Unexpected Desires

Evening had arrived in Ponyville and like they always do, Twilight and Starlight headed to the library to do something that they both enjoyed, studying. While both of them enjoyed studying magic, both of them knew so much that finding something they were unfamiliar with was getting harder and harder so that night Twilight decided they would study something completely different, something they had never studied before. Twilight decided that they should study about the development of relationships between ponies.

When Starlight saw Twilight grab a book involving the development of relationships, she couldn't help but be a bit surprised. She asked, "The development of relationships? Why are we going to be studying this?"

Twilight replied, "Well it is just for a change of pace." She gave Starlight a slight nudge and continued, "You're not going to believe this but this is one subject that I have absolutely no knowledge about."

Starlight couldn't believe it, especially given that her brother had married a princess. She asked, "Really? I would have thought that you'd know a bit about it watching your brother and Cadence grow close."

This was something that Twilight never really thought about as she just figured that they grew close while she was her foalsitter and they spent quite a bit of time together but didn't want to go too into much detail with Starlight. She replied, "Well no, I never thought about it."

Starlight gave her a curious look while they were reading through the book. Twilight seemed to be quite fascinated by the book while Starlight was very disinterested as she would much rather be studying magic. Twilight noticed this and nudged Starlight again, "Starlight, I know this isn't magic but just give it a chance. You might wind up learning something important." She gave Starlight a third nudge and continued, "I know you aren't going to just remain the type of pony who will never want to be close to anypony, I'm sure a mare will come along someday and you will want something special. What better way to learn about how things might work out than through a book!"

Starlight sighed, "Well if you say so but I'd rather be studying something constructive."

Twilight knew how Starlight was and just hoped that she would learn something. As they read further into the book and about how physical attraction often times aids in the emotional bonding of two ponies, Twilight couldn't help but step a little bit closer to her student. Starlight wasn't tired by any means but yawned out of boredom. Twilight saw this and asked, "Are you even paying attention to this?"

Starlight had been somewhat but not completely. She replied, "Yeah, physical attraction can make ponies feel closer to one another. Sometimes it makes them consider giving somepony else a chance despite them not having a ton of things in common."

Twilight smiled because Starlight actually had been paying attention but was a bit disappointed because she was not investing any emotion into learning about this. Starlight had simply been treating this more like it were something like physics, that it was nothing that could not be proven or disproven outside of mathematics and direct observation.

Finally 2200 had arrived and both ponies had become rather tired. Starlight was the first to let out a genuine yawn, "I don't know about you but I'm pretty tired. I think I'm going to hit the hay."

Twilight too yawned, "I think that sounds like a pretty good plan. You have sweet dreams Starlight."

Starlight replied, "You have a good night too Twilight."

As Starlight headed up the stairs Twilight couldn't help but have her eyes glued on Starlight's flank. She was mesmerized by the way it swayed back and forth as she walked up the stairs. Once Starlight had got out of eyesight and earshot, Twilight said to herself, "How could she be so disinterested in something that will benefit her someday." She began to head up stairs and continued, "What is she going to do when a good mare comes her way?" As she walked by Starlight's bedroom she developed a slight smile and thought to herself, "Maybe tomorrow she will be more interested" she began to snicker a little "or I could definitely get her interested!"
