It had been a month since that faithful night, the night when flames took over the skies of Ponyville. Derpy and Dinky Hooves we’re living happily with Princess Twilight, Spike, and Starlight Glimmer. Twilight’s friends got used to Derpys company. When they got past her strange exterior, they found a sweet mare who just wanted to do the right thing. All seemed good right?

Well...sorta. Derpy was happy, that was true, but she felt like something missing. She thought she knew what that missing thing was, but she was having a hard time addressing it.

“Of all the ponies to love, it just had to be Twilight”, she thought as she watched Twilight study.

Derpy had always felt very good around Twilight, it was a feeling she couldn’t explain. She at first thought the feeling was admiration, but time proved to reveal a new emotion. Love......and that emotion was something she hadn’t felt in a long time.

“I bet you’d be proud that I moved on, huh?”, she said looking up to the heavens.

Her husband died shortly before Twilight came to Ponyville, so when Pinkie Pie invited her to meet the new pony in town, she took it as a chance to forget. From the moment she saw her, Derpy felt a good vibe from Twilight Sparkle.

“Oh, how times have changed”, she sighed dreamily at Twilight.

Twilight had become a hero since then. Saving Equestria from monsters, dragons, changelings, you name it. But what Derpy done besides raise a filly? Well....she delivered mail.

“I’m not even in her league”, said a now sad Derpy.

In the time she had started daydreaming, Twilight had noticed Derpy’s behavior.

“Derpy? Hello? Equestria to Derpy Hooves?”, she said while waving a hoof in front of her friends face.

Derpy snapped out of it, and apologized to Twilight,

“Sorry Twilight, just kinda zoned out”, she said smiling sheepishly.

“It’s ok Derpy, we all zone out sometimes”, Twilight replied, giving her a reassuring smile.

They sat in silence for a little bit, until Twilight broke the silence.

“So...who were you thinking about”, she asked curiously.

Derpy blushed, but didn’t hesitate to answer,

“Uh..N-Nopony”, she said, trying to cover her tracks.

“Now Derpy, you can’t lie to me, who is it?”, Twilight said with a sly grin.

Derpy begin to sweat, she didn’t expect Twilight to be so interested.

“Well, she’s sweet”, she said, not thinking about her sudden admission.

Twilight gasped, but didn’t seem offended,

“Your into mares?”, she asked.

Derpy began to tear up, but nodded.

“Derpy..don’t feel bad. It’s ok, honestly. I mean....I’m in to mares too”, Twilight said while blushing.

Derpy was surprised, the princess was into mares? That was a genuine shock.

“Who do you have a crush on”, Twilight asked.

Derpy tensed up.

“Uhhh.....”, Derpy said before bolting to her room.

“Derpy!!! Wait”, Twilight said while running after her.

She reached Derpy’s room, and immediately heard crying coming from inside.

“Derpy?”, she called.

No response, Twilight became worried.

“Derpy, please talk to me, I can’t stand to see you like this”, she pleaded.

After a few seconds, the door opened to reveal Derpy, tears and all.

“Twilight, if I talked, you would kick me out”, she said in between tears.

Twilight was shocked, she would never kick Derpy out.

“I would never do that, honest. I just want to know who like”, she said on a concerned tone.

“It’s not like, Twilight, it’s love. And it’s You! I love you Twilight! I have for a long time!”

Twilight only stood there mouth agap, this was quite unexpected.

“You, mean it. You love me, Derpy?”, she asked shocked.

“Yes Twilight, I do. I have since you defeated the Changeling Queen”, Derpy admitted, cheeks on fire.

Twilight looked at Derpy, a lot of thoughts ran through her head.

She then did something she would never regret.

She pressed her lips against Derpy’s, tasting her admirer.

Derpy was surprised, this was all she wanted.

Twilight broke the kiss,

“I love you too, Derpy”, she before nuzzling Derpy’s chest.

They kissed once more, this time leading into Derpy’s bedroom.

This hadn’t been a bad night after all.
