Chapter one: The Beginning

Princess Fluttershy awoke to the sunrise that shined in from her bedroom window. Her teal eyes fluttered open and s out a stretched her wings and sitting up on her bed. A couple of birds perched at her window, tweeted sweetly. Fluttershy smiled at them.

"Good morning." Fluttershy said to the birds getting out of her bed going to the window and feeding the birds some seeds she had in a book by the window for any feather friend. Fluttershy loved animal no matter want if one came by she should try to befriend them

Derpy woke up to the birds tweet and stretched her wings before getting up. Derpy loved animals all most as much as her sister.

"You all must be hungry after all it's long journey from the other kingdoms, or at least that's what mother saids." Derpy said. The birds chirped in agreement. There was a loud knock at the door.

"Oh dear you all better fly away." Fluttershy said.

"Come in!" Derpy called to whoever was on the other side. The door open to reveal a servant in a dark colored uniform.

"Princesses," she said. "The Queen wishes to see both of you for breakfast."

"We'll be right there." Fluttershy said. Fluttershy and Derpy both sighed if she had see the birds they would be in big trouble with there mother.

Not wanting to be late Fluttershy slipped into a simple emerald dress, brushed her light pink mane and sat her green tiara on her head as quick as she could. Derpy slipped into a simple dak blue dress, brushed her yellow mane and sat her golden tiara on her head as quick as she could. The castle hallways were lit by trochees and full of creepy shadows that Fluttershy and Detpy got used to. They enter the dining room were the servants went about their business.

"Good morning!" Derpy said brightly. Fluttershys and Derpys mother, Queen Cora was sitting at the end of the table, wearing a black spiking crown sat on her red mane. She didn't return the friendly greeting instead kept her serious and cold look. Derpy lowed her head and she sat on one side of her mother, well Flutershy sat on the other side.

Ever since they were born, Queen Cora had frowned upon her daughters's kind and gentle nature.
'No doubt inherited from that father of yours.' she had said. Before she was banished, the queen had married a handsome stallion named Butterscotch. Each day, King Butterscotch wished that his wife would abandon her dark ways and return to being the mare he knew and loved. He loved Fluttershy and Derpy just as dearly and taught both of them the value of showing kindness and consideration for others. Shielding them from any sadness or loneliness that dared to take root in their young heart. Sadly, he'd passed away in a battle far away.

Since then, Fluttershy and Derpy would find theirselves crying softly some nights, wanting their father to return to them. To tell them that everything would right itself out. No pony, other than their mother, dared speak to her (for fear that they were just as bad as the queen), leaving them with no pony but each other (and an occasional critter) to comfort them.

The queen felt no sadness or anger for her husband's passing, declaring that she and her daughters were better off without that fool. With him gone, Queen Cora began to push Fluttershy and Derpy into her studies. So that they could one day fulfill their destiny.

"Have you two been working hard on your studies ?" Queen Cora asked. Fluttershy and Derpy gulped.

"Y...yes, mother." Fluttershy and Derpy lied. Queen Cora had been trying to train her daughters in the ways of being an evil queen and the art of black magic. 'You'll need to control your abilities if you're to one day rule over all ponykind.' she'd said. But in truth, Fluttershy nor Derpy had any interest in evil or anything like that. But at the same time, they didn't want to disappoint there mother.

"Recite the qualities of an evil queen." Cora said. Fluttershy and Derpy straightened up in their seats and recited the words their mother had taught them ever since they were born.

"An evil queen is: dishonest, disloyal, greedy, Sorrow, and cruel." Fluttershy and Derpy said in unison. Queen Cora nodded approvingly.

"Remember them, never forget those words." she said. Fluttershy and Derpy nodded. These traits, according to there mother, would make them just as strong and powerful as her. But silently and secretly, Fluttershy and Derpy would think to theirselves, 'I don't want to be like you mother.' The last thing on the poor princesses's mind was hurting other ponies, but there was little they could say or do to make there mother say otherwise.

After breakfast, we'll begin your next level of magic training in the library." Cora said. Fluttershy and Derpy felt their stomach churn at the thought of black magic. It had always scared them since they were fillies, but they couldn't tell there mother. Instead, they did everything they could to please there mother. Even if it was scary and made them feel even more miserable.

In the musty library....

"For this lesson, you shall use your magic to read minds." the Queen said.

Cora closed her eyes and concentrated, her red mane flowing as the black magic began to flow through her, lifting her off the ground. Her sea-green eyes opened, flashing with a harsh fire behind her pupils. Her irises glowed as she cast a spell on Derpy , causing her (Derpy) to fall. Derpy got up.

"Now both of you." Queen Cora said. Fluttershy and Derpy stood glued to the spot, afraid to try and call upon such fearsome power as there mother had. Taking steady breaths, Fluttershy and Derpy concentrated as best as they could, only able to lift four inchs off the ground. They landed back down, there mother looking at them with disappointment.

"Pathetic." the Queen said. Fluttershy and Derpy looked down at the floor. 'Why can't I do anything right?' Fluttershy and Derpy asked theirselves. No matter what they did, they'd never be able to do anything right, and would never meet up to there mother's expectations.

"I'm sorry mother." Fluttershy and Derpy said in unison. Before the Queen could lecture them, there was a loud squawk. The unicorn , and the two pegasi looked up toward the ceiling, where they saw a fiery bird, a phoenix, circling the air. It swooped low and dropped a white letter before flying out the high library window. Fluttershy and Derpy watched the bird with amazement while there mother examined the letter.

"A letter from Canterlot castle." Cora said with narrowed eyes. Fluttershy and Derpy looked at the letter with great curiosity. They never got any letters, and to get one from Canterlot was certainly curious.

"What does it say?" Fluttershy and Derpy asked in unison. The Queen's eyes scanned over the letter as she read it aloud.

Dear Queen Cora,

It's been a long time since last we spoke. I hope you are fairing well. I've written to you to offer a chance to give your daughters a chance to learn how to be a great and noble ruler at a special school for princesses/ duchesses. My Sister and I have created the school in the hopes of better teaching the royal families of Equestria. I hope you will allow your daughters the chance of not only learning to better help ponykind, but also to make friends. I await your reply tonight, and shall send a carriage to pick up your daughters if you do decide to let them go.

Sincerely- Princess Celestia..

"A school...for princesses/ duchesses? Fluttershy and Derpy asked in unison. The idea of them going to school with other ponies was both thrilling and terrifying. They'd rarely met anypony outside the castle, and only spoke to each other, the servants (though they hardly replied, and there mother. Not only that, but this was a message from Princess Celestia. There mother's old nemesis. The pony who banished her to her own kingdom for all these years and was now asking for her daughters to attend her school. They looked at there mother expectantly to see what her answer would be. A small smile crept onto the Queens face.

"This, my dear daughters, is exactly what we've been waiting for." she said. Fluttershy and Derpy tilted her heads in confusion.

"It is?" Derpy asked . Her mother's eyes gleamed as a plan started to form in her mind. No doubt that whatever it was, it wasn't very pleasant.

"You will both go to this school and once there, you'll find a way to free me from this cursed barrier. Then, together as mother and daughters, we shall rule over the pitiful ponies." Fluttershy and Derpy said nothing, not wanting to get there mother angry at them. It was an interesting thought, but it seemed...risky. Not to mention impossible! How in Equestria could they lift a barrier casted by two alicorns? They could barely handle the simplest of her mother's basic black magic spells.

"Come with me my darlings." Queen Cora said leading her daughter to the throne room. She shooed any straggling servants who were dusting so that she could speak to Fluttershy and Derpy privately.

"I've waited patiently all these long years for a chance like this. You have been slowly progressing in your studies, something that until now I've let slide. Now however, my dear Fluttershy and Derpy you need to stand firmly and start acting like the evil Queens you are meant to be." Fluttershy and Derpy slouched, avoiding looking at there mother's face. The queen faced them.

"Promise me, that no matter what, you will do everything in your power to not only free me, but to seize you're rightful place as the rulers of all Equestria." there mother said in a serious tone. Fluttershy and Derpy looked up at there mother's face then back at her own hooves.

"I-I promise mother." Fluttershy and Derp said in unison quietly. Queen Cora smiled.

"Good. Now, we must prepare for your departure. There is much to do." Fluttershy and Derpy knew they had to keep her promise, but at the same time, she hoped that somehow at this school she would find an answer to a question that plagued her mind. Should they follow there mother's teachings and be the new Queens of Evil, or be their gentle selves.
