Night of remembering

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Everyone/Everypony fell asleep besides me. I got up and walked around the barn towards my truck and looked at the damage from the gunshots. Only a flat tire came into view from the help of the light from the moon. I went into the barn and got the spare and began to replace the tire to get my mind off of things.

'I can't believe that I just had revenge for my fathers death. I should have just shot the gun out of his hand and shot him in the leg to stop his rampage on innocent people.'

My worries went back to how I saved six ponies tonight and how I went into rage at the end. I pulled the 9mm out of the glove box and looked at it and then started my procedure of cleaning it.

After finishing I just put more bullets into the clip and put the gun back into the glove box. I looked into the sky. It was about three in the morning. I went back to my new friends to check on them and saw that some where shivering. I went to my pile of wood and made a hole not that far from them and made sure it was deep enough to be able to keep the flames under control. I made a usual wood stack with five pieces of wood and put some straw in the middle to use to start it. I looked back at my friends and saw that more were shivering and got a match and struck it causing it to go into flames. I put it next to the straw and it ignited. The fire spread to the wood which also caught fire. I felt the warmth begin to spread and the fire gave me some light. I looked back at my friends and saw that they all started to smile from the warmth and sat down next to the fire and pulled off my stetson cowboy hat and looked at it and then looked back at Applejacks. I never noticed that they almost looked the same until now, chuckled and put it back on my head and looked back at the fire. I saw that Applejack was starting to move from the corner of my eye and just sat there and thought nothing of it. I had my mind on other things with my father and the past. I went to my truck and got some chocolate, crackers, and some marsh mellows and walked back to the fire. I grabbed a stick on the way back and set the groceries down a couple feet away from the fire. I sat down next to the fire and pulled out my pocket knife and began to carve out a point and take some of the bark off of the stick.

After finishing carving, I grabbed a marsh mellow and put it on the stick and made sure it would stay there and put it above the fire. Memories started to flood my mind of the past when me and my father would do this every night and talk about how the day went. He would always smile no matter where he went. He would make a person that just suffered something smile and feel at least a little bit happy. He would be kind to anyone even if he didn't know them. This would normally go through my mind every night to remember him, to never forget him. I was in the middle of thinking of the past so much that I didn't notice that Applejack had gotten up and walked towards me. She tapped me on the shoulder and I still didn't notice. She then started to shake my head side to side. This finally got my attention and I looked at her. A small unnoticable blush came to my face when I saw her face.

"What is it Applejack?" I asked with the kindest voice I could to keep her from noticing my anger.

"Your marsh mellow is a' burnin'."

I then looked at the end of the stick and saw that the marsh mellow was completely engulfed in fire and just move it out of the fire and blew it out. It wasn't burnt but it wasn't pure white. I just got a cracker and put a piece of chocolate on it and put the marsh mellow on it and then grabbed another cracker with a piece of chocolate on it and put it on top of the marsh mellow and squeezed it together. I looked at it and then to Applejack.

"You want it? I don't mind making another."

"You sure?"

I looked at her and smiled and nodded. She picked it up and took a bite out of it and began to chew on it with her mouth open and swallowed. She smiled at me to tell me it was good and that she liked it, but then she frowned.

"I'm a' mighty sorry for being so rude and eating with my mouth open."

"Don't worry about it. We are both country people or a person and a pony. Its not like I'm Rarity or something. I'm no where near into fashion. All I need is a sleeveless shirt and a pair of jeans to get me through the day."

She just smiled and continued to eat the smore.

I made another and started to eat it while watching Applejack.

"So, you know us, run an Orchard, Sell apples, and have a father that is dead. Do you at least have any friends?"

"Not really. Ya'll are my friends that are still alive that is."

Applejack looked shocked at what I said. "What happened to them?"

"You know that guy I killed?"

"Yea."

"He killed some of them, some of them got killed by disease, some of them got into fights that killed them, and some of them got cancer, a specific disease that is usually found in a specific organ and harms that organ. In fact the last friend I had died from brain cancer."

I looked at the ground with a frown remembering my best friend bill die right in front of me. I was visiting him when the cancer had done its final attack on him that was fatal. A few tears started to go down my face from the lose of all my friends and looked at Applejack. She walked up to me and hugged me trying to calm me down. I started to sniffle and try to get the tears off my face after a minute and looked back towards the ground and didn't feel good.

"At least you still got some family, right?"

"Nope, I had a brother, but he died from that killer because he was with my father when he killed him. My mother left my family after I was born or my father just told me that to keep me from crying when she actually died after giving birth to me. I found that out when I found her gravestone next to my fathers when they buried him."

I was about to start crying again because of how alone I felt. But I wasn't alone, I have new friends now, but they are probably going to go back to Equestria after what they do here.

"So what are ya'll doing here on earth anyway?"

I wanted to avoid the questions of my family now.

"We just came here to see what it was like here, but now I think we probably ain't coming here again anyway."

"You think I will be able to go with ya'll?"

"I a' don't know that myself, Brian. Maybe."

I looked at those green eye's to tell if she was telling the truth that I gained since I have heard a lot of lies in my life and have learned to tell if a person is lying or not. She looked like she was telling the truth and I just dropped the question and looked into the fire and just thought about Applejack.

'Wait a minute! Am I falling in love with Applejack?' I looked at Applejack and just blushed. I looked back at the fire. 'Whelp I guess that answers my question.'

I just smiled and looked at the smoke going into the sky with no care in the world. 'At least they don't have to deal with the hardships I had to go through in my life.'
