Gaining from The Lost
When The Flames Rise
Load Full StoryNext Chapter“Awww, do I have to?”, said a young filly.
“Yes Muffin, you have to get your rest, it’s very important”, replied her mother.
Derpy Hooves was trying to get her daughter Dinky into bed, yet the little filly was full of energy.
“But I’m not even tired”, Dinky said grumpily.
Derpy sighed, she knew this wasn’t going to be easy.
“I’m sure, now please go to bed, I promise it’ll go by fast”, Derpy responded with a smile.
Dinky sighed and did what she was told, lying her head down on her pillow. Derpy pulled the blanket over her daughter and turned off the light.
“Good night Muffin, Mommy loves you”, Derpy said as she walked out of her daughters room.
Derpy made her way down the hall and into the sitting room, where she sat on her couch. She turned on the lamp beside her and began to read a book. About 15 minutes in, she heard a crackle and a pop, and turned to her right.
The lamp was on fire, spitting a spark out every second. Derpy jumped back in suprise as the fire began to spread, and ran to the kitchen to get some some water. She got the water, but it was too late. The fire was engulfing the space at an alarming rate, and began to travel towards the stairs.
“Oh buck! Dinky!”, she cursed to herself as she flew upstairs.
She raced to her daughters room, and picked the filly up. She had reached one problem, however. The exit was downstairs, yet the fire was engulfing the bottom half of the home. Her face dropped when she realized there was no way out. Then she noticed a window beside Dinky’s bed. She opened it gently, and gently floated to the ground. It was then that Dinky woke up.
“M-Mama? What’s going on?”, she said tiredly.
“The house is on fire Dinky! We have to go find help!”, Derpy shouted as she ran towards the neighbors home.
Dinky gasped and buried her face into her mother’s chest. Derpy only held on tighter as she knocked on the neighbors door.
The door opened slowly, and a turquoise mare popped her head out.
“What do you want Derpy?”, she asked, her face void of emotion.
“Lyra! My house is on fire! We need help!”, Derpy shouted.
Lyra looked over and saw the families house ablaze. She gasped and shouted,
“Bon-Bon! Come here quick!”, she called to her marefriend.
“I already heard, honey. What do we do?!”, Bon-Bon said quickly.
Lyra thought for a split second and spurted out some orders.
“Derpy, I’ll find some help, you stay here and comfort Dinky. Bon-Bon will go with me”, she stated.
The two mares nodded and did as they were told, leaving Derpy to cradle her crying daughter.
“Why did this have to happen, Mama?”, Dinky said, looking up to her mother for an answer.
“I don’t know Muffin, I don’t know.....”, was all she could say.
