Getting Serious
Celestia's Discovery
Previous ChapterNext ChapterSeveral hours had passed and the sun shone in on the pair. Twilight was able to get a bit of sleep before she woke up but even though the sun was shining directly on Starlight, she did not wake up. This brought out a lot of concern from Twilight because normally the sun causes her to wake up right away, and often causes her to be in a less than stellar mood. While Twilight was hungry, she did not want to leave Starlight alone with the state she was in. She laid there and said to herself, "I hope Spike gets home soon so maybe he could bring me some food up here and I can get in touch with Celestia."
A couple hours after Twilight woke up, Spike arrived home to what seemed to be an empty castle. When he got in and there was nopony there to greet him, he figured that Twilight and Starlight were doing things that he would rather not know about. He sat in the throne room for roughly thirty minutes before something just didn't seem right to him, he could sense that something was wrong so he decided that he would try and find out what didn't seem right.
The very first place he headed to was Twilight's bedroom, figuring that may be where he would find Twilight. When he saw that her doors were shut he sighed in frustration, figuring that the two were likely still doing things he would rather not know about. Those thoughts would soon be shattered when he heard quiet sobbing coming from the bedroom. He opened the door and found Twilight laying up on her bed sobbing.
Spike approached Twilight and asked, "Twilight, what's wrong? Why are you crying?"
Twilight motioned for Spike to jump up on their bed and when he saw Starlight sleeping despite the sun shining on her, he understood why Twilight was crying. He asked, "Twilight, what is wrong with her? She never sleeps when the sun is shining on her!"
Twilight really didn't want to tell Spike the whole truth so she would just tell him a little bit, "Yesterday she was doing some intense studying and she went into a trance." She began to cry, "And she was in this trance for over twelve hours and when she came out of it, she fell unconscious and I've had her up here ever since then."
Spike wasn't exactly sure what to think as he had never seen anypony study so hard that she went into a trance before. Twilight saw the stunned look on his face and continued, "Spike, get me a scroll and a quill. I need to get in touch with Princess Celestia."
Spike did as ordered and readied himself to start taking a note but Twilight grabbed the quill and scroll so she could write it herself. This was not like Twilight at all, to Spike it seemed like she was being a bit secretive. He asked, "Twilight, what's wrong? You normally have me write your messages for you."
Twilight had a slightly annoyed look on her face as she replied, "I just need to write this myself, alright?"
Spike sighed, "Oh alright."
Twilight began to write the message,
"Dear Princess Celestia,
Yesterday Starlight and I were in the library and Starlight did some really in depth studying. She studied so in depth that she went into a trance and didn't come out for over twelve hours and when she did, she fell to the floor unconscious. Right now she is asleep and she is normally already up by this point. I don't know what is going on but I am really worried about her. If you know anything about ponies going into trances and how it affects them, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Princess Twilight Sparkle"
Twilight opened a window, handed the scroll to Spike and ordered, "Send it."
Spike sent the message and hoped that it would not be too long until she heard back from her. While they were waiting, Starlight again began to mumble in the language that she was speaking while she was in the trance. Spike's eyes grew wide and he asked, "What in Equestria is she saying?"
Twilight replied, "I'm not sure. Yesterday when she had went into the trance, she was speaking that way. I don't know what language she was speaking but it didn't sound like anything from the modern world."
Before Spike could say anything, he coughed up a scroll which Twilight grabbed and read,
"Princess Twilight,
I am not sure exactly what happened with her but I think I will know more if I can see what is going on myself. I will be there shortly.
Sincerely,
Princess Celestia"
Twilight's pupils shrank when she read this. She had a feeling that Celestia might know what Starlight is mumbling about in her sleep and had her fears that Celestia may ask what it was that Starlight studied to cause her to go into such a trance.
An hour after hearing back from the princess, there was a loud pounding on the door, so loud that Twilight even heard it up in her bedroom. She ordered, "Spike, go answer the door."
Spike nodded and headed down to answer the door. When he answered it he was greeted by a concerned Celestia, "Spike, I got Twilight's message. Where is she and where is Starlight?"
Spike pointed towards the stairs and replied, "They are up in her bedroom."
Celestia nodded and headed upstairs. When she got to Twilight's bedroom she heard quiet sobbing. She noticed that Starlight was laying down in what at the time looked like a peaceful slumber. Celestia approached the two and asked, "Twilight, what's wrong? Why is Starlight still sleeping this time of day."
Twilight replied, "Well like I said in my message to you......"
Twilight was cut off when Starlight began to mumble in the same language again. Twilight gave Celestia a look of concern and continued, "I don't know what's going on. She keeps mumbling every now and then and I have no clue as to what she's saying."
When she heard Starlight speaking in an ancient language, she had a feeling that whatever is was that happened, that it likely wasn't good. She asked, "Twilight, you said she was studying something very intently, right?"
Twilight gave her a nervous look and replied, "Yes, that is right?"
Celestia gave Twilight an intense look and ordered, "If you know which book it was that she was studying, could you go and get it. If I know what caused her to go into this state, then maybe I will know what we can do to wake her up."
This was the one thing that Twilight really hoped would not happen. The very thoughts of Celestia finding out that she was going to have Starlight get her pregnant terrified her. All she could do was hope that the princess would not be angry at either one of them and hopefully give their relationship her blessing.
Twilight headed down to the library and right to the table where the book Starlight was studying sat, still turned to the same page it was when she fell unconscious. Before grabbing the book and heading upstairs with it, she began to read it and very quickly felt herself feeling woozy. She knew what was going on, she knew that if she didn't stop that she would go into the same trance Starlight did so she stopped reading and took the book up to her bedroom to give to Celestia.
When Twilight returned to her bedroom, Starlight wasn't mumbling as much as she was speaking clearly and this brought about concern from Twilight since Celestia was watching her very closely. To Twilight, it was almost as though Celestia actually understood what she was saying. She nudged Celestia and said, "Here it is, this is the book she was studying." She opened the book to the right page and added, "This is when she went into the trance."
Celestia began to check out what she was studying and she realized exactly why the trance took so much out of Starlight. She also knew what it was Starlight was trying to learn and was not thrilled. She turned to Twilight and asked, "May I ask why Starlight was studying a fertility spell for horn sex?"
Twilight blushed but found herself unable to speak which brought out suspicions from the princess. She again asked, "Twilight, why was Starlight studying this?"
Twilight replied, "Well you see, her and I have become marefriends and......"
Twilight was trying to word things out just right but would be interrupted by Celestia, "You two became marefriends and decided that you wanted to have a foal?"
Twilight replied, "Yes, well it was mostly me who wanted us to have one. I had to reassure Starlight that I would marry her if she got me pregnant but once I did that, she agreed."
Starlight again began to speak in the language she had been causing Celestia to bring something else up with Twilight. She asked, "Twilight, we can talk about this whole you two wanting a foal thing later on but how much do you really know about this spell?" She cast her gaze at the slumbering Starlight and continued, "Do you want to know why she is doing this? Do you want to know why this took such a toll on her?"
Twilight had a feeling that whatever it was Celestia was talking about, that it was not good. She replied, "I don't know much about it, I just know it is a fertility spell."
Celestia sighed, "Well let me tell you more about this spell, why it exists and why she is speaking the way she is."
Twilight nodded prompting Celestia to continue, "This spell predates the arrival of Luna and I by at least a thousand years so of course the world was much different. It came from a time when mares pretty much ran the show with everything and they viewed stallions as inferior, they viewed them as barbaric and they certainly wouldn't consider mating with them so they developed magical spells to procreate."
Twilight's eyes began to grow wide as she was learning something completely new. She gasped, "Seriously, there was a time before you and Luna when stallions were viewed that way?"
Celestia replied, "Yes, it was a different time with a vastly different culture."
Twilight asked, "Ok, I know that it came from a different time but why did studying it take so much out of her and why did she start speaking like that when she was in the trance?"
Celestia replied, "Twilight, she is speaking the language that the ponies of that time spoke. I'm not completely familiar with the spells of pre-Equestrian ponies, but if I know what I'm talking about, while she was in the trance, she likely entered the body of the mare who wrote it and cast it."
Twilight stood there in shock trying to wrap her mind around what Celestia had told her. The whole concept seemed so foreign to her as nothing like that ever happened with spells written by Equestrians. Celestia noticed that this may be a good time to know better why Twilight wanted a foal with Starlight but something would distract her when Starlight came to, "Ugh....what happened?"
When Starlight came to, Twilight was ecstatic. She was so worried that her beloved marefriend may have wound up being in an extended coma because of the trance she went to. Celestia too was happy because not only would she not have to try to use magic to wake Starlight up, but she could get answers over everything involving their relationship and their desire to bring a new life into the world.
