Chapters Twilight Sparkle still couldn't believe it, how in the holy Celestia had she become the leader of Equestria? She trusted Celestia's decisions and always remained a faithful student but she questioned if she was truly ready to take on such a role, but she knew she had to face this challenge with an open mind. Twilight Sparkle took a few deep breaths to keep her composure. She knew more than ever that Celestia must be enjoying the rest of her days spending quality time with her young sister Luna and the thought of her teacher finally being able to relax, did bring a bit of a smile to her features. This couldn't be that hard right? Sure she was now kind of in charge of every pony in Equestria but she had managed to face the likes of Discord, Tirek, and even an alternate world and had still come out on top, so there was really no reason for her to panic...but she just couldn't help it. She was extremely fearful that she wouldn't be good enough. No she could never be Celestia. She knew how strong she was, and how passionate her heart had become about the values of friendship and how it could unlock the greatest of powers, and she wouldn't be here without the help of her friends. She couldn't help but to think of how Rainbow Dash had finally became a Wonderbolt, how Rarity opened up two other bontiques in Equestria, and even Fluttershy had achieved her dream of having an animal sanctuary. Now it was her turn to succeed in a dream she hadn't even known she wanted, to be a successful ruler and leader, and to make her former teacher proud of her.
“Twilight are you okay?” questioned Spike with a bit of a worried expression on his features and a raise of an eyebrow.
“Me? Okay? Oh course I'm okay, how could I not be okay! Celestia has trusted all of Equestria to my hooves, and I have no clue what I'm supposed to do now.” replied Twilight obviously quite frustrated.
Oh course as loyal as ever, Spike just let Twilight get a little frustration out before speaking. Spike just kept his composure, despite being a baby dragon he had grown a lot over the past few years.
“Aw, come on Twilight, Celestia wouldn't have put you in charge if she didn't think you were ready for it, relax. All you have to do is make a schedule of what time to do this royal stuff and you'll be set.” replied Spike as he ate a gemstone he had gotten some time ago that he had been saving for just the right time.
“Oh Spike you always know just what to say. I know I shouldn't worry that she knows what she's doing but still...what if I'm not ready?” asked Twilight as she couldn't help but to doubt herself even with the support of her friends she wasn't sure if she could lead all of Equestria, and what if she made a horrible mistake that changed the fate of the lives of all ponies? She would be remembered as a horrible ruler, and worst of all a disappointment to her teacher and her friends.
“Were you ever ready before?” he asked in return. “You've taken on the likes of Nightmare Moon,Chrysalis,Discord, Tirek and even Starlight Glimmer, there is nothing you were ever truly ready for, but you were always able to find a way alongside your friends to make things work out.” smiled Spike with a big child like grin on his face as he remembered all of the times Twilight had saved Equestria from the jaws of evil and yet she was worried about sitting around on a throne and giving pony's orders.
Twilight Sparkle thought about what Spike said carefully and she couldn't deny how he was right, she hadn't ever really been ready but she had always figured out a way to make it work. She pulled Spike into a hug.
“Thank you so much Spike I don't know what I'd do without my number one assistant.” spoke Twilight with a gleam in her eyes. She could do this, she just had to focus, focus and think. Don't rush anything you have all the time in the world to get the hang of this, after all Celestia had ruled for over a thousand years.
“Aww shucks Twilight you know I'm always here to help.” replied Spike with a slight flush of embarrassment. Spike was glad that he was able to help Twilight in her time of need. He couldn't help but to feel pride and joy.
“Well I should probably get a head start on that list, should I prioritize it by time or problems? And what about royal meetings?” questioned Twilight as she was already processing in her mind the best strategy of how to take care of every pony's problems while still having a bit of time to herself.
Spike just shook his head back and fourth. Typical Twilight, though in all honestly even if he wanted to answer he knew she'd come up with a better solution.
“Honestly Twilight only you know the answer to that, there's no pony better at making schedules” replied Spike with a confident and knowing tone, as he simply nodded his head as if agreeing with himself.
“Oh silly me! How could I forget? Oh Spike do me a favor and head down to Sugar Cube corner and get treats for our guests today. I'm not sure how much I'll need so just get as much as you think you can carry.” instructed Twilight as she handed him enough bits to get the job done. She was sure that Spike would be able to handle this one task for her while she worked on the more important details, all she had to do was figure out what time things should be set at and then every pony would get to see her, and she'd still have time for herself and her friends. Few! She could do this...she just had to keep calm. Twilight Sparkle walked out to the balcony as she gazed out over it, seeing the town of Ponyville beyond and seeing her castle and she couldn't believe that she wasn't there anymore, it had been her home for so long and now she had to walk away from not only her home but her family, there was a slight sadness that arose to her cheeks but she was determined not to fail, and now she knew that Starlight Glimmer could truly take on her own rule as the pony of friendship, she had become quite good at it after all, better than she ever could have imagined and that thought brought a smile to her lips, as she reflected on all the things and all the people she had met on her journey here, she couldn't fail now. She found strength in her heart, and she believed in her morals so she knew she would be fine she just had to take things one thing at a time. Twilight Sparkle couldn't help but reflect on the many times she had been in this kind of situation, though for different reasons, she remembered feeling that as a Princess she didn't truly have a rule along with the other Princesses. Now here she was the leader of all of Equestria, it was a lot to take in.
Twilight Sparkle turned on her hooves as she watched back into the Castle, with a determined mind and a strong heart she was going to get everything figured out, now she just had to work on that schedule, she only hoped that Spike's task would go a lot easier then her own but she was sure it wouldn't take her long, after all she was quite good at making schedules.
“Hmm...now how should I prioritize things? I want to have at least some time to spend with my friends so I want to make sure I get all my royal duties done in a timely fashion.” began Twilight as she took out a quill and paper and would begin jotting down notes on the paper of all the things she would need to do for the upcoming day. Today wasn't too bad, as she was only expected to get accustomed to her rule as leader the following morning as Celestia wanted to make sure she didn't have a panic attack at suddenly being placed in charge of every pony.
*
Spike hurried on down to Sugarcube corner to take care of the one task that Twilight had given to him, he was determined not to fail and to show Twilight that even a simple task could be handled without stress. He walked into Sugarcube corner and could hear Pinkie Pie in the background making some sort of fancy cake for an upcoming party.
“Wow Pinkie that looks delicious!” commented Spike as he licked his lips, trying to hide the look in his eyes, and trying to control his want to take a bit out of the desert.
“Oh hey Spike, oh I know it is wonderful isn't it?” smiled Pinkie Pie with her usual cheerful tune as she came down from where she was working so that she could attend to Spike to see what he wanted. “So what cha need Spikey?” she asked playfully.
“Well, I need cupcakes and snacks for royal ponies and I need as much as I can carry for Twilight doesn't know how many will be showing up today.” explained Spike just a bit nervously.
“Oh? Is that all? Just give me some time I'll have it done in a no time at all.” smiled Pinkie. “When do you need them?” she then asked as she began whipping up the ingredients.
“As many as you can make and as soon as possible.” replied Spike.
“Oh okayie doki loki!” replied Pinkie as she eagerly began working on the order, not wanting to waste any time, she had plenty of time to finish up that cake after all and Spike was one of her closest friends, and she'd do anything if it meant helping out Twilight Sparkle.
Spike would sit down at Sugarcube corner, though he did wonder if Twilight was going to be okay for awhile without him, she had been a little bit nervous when he had left, he could only hope that she would be okay for now. Spike knew he shouldn't worry, after all Twilight was one of the best ponies when it came to schedules, and he was sure she'd get bored of all the more Princess like stuff but he knew that she knew what she was doing and at least he had managed to calm her nerves a bit. He still wondered how she was holding up though, he wasn't sure when he'd be back. He knew that she expected him back before supper though but he knew Pinkie would have him long on his way by then.

Hey every pony I hope you like this little story of mine but I got to give credit where credit is due a very good friend of mine Absolute Zero gave me the "bare bones" concept for this story out of complete boredom and because I know great stories can come from boredom, I decided to adopt this concept and see what I can do with it. Let me know what you think. Constructive criticism.
Chapter 3: The breaking Point
Twilight awoke early enough to raise the sun into the morning sky but she felt so exhausted that all she wanted to do was sleep but she just wanted to see how her friends were doing so she just needed a quick nap before heading into ponyville. She didn't even realize how long she had ended up sleeping, it was Spike whom woke her up.
“Twilight! You have an important meeting to attend today with the local ponies to address their concerns.” explained Spike as he managed to stir her awake. Twilight yawned but woke up stretching out her hooves and wings as she stood looking rather sleepy still and it was clear she had forgotten all about this.
“Meeting? I thought my schedule was all clear for today?” she asked towards Spike whom nodded his head that she was indeed misinformed on this manner. Twilight just hit her head on the floor in frustration.
“Ugh...why does this have to be so hard?” she questioned towards herself as she looked towards Spike. She just have to meet with the citizens of Ponyville and address their concerns surely that wouldn't take up the entire day and then afterwards she'd be able to see her friends again to see what they were doing.
“Come on Twilight, if there's anyone that can do this it's you. I mean seriously it can't be that hard to sit around listening to people all day.” smiled Spike thinking there really wasn't much too the job itself but he didn't realize how much Twilight needed her friends around.
Twilight knew Spike was doing his best to encourage her, he was right this should be easy in comparison to the many things she had accomplished so far, even managing to stop Starlight from ruining the time stream. She took a deep breath to compose herself and then she smiled towards Spike.
“Alright Spike I'm ready, I want you with me by my side after all every great leader needs an adviser and I could think of no one better than you to fit that role.” smiled Twilight softly.
“Aww shucks Twilight thanks I would love too!” smiled Spike as he followed her into the main court room where she sit down on her new throne and it still felt odd for her to be in Celestia's spot but she knew that Celestia had always planned for this to be her own future, as a ruler of Equestria, it was just so hard to believe and even harder to grasp but she felt she was making heads of it.
Twilight Sparkle sat down on the throne and had Spike go announce for the first of her many concerned ponies to come in. The first one was an earth pony and she couldn't help but think of Applejack and Pinkie and wonder how they were doing. This one was a old mare pony probably not quite as old as Granny Smith but it was very clear she was upset about something and had come all the way here to make her complaints known so that the Princess of Friendship might be able to help her.
“Why hello there my name is Twilight Sparkle how can I assist you today madam?” she asked softly but loudly enough for the elderly pony to understand what she was saying so that she wouldn't have to repeat herself as that would just waste more time that she could be using to spend with her friends and the people that were important to her, of course she wanted to help the citizens of Ponyville but she had learned that she wasn't a super pony she could only do so much before she had to sit down and take a break for herself.
“My dear Princess I think it's time you address the problems outside of ponyville just outside my orchard there's been a bunch of groundhogs tearing up my fields where I've been planting beautiful lilies to remember me of my dear departed husband and it's awfully upsetting for those animals to ruin it. You have to do something. Please Princess I just don't know what else to do.” spoke the female earth pony.
“Oh course don't worry Ms, I will be sure to send someone excellent with animals, there's no one better to help you with your problem.” smiled Twilight Sparkle. And with that she gave Fluttershy's name and where she lived and the lady thanked her for her time, perhaps this wouldn't be so bad after all but as the day dragged on and with each ponies problem it got harder and harder to please everyone and she had some that didn't agree with her decisions and she had to force them out of the door. She was beyond frustrated but she knew she could handle it as long as she at least had Spike by her side.
She did get one surprise that day though, Rarity came all the way up to Canterlot just to see her, she was beyond overjoyed to see her that she leaped into the air and tackled her into a big hug.
“Rarity! It's so good to see you what brings you to Canterlot?” she asked curiosity.
“Well, you see darling Coloratura or Ra Ra as Applejack calls her needs some new wardrobes for her next show and she has a deadline she needs to make and I'm the pony she trusts with all her orders now and I was wondering if Spike wasn't horribly busy if I could borrow him for the day, it would be useful to have his help around the shop, you know the smaller details, while I focus on the outfits.” explained Rarity calmly seeing this as a perfectly reasonable request.
“Oh well sure go on Spike.” smiled Twilight waving him towards Rarity.
“So do tell me dear are you handling this okay? You seemed well...stressed.” admitted Rarity not wanting to upset one of her friends. She also knew how daunting it must be to be the ruler of all of Equestria but it was just such an honor as well.
Twilight Sparkle knew she didn't want her friends to worry about her and it was so nice to see Rarity and have her ask how she was doing. She composed herself before she answered.
“Well I'm sure I'll get more accustomed to it with time and if I work with my scheduling more I can get away from this castle and see what you guys are up to and even hang out again.” smiled Twilight softly.
“That's good dear, I just want you to know we are all routing for you and we are all so proud of how far you have come. It's seems like just yesterday I was fitting you in a saddle so you would give me your ticket to the gala or how we defeated Nightmare moon and I helped that serpent to feel like himself again.” smiled Rarity softly. She knew Twilight Sparkle didn't have it easy and this job was certainly far from simple but if anyone could do it, it had to be Twilight herself, she was capable of doing amazing things without evening knowing it.
“Alright thank you Rarity, I hope I will see you and the others soon.” smiled Twilight as she waved her and Spike off and then she sit there all alone with the only thing to keep her company was the citizens of ponyville with complaint after complaint after complaint. It began to feel like it dragged on and on and by the end of it she just wanted it to all end and only an hour or so had passed. She face planted her face against the side of the throne whenever she had a spare moment's rest. She missed Spike already, she knew how much time he enjoyed spending with Rarity but right now she really wished he would have been here with her, but she didn't want to be selfish and even though she had to be locked up in this place, that didn't mean Spike deserved the same. Only she had to endure this, she was the one who had to raise the sun and lower it to raise the moon, meet with nobles and listen to complaints all day long and yet not a single one ever asked her how her day was? It was almost like the only thing that was on their minds was themselves, they were just so thoughtless and selfish she thought. No she couldn't think like that, they were depending on her and had no one else to turn to, she had to stay positive and not blame them for her own inexperience as a ruler.
Finally the last pony left for the day and she had some peace and time to think. She couldn't help but wonder about her friends and being worried that Spike still hadn't come back, maybe Rarity's work was taking longer than she thought it would. She went outside to the balcony to see where the sun was and just like she thought it was already getting to the point where most of her friends would be calling it a day and going to bed, she had a feeling Rarity would be up all night working on her project but the rest of her friends would be sound asleep. She looked up to the balcony, a sad expression on her features.
“It isn't that I'm not grateful for all the things I've learned but now as a leader I feel lost and don't know what to do. I've always had my friends by my side, and now it seems like they are always a thought of the past. What can I do to fix this without you to lean on? I'm not as strong nor fast, my magic is far more than acceptable but this lonely heart aches so much for the life I had before. What should I do now?” asked Twilight Sparkle as she looked up towards the sky, it was almost like she expected Celestia to descend from above and give her guidance but she knew she wasn't coming, no one was coming. No one at all, wasn't she important? She felt this dark feeling in the back of her mind, she wanted them to know her to remember her but yet her heart knew it was wrong but she couldn't stand the way things were going now. She had to remain strong but yet she felt so weak and vulnerable, she went to lower the sun to raise the moon just like she had done before and well she realized Spike still wasn't back in the morning, she truly had had enough of this.
“First they took my castle, then my time, then my friends and now Spike too! It's not fair, it's not right. I don't deserve this and I won't allow this to happen anymore. I'm going to do something about it.” announced Twilight Sparkle to herself as no one was around to listen to her but it was almost like she was imagining her friends there with her, and even thought it was unaware to her at this point, she had reached the breaking point.
Chapter 4: Lost of Control
Twilight Sparkle's eyes twitched. She looked to the illusions of her friends, knowing even a bit in her mind that they weren't really there.
“It's so nice of all of you to come see me, I can't even begin to thank you enough but you must forgive me there are things I must attend too.” spoke Twilight towards the illusions. Of course they didn't actually answer her. She went off into the court room, today she was scheduled to meet with the nobility again but this time she was going to have the final say.
“Hello Princess Twilight it is so good to see you again.” smiled Amira as she bowed towards the Princess. “We were wondering if you could break away from your busy duties to come out to Saddle Arabia, it would be good for our citizens to meet you.”
“Oh sure I would love too really, but I'm just so swamped, how about you just bring them here?” she smirked a grin as her ears and eyes twitched. Her hair wasn't looking as good as it usually did.
“Twilight are you feeling quite alright?” asked Amira concerned.
Me? I'm fine, why wouldn't I be fine? Now leave me alone, I have many others I need to see and concerns to address. I don't have time for fun.” replied Twilight Sparkle as she shooed the two nobles off. Amira had seemed a bit concerned but Twilight wasn't even fully aware of it either.
They left and Twilight Sparkle was left once more alone with not a single friend by her side. Twilight Sparkle didn't feel as alone though, she still thought her friends were right there with her even though they weren't really there, she thought they were.
“It's so good to be with all my friends and to not have to worry about every pony's problems.” began Twilight when she heard a voice at the door.
“Um...Twilight are you busy?” questioned Fluttershy.
“Fluttershy?” she questioned looking right at Fluttershy not understanding how she could be in two places at once, unless one of them was a fake. She knew the Chrylasis might be testing her to see just what she would do if she tried to fake being one of her friends, well she wasn't about to fall for it! She went to the door and let the “fake” Fluttershy in, making it seem like everything was normal, but she wasn't about to let this fake get away, she was going to show her just why Celestia had trusted her to take on the rule of Leader of Equestria after her own reign.
“Twilight, I had a lady come to my cottage the other day, she was having trouble with a groundhog problem, and you sent her to me. Well those groundhogs really didn't mean to cause any trouble, they were just looking for shelter with the winter coming in a few weeks, so I found them a lovely little place for them to lay their heads and they won't trouble the nice lady anymore but I wanted to come and see you, after all you have been busy with being a leader that I was beginning to worry about your health. Are you sure you can handle this?” asked Fluttershy softly. She knew how hard Twilight must have it, she couldn't even imagine having to have to deal with all of the things Twilight Sparkle would have to deal with, and having to solve every pony's problem could be quite stressful.
“Me? Oh Fluttershy, I'm touched that you are worried about me but this is nothing I can't handle. I mean I've saved Equestria a dozen times and now I get to sit on my ass all day long helping the citizens of Ponyville, what more could I possibly wish for?” questioned Twilight.
“Um...time for yourself?” answered Fluttershy nervously. She really didn't want to upset Twilight, but she also wasn't going to lie to her either and this made things harder for her because she was Twilight's friend and wanted the best for her and she wasn't sure this was the best thing for Twilight, she still remembered how upset she had been the day her old library had been destroyed and now here she was living in Celestia's castle rather than her own.
“What? I have plenty of time for myself. Fluttershy you really shouldn't worry, besides all of my friends are right here with me and that's why your little act is fooling me one little bit Chrysalis.” spoke Twilight.
“What? I don't even see anyone Twilight. I'm not Chrysalis, it's me Fluttershy.” began Fluttershy and before she could further explain herself Twilight was on top of her, pinning her wings to the floor and not allowing her to move from under her. Fluttershy trembled beneath her, and the look on her hues was a look of terror, but more than that she was terrified of her own friend and that was something she had not expected. She had to do something but she couldn't even speak let alone try to move.
“You aren't fooling me Chrysalis, you may think you can act just like my friend, but Fluttershy has been here beside me all morning so I know more than ever that you are an impostor and I'm not about to let you get away.” replied Twilight as she used her magic to stun Fluttershy from moving.
The next thing Fluttershy knew was when she awoke in the dungeon, her hooves chained together against the wall, she felt a collar around her neck that had this little red light on the front that was blinking every few seconds. She nervously looked around and let out an eek of a shriek when she saw a few skeletons of past prisoners whom had been trapped here. Princess Twilight stood outside of the cell as she looked in towards Fluttershy.
“So what's your plan this time?” she asked.
“Twilight, I don't have any plans, I'm not Chrysalis, I'm your friend Fluttershy, element of Kindness, I just want to help but I'll understand if you don't trust me but I'm not an impostor. Please you have to believe me.” she begged.
“Humph, as if, I'm not about to believe you, so until you are willing to talk you will be my prisoner, now if you change your mind and tell me your plans then maybe I might let you go, and if you try to escape this cell if you go even five steps beyond the dungeon area, I will be the first to know, that's a tracking collar I placed on you and don't even try to take it off, I hid the keys, so that only I knew where they are.” replied Twilight Sparkle as she turned her flank towards Fluttershy and walked up the stairs and locking the door to the dungeon behind her. Twilight Sparkle smirked as she looked towards the illusion of Fluttershy.
“Can you believe it Fluttershy? She actually thought she was the real one, like I would ever believe that when you are right here with me.” smiled Twilight Sparkle as she hugged the illusion close and even though it was just air, it was like to her she really was there and felt her hugging her back, and giggling with the Fluttershy like charm. She smiled to herself as she returned to her throne, when she returned she was surprised to find Spike waiting for her.
“Twilight! I've been looking all over for you.” began Spike. Twilight Sparkle looked to her friends, noting that all of her friends were with her except for Spike but if Rarity was with her then why hadn't Spike been?
“Where have you been hiding Spike? Rarity has been with me all morning and yet you were nowhere to be found, did you have to go take care of something with the dragons again?” she asked nervously hoping he had the answers she sought.
“Well...Rarity worked all night and even to lunch working on those outfits for Ra Ra, wait Rarity is here? Where?” asked Spike as his eyes got hearts in them as he looked around for her, looking even behind Twilight and not seeing them.
“Twilight, are you sure Rarity is here?” he asked nervously.
“Oh course she is, do you need glasses Spike? She's been with me all morning.” replied Twilight Sparkle with confidence.
Spike knew this wasn't good, it was never good when Twilight Sparkle started to have a mental breakdown and he certainly didn't want her to go into the future or something to try to fix it.
“Twilight I'm worried.” began Spike trying to remain calm even though he knew that she was anything but calm.
“Spike what's wrong?” asked Twilight not wanting Spike to worry about her or think that she didn't know what she was doing.
“I'm worried this is too much for just one pony, you know Celestia always had Luna to help her but you don't have that. Let me help you, after all we've always been a team why change things now?” he asked nervously to see if Twilight was okay, he would know if she responded positively.
“Oh Spike, I'm touched you are concerned for me really but I'm fine, I can't drag you into this, I am glad to have you as my assistant and that has meant more to me then you will ever know.” she smiled as she pulled Spike into a comforting embrace.
Spike was still worried if she really thought her friends were with her, was she really okay? He couldn't deny he was concerned for her but at least if he was here she would be more calm and he could help her but if she didn't think she needed help then he wasn't really sure what he could do to help her, it left Spike in a very unsure position, he wanted to do something but what could he do?
Twilight Sparkle began talking to her friends about Chryslasis and how she had tried to sneak into the castle as one of her dear friends Fluttershy and how she had her locked up in the dungeon now to think about her crimes and once she was willing to talk and not pretend to be someone she wasn't, only then would Twilight free her from her chains.
Spike was listening to Twilight Sparkle talk to nothing, there was no signs of any of the mane six, including Fluttershy, which could only mean one thing, Fluttershy was the one locked up in the dungeon. Spike had to do something but he couldn't let Twilight find out what he was up to. This was going to be tricky but he was Twilight's number one assistant for a reason and he had to make Twilight see the light literally. He had to convince her that she was not really with anyone. He understood that she must feel alone being trapped in this castle all the time but even he knew he couldn't be there all the time.
He looked towards Twilight taking a deep breath.
“Twilight!” he shouted to get her attention.
“What is it Spike?” she asked like everything was normal.
“I'm the only one here, none of the others are here, and that includes Fluttershy, I saw her heading here once I was done helping out Rarity, she was coming to see you.” began Spike.
“Spike you really do need glasses, she's right here unless you are just another changeling. Yes that's it, you are trying to free your leader. Well I'm not about to fall for it, I know your tricks and I won't be fooled. Now you will be my prisoner.” spoke Twilight as she put a barrier around Spike and brought him beside her as she smirked a devilish grin towards Spike whom was now trapped within the bubble begging Twilight to let him go. She couldn't help but wonder how she could prove that he was a changeling, she would need to force his change of his form. She had done some research on Changelings but the best way was to actually experiment and if he really was telling the truth then he wouldn't be hurt by her experiments. She laid him on a medical table strapping him down tightly and locking it shut. She picked up her tools.
“I've always wanted to use this book on medical knowledge, and I've never preformed this kind of experiment either this is going to be so much fun. Wouldn't you agree Spike?” she smirked as she picked up her scapel and began to fool around with it, Spike cringed in pain and couldn't believe this was the best friend and sister he had known for years. What happened? He had only been gone for a day and now he feared for his own life, and not just that but Fluttershy was in danger too.
“Someone help.” he shouted but he knew Twilight had a bubble around them so that no one would hear his screams of pain. Though he knew that Twilight wouldn't kill him and he was a dragon so yes it hurt but he would heal with time but he didn't deserve this kind of treatment and he was in awe that Twilight Sparkle didn't trust him he looked up towards her looking right into her eyes, and he wished so much that she would realize what was going on and return to the Twilight he had known but deep down he knew she might be gone forever and that was more scary then any tool or pain he might endure, the terrifying thing was losing his good friend and his sister. He wasn't sure what to do or how he could help her but as her loyal assistant he wouldn't give up he had to find a way, to reach her. After all he knew if he didn't get through to her no one else could after all he had been with Twilight ever since the two were young, while she was still attending magic school. Oh sweet Celestia, these tools really hurt but he couldn't even move let alone escape, he just hoped he could find a way to reach out towards her, it was just figuring out how to do that while enduring the pain of her “experiment.”

Chapter 5: Illusion of Reality
It felt like it went on forever and every bone in his body ached but Twilight had dashed off in a hurry when she heard a familiar voice from outside the room he was currently locked in. Now that Twilight was gone from the room, he could actually get out of here. He had to hurry, there was no telling what she might do next, and he was more worried then usual because that voice was all too familiar to him. Rarity....he couldn't let Twilight hurt her. He'd risk his own life if he had too.

Twilight Sparkle walked straight up to Rarity whom had entered the Canterlot Palace.
“Oh I absolutely love how you have decorated this place, quite fitting if I do say so myself. Twilight are you okay? I know this hasn't been easy on you and both Spike and I are rather worried for you. Is there anything I can do to help?” questioned Rarity.
“Oh I'm fine. Perfectly fine, why wouldn't I be fine? Is not like being the leader of all of Equestria is hard! No it's easy, you both worry too much.” replied Twilight with a bit of a twitch in her eye.
“Dear, no offense I know “fine” and you are certainly not fine. Come on you know you can tell me anything.” spoke Rarity as she put a hoof on Twilight's shoulder, wanting to show her she was there for a good friend.
“Well...I guess it couldn't hurt to talk about it but not here. I've been seeing changelings disguised as our friends, I'm worried Chryalsis might attack at any moment. Come with me to my chambers, I'm sure no pony will hear us there.” replied Twilight as she couldn't help but glance back and forth with worry. Then she realized something she hadn't thought of, what if Rarity was a changeling? She seemed like her normal self but changelings were very good at acting. She had to find a way to see if it truly was Rarity, but first they needed to go to her room where she'd have privacy from the changeling attack or what she thought was a changeling attack. She was starting to see double Rarity's almost like there was two of her. She quickly shook her head then seeing only one of them. Why was this so gosh darn complicated? All she wanted was answers and right now not even her books would help her. She had to get to the truth of the matter and she knew exactly how to do it.
Rarity decided to go with Twilight, she wasn't sure why Twilight thought Changelings were invading her Kingdom, Chrysalis hadn't been seen since Starlight and her friends defeated her and Thorax had become the leader of the Changelings. Rarity couldn't help but notice how some of the ceilings seemed a bit dusty, it was unlike Twilight to not be organized, she wouldn't miss such a crucial detail. She decided she would ask her once she figured out what was wrong. Twilight wasn't herself and she also couldn't help but wonder where Spike was, he was rarely ever not with Twilight so the fact he wasn't here wasn't right. She didn't want to assume things, but if it really was a changeling attack, who was to say that Twilight wasn't a changeling, either that or Twilight simply wasn't herself. Rarity was really worried now and was more determined than ever to get to the bottom of things.
“Alright, we're here.” smiled Twilight as she opened the doors to her personal chambers. A master bed was in the center of the room, covered with a lavender blanket, with two lavender pillows to match on each side of the bed, then to each side of the bed posts was two dressers, each with a lamp on it, one was in the shape of Discord, probably a gift and the other was simply a normal lampshade. The carpet wasn't lavender but a nice shade of dark blue which complimented the purple splendidly so. On the walls were pictures of Twilight with her friends through different periods of time. She couldn't help but smile seeing a picture of her with her friends after she had become a Princess. It was truly a spectacle to watch. She was getting distracted by all the details of this room, she had to focus. Focus Rarity, Twilight might be in trouble! She took a deep breath as she looked towards Twilight with care and love in her eyes.
“So tell me how do I know you are the real Twilight?” began Rarity. She couldn't help it, if she was being accused of not being herself, then she could throw it right back, she wasn't about to let Twilight assume that everyone was a changeling, especially when it was her whom wasn't in the right state of mind, it was clear as crystal and she wasn't afraid of speaking up about it. Tough love, that's what it was.
“What? Of course I'm the real Twilight. Why wouldn't I be?” questioned Twilight defensively. She was Twilight right? Now even she was wondering, she couldn't even trust herself? Or was this simply a trick by the changelings to get her to let her guard down. No she wouldn't, she had to show that she was a strong leader, even if it meant she'd have to do it alone.
“Dear, listen to me I know you and I know that Twilight wouldn't be acting like this way unless something was wrong or unless she had been replaced by someone else. And in all honestly I wish you were a Changeling, because I don't wish to fight such a good friend but if I have too I will.” spoke Rarity. She really wasn't much of a fighter, she was a lady but for her friend, she'd do just about anything...even if it meant getting her hooves dirty and muddied.
“Rarity....I...” began Twilight. She really couldn't disagree with her there, fighting a changeling was easy compared to having to fight her friends. Her ears drooped down and a frown appeared on her face. But a small part of her kept saying it was all a trap just a game to get her to lower her guard....she wasn't sure what to do or what to think.
Rarity walked up towards Twilight, once again putting a hoof on her shoulder and leaning her head against hers.
“You aren't alone dear, we are all here to help you. All you have to do is ask. I know how busy I can be with three bontiques but I'm never too busy to not help out a friend in need.” explained Rarity. She truly wanted to help Twilight but she really wasn't sure what was wrong, the only thing she knew was that something was clearly bothering her. Rarity was wishing she had a change of costume at this moment for this was one heck of a puzzle and how she did love her mysteries.
Twilight sighed to herself. What was she going to do now? Did she truly know that this was Rarity? It seemed like she was normal but on the other hand she knew how good the changelings were at mimicking someone else, but they didn't have this kind of care. A changeling wouldn't offer this kind of support, the support that Rarity was giving. A very slight smile form on her lips as she embraced Rarity in a hug, her wings spreading out.
“Oh thank goodness, it's actually a real friend.” she smiled.
Rarity of course returned the hug but couldn't help but wonder about Spike. She looked towards Twilight.
“Dear....if I may ask where is Spike?” she asked curiously.
“Wasn't he with you? I mean I did find a changeling that was trying to be Spike earlier but I took care of him.” smiled Twilight.
Rarity looked really concerned now. “What pretell do you mean dear by “take care of”? She didn't want to think the worst but right now it wasn't looking good. The only good thing was Twilight seemed to believe that she was who she said she was. At least she had that much going for her. I mean how was it possible for anyone to mimic her? She was beyond fabulous and no changeling could compare to her.
“Well he came back from your boutique and something didn't seem quite right so I decided to lock him up and do some experiments. Oh course if he is Spike he's fine but if it's a changeling I imagine he's in quite a bit of pain right now.” smiled Twilight proud of her work.
“Dear that was Spike. You can't just go locking any pony up because you think they are a changeling. Chrysalis is gone, you have nothing to fear, Starlight defeated her remember?” questioned Rarity wanting to get through to her somehow but it was like this Twilight was different than the Twilight she knew and loved.
Twilight blinked and her eyes twitched. She shook her head. She wasn't sure what to do or what to think, she had been sure that both Fluttershy and Spike had been changelings but if Rarity was right she had just imprisoned her friend and her assistant was in pain because of her. She felt horrible...absolutely horrible. But then she felt that twisted grin it was almost like her mind couldn't decide what to believe. In her confused, she grabbed Rarity forcing her down onto the bed.
“What is WRONG with me!?” she questioned her pinning her shoulders down and making sure she wasn't able to squeeze out from either side.
“Twilight...please calm down. I have no idea what is going on here but do you really think this is a solution? Imprisoning your friends, hurting Spike and now pinning me here...to your bed.” replied Rarity with a very faint blush. If this had been normal Twilight it might not have been so well frightening. But she truly didn't know what was wrong. All she knew was that just the other day, Twilight had seemed fine and now it was like she was crazy. Not quite insane but certainly not herself.
Twilight didn't know what to do... she felt so lost. She had tears in her eyes as a slight teardrop landed on Rarity's cheek. If she really did do all this then she should be the one locked up, especially if she had hurt her friends but if this was all just a trick of the mind then why couldn't she seem to snap herself out of it? She felt so lost and so confused and then in the midst of her confusion she laid down on top of Rarity sobbing...
“Please....help me...” she begged.
Rarity wrapped her hooves around her and tried to soothe Twilight into regaining some assemble of herself, Rarity only hoped it would work because if it didn't who knew what would happen next.
Something has gone wrong. We don't seem to have an archived copy of that chapter. Chapter 7: The Answers I Seek.
Twilight Sparkle had to get down to her royal library and see if there was any knowledge of this ever happening to any pony before, perhaps it wasn't just her. Of course Spike was right by her side. She wasn't about to waste another previous second. She often wondered why Celestia had chose her to be the new ruler of Equestria, sure she had come a long way, from the pony she had used to be, but this? She wasn't sure any pony could handle this. Then a thought occurred to her...had Celestia gone through a similar thing when she first started ruling? Perhaps it was all part of becoming a leader? She hoped her books would lead her to some answers. She was desperate to know that she wasn't alone in her trials. She was tired, so sick and exhausted of being alone. Her friends...she needed them and without them what was she? Without her friends, she was just another pony, no pony special, and the thought stung her worse than most villains she had faced.
“Twilight...” began Spike. “You aren't alone, even when I'm not around, I'm always with you, right here.” Spike smiled as he pointed towards her heart.
Twilight Sparkle couldn't help but smile slightly towards him.
“Oh Spike.” replied Twilight wrapping a hoof around him and nuzzling against his head softly. He always did know just what to say to cheer her up. They had this, together they would figure it out, and then she would no longer have to be alone. She hated it, she hated not having her friends with her. She had felt so alone and so lost, she would usually consult to Celestia for advice, but she couldn't really do that. Celestia had moved on, to who knows where, and for once she had to rely on her own instincts and judgements.
Twilight took a deep breath when she arrived in front of her old castle. She couldn't help but smile at it, she had remembered hating this place, but thanks to the aid of her friends, it had finally felt like home. Maybe that was something she'd have to do with the new castle at Canterlot, have memories of her past there so that she could then go and make new memories, better than the memories she had been making recently...She closed her eyes, took in a deep breath holding it for a few seconds, before releasing it. She had to relax, and not overreact. She didn't want to hurt any pony, espicially not her friends. There had to be answers somewhere in her library. She opened the doors to the castle and walked inside. She could already hear Trixie in the distance.
“The great and powerful Trixie, is getting even greater at magic! All thanks to Starlight's wonderful teaching. Oh Starlight, how can I ever thank you?” smiled Trixie as she wrapped her hooves around Starlight.
“Just keep practicing and don't get distracted so easily, that's the best thanks you could do.” replied Starlight Glimmer.
Twilight Sparkle walked in to see the cutie map right where it always had been for as long as she could remember. She couldn't help but smile every so slightly. She sure did miss this place. It just wasn't the same in that boring castle, and oh and for celestia's sake, those guards were beginning to drive her mad!
“Hey Starlight, how have you been?” asked Spike casually.
“Oh you know, same old, same old. What about you two? How's life as the leader of Equestria going? Is it everything you ever dreamed of?” questioned Starlight as she looked towards Twilight, a look of true concern for her teacher on her hues.
It was good to see Starlight, she truly had come such a long way, since the days of her little town in the middle of nowhere. Now here she was, teaching others about friendship, she had even managed to teach Twilight a lesson she wouldn't soon forget. Twilight almost for a split second, forgot the reason she had come here in the first place. She hurried over towards the bookshelves, and began to use her alicorn magic to quickly shuffle through book after book until she had quite a few piles of them surrounding her. Hmm...perhaps this one?
She began reading, but quickly realized it wasn't helping. She went to book, after book, after book. She looked and looked but it seemed nothing would help. She was getting just a little frustrated as she let out a neigh of exhaustion, and hoofpalmed when she came to a relaxation. The castle of the two sisters! Surely...there had to be something there that could give her the answers she sought. She quickly turned on her tail as she yelled over towards Spike.
“Come on Spike, I have an idea.” she giggled excitedly. She couldn't wait to get back to the castle of the two sisters, it seemed like forever since she had been there.
Spike had been casually talking to Starlight, when he heard Twilight call him. “Coming!” he spoke as he ran his little tail over to meet with her.
“None of my current books seem to have anything that could help, so I'm thinking I'm due another trip to the castle of the two sisters.” smiled Twilight as she clapped her hooves together. She did quite love to go there casually and read more of Celestia's journal, but this time she was hoping to find an answer to her current situation. She wasn't crazy...she wasn't about to believe it. It was just stress right? She did have a bad habit of freaking out over nothing, like the time she had forgot to send Celestia a letter. She had just about gone crazy that day. She knew this time wasn't like then, she had learned a lot since then.
“Alright, let's get going then.” smiled Spike in return. It seemed like she was back to herself, but he couldn't help but hestiate a bit. He was nervous about being alone with her again, of what might happen. He didn't let it show, he wouldn't let her down. He was her number one assistant and he didn't take that role lightly, he was going to make sure she was okay. He desperately wanted the old Twilight back, compared to the one he had seen early. The one whom didn't even listen when he cried out in pain because he wasn't a changeling. He took a deep breath before following by Twilight's side.
Twilight Sparkle knew this had to be hard on Spike, concerning what she had done...but she would make it up to him somehow. She wasn't sure quite how yet, but she wanted Spike to know that she loved him more than he knew. He had always been with her, she couldn't let him down.
The path itself wasn't nearly as intimiating as the first time she had tracked her hooves through these sacred old woods. Danger was always around, heck Ponyville was attacked by a bug bear that one time. She wasn't scared or nervous, and she was more relaxed because she Spike by her side. She knew he would always be there for her, just as she wanted to always be there for him. She stopped in her tracks, turning hoof to look towards Spike.
“Spike...I'm truly sorry about what happened.” began Twilight as she closed her eyes, ears flattening towards the ground. Why? Why had she done such a thing? And why couldn't she remember it? She then felt a claw on her shoulder. She glanced towards Spike, looking rather desperate and a bit depressed.
“Twilight...please don't think about that now. It's in the past. We have to focus on now, getting information, and finding answers. Who knows better than you how to find an answer when it seems impossible? Come on Twilight. We can do this, I know we can.” spoke Spike, trying to encourage her. He wanted her to know that he wasn't going anywhere, and he wasn't giving up on her. Not this Twilight, this was the Twilight he wanted to so desperately cling too. To hope against all odds, that other thing wouldn't come to the surface once more.
“Spike...thank you. I'm sorry. I just felt so lost. It was like I didn't even know what I was doing. Your right though, we need to focus on the present, and right now I couldn't be happier than to be right here with you by my side.” replied Twilight Sparkle. She felt renewed in a way, and if it wasn't for Spike here with her, she wasn't sure she'd feel this way. This certain sense of calmness that washed over her. She would usually lean on her friends for support but she didn't want to hurt anyone else, so she had to do this mostly on her own, but she was glad for Spike's assistance, despite his fear, he was still right there by her side. It made her smile towards him softly.
Twilight Sparkle continued on forward, after all it wouldn't help her any to simply sit in the Everfree forest. She would have to take a visit to Zecora on her way back, and see if she had anything new and interesting for her to further study. She hummed herself a little tune as she walked, occasionally looking to be sure she wasn't going too far ahead of Spike. Of course she was weary that the Everfree forest was filled with mystery, but that had never stopped her from going to the castle for further visits.
Twilight Sparkle made the descend down the stairway, followed by Spike. The winds seemed revantly calm, and it was eerily quiet, especially for the Everfree Forest, she couldn't help but wonder why it was so quiet, but she didn't pay much mind to it. She hurried on into the castle.
The castle really hadn't changed that much, it was still pretty well demolished, she and her friends had done a bit to make it more livinable than it had been before. Twilight began to pour through book after book. She was bound to find something. She didn't care how long it took, or how long she had to be here in order to find an answer, she wasn't leaving until she knew she was normal. She wasn't crazy....she wasn't crazy...she wasn't crazy...or was she? She sighed heavily, as she continued reading.
Spike on the other hoof was gathering more books from the higher bookshelves for Twilight to look through. Spike wasn't much of a reader himself, unless it was about heros. He sure did love those kinds of books, but the books Twilight usually read weren't ones he was really interested in. He sure hoped for both their sakes that Twilight would be okay, but he did wonder what had caused her such distress. Was it simply the fact she was the ruler of all Equestria and she was cracking under the pressure of knowing she had the whole of Equestria in her hoofs? He wasn't sure. What he was sure of was that he would be here for her, no matter what happened, even if that other Twilight returned. He wouldn't leave her, but he couldn't help but tremble at the thought of losing the Twilight he knew and loved again. He wasn't sure he could handle it, so he had to do his best to prevent it. Spike glanced down to Twilight, whom was pouring herself in her books. Heh. He couldn't help but admire how hard she worked, when faced with a problem. She would do all she could to find answers, and he admired her for that.
“Spike! I think I've found something.” shouted Twilight excitedly.
Spike hurried down from the ladder he had been standing on, and dropped down by Twilight, eager to see what she had discovered.
“I intentionally thought I might find something in Celestia's journal and I was right.” clapped Twilight.
“Oh? What did you find?” questioned Spike glancing over the pages she had opened to, he began reading.
It is within my best interest and to all my citizens to write down what I have found, being a leader it isn't easy. You will likely come across this yourself my young sister, but there are many burdens I have beared, that I cannot share. I would not want you to feel this amount of pressure, nor would I ask you to take it. I hope sister, that someday you can see why I distanced myself, I never meant for things to go this far. Truly, I am sorry.”
It's clearly written from Celestia to Luna, but I don't know if Luna ever even read this journal. What do you think Spike?
“Honestly, seems like being a ruler is hard work. I can only imagine what Ember is going through right about now.”
“Oh don't worry Spike, she'll be just fine, after all she had a good teacher.” smiled Twilight softly.
“Aww, shucks, you really mean that?” asked Spike.
“Of course I do. She wouldn't be a good ruler if you hadn't shown her how to rely on others, and show her it wasn't just every dragon for herself. You would have made a good dragon Lord but I'm glad you chose to stay with us, Rarity and I, we were really worried about you.”
“You shouldn't have worried, I knew what I was doing.” replied Spike. “You trust my judgement right?”
“Of course I do, why ever would you ask that?”
“Because...the other Twilight didn't listen to me, she didn't believe me when I said I wasn't a changling, so I have to know you trust me or else I might...worry about you.” explained Spike.
“I'm still sorry about that.” replied Twilight. She wasn't sure how many times she could appoligize but each time she was just left with that feeling of unease and tension. She didn't want to hurt any pony, she didn't want to be that other Twilight, but for a brief moment she wondered if perhaps there was no way to avoid it. She might not find an answer she might have to live with knowing that she could hurt her friends at any second and she just couldn't live like that. She knew she had to find answers and normally, she'd seek Celestia's advice but she couldn't.
Perhaps she had relied too heavily on Celestia's teachings and advice. She would have to make her own judgements now. Sometimes she would mess up, and she may make mistakes but as long as she kept a level head, and remembered all she had learned, she wouldn't go crazy. At least that was her hope. Truthfully, she wasn't sure at this point, even the library hadn't provided too much of an anwser. Twilight couldn't help but feel like a burden, why? Why did this have to happen? Why had Celestia chosen her? She must have known she could handle it, then why did she feel like she was literally falling apart, she once again, felt a claw upon her shoulder, but this time, the claw pulled her frame towards him, and embraced her in a soft and comforting embrace.
“Twilight, you aren't weak. No matter how much you feel like nothing, you are everything. You have proven beyond a doubt that you are worthy of being a Princess, and Celestia's student. You are Twilight Sparkle, and the whole of Equestria believes in you, so don't you go giving up now. Come on Twilight, we can do this, I know we can, because I know the real you.” spoke Spike. Twilight just sobbed, as she held onto him. She just didn't know, where to go from here. She felt so lost. She'd give almost anything to be able to speak with Celestia again. What was ascending anyways? She wasn't about to try to correphend it, but she did wish she could understand it, but she doubted there was much knowledge of it. She calmed herself down, as she held onto Spike. She looked towards Spike, and wondered what he would do in her situation. She needed to make a list. Analyze her situation, read all she could, and then solve the problem. She knew exactly what she needed to do, just not how to get to where she needed or even wanted to be, which in turn left her in such a confused state of uncertainly. Twilight Sparkle was the Princess of Friendship, she had faced much harder things before. She could do this...she could do this. She looked towards Spike with a slight smile.
“You're right Spike. I just lost my focus. Now let's keep digging.” replied Twilight as she poured herself once more into her research and knowledge that had been left here just for her own benefit.
Spike couldn't help but watch her as she went from book, to book, after book. He couldn't help but sit there and wonder what he could do to help her. He knew she wanted answers, but maybe it wasn't a book that had those answers. She needed to talk to an actual pony, but he was the only one here. When he had been on the verge of becoming the Dragon Lord, he knew he would have to sacfrice his home of Ponyville for the greater good, but Spike didn't want to see Ponyville ruled by someone like Garble. He was willing to give up being able to see his friends, if it meant Ponyville would be safe from the threat of the dragons. He knew what Twilight needed, something that had been on his mind for awhile now. He carefully went up to her, not wanting to startle her, as he tapped her on her back.
“Twilight...” began Spike hesitantly. He felt a drop of sweat running down his brows as he began to speak.
“Yes, Spike?” questioned Twilight, listening to him eagerly.
“You are nervous, about being a leader and well, I was too. I was terrified I would never get to see my friends again, but knowing what could happen, I had to make a choice. I had to choose what was best for Ponyville. It's up to you, to decide what's best for Equestria, it may mean giving up certain things like living in Ponyville, and getting to see your friends as much as you used too, it doesn't mean you have to change who you are. You are Twilight Sparkle, and only you can do this, because you know what's best, the difference of right and wrong. I'm only sorry, I didn't realize this sooner.” spoke Spike.
“Oh...Spike.” replied Twilight wrapping her hooves around him. Spike returned the embrace tenderly. Perhaps things were beginning to look up.
Why hadn't she realized it too? What had blinded her? She kept pacing back and forth in the castle for a good half hour, before looking back towards Spike. She wondered if Celestia had gone through the same thing, is that why she had written in that journal, and appoligized to Luna for her actions? Perhaps...but she still wasn't sure. Though one thing she was sure of, she wasn't crazy. All of this was totally normal for one to go through when becoming a leader, that gave her a certain amount of relief and eased her mind.
Author's Note
It took awhile, I know but I finally got around to writing this chapter. I am only sorry it took this long, but I do hope you are all enjoying the story. Also, if you aren't following me, I'm going to be going for Surgery on March 8th so I'm not sure when the next update will be, but it will most likely be the last chapter. I am really proud of how much I was able to do with this concept but it's nearing it's conclusion, I just wanted to thank all of you who gave it a chance and decided to read it. Let me know in the comments, what you might like to see in the future!
Twilight Sparkle and Spike had spent quite a bit of time in the library of the two sisters, so long that Spike was starting to grow bored of being here. He had already started to doze off. Twilight Sparkle didn't stop him, he had already given her all the encouragement she needed. She know understood more than she had in awhile. Being a leader was hard, she was going to have her good days, her off days, and the days she wished were simply just a declusion. Twilight had time to ponder and to truly think of which direction she might go as a leader. She thought immediately of Celestia, a respected ruler, who was idolized by many, hated by few, and yet even she had made mistakes, she constantly was reminded of, the worst of those mistakes was having to banish her own sister to the moon. It had changed her. Twilight Sparkle knew this, because it was her whom had ultimately saved Luna from the Nightmare she had become. Then she thought of Luna, sure it had taken her quite some time to her to get used to Ponyville and how ponies treated her, but ponies adorned her despite that, and lastly, she thought of her best foal sitter ever, Princess Cadence. She cared deeply about her family, and her Kingdom and it served the Crystal Empire well.
What about her? Sure she was the Princess of Friendship, and for quite a while, she had pondered on her own purpose for even being a Princess, her fellow Princeses had tried to give her encouragement and needless to say, it hadn't really fully sink in, until Tirek had arrived. Now here she was, in Celestia's own hooves and she had just felt so lost in it all. Knowing it would be up to her to make such important decisions for the ponies of not just Ponyville but all around...she wasn't sure she could handle it. She couldn't help but glance over to Spike. Spike had been willing to give up everything he had, so that they would be safe from the threat of the dragons. No matter what Spike was loyal to Ponyville, loyal and trustful to her, and she couldn't have been prouder of how far he had come. She huddled down beside him, just wanting to cuddle up against him. She let out a soft long extended yawn, even she was exhausted from all this reading. She knew she already had the answer she needed, and she knew that answer wasn't any book, it was Spike. He had given her calmness and a new outlook on life.
“Twilight?” began Spike as he rubbed the sleep fuzzies out of his eyes. He had fallen asleep? He couldn't remember how long they had been down here but it was clear Twilight had been up to her nose in books, again. Spike was sometimes a bit jealous he wasn't a book, he wished Twilight would rely on his advice more often, after all she had taught him so much that he respected and valued her opinions. He gently shook Twilight wanting to wake her from her slumber.
“Twilight...” he spoke softly.
Twilight Sparkle slowly opened up her eyes, looking towards Spike curiously.
“Spike? What's wrong?” she asked curiously.
“Don't you think we should head back to Ponyville now? We've been here for awhile now.” began Spike rubbing the back of his scales nervously so. He wasn't sure if Twilight was back to her normal self or not, but she seemed to be revatively okay, so he was hoping maybe things would be back to normal now. Hoping, for the best, because he didn't ever want the other Twilight to come back. She was truly more terrifying than any of the villains they had faced together. Evil Twilight was scarier then Tirek and Discord together, and he didn't even like thinking of that thought.
“Not yet, Spike. I'd like to tell you something before we head back.” spoke Twilight as she softly stroked Spike over the head with her front hoof.
Spike was unsure what she had to tell him, that was so important that it couldn't wait, but he listened eagerly, knowing this Twilight would not hurt him, he had to make sure this was the Twilight he wanted to stay, the one he wanted to love.
“Spike you and I have always been a team, but when I failed, you still wanted to believe in me, even when I didn't believe in myself. I hurt you...I didn't mean too, but I know I did, how can you ever forgive me?”
Spike felt a few sweatdrops run down his scales, as he chattered just a bit nervous like. “That's what family does, friends too. We forgive and forget, and we learn from it.” spoke Spike softly. His voice was tender, and crisp, but yet nervous about what she might do or say.
“Oh Spike. I'm only sorry I didn't see it sooner. It's more than just that. It's love.” spoke Twilight.
“Love?” questioned Spike.
“Oh course, you loved me long before I knew, and now I see why. Spike oh Spike. Forgive me.”
“I will.” smiled Spike as he embraced Twilight in a hug.
It was in that very moment Spike realized his crush on Rarity was simply that, a crush, nothing would ever develop between them. It was Twilight whom he actually had things in common with. The trust the two had in one another. The belief, and the hope they'd always be there for one another. It was more than Rarity could ever give him, he had always thought Twilight saw him as her kid, or brother, he had never expected Twilight to love him like this. To truly embrace him, like he wasn't a baby, but an actual dragon.
“Twilight...” he began. “Can I kiss you?” questioned Spike nervously. He didn't want to ruin the moment by heistating, but yet he found himself full of jitters, and his knees buckled between him as he took a gulp of a deep breath, waiting for a response.
“Of course Spike.” smiled Twilight as she leaned down more towards his level so he wouldn't have to reach more up to her.
Spike leaned up and pecked Twilight on the lips, he wasn't sure how it would feel to kiss Twilight. He had always imagined kissing Rarity, but this was not like that at all. It was a feeling of knowing how much he was appriciaed and loved, and actually treated with respect.
Twilight Sparkle didn't want to rush this moment, she wanted to truly enjoy this sensation that ran all throughout her spine. She went to deepen the kiss, pulling Spike closer to her, as he hugged her forelegs while kissing her deeper. Twilight leveled herself with Spike, knowing she was a tad bit taller than him, and not wanting him to strain his neck. Spike took his claws and carefully delicately stroked his claws through Twilight's wings as he held her against him. He was in a rather odd position, but he couldn't help admiring the view he had even from the front. He never really thought about it before, but now that he was thinking about it, he would have had the perfect view of her rump from behind quite a many times. Perhaps he had been too focused on Rarity to realize that Twilight was every bit as beautiful and sensual? He then couldn't help the thought of exploring every inch of her luxurious body. He rubbed with his claws first, feeling along her wing tips, going over them to her flank, and giving it a soft squeeze.
Twilight let out a soft yet gentle moan of delight, she never realized how much claws could feel so good on her fur. Oh dear Celestia! Twilight kneeled down towards the ground with a longing of lustful thoughts running through her mind. She couldn't even believe she was thinking such thoughts.
Spike remembered all of Rainbow Dash's teasing about him not being a man, or a dragon for that matter, well...Twilight had never doubted him. It was time he showed how much of a man he could be. He clenched a fist in front of himself as he looked towards Twilight whom clearly wanted affection from his touch. He stroked her fondly over her mane, letting his claws sink in slowly, delicately so, and tenderly so. He didn't wish to hurt her, but make her feel all sorts of goosebumps through her body as he lightly touched her here and there, and everywhere.
“Spike...” began Twilight.
Spike knew then and there what he needed to do, but he never expected it to be with Twilight of all ponies. He took a deep breath as he went around to her pump rump, massaging each side of her flank, positioning himself for what he was about to do. Was he dreaming? No...it this had been a dream it would've been Rarity, so he knew he wasn't dreaming. This was all real, and all his. He starred for quite a few minutes before Twilight used her magic to put his face right where her wet pussy was waiting. His dragon senses took over him and he began to eat her out, unable to control his complusions anymore. He licked at her womanhood with his slitted tongue, enjoying the taste of the wet moistness coming out of her, and his eyes seemed to shift, and he no longer questioned if he wanted her, he had to have her.
Twilight Sparkle moaned out in sheer joy, she never thought she'd be okay with this, but it was very clear she wanted this. Twilight Sparkle wanted more, oh so much more.
“Oh Spike...” she whispered half panting half begging. “Don't stop.” she mumbled through another moan of soft delight upon her palette.
Spike continued his work for awhile, knowing that he wanted it to be meaningful for the both of them. He licked at her clit, moving from her clit down into her sensitive moist hole, licking in a circular motion, as his claws held onto Twilight's rump squeezing gently, yet in a teasing manner. Spike wasn't sure when it happened, but he felt his dragon dick getting hard just by being near Twilight so intimiately. Spike gulped. He wasn't sure about actually having sex with Twilight. Would it be okay?
“Go on Spike...it's okay.” whispered Twilight urging him on, after all he was driving her made with want, if he didn't do it soon, she might just have to pleasure herself and that was rather boring compared to what he could do to her and what she wanted him to do to her in turn.
Spike moved his tongue from Twilight's rump and positioned himself between her. He took a deep breath before going into her. He didnt' want to go too fast or too slow but soon his instincts just took over him, and he lost all sense of himself. He could feel himself lusting after Twilight, feeling himself inside Twilight was unlike any sensation he had ever imagined. It felt heavenly...it was almost too good to be true.
Suddenly he felt himself erupting all over her, after all it was his first time and he didn't have the best control over it as of yet, so it was literally all over the place, sticking to just about everything. Twilight Sparkle smiled back towards him.
“You know Spike...being the leader of all of Equestria, might not be so bad after all, with you to always rely on when I need a helping hoof.” smiled Twilight softly, kissing the top of his head softly.
“Aww shucks, Twilight. Anything for you.” smiled Spike as he cuddled up with Twilight. The two could worry about a bath later, right now he just wanted to be near her, be near the pony whom had always believed in the great and glorious Spike.
Just then Twilight Sparkle woke up in her bed, in Ponyville. She looked out towards the sky, able to see the night moon. What had happened? Then standing there in front of her was Celestia and Luna.
“Luna told me about your dream...I was a bit worried so I came to see if you are alright.” spoke Celestia softly.
“Wait? What? You mean that whole thing was just a dream?” she asked as she couldn't help but blushing at the thought of them knowing she dreamed about sleeping with Spike. Spike had always been there for her, it was no wonder she might have dreamed of it. That was the part she didn't understand.
“Yes, it was only a dream.”
“Being a leader isn't easy Twilight, and I want you to know, when the day comes for you to truly take my place, I know Equestria will be in good hooves. After all you have already surprassed many of my epectations for you, so I expect no less when you truly do take my spot someday, but today is not that day.” spoke Celestia softly as she nudged against Twilight's snout wanting to comfort her.
“Oh...thanks.” smiled Twilight Sparkle. It was all a dream. She hadn't went crazy, she hadn't hurt her friends, and she hadn't fucked her baby dragon. It was over...she was simply Princess Twilight Sparkle.
Author's Note
Well, I hope you have all enjoyed this ride. I truly had to think a LOT when writing this, and I'm glad I was able to do something with this concept. Let all those know that the best stories can literally come out of nowhere and from a friend that thinks he can't provide anything meaningful. I would have included AbsoluteZero's initial train of thought as an epilogue but he asked me not to so you'll just have to figure out how this came to fruition because I respect his wishes. I hope you all will now go read some of my other stories. xD.
Chapter 2: No time for friends
Twilight Sparkle had everything under control, she had a schedule made of what times were best to start and end things and she even made sure to make sure to keep some time for her friends but now that, that was taken care of she would need to make sure everything was perfect. First cleaning, with a smile on her face she levitated a duster with her horn as she began dusting the entire palace, any trace of dirt or muck could be an offense to any of the more royal ponies she was to meet with later in the day and she certainly didn't want another case like with the Yaks.
“Well I'd better get started!” exclaimed Twilight in an excited gaily like tone as she began flying around the castle, of course making sure not to miss even one little nook or corner. First she made sure to fly up high and get the spots that only a talented eye could see after all these were royals and they wouldn't miss out on something like that. Once she was done there it was time to do the ceiling, after all who would even think to try to clean the ceiling? Only she would think about that. She couldn't believe how dusty it was up there! She coughed a bit as she would shield her eyes with her one wing while keeping control of her flight with mostly her other wing while she continued dusting from top to bottom until she reached the center, the center wasn't horrible. Certainly not nearly as bad as the rest of the ceiling, she let out a deep sigh when she was finished. Though she couldn't help but notice how dusty she had become and all the dust had fallen to the floor, she was beginning to think this would take quite some time but she was determined to finish it before Spike arrived with the snacks. She then decided to bring in a giant trash box to store all the dust and junk into. She used her magic to simplify the project making it a lot easier of a mess to clean up.
“There! All finished.” smiled Twilight after another hour of work. She couldn't help but admire her own work, the castle was spotless from top to bottom not even the smallest strand of dirt or dust remained.
“Hey Twilight I'm back with the snacks.” spoke Spike as he came in with both his little hands full of snacks piled up so high it was amazing how he could carry it all and not drop a single thing.
“Oh good just in time. Wow Spike that sure is a lot. Stay right there, I'll use my magic to levitate them where they need to go.” began Twilight when Spike interrupted.
“Twilight, I'm not sure how much longer I can hold these like this, and you should probably get cleaned up first before handling snacks meant for royals.” explained Spike, he might not be able to see her that way because of the pile he was holding but he could sure as hell smell that she was filthy. It was his role as her number one assistant to help Twilight and he knew how focused she tended to be when it came to events like this and such.
“Oh dear, I'm a mess and I don't have that much time left to get ready. Spike can you take those to the kitchen? It's just down the left wing and through the double doors, just take your time. I'll be back as soon as I can.” replied Twilight as she dashed off towards the royal bath.
Spike let out a sigh as he couldn't see two feet in front of him but he was determined not to fail. He couldn't let Twilight down, she was so worried about ruling Equestria and all he had to do was deliver snacks to the kitchen.
Twilight hurried towards the bath as she was probably dragging dirt behind her but right now she needed to get clean, then she could clean up the tracks she had left back to the main throne room, she only needed to wash up and quickly dry off. She only hoped that Spike didn't make even more of a mess then was already there, she knew she could count on him though. She turned on the hot water, using her horn to make sure the temperature of the water was just right before she grabbed a washcloth and stepped into the shower. The hot water on her body felt quite refreshing. She let out a slight “Ah” of relief as she grabbed her shampoo and began vigorously rubbing it through her mane and then in her tail. She would then rinse before adding conditioner to make sure her mane and tail were completely clean. After that she would grab the body wash and began lathering her body with the soap, making sure to be careful around her face making sure not to get soap into her eyes, as she finished washing up her body, and would then let herself under the water making sure to get all the suds off of her. She stepped out of the shower and dried off as quickly as she could, she dashed off to make sure that Spike was okay but she was honestly quite surprised to see that her tracks were already gone. She went to the kitchen finding all of the snacks laid out on the table and even organized by category. Oh she was so proud! She had just a bit of a tear welling up in her eye when suddenly from behind her she heard Spike's voice.
“Hey Twilight did you finish your shower?” he asked in a calm and gentle tone that was just like him.
“Yes I did and it was quite enjoyable, I see you already taken care of my mess for me, I have to thank you for that. You even managed to get all the snacks here without dropping a single one and even organizing them by category, oh Spike I'm so proud of you!” exclaimed Twilight as she pulled him into a big hug spreading her wings out in happiness.
“Ah don't worry Twilight it was nothing really. I mean with all the stuff you have on your plate it's the least I could do.” replied Spike in a very mature and even courteous tone. Twilight couldn't help but to shed a tear, here she was stressing out about just about everything and here Spike was being the loyal and faithful assistant he had always been, she don't know why she had worried. She could always count on Spike to be there even when times were tough.
“Twilight...you're crushing me.” pouted Spike.
“Oh...I'm so sorry. This being a ruler hasn't been easy but I don't know where I'd be without you Spike.” replied Twilight as she let go of Spike. Though before she could even have a moment of peace she heard horns being played from outside, she hurried to gaze out the window and sure enough the nobles from Saddle Arabia had arrived. Twilight Sparkle didn't even have time to truly appreciate this tender moment with Spike as she hurried down to greet the two noble ponies at the gate of Canterlot, it didn't take her long to get there as she was finally getting used to these Alicorn wings. It had taken her some time though but thanks to Rainbow Dash she really was getting a feel for it. She stood before the two nobles, as she bowed her head down in respect even though she was a ruler too she still showed respect for the other nobles.
“Greetings, I am honored that you would come to see me, what can I help you with? Are you hungry? Thirsty? Tired? Anything at all I will do whatever I can to make your stay comfortable. Was it a long trip? Did you have harsh weather? What's it like out in Saddle Arabia?” she questioned towards the two not even really realizing she was going on with questions without letting them answer each question first.
The two delegates of Saddle Arabia looked towards one another before looking back to Twilight Sparkle.
“Miss Twilight Sparkle we come here to see what all has changed since our last visit, where are the Princesses?” asked Haakim in a confused manner. Of course they both knew of Twilight's Alicorn status but she was just a student learning under the guidance of Princess Celestia so of course they expected her to simply be here to lead them inside to the ones really in charge.
“Well actually...quite a lot has changed since the last time you were here, including the fact that Celestia and Luna aren't here anymore. Celestia put the future of Equestria in my humble hooves which I was above honored to accept.” explained Twilight Sparkle.
The two Arabian stallion and mare looked to one another as they whispered among themselves before responding.
“Is this some sort of joke? We have no time for games young Twilight Sparkle. Where is Celestia?” asked Haakim in a rather annoyed tone of voice.
Twilight Sparkle looked confused as a drop of sweat ran down her brows. She took a deep breath and repeated herself adding, “I'm not joking, I'm serious.”
The stallion and mare didn't say another word as they just nodded and Twilight Sparkle smiled as it seemed she had finally gotten through to them. The rest of the day was spent mostly entertaining the two and showing them the sights of Canterlot, even the restaurant that Pinkie Pie and Rarity had helped to fix despite all the other restaurants being the same because of the critic. Ever since they had been called by the map, Canterlot was a more enjoyable place to eat.
“Thank you Twilight Sparkle for such an enjoyable evening, perhaps Celestia choose wisely in choosing you as her successor, you are quite the event organizer.” smiled Amira speaking for the first time, she usually let her husband speak at events but she wanted Twilight to know that she was doing a good job despite her lack of well nobility standards, and she really needed to get some guards.
Twilight Sparkle waved to the two of them as they left the castle with their saddlebags full over their backs, she couldn't help but smile and fall to the floor.
“Few!” she spoke exhausted. Who knew it would be this tiring to show ponies around all day long. She still needed to raise the moon tonight too. She hoped she had some time left for her friends. She hurried to check the time and it was already getting dark, most if not all of her friends would be asleep by now and Spike was fast asleep in his basket, she couldn't help but be a bit disappointed at this. She had hoped she would have time for her friends, but it seemed like the only thing she had time to do was make lists, sure she was really good at it, but that's not what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. She wanted to spend time with her friends, and enjoy activities with them. A deep sigh escaped her lips, as she leaned against the balcony looking up towards the sun, remembering that one it set she was to raise the moon. She couldn't escape this feeling of inner dread, this feeling that she might never see her friends and she began to understand why this role was so hard for any pony to fill. She was not Celestia but she was determined not to fail but she missed the castle and Ponyville and getting to spend time with the cutie mark crusaders, and she even missed smiling and waving. What was her purpose now? Sitting on a throne and entertaining nobility, yay...so much fun she couldn't help but roll her eyes at this. She just wanted to go home but the problem was she was home, this was her house now and she couldn't escape from it, she was trapped.
