Coming Out of the Closet

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Slasher came by in the morning to bring me out and say goodbye before she had to go to school. It shattered my heart, but I would have to wait to communicate until she had gotten home. This pissed me off to no end, and I glared at the wall next to where the newly established "Human Corner" was located. There was a waist high baby fence keeping me inside, and when I needed to get out I just... Stepped over. Everyone would always be surprised by how I got out. What the hell? Were humans here really that stupid?!

Oh no a fence that barely stretches to my hips! Whatever will I do?! Ugh, come on. My annoyance was written upon my face as I stumbled past the drunkards wasting their paychecks here at the bar, and I walked into the kitchen. I found Wench trying to make an omelet for some reason, and she was failing. Badly.

I grabbed a soup pan and grabbed some rubber-ish thing and stretched it as tightly as I could over the top, and gave it a bong. The sound was satisfactory, at the very very least. Wench glanced at me to see what the sound was, and was about to hit me with her spoon, but I was already out the door, humming a little tune as I beat my newly made drum.

Some of them began to click their beaks and I tilted my head to make it seem like I had no clue what was happening. No matter how easy going I was, when I got bored there's no stopping me, wooden spoon wielding Griffon threatening to beat me or not!

Narrowly avoiding another spoon swat to the head, I staggered up onto an empty table with a chair stacked on top and I at down holding the drum in my lap, and when Wench went to bat at my side with the spoon, I grabbed it from her hand and beat the drum.

DUM

DUM

DUM

DUM

It's a hard'nuff life for us- nah I'm kidding.

The last thing I wanted was to remind myself of home right now.

I drummed and drummed until we got a lively beat going, flute players playing their flutes, the fire crackling merrily and to top it all off, Wench wasn't trying to beat my face in with a spoon or broom stick! Instead she let me do my thing, and she went back to tending to the customers, happy humming and laughter filling the dark afternoon air with merry excitement, a time between the children being sent to school, but before everyone went home. This was beautiful.

Everything ended about an hour later, when the drunks decided to head home to their wives and hatchlings, and I was left alone with Wench to sit and hear the silence.

"Mikros... You are just the strangest human I have ever seen you know that?" Wench's voice was soft and tired, and she began to clean. I began to think about something and I stopped myself from doing it out of fear of consequence. What would they do if I revealed myself to anyone but the most understanding? I could understand them, but could they understand me?? This thought scared me slightly, and I don't know where it came from. My head began to hurt from such thoughts and I sat down back in the humans corner to rest. She began to clean up the surrounding area and I began relaxing.

The door swung open and I swung my head around to see the new griffon... Only to find an equine form standing in the doorway. He glanced towards me and I just blinked the sleepy surprise from my eyes as he trotted inside and looked around. His eyes were a dark dark blue, and his coat was a grayish color. On his flank was a picture of a medallion with Greek, Roman, and Egyptian letters on it with smaller symbols below it.

In followed after him Slasher and Talon with Claw carrying a bag of something. My mind reacted slower than my body and I jumped out of the corner, and darted up the stars, scaring the living daylights out of the young Unicorn. He yelped as I ran up the stairs and into the room that was being used for me.

"WAIT-! MIKROS WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" Wenches voice rang out following me up the stairs and I dove for the paper I had stashed under my bed. I scribbled something on it and then hid it again just in time for the door to ram open with Slasher behind me. My face brightened and I went to grab it again before the others followed her up the stairs and I became frustrated and gave a small grumble as I rubbed the bridge of my nose.

"... I think she's sick." Talon trotted up behind me and I huffed annoyedly.

No! No one asked you Mr.Murderous Feather Brain!

I took the wooden spoon that I had used to beat the drum... And bopped him on the head with it.

This earned a fit of laughter from Slasher and a loud snort from the unicorn behind everyone in the hall. Who was he?! Was he a regular customer?! I whined and pulled the pillow over my head to emphasize covering my ears.

"Ohhh! She's just got headache! I'll stay here to make sure she's OK, I've been reading about human care for months now!" Slashers voice rose in pitch the more excited she got. Finally, yes please everyone go!

"I... I don't know Slasher..." Wench looked at me cautiously and I hugged Slasher submissively. This was the hardest to do because she was squirming like an excited puppy.

"Hey! Put me down, I'm not a hatchling!" She fluffed her crest and bit my finger. I yelped and dropped her to the floor and held my finger and blew on it to stop the throbbing. The pain went away, and Wench was about to collapse in exhaustion. Talon and Claw would take over the inn and bar for the night and Claw guided her mother to the bedroom. I sat, a look of envy on my face temporarily, before the door was closed magically by a strange red aura and I looked around confusedly, before remembering the unicorn.

I went to grab for the paper until Slasher dragged me by the back of my poncho toward her. My face became a haven of annoyance. I picked her up and grabbed the paper, holding it up for her to see.

The silence was deafening, and I began to wave my hand in front of Slashers face after she recited the words on the paper.

"My name is not Mikros... And yes I'm the one who wrote this. And don't scream! Don't tell your mom, and don't tell anyone?! Why?!" I flinched away and motioned for her to shush. I wrote quickly and held her beak gently.

~Because! I don't know what your mom would do to me! Nor Talon, you know he wants to plucking EAT ME!~

"But... They won't hurt you...! At least.. I don't think so..." Her voice went quiet and I nodded. This was going to be a long few hours.
