Chapter 16: Land of Giants part 1

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

While trekking, Hell Creek was very different than today. There is no grass, but only has conifer forests, fern prairies, ginkgo trees, redwood trees, and flowering plants. It looks like the aliens haven’t founded this place since they’re far away. Mammals are as big as opossums, but it’s the good thing that dinosaurs didn’t terrorize our ancestors since they steal their eggs, and they’re several lizards, birds and fish are also alive here, and they almost look like modern day animals, but this is a prehistoric place, and for an unknown reason, the animals haven’t evolve into newer species yet (unlike in Peter Jackson’s King Kong).

As we’ve been trekking for hours, its was noon, and we take a break at a creek as we rest on logs and mid sized rocks by sitting down.

“This is like nothing compare to Equestria.” Rarity says, “There’s no grass here.”

“It’s Hell Creek, Rarity.” James says, “When in the Mesozoic Era, there is no grass.”

“How did you know that, James?” I ask,

“I’d study prehistoric plant life, but I’m no paleontologist unlike you.”

Rebecca’s scrubbing her face from the creek.

But something’s not right when an animal takes a drink. “Uh, Rebecca, be careful when near the creek. It’s full of--”

Something emerges out of the water, and Rebecca backs away. A prehistoric crocodile missed its target (Note: That Crocodile was actually a Borealosuchus in which it's one of the prehistoric animals I haven't studied yet), but doesn’t know what it tries to catch.

As the crocodile retreats back to the creek, Pinkie says, “That’s a fully grown Gummy.”

“Thanks for the warning, Brandon.” Rebecca says,

“Try not get eaten.” I reply,

She gives an ‘okay’ hand signal.

I start to worry about when I’m gone from Earth during an alien invasion in Equestria. I’m believing that my parents are worried sick.

Lauren sits down beside me. “Hey, Brandon.”

“Hi.” I say,

“What’s the matter?”

“I’m just... I’m worried about planet Earth. I’d been gone for two or three days, and I’m sure that my parents were worried about me.”

“Yeah, that happened to me.” She says, “I’m sure that they didn’t invade our world before we get there.”

“The aliens? Yeah, I hope so.”

Just then, I hear Nick screaming. “AH! Lizard!” He runs over Fluttershy as a small lizard runs right pass them,

“Does he have a fear of lizards?” I ask,

“He’s actually afraid of reptiles; not just lizards.” Lauren says,

“I’m sure he didn’t see that croc that almost ate Rebecca.” I say sarcastically,

“I heard that!” Rebecca says,

Lauren giggles.

"Hey, Twilight, can you fetch me some water?" Kelly asks sitting beside a log.

"Sure." Twilight holds out a water bottle, and she throws it towards Kelly,

Kelly catches it. "Thanks." She opens the lid, and takes a sip.

"I got more in my backpack."

"I'm not thirsty." James says,

Just then, we feel tiny vibrations causing small animals to flee.

"Did you guys feel that?"

"A little." Applejack says,

Just then, after we hear branches snapping, a herd of Triceratops emerges out of the trees from the other side of the creek, and they gather around the creek for a drink.

Nick grabs his camera, and takes a picture of these dinosaurs.

"Wow! This is magnificent." Kelly says,

"Those are Triceratopses." I say, "I knew they live in herds."

"And you see that big one over there?" Lauren points at the large male Triceratops in the center of the herd. "That's the alpha male."

Males have colorful patterns on their frills while females have no patterns.

"How can you tell the sexes?" James ask,

"Males are more colorful than females." Lauren replies,

"I thought could you tell if they're male or female by... pulling up the dinosaur skirts."

"Don't say it." Rarity says,

"Sorry."

The two male Triceratops, one is an alpha, walk towards each other, and they do a battle position when their frills turn blood red.

"And it looks like they're fighting over dominance." I say,

"I'll go for the big one." Rainbow says,

"Me too." Kelly says,

The two rival males charge towards each other, and their heads collide each other as their horns connect like two deer bucks.

"Yeah! Do it!" Rainbow exclaims,

Fluttershy isn't happy about animals killing each other.

The rival Triceratops's right horn breaks off in defeat.

"Oh, poor thing." Fluttershy says sadly,

As the alpha reclaims as their leader, the wounded male moves on.

"Let's get out of here." I say,

But before we're about to move out, something emerges out of the trees on the other side of the river where the Triceratops herd are. A pack of Dakotaraptors are hunting for prey, and they found them.

"Raptors." I say,

As the herd flees from the predators, the raptors chase them down. But one wounded male lags behind as the Dakotaraptors pursue him as an easy target. The raptors then jump onto the dinosaur as Fluttershy covers her eyes not to see it. The wounded male then falls after one of the raptors' killing claw stabs the dinosaur in the throat.

"Let's just move out." I whisper,

We quietly walk out, but something alerts the raptors, and it's not just us. Unfortunately, it didn't came from the other side of the creek.

"Something's wrong." Twilight says, "What were they looking at?"

We turn to our left at something more deadly then the raptors--Tyrannosaurus Rex. And it looks like it wants an easy meal.

"And we're screwed." Kelly says,

I turn at the trees to my other left that has small spaces for this massive predator. "Okay, when I say 'three', all of you need to follow me to the trees." I whisper,

"Okay." Lauren whispers,

I pause, "Three!"

We turn left, and dash through the trees, and the T-Rex follows, but it starts to slow down due to small spaces for a top predator. We jump over the log, and dive into the bushes as the T-Rex came to a halt behind the log, and then it walks away.

"That was close." I say,

"Nice work, Brandon." James says,

"T-Rexes are as big as school buses, and they can reach up to thirty miles per hour when they need to, but it won't chase after its prey in small spaces like we were in because when the T-Rex trips and falls, it may be fatal due to its heavy weight."

"So the bigger they are, the harder they fall." Applejack says,

"Yeah." I then see an 'imaginary' will-o-wisp from behind us, and then it flies down the forest. "Follow me."

We crawl out of the bushes, and I lead them through the forest as I follow the will-o-wisp's path.

Author's Note

I just wanted to make this story to be more scientifically accurate including prehistoric animals like dinosaurs, and the reason why I hate Hollywood is because of the inaccuracies including Jurassic Park, Star Wars, and most of the Micheal Bay movies such as Transformers, and this is the reason why Mythbusters was my all time favorite TV show. As a scientist, I just don't wanted to have any inaccuracies in this story, but not just to make this story more scientifically accurate, but to make most of the characters including the main characters as kinder and loyal, and to make the creatures more awesome as one of the monster movies. Fantasy, like the story takes place in Equestria, doesn't count on scientifically accurate or inaccurate, but the magic they're developing is made from technology by an advanced alien civilization that made this planet. This story is mostly Science Fiction as well as Fantasy. I'm sure if you readers can enjoy it.
