Your Human and You: Adventures of the Griffon Girl
Confessions and the Elephant in the Room
Previous ChapterNext ChapterI was holding Vinney with an embarrassed look on my face while I watched Wench fan Medallion with her wings. I felt terrible. I felt so so bad. How could I do that to the poor stallion? Of course all I did was speak to him, but still. It was awful. Vinney was laughing and wriggling around, giggling with little bits of gibberish. He was smiling and jabbering. He fit in little words like "Baba" and "Binky".
"A-are you sure I can't do anything to help?" Vinney squealed and babbled at the sound of my voice. It was a strange deep-ish accented voice of someone from West Africa. Wench looked at me and her eyebrows furrowed, as if she were angry or deep in stressed thought. Or both.
"Y... You could... You could get two glasses of water. One for me, and one for Medallion." I nodded and set Vinney down, leaving him to squeal and squeal like a baby bird. I walked into the bathroom and searched, finding a few cups, for some reason, in the bathroom cupboard. I filled three with water instead of just two, and carried them out and set them on the table. I carried one to Wench and handed it to her.
She looked at me with a smile and nodded once, and threw it on Medallions face, making him wake up with a loud yelp. Vinney began giggling loudly with happy little claps from his paws. I chuckled too, but in a more nervous and scared type of way.
"I'm OK... I'm all good. It was just a dream, that's right? Baladia can't really talk?" He was looking at Wench and I, smiling. Vinney squealed and jabbered some more in the back of the room. I felt extremely nervous.
"Oh no... I can. I j-just... Don't think it's a good idea..." I was smiling extremely nervously and looking at them. Wench took a breath and looked at me, wandering her eyes to me.
"Let me... Let me go take Vinney and put him in his playpen, and then we can talk. Baladia, why don't you put on some coffee." She was smiling calmly, but I could feel her panic. She was as alarmed as she tensely walked over to the door with the baby gate in front of it, and she opened it, then closed it again behind her. I looked at her and took a deep breath as I heard the door click closed, and I was left alone with Medallion there, sitting still. He was nervously staring at me with his ears laid back and his smile quivering. I stared at him and smiled a bit, looking at him.
"Th.. The coffee. I have to make the coffee." I walked over to the counter with nervous hands and shakily began working the old fashioned coffee kettle. It was strange to make coffee this way, but the room didn't have much that was up to date. I guess you don't need it to be for it to be beautiful. I was smiling the whole time, my smile fake and plastered nervous across my face. I shook a bit and set the kettle on the stove, and searched for a way to light it up. He looked at me and used magic to move my face and hands back, and then he lit it with his magic. It burned on its own. I nodded a bit and slowly made my way back to the table and sat down.
"S-so... Um... N-nice... Night huh?" I was looking at my hands tightly being clenched in frond of my on my cup of now room temperature water.
"Y-yes... Indeed it is... The constellations are in full view." He was looking out the window, trying to distract himself from the what was speaking, but the words themselves.
"Constellations? Could you... Could you maybe show them to me?" I nervously stood up and walked over to the window, and sat next to him. I was shorter than him, to the point where I felt I was to small. Or he was to big? Either way, he was strangely absorbed into the stars. He started using magic to hover some in my vision, outlining them using his magic, and bringing them down in a magic hologram.
"This is Odysseus. He sailed the Siren Seas to get back to his home, but... I don't know the full story. I didn't pay attention in literature class as a colt." He laid his ears back and looked at the floor, a blush coming across his fur somehow. He looked back up and pulled down another constellation, this time it was a young filly with a bear standing next to her. I vaguely remembered this one, looking carefully at it. I liked this one something about a girl being raised by a bear for the first part of her life and then meeting a tribe of warrior men.
But all of this was a distraction from the main topic of the night. The elephant in the room, which Wench wanted to leave us to discuss.
"Medallion, please don't be upset with me because I can talk." I was looking at the ground and tearing up in nervousness. I stood up and moved to the coffee pot. I began pouring two cups, one for me, and one for Medallion. I knew what he liked, two lumps of sugar, a little milk, and a bit of cinnamon. I liked mine... Pumpkin spice. That's how I liked mine. You can't stop me. You can't. No one can! I shook myself out of my self monologue.
"You.. You don't need to accept it yet.. You don't need to do anything for me. But I want to let you know, that back in my world, where I'm from, people that looked like me... People that sounded like me were... Hurt. hated. They were oppressed. They were killed because others thought it was best to do. I was always being thrown through a loop to... To just get food every day at lunch. That name, Mikros? That was a... Place.. I went to that was for kids who were seen as... Bad. Troubled youth is what we were called," I chuckled a bit. "But then I was brought here. Then I had... Everything I knew thrown to the ground. Then I had everything I've worked for thrown up into the air, destroyed, and handed back to me on a shit stained carpet in place of a silver platter." I was tearing up and clenching my cup, sniffling a bit. Medallions ears were laid back, tightly against his head. I stopped making my coffee and looked at Medallion.
"I'm sor-"
"And I have never been any happier in my LIFE."
I heard something from the door and slowly turned to see Talon standing there with his eyes wet from tears, and his jaw dropped to the floor. Oh boy.
