure laying several yards way.
"SPIKE!" Multiple voices screamed in unison as they ran over. Reaching him, they saw the front of his shirt had been blown apart, as well as leaving a large, slightly smoking scorch mark on his chest
"Is he...?" Fluttershy's eyes started to water at the thought.
"Oh, Spikey-Wikey, please say you're all right!" Rarity whimpered as Twilight and Celestia kneeled on either side
*cough* "Oh, that stung..." Came the groan, much to several noises of relief, "What hit me?"
"Oh Spike!" Twilight gasped, hugging him tightly, along with Rarity, "I'm SO sorry! I didn't mean for that to happen! The spell rebounded off the polished surface and went right at you! Are you ok!?"
"Yeah, that looked like it hurt!" Scootaloo commented, wincing a little at the smoke.
"I'm alright." He said as they helped him up, "Just knocked the wind outta me. My shirt, on the other hand..." He added, looking at the remains.
"But...but..." Fluttershy motioned to the scorch area.
"Nothing a little fine-grit sandpaper won't fix." He assured her, rolling an ache out of his shoulder.
"That's just it, Spike!" Twilight spoke up, concerned, "That spell is for metal only! I never planned on a living being to get hit with it! For all I know, it could severely detrimental effects!"
"Ugh, my mouth feels like it use a mint right about now." Pinkie smacked her lips.
"No Pinkie. Detrimental, as in harmful to your health. Possibly life threatening!" Starlight elaborated.
"Girls." Spike spoke up, "Not that I don't appreciate the concern...but I feel fine."
"Be that as may, Spike." Celestia said, "She has a point. While you might feel all right now, for all we know, any side-effects may simply be on a delay. Personally, I'd feel better sticking around just in case."
"As will I." Luna added, "Luckily, any magical side-effects tend to show within a twelve hour period. If nothing should by this time tomorrow, I believe we can rest easy."
"If that's the case, then I will stay as well!" Rarity declared.
"Me too!" Sweetie was right behind her.
"While we're never exactly been close, Spike." Trixie crossed her arms, "I agree that making sure this spell has no unpleasant results would be the right thing."
"Better believe it!"
"Yippie! Sleepover!"
"But..." Spike sighed. Any further attempts to say it wasn't necessary was futile now, especially when they were all in agreement like this. One by one, they declared their intent to stay the night, "All right." He relent, letting out a yawn in the process, "It's starting to get late; I'm gonna go to bed." He felt himself get tagged with at least three different monitoring spells before he was even done talking.
"Not taking any chances, Spike." Twilight responded to the questioning look he gave her.
Once he headed off, Apple Bloom felt the need to get something off her chest, "He's gonna be ok alright, isn't he Twilight?"
"I hope so, Apple Bloom. That's the one issue with these types of spells; when it's intended for a specific purpose, the effects it can have of anything outside of that are unknown."
"So, Spikey might be right and nothing's gonna happen?" Pinkie asked.
"We don't know. Like Luna said, anything could happen in the next twelve..." Twilight suddenly yawned, " Twelve hours. Wow, that spell must've taken more out of me than I thought." She said, yawning again. "Kinda sleepy all of a sudden."
"Staaawwwnnn...stop yawning, Twilight. It's catching." Rainbow said, slumping on a nearby sofa and trying not to nod off, "Feel like I could use a nap too..."
"Me too..." Fluttershy curled up in a squishy armchair.
"Seems like we all could use a little shuteye, given what just happened." Luna looked sleepily at Celestia, who was already snoozing in a lounger.
"Well, I...I've heard that arcane explosions like that...can cause drowsiness to those caught in it, due to *yawn* disrupting their.....their own...magic...zzzz..." Starlight offered before sleep claimed her, along with Trixie and Sweetie Bell.
It wasn't long before the others followed, all finding a chair or piling onto the sofas. Within minutes, the room was filled with the sound of slumbering mares.
None of which had remained awake long enough to witness the soft glow that began enveloping them.
Spike blinked a few times when the morning rays of Celestia's sun hit him. Once he was fully awake, he remembered the previous night and quickly got up to check the mirror. "Still purple, nothing seems to be missing or anything extra growing outta me." A look at the clock showed the twelve-hour window Luna mentioned was coming to an end, and far as he could tell, nothing happened. "Well, at least they can relax. And next time Twilight tries that spell, she'll scuff the ball up a bit first."
Leaving his room, he gave things a quick sniff to see if Celestia, or one of the others, had decided to go ahead with breakfast. He didn't smell anything cooking, but there was a hint of something in the air; almost smoky-sweet undertone he couldn't quite place. It wasn't unpleasant by any stretch, just...odd. More curious than concerned, he made his way back to the main hall, 'Hey, girls, do any of you smell thaaaa-"
Spike's voice caught in his throat and he felt his body go rigid at the sight that greeted him.
There, sprawled out in the chairs and couches, lay twelve dragons.
Twelve. Sleeping. FEMALE. Dragons.
Spike almost choked on the breath he was midway through when he saw them. Who were these dragonesses? What the hell were they doing here, and where the hell did they come from? For that matter, where were the girls!? There was no sign of them anywhere!
"Who...who the buck are you??' Was all he could get out, though it didn't come out any louder than a conversational tone.
While it wasn't very loud, one of them seemed to have heard him...colored the same dark blue as Princess Luna with similar sapphire blue hair and tuft on the end of her tail. She also had a crescent moon-shaped crest on her forehead, four small, silvery, crescent-shaped horns that jutted out from her temples, and two large dragon wings on her back.
That... and she was wearing the exact same type of gown Luna had been wearing yesterday, except it was a tad snugger on her, showing off the dragoness' impressive curves. He noticed that what of her 'underside' he could see was the same sapphire blue.
She yawned and looked around briefly before setting her gaze on him, mild amusement in her face, "Having that 'dragon harem' dream again, Spike?" She sounded a bit like Luna too, though her voice was a slightly deeper tone.
"Dra...?" His jaw almost unhinged from that. He'd never told ANYONE that dream! How the HELL did this dragon know!? "H-How...??"
"I'm afraid this isn't a dream, Luna..." One of the other spoke up, squirming uncomfortably in her seat a little. This one was colored the same as Celestia, though she had a sun-shaped crest on her forehead and two golden horns that curved back over her head. She was also wearing the same gown as Celestia, but like the 'Luna' dragon, her clothes were tight as well, revealing her chest scales were the same shade of pink as in her hair. She squirmed a bit more, "Though that explains this wicked wedgie I have."
"Which is exactly why I never wear--WHAT!?" The first one screamed, causing the others to rouse.
"Nnn...where's the fire?"
"I feel funny..."
"DRAGON!" The ones with Fluttershy and Starlight's colors screamed, pointing at each other.
"Where in tarnation did THEY come from!" The Applejack-colored one yelled, jumping when she saw the Rainbow Dash -blue one beside, her "Gah!"
"Woah!"
"What's going on!"
Before any more of them could react, the Celestia-colored dragoness stood, "All right, all of you, settle down!" The tone was enough to make the room, and its contents, vibrate briefly.
"Wh...that was The Royal Canterlot Voice!" The Twilight one managed to get out while the whole group stopped dead, "But only the..."
"Yes, Twilight, it's me." The taller dragoness cleared her throat, "Been a while since I've used it. Now, before we do anything else, Fluttershy?"
The yellow dragoness looked up, though she was still shaking, "Y-yes..?"
"Apple Bloom?"
"Yeah...?"
"Well, at least that proves that we're all still us. At the moment, though, we've all been turned into dragons somehow."
"Dragons...Celesta...? That's really you!?" Spike said, once he managed to regain his voice, getting the attention of every former pony in the room.
"Spike!" Twilight called out, running over to him, "Do you feel fine!?" She asked, "No strange tingling, twitching, or itchy sensations??"
"I should be the one asking that!" He replied, "Twi, you. Are. A. DRAGON!" He looked back at the others, who were checking out their new bodies, "You ALL are! How the heck did this happen??"
"I-I don't know...we were fine when you went to bed." Starlight said, once she calmed down, running a hand over the spot where her unicorn horn used to be, now replaced with a crest that was quite similar to her cutie mark "This is so weird!"
"Tell me about it!" Rainbow responded, giving her altered wings an inspection, "I mean, the wings look cool, but I miss my feathers!"
"Who cares about feathers?" Sweetie blurted, "How are we going to explain this to our families??"
"She's kinda got a point. Maud's gonna flip her flanks when she sees this!" Pinkie hopped around, looking at her new clawed feet, "Oh! If we're dragons now, this mean we can eat like them too!?"
"Eat like dragons? You mean...eating g-gems??" Judging from her posture when she said it, was apparent Rarity paled somewhat at the thought.
"I admit, it would be interesting, but right now we need to run damage control." Twilight said, "Last thing we need is the town, or Canterlot for that matter, panicking about a group of dragons in town."
"Um...girls? Fluttershy spoke up near the window, nervously fingering one of the two large fins protruding from her head, "I-I don't think we'll have to about....about that."
Rushing over, the others were treated to the sight of a town filled with dragons, all running about screaming when they saw each other and their reflections.
"The whole place's been affected!" Trixie yelped, "This has to one of Discord's excuses for a joke!"
"No, this isn't quite his style." Celesta responded, "He would've shown up to take credit by now. Besides, there's no way he'd cast a spell like this on Fluttershy without warning or at least explaining himself."
"Plus...anyone else notice something funny?" Spike pointed out, "There are still ponies out there too."
Another look from the group showed that, sure enough, there were several ponies, just as freaked out as the dragons, running about.
"'Tia..." Luna spoke up.
"I know, Luna." Came the response, "Let's go." With that, the sibling princesses hurried for the palace doors, the others not far behind.
As soon as they were out, the noise that came with the collective freak out was almost deafening.
"I'm scaly! Why am I scaly!?"
"I always knew my wife was a dragon, but I didn't mean it literally!"
"What's going on!?"
"CITIZENS OF PONYVILLE!" The duo shouted in unison, their voice quickly getting the attention of everyone.
"P-Princess Celestia, Princess Luna!?" Carrot Cake, still a pony, spoke up once he saw them, "Is..is that you?? You're dragons as well??"
"Yes, Mr. Cake. It's us. Everyone, please! Settle down!" Celestia called out over the worried murmurs.
"W-what's going on!? I woke up this morning to find that both my wife and daughter have been turned into d-dragons!"
"Mine as well!" Filthy Rich added.
"Eeyup! Granny Smith too!" Big Mac called out, "Ah ain't normally one fer crude speech, but it scared the hell outta me!"
Several others spoke up as well.
"Tia, am I seeing things?" Luna asked, "So far, all the unchanged ponies..."
"Are male. I see it too, Luna." Celestia responded, "This is very strange. Everyone, before we say anything, we need to be sure of something, first. Luna, move fifteen paces over to the left. I'll take fifteen to the right. All of you who haven't been affected, please move over to Princess Luna. Those that were, to me."
It took a minute before the group was sorted, but soon Celestia and Luna each had half of Ponyville standing near them. Luna looked over at her sister, "Celesta, I'm afraid we were right. Whatever magic did this has affected the town's entire female population!"
"But..but WHY!?" One of the mares-turned-dragoness cried out, "What's there to get out of turning every mare and filly in Ponyville into a dragon!?"
Celestia sighed, "I'm afraid I don't know. Who-or what-ever caused this was surprisingly quick and efficient for it to effect the entire town without any notice. I promise, however, we WILL find out what happened. And in doing that, hopefully find a way to undo it. For now, though, I ask that you all try and go about with your daily lives. If any of you start to feel anything like a hoarding urge, inform Princess Twilight and we'll do what we can to help."
It took them a little while to get the townsfolk to fully calm down, but Celestia and Luna managed to get everyone to head back home. Though a few were still weirded out by the whole situation.
Soon the group was back inside. Ones like Trixie, Apple Bloom, Sweetie Bell and Pinkie were still looking themselves over.
"So, what do we do now?" Spike asked, "I'm still trying to wrap my head around all you being dragons now..."
"Like 'Tia said, we just go on about as normal." Luna responded, "Though it's going to be fun explaining things to the stuck-ups at court back in Canterlot..."
GRRRRRUULLLRRR!!!
"Heh...well, I have a feeling I know what we gotta do first." Spike fought the urge to laugh at the mares' collective blush from the noise, "Omelettes good with everyone?" He was met with several rapid sounds of agreement.
As he started out towards the kitchen, Rainbow slowly cocked her head to the side, following him, "Hey, guys?
"Hm?" Twilight looked over, "Something wrong, Rainbow?"
"No, but...is it just me, or has Spike been working out?"
Multiple pairs of eyes glanced over to the sole male dragon, more than a couple widening while they watched.
Spike was already pulling out ingredients, and situating himself at the large hibuckchi cooktop Twilight had gotten installed for when large groups were eating with the, by the time the dragonized mares entered the kitchen. "Ok, who wants what?"
It took a moment for them all to make up their minds, especially since it seemed like something was distracting them a little. But they managed to choose and he got to work. Flicking on the radio he kept nearby for when he felt like some cooking tunes were needed, Spike made a second trip as one of his favorite tunes started to play.
Meanwhile, the mares-turned-dragonesses were calmly listening to the sound of mixing combined with the radio when they noticed Spike's head and shoulders begin to bounce in time with the beat.
"He does this every time that thing's on." Twilight giggled a little, watching along with the others. "Huh, you were right Rainbow, he is kinda buff...how come I never noticed before?"
"Dunno Twiliy, but Pinkie like!" Pinkie responded, her voice an uncharacteristically lustful growl as she said it. As soon as she said it, though, she blinked, then giggled. "Wow, didn't know I could do that. Grrr. Rrrr! Hee-hee, that's fun! But Pinkie still liiikkke."
"I'll second that." Fluttershy purred, licking her lips a little and surprising almost half the group there. She paused. "Oh my...that's new." She sat there for a second before shrugging and going back to eyeing Spike.
As he added the requested seasonings to a couple of the omelettes, Spike found himself hit with an unusual sensation. 'Why do I feel like I'm being oogled?' He asked himself, taking a brief glance over his shoulder. The best he managed was Luna and Celestia, and the two of them were just sitting there, waiting patiently. "Huh, the princesses make pretty cute dragons." He mused quietly, not noticing the two blush slightly.
"And we don't?" Rainbow called out, pouting as she did.
"True, they all are pretty--wha...??" Spike quickly looked back at her. Soon as he did, though, she seemed to realize she'd said that out loud. With a squeak that would normally be reserved for Fluttershy, she clamped her hands over her mouth, blushing heavily. 'Oh crap...they have a dragon's sense of hearing!' He thought, quickly focusing back to the omelettes, his own face turning red. In an attempt to take his mind off it, he flipped the radio to a different station, looking for something a little heavier than he normally listened to. After a moment, some rock came on and he let the guitars wash over him.
Back at the table, Applejack was having a slight problem. "Consarnit...! Why am Ah gettin' all flustered every time Ah look at Spike?" She muttered to herself, trying to pull down her hat to hide the growing blush. As well as keep the others from noticing the way she was looking at him while he got back into his rhythm.
Beside her, Rainbow was having similar issues. 'Get a grip, you're Rainbow Dash, not some giggly fru-fru mare, going all gaga over a guy, even if you've known him for years. You don't do that, or wonder why you never noticed how muscly he is...or imagine pressing up against that chest to see what it'd feel like...or those arms wrapping around you...' Despite her efforts, a goofy grin slowly made its way across her lips.
Spike, though, was focused back on the cooktop, dancing along it to keep things from burning. However, he missed Rarity staring at him during this.
With a slightly...hungry expression. 'Mmm...shake that tail, you delicious little...unf!' She purred mentally, biting her lip as he hopped over to flip the omelets, an interesting song playing through her head. 'Sweet Celestia...I bet you could bounce a diamond off those buns!
"Um, Rarity? " Sweetie whispered after hearing a perverse giggle from her sister. "You're drooling "
"Hm? Oh! Um..heh...just a little hungry, Sweetie. Those omelettes smell absolutely divine!"
""Riiiiight." She replied, not really buying it.
"Say, Scoot" Apple Bloom nudged her friend, though her eyes were focused on the room's lone male. "Have ya noticed that Spike looks kinda...."
"Like I'm just now discovering he's a hottie and I wanna eat my omelette of those abs?" Scootaloo replied, her wings halfway extended.
"You too, huh?" Bloom's new reptilian tongue licked across her muzzle as she continued to watch.
"Ok, they're almost done, who wanted chives-" Spike started before a light clatter on the floor distracted him. "Dammit..dropped the spatula..." He quickly bent down to get it.
*Pomf!*
*Pomf!Pomf!Pomf!*
*POMF!*
"What the...??" He looked around in confusion. What was that loud popping sound? "Say, did you girls hear~" His voice died in his throat when he turned around:
Every mare that had wings had popped wingboners, even Celestia and Luna! Every single appendage was stiff as a board. As for the others; Applejack was flushed and violently fanning herself with her hat. Starlight, Trixie, and Rarity were staring with visible nosebleeds. And Sweetie and Bloom were just staring at him with perverted grins.
It was then that he smelled something; a strange spicy-sweet scent, almost like honey barbecue, coming from somewhere in the direction of the girls.
"Take it off!" Pinkie yelled, grinning like Bloom and Sweetie, along with waving a handful of bits. Given he was only wearing the sweat pants he'd gone to bed in, it was fairly easy to tell what she meant.
It was also at this moment that he realized he was also now sporting an unexpected tent in said pants. Given the even wider grins - and a couple of whines - he knew they saw. With that, he proceeded to take the only course of action available: quickly, and as calmly as he could, he plated up the omelettes and set them on the table. "I have something I need to take care of momentarily...so I'll let you get the ones you want. Now, if you'll excuse me..." He started walking off, doing his best to look natural.
"Trixie can help you with that if you want!"
Spike sped up.
The Hazards of Being a Male Dragon.
"Ok...just calm down." Spike said to himself once he managed to get out of the palace after dealing with his...issue. Luckily, the others were still eating, so that gave him a clear path to the front door.
Unfortunately, in doing that, he made one small error: he'd forgotten to get himself anything to eat. He looked back at the entry way and quickly shook his head. "Not going back in there right now." He said to himself. That left only one option. 'Sugar Cube Corner it is, then.'
The late morning streets of Ponyville, normally filled with the sounds of shops doing business, random chatter, and various other sounds. Right now though, it was eerily quiet.
"What happened to us!?"
"Don't dragons eat meat? I'm a vegetarian!"
"What if we're like this forever!?"
Well, quiet aside from the flower trio having their standard panic fit. Spike quickly tuned them out. 'They've probably all gone back to bed, hoping it's a dream...or trying to come to terms with the change.' Truth be told, even though it was a clear blue sky, and birds and various other animals could be heard, it was unnerving to say the least.
"It's wierd, Diamond. I mean, most of my clothes barely fit any more, but I have breasts now! I have to be a C-cup at least now!"
Stopping mid-step, Spike turned towards the voice, recognizing it. "Silver Spoon?" He asked no one in particular.
"I hear that! Normally, neither of us would be caught dead out in our birthday suits...now though..."
"Yep, and Diamond Tia...ra..." He trailed off when he saw them. While the color and voices were unmistakable....though their new dragon bodies were, like the rest, a bit bigger and definitely more shapely then normal...it was what they had on, or didn't, in this case.
Silver was wearing a string bikini that looked more like paint than fabric, barely covering her nipples and privates. Diamond, however, didn't even seem to bother, opting to wear a few chains around her neck, some hanging low enough to hide the nipples on her new D-cup breasts, while having a small set of chains on her waist, hanging just low enough to give her some measure of modesty.
Saying it was hard for him not to stare was like saying Rainbow Dash liked to fly. Though he was broken out of his trance by the returning snugness in his pants. 'Gah! Go away, you bastard! You've already given me enough trouble today!'
Unfortunately for his stomach, that gave them enough to spy him.
"Whoa..." Diamond's jaw dropped a tad. "W-when did Spike turn into a...a..."
"Hot little studmuffin you wanna ride until you can't feel your thighs?" Silver's new forked tongue flicked out over her lips
"Was gonna say fox, but that works!"
"I..I...chains...haa..." Before he could reboot fast enough to come up with a more coherent reply, the two former fillies had sauntered over to him.
