Rarity's lament
The true truth (bad end)
Previous ChapterRarity stood over the crippled shadow watching as the darkness surrounding it seemed to fade. Leaning downward the pained mare noticed a strange smile begin to form on the being’s face. Suddenly the darkness surged ; surrounding Rarity. It was a trap; a trap to get the damaged mare close to the center of the spiraling shadows.
“Don’t you act all high and might on me… “ the shadow said with a dark grin as it’s strength seemed to renew.
Rarity looked around for a moment unsure just what was happening. The pressure around her strengthened pulling her forward. Rarity struggled to step backwards but the force was for her. It was like a black hole; an endless darkness slowly engulfing her.
“W-what is this!?” Rarity said through gritted teeth as she was pulled deeper and deeper into the shadows. “I- this can’t be…”
The being chuckled heavily as it strolled around Rarity. The darkness surrounding it even stronger then before.
“Oh Rarity…you still don’t get it do you? All this time I’ve been protecting you.”
“Wha-What do you mean!?” Rarity said as the shadows beckoned her.
“Some things are best left alone. Else the brain can’t handle it.” the Shadow said as s
It continued to walk around Rarity with ease despite the gushing pressure and winds surrounding them.
“But this is what you…” the shadow pressed a hoof into Rarity’s side causing a deep and horrible pain to spread throughout Rarity’s body. The pain going deeper and deeper moving towards her heart. “…want and I can’t protect you anymore. Not from this.”
The shadows around Rarity began to shift becoming almost like a flame.
“What do you mean!?” Rarity said as the flames began to burn into her flesh. “I don’t understand!”
“ OF COURSE YOU DON’T!.” The shadow snapped at Rarity as it stomped a hoof into the ground.” Yet you fight me…now look what you’ve done… ”
Rarity panted heavily as suddenly the world around her began to shift. Before she could say a word she was standing in a darkened woods. Rain falling all around her; coating her wound body. A flash of lightning flickered across the sky illuminating a strange scene before her.
A few yards in front of Rarity she found another her standing by a tree; with a heavy branch held in her hooves.
“You…stupid…careless child…” the other Rarity said to someone Rarity couldn’t see.
“Look at you! Useless!”
Rarity’s heart pounded in her chest as she slowly moved forward. To see who or what the other Rarity was talking to. As Rarity drew closer she came to a startling realization. The pony this other Rarity was talking to was in the river holding tightly to a log as the river pulled against her. The filly was half drowned holding a hoof out towards Rarity. Her voice shrill and pained as she pleaded for help. It was her sister, it was Sweetie Belle.
“R-rarity!” Sweetie Belle bellowed. “I-I can’t! The water is too strong!”
“I can see that!” The other Rarity snarled. “I can’t believe this! How do you always get into theses situations! You are soo! Ahhh!”
The other Rarity stomped a hoof in frustration.
“You’re a burden I’m shackled with! A weight pulling me downward!”
“Rarity!” Sweetie cried again. “Please! Please help! I can’t hold on!”
“And what do expect of me! I don’t have the magic Twilight has!” Rarity said as she rubbed the falling rain from her face. “I don’t have the strength to pull you in! Worst of all…There is a good possibly you will pull me under along with you!”
Sweetie Belle whimpered and sniffled as she looked towards her sister.
“Rarity…wh-what do I…how do I…”
The other Rarity grit her teeth as a second flash of lightning lite up the sky. A growing rage building up in her as her grip on the branch in her hooves tightened. Rarity looked around for a moment before her eyes locked back on her sister. The mare’s eyes narrowed at the water logged filly as she slowly raised the branch upward.
“R-Rarity?” Sweetie Belle Squeaked. “Wh-what are you…”
It was swift; a brutal motion as the other Rarity brought the branch down hard against the filly’s head. Sweetie Belle barely made a sound as the branch struck her. Her eyes widened for a moment before they began to cloud over. A pool of blood flowed from the impact pouring down her face and into the running water. The filly’s grip on the log loosened and before Rarity could blink the rapids had swept the child under.
The other Rarity took in several heavy breaths as the adrenaline of the moment began to drain from her body. The mare looked to the branch in her hoof then back to log her sister had been holding. The realization quickly catching up to her. Her face fell as the branch dropped from her hooves. She tried to back away from the river but the muddy bank was keeping her in place. The only remaining traces of the girl the crimson pool shed left behind before being dragged under.
“ you see now don’t you…” the Shadow Rarity said as it appeared beside Rarity. “ The real truth. ”
Rarity’s eyes were widened in terror, pain and most of all disgust.
“I-I couldn’t…no…there’s no way…”
“ Oh but you could. Oh but you did. ” The shadow said softly. “ This whole time your mind has been trying to shield you. Make you forget. But now? The truth is laid bare. And what a truth it is. ”
“I-I..killed her…my own hooves….” Rarity stammered. “I slaughtered my own…my sister…”
“ I can’t protect you any longer Rarity. ” The Shadow said softly. “ and not from what happens next… ”
Rarity turned her eyes from the scene towards the Shadow.
“W-what…what do you mean?”
“ It’s not over… ” the shadow said as it slowly lowered it’s head. “ I’m afraid…so very afraid… ”
“What?” Rarity said as she looked back to the other Rarity.
The second Rarity was staring at her hooves; her face twisting into all sorts of expressions. Her mouth formed a grin but tears were flowing down her cheeks. She laughed; a maddening laugh that was only drowned out by the falling rain around her. Then suddenly the sky lite up once more and a flash of blinding light shot downward. The other Rarity was too slow; too stuck, too broken to move. The lightning struck the other Rarity square in the chest sending her ragdolling backward towards one of the trees. The mare’s body hit the wood hard falling to the ground in a heap. Her broken form settling into the wet grass unmoving beyond the rise and fall of her charred chest.
Rarity winced as the pain in her chest intensified. She could feel the lightning as it struck the other her. The pain, the fear and broken state of her body. She felt it all in that instance.
“ I never believed in karma before… ” The shadow said softly. “ but this joke…an act of God I’d say… ”
Rarity’s body began to grow weaker. She hardly stand at this point. She winced as she slowly began to lay down. She couldn’t blame the pain for this as strangely the pain was subsiding. She felt almost nothing; like her body was going numb to her.
“W-what…is…happen…happening…” Rarity asked softly.
The Shadow slowly lowered itself down to Rarity like a mother cradling an injured filly.
“ You…this dream…I don’t know what will happen if you wake…I’m scared…so very scared…. ”
As the being comforted Rarity the swirling shadows returned but they were different this time. The shadows sparked and began to brighten into an orange and red hue. The shadows had become a raging inferno surrounding Rarity. The ground around her began to split and through the cracks she could see an endless fire bellow her. She could see misshapen and horrid beings dancing along with the flames. The fires of hell were coming for her; inviting her to join them. Sadly for Rarity she couldn’t resist them; the mare could feel her chest slowing with each breath she took. Her eyes drifted back to the flowing river; to her greatest sin. She closed her eyes for the last time finally accepting the truth.
Deep in the woods close to the river bank the white coated mare laid. Once the beautiful, charming and talented seamstress, an element of Harmony. The generous Rarity of ponyville now a broken pile of limbs lay dying feet away from a terrible crime. Her eyes glazing over as death set in. The last moments of her life flashing by as she took her final breaths. The two sisters would eventually be found and the mare would be celebrated, a hero who tried but failed to save her sister. No one knowing the truth of that night. What the mare had actually done and what the universe had done in response to her horrid crime. So ends the tragic tale of Rarity and her little Sister Sweetie Belle.
