Regret part 5: The Truth

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

"The...Truth..." Rarity thought as a grimace slowly formed across her face. "What in Equestria is that suppose to mean?!"

"...It's not a very hard concept to grasp darling."The Shadow said as it rolled it's glow red eyes."It's the truth not Rocket science."

Rarity's eye widened in fear as she stared at the shadow.
"Ho-how did you...did you just...."

"I swear that fall must've given you brain damage or something"The Shadow scoffed."Because you certainly seem to be getting dumber by the second....then again..." The Shadow Rarity placed a hoof to her chin."You never were all that smart to begin with."

"HOW DARE YOU!" Rarity's rage erupted as she pounced at the shadow, but to her despair she simply fell through it and landed hard on her side.

"Wha-how...did you..."Rarity stood and too her surprise and slight dismay she was completely fine. "What's going on here....why am I not hurt..."

"You still don't get what this is do you."The Shadow said bitterly."...I seriously can't believe your this dense...it's quite pitiful really..."
.
"Yo-you can read my mind...ho-how is that possible..." Rarity said in a whispery tone."wh-what are you...."

The Shadow let out a sigh of disgust and placed a hoof on her forehead.
"We already went through this song and dance...what two minutes ago...." Shadow Rarity chuckled to herself, dropping her hoof back to the ground then moved closer to Rarity."I'm you...or did you forget that already?"

"No!" Rarity said quickly. "What are you really? You look like me....you almost sound like me but you certainly are not me..."

"Then what do think I am Rarity?" The Shadow asked as it's glowing red eyes faded back to normal."Am I a demon? A changeling perhaps? Or maybe I'm just a figment of your imagination...come to life because you've finally snapped....”The shadow chuckled to itself as it's eyes locked onto Rarity's. "What am I Rarity? What. am. I?"

Rarity's mind raced as she attempted to find an answer; but after a few second she lowered her head in defeat.
"I..." Rarity shook her head slowly. "..I don't know...I have no idea what you are..." Rarity sighed softly looking around slowly. "I don't even know where I am right now..."

"A second ago you didn't care."The Shadow said with a light snicker.

Rarity narrowed her eyes at shadowy mare as a scowl formed across her face.
"If I'm going to be trapped in this dark pit of hell with you; I'd at least like to know where I am." Rarity said bitterly.

"Curious I see...[/b']” The shadow said with a grin." Curiosity can be dangerous though... "The shadow moved around Rarity at a slow pace. "Do you really want to know where we are right now?"

"Yes!" Rarity said in an annoyed voice. "I would very much like to know where you've taken me monster..."

The shadow suddenly stopped; a twisted grin slowly spread across her face.
"This is the one place you can't escape darling... " It's hoof extended well beyond it's normal length reaching for Rarity.

Rarity instinctually shifted backward to escape the shadowy limb, but the movement was too swift for her. The hoof lightly tapped her head before shrinking back to the being. The hoof felt off; like it was both there yet not; like a small needle pricking her skin. Rarity's own hoof shot upward to the spot the limb had touched; pain, for whatever reason her head hurt worse then ever before. The immense pain was so great that for a moment mare felt as though she would collapse.

"I don't...understand... any of this....none of it makes sense..." Rarity said as she tenderly rubbed her temple. "What are you...who are you...why am I here...why...why...I don't..." Rarity's head began to throb. "...This pain...this ungodly pain..."

The Other Rarity's eyes began to glow a deep red as if flames were shooting from her eyes.
"Still? Still haven't figure it out?... " The shadow gritted her teeth. "How dense can you be? Fine let me spell it out for you. This! All of this! Is taking place in your screwed up little mind!"

"My...mind?' Rarity asked in a pained voice through gritted teeth.

"Yes! Is that so hard to believe?" The shadow slowly started to shake her head.

"I-I don't believe you...this can't...." Rarity said as she did her best to keep on her hooves. "This is...some kind of trick...It has to be..."

"It's exhausting talking to you. You know that?" the Shadow said with a deep sigh.

Rarity panted slightly as pain continued to rock her body. Rarity’s eyes focused on the grinning shadow taking it all in. The young mare straightened herself as best she could despite the pain. She took in a deep breath to calm herself.
“Alright…let’s say I accept this…that This is my mind as you said…then you’re what exactly? My subconscious? The devil on my shoulder?”

The shadow nodded with a grin.
"A little of both I’d say."

“Are you my coping mechanism…for what…has happened?” Rarity said gently.

Coping? Ha no…I’m here to pull you. Through this. You’re so broken right now. If left in this state I don’t believe your mind will survive this. ” the Shadow said as she phased through the ground and reappeared beside Rarity as she attempted to embrace her. “Ultimately I’m here to help you.

“Help?”Rarity said as she pulled away from the shadow. “Don’t…mean to be rude Darling…but you’ve been doing a terrible job of helping me…”

Because you’re still being useless.” The shadow said. “All this effort for something so pointless.

Rarity lifted a hoof in disgust.
“Pointless? How can you…our sister…she’s…she’s…”

Dead?” the shadow said as she strolled around Rarity. “Yes I know.

The shadow sat down and tilted her head.
And?

“And? What do you mean and!?” Rarity said through gritted teeth. “Our Sister…is gone. Gone forever…and it’s…it’s my fault…all my fault…”

You’re fault?” the Shadow said as she stood up. “You didn’t kill her right? She died because she was a stupid brat. A child who knew nothing of the world. What burden do you share in this exactly?

Rarity wanted to strike the shadow. Slam her head into the ground for the words she said but for some reason her body couldn’t move.
“No…it’s fault…she ran away because of me…she died because…of me.”

The Shadow narrowed her eyes and slammed a hoof against the ground
No! No! No! You are not responsible! That worthless girl killed herself! Do you not see this!?

Rarity slumped her head downward as tears began to flow from her eyes.
“No…it was me…I did this…I was angry…I was stupid.”

The Shadow stomped towards Rarity. It glared and pushed it’s face forward almost pressing its cheek against her’s.
forget her…

Rarity huffed slightly as she stared at the shadow with horrified eyes.
“What?”

I said…” The Shadow said as it pushed a heavy hoof against Rarity’s chest. “Forget her!

Rarity’s chest began to pound like her heart was being crushed. The pain almost unbearable; burning her very soul. She grunted and tried to take a step backwards; to flee from the burning agony but she couldn’t. The hoof pushed Rarity back making Her legs buckle under her weight.
The more you fight me the worse the pain will be…” the Shadow said .

“N-no….” Rarity winced. “This is wrong…all wrong…”

The Shadow pushed Rarity to the ground and began to circle her.
Useless…This is all so Useless!” the shadow snarled. “Theses feelings are so useless! Don’t you see? This is a blessing! The burden is gone. We can finally do what we want!

“Monster…” Rarity whimpered.

The Shadow snickered slightly as she shook her head.
" When you call me a monster...you do realize you're calling yourself one as well right?"

“You’re not…me.” Rarity said softly.

The Shadow pointed to herself before running a hoof through her hair.
I am the you you’ve been suppressing.

Rarity glared at the shadow as best as she was able. The pain was spreading throughout her body. It was smothering; unbearable but still Rarity glared.

The Shadow reached down attempting to grab at Rarity’s face.
We are better. Better than the others. Better than her.

Rarity swiftly slapped the shadow across the face causing it to stumble slightly. There was surprise in the being’s face as it turned back to Rarity. Rarity panted heavily as she shook her hoof. Her body ached even worse from making contact with the being but she didn’t care. She gritted her teeth putting every ounce of her strength.
“You…you listen to me…” Rarity panted. “I will…not have you…or anypony…slender her. My Sister. Sweetie Belle.”

The shadow backed up slightly.
What?

“Sweetie belle made mistakes…we all do.” Rarity said as she took a heavy step towards the shadow. “But she was no burden. Certainly not mine.”

l-listen to yourself.” the shadow said as took another step backwards. “This is what…what we wanted…isn’t?

“No.” Rarity shook her head.

The shadow continued to back away from Rarity.
She was…useless. Interfered with everything! We are better without her!

“No.” Rarity repeated as she took another step towards the shadow.

The shadow’s eyes were widened with panic as it tried to escape the mare.
Why…why are you doing this…we can be happy. You need me…

“I don’t.” Rarity shook her head as she continued her pained walk towards the shadow.

The shadows around the being began to fizzle and dissipate with each step it took.
this isn’t…how it’s suppose to be…

The Shadow’s limbs began to buckle under itself; and with a few more steps the being collapsed to the ground. The shadow struggled to move; the raging darkness surrounding it all but gone. Soon all that remained was a small tearful filly.

“I loved my sister.” Rarity said as she looked at the small filly version of herself. “I just wish I said it more…”

The filly panted heavily as it stared upward at mare. Rarity reached down which caused the being to flinch and close its eyes. However instead of violence of any sort the mare simply embraced it. An act that shocked the being greatly.
“I…I’m also sorry that you were created. I don’t need you. Not anymore. I don’t want to be…you. Not now not ever…”

The filly whimper as it slowly began to fade away.
“You…this dream…I don’t know what will happen if you wake…I can’t bare that…please…please don’t…”

The filly weakly reached a hoof upward at Rarity.
“Stay….stay with…me…”

“I’m sorry darling but…you’re terrible company.” She chuckled lightly before shaking her head lightly. “This is the end. My regret…this pain in my chest. Come what may. I must see it through.”

The filly closed its eyes and slumped its head against Rarity’s chest. The room around Rarity began to shake and the darkness around her began to brighten. Like the sun coming over the horizon to start a new day. The light of the room was blinding; and Before Rarity knew it she was engulfed in the warmth of the light.

Rarity’s eyes flickered slightly as she tried her best to open her heavy eyes. The light of morning was shining upon her, so bright and warm yet she could hardly move. The mare grit her teeth and with a mild amount of strength managed to look upon the world around her. She was in a hospital room; the morning sun was just reaching its peak. Rarity tried to turn her head but only felt a sharp pain spread throughout her entire body. She panted slightly as she looked downward. To her surprise the mare had casts on each of her legs and a brace around her neck.

The limbs were suspended in the air by ropes or some other material. Looking to her left she found an Iv bag attached to a heart monitor. Following the line she found it to be attached to her left front leg.
“Wha…” she mumbled slightly. “Where…”

Rarity whimpered and shut her eyes again. The pain in her chest was surfacing again. The mare grit her teeth then looked downward toward her middle. The first thing she noticed was the blackened color of her normally pristine fur. Stranger more was that this miscoloring was only around her chest, the rest of her body was normal.

A soft sound coming from the side of the room caught Rarity’s attention. Like the chirp of a dove; soft and sweet. Rarity’s eyes drifted as far as they could finding a chair seated close to her bedding and a pony sitting in it. A young filly was stretching slightly; the sun finally shining upon her as well.

Rarity’s eyes widened as she saw the filly. It was an impossible dream. It certainly couldn’t be real. The girl; her sister was sitting in the chair. It was Sweetie Belle.
