Sweet apples

morning full of surprises

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

After two hours I got up and walked to the trees to pick the apples like I normally do every morning and decided that since Applejack was here that I would actually try to kick the apples out of the first tree. I walked up to the tree and just did a side kick towards the middle of it. What shocked me was that one, the kick didn't hurt my foot, and two, and all of the apples came out of the tree. I smiled and picked them all up and tossed one to Applejack. She grabbed it and took a bite out of it and smiled after eating the apple. I just smiled and went back to work. I wanted to make sure that the first tree I kicked wasn't just luck and kicked another tree the same way and, again like last time, all the apples came out of the tree and smiled.

'Wow, I didn't know it was possible for a human to do that.' I looked at Applejack and my smile grew bigger.

"Can humans do that normally?"

"Not really. I'm surprised that this doesn't hurt my foot and that I'm actually getting apples out of the tree."

I kicked another tree and watched the apples fall. I looked at the ground and saw a coon and grabbed an apple and gave it to him. I didn't mind the coons they were just being normal and just trying to survive like I am. I watched it as it scurried away to its family.

After kicking more trees to get apples, I walked back collecting them to put into the back of the truck with the ones from yesterday.

'Maybe I should make an apple pie. Just to make some good food around here that my new friends could enjoy.'

I got ten fresh, bright red apples out of the trunk and washed them off. I began to peel them and cut them into pieces and used the skin as some flavor on the crust and use the rest of the apple to be cooked inside it. I put it into the oven when I was done to have it cook. Every couple of minutes I would check it. While I waited I walked to where the others slept only to find that they were still asleep. I looked into the sky to check the time.

'Well no wonder they are still asleep, it’s only six in the morning.'

I walked back the oven to check on the pie. It had a golden brown color on the crust that told me it was ready to be eaten and turned down the gauge on the oven to decrease the amount of heat going into the oven so it could stay warm while I wait for the others to get up.

After two hours they started to wake up and each got up to find a fire and me and Applejack talking to each other. We looked at the rest of the group and laughed. They had a serious case of bed hair that was so funny that I rolled on the ground from it. I sat back up and wiped the tear of laughter off of my face and got up and walked to the oven and pulled out the pie and saw that it was perfect. I made the pie in secret from Applejack so she would be surprised. I got seven plates and a couple of forks and walked back towards the group and when they saw me with the pie they looked surprised.

"What? I got something on my face or something?"

They looked at me and smiled. I put the pie down and cut it into seven equal pieces and put each one onto a plate and handed it to each one of them.

"Here ya’ go. I made this this mornin'. Hope ya'll like it."

I took a bite out of mine and tasted the sweet apples suddenly. I felt happy for what I made and watched their faces turn to ones of surprise when they each took a bite of the pie.

"Good pie huh?"

"Wow this here is a good pie. I have to ask you for your secret in the pie." I just laughed at that and just continued to eat the pie.

When we were all finished I got all the plates and went to the outside sink and washed them off.

"Ya'll want somethin' to drink?"

They all smiled and nodded. I walked to my truck and got seven water bottles out of the cooler I had in the trunk and walked back and handed it to them.

"So Twilight when are ya'll goin' back to Equestria?"

"Around two hours from now."

I looked at her with shock but then just calmed down. "Hey . . . um . . . Twilight, do you think I could go with ya'll?"

"I don't know Brian. Maybe I could try."

I felt happier knowing that I might be able to go with them. "But why do you want to leave here? Won't your friends miss you?"

I felt a sudden sadness well up within me remembering all my friends again.

"What friends."

I said that with a lowered tone that everyone could barely hear and looked at the ground and frowned.

"What do you mean 'What Friends'?"

"All the friends I had are dead. Even my family is dead. I'm all alone here."

I began to cry again from the feeling of loneliness gathering up inside me and looked away from the others to hide it. They all noticed but only Applejack knew why he was doing this. She knew that Twilight was probably going to ask that question and thought that was going to be tough for me. She came up to me and put her arm around my neck and hugged me. I began to slowly stop and looked at Applejack and the others. Applejack walked back to her friends and told them about all the hardships I have been going through in my life and how lonely I felt from it. They all looked at me. I was starting to wipe the tears off my face to get rid of them and walked over to the orchard to get it out of my mind.

When I got there I started to kick some tree's to get the apples, but mostly to get the thoughts out of my head. I had kicked around twenty trees in about ten minutes without caring who was watching or if I was hurting myself and kept on kicking trees until I couldn't feel my leg anymore. I limped back to my truck only to find all the others with their mouths wide open besides Applejacks.

"What? Just had to relief some stress. It’s not like I kicked down a tree."

Twilight nodded her head and pointed towards the first tree I kicked. I looked at it and found it on its side, realizing that had kicked it so hard that it had come out of the ground. My mouth went down like there was a thousand pound weight on it and looked at the others and pointed towards it. They all nodded their heads and looked at me. I slowly looked down at my leg to find that there was only a bruise on it and rubbed my eyes and looked at it again to see if my eyes were fooling me. They weren't. I looked at them all and slowly pulled my jaw back up. I shook my head and felt dizzy and decided to sit down. I put my head in my hands.

"How is this possible?" I quietly said that to myself making sure they wouldn't hear it.

"So, Brian, I know Applejack here told us about your family's deaths, but what I'm mostly concerned about is how you knew what the killer that killed your father looked like?"

I looked to the ground remembering to the past.

TWO YEARS AGO

I was riding with my father and brother back to the barn after a day of hard work. I had gotten tired and fell asleep in the back seat on the floor and was asleep for around two hours. I was then woken up by the sound of gunshots. I quickly jumped up to only find the person with the gun pointed at my father. My father had a hole in his head that I could easily fit my hand into. I started to cry only to stop myself to keep the killer from noticing, but a squeak came out between my lips and had reached the killers ears. He looked in the back seat to find me covering my mouth about to cry. He slowly walked towards the back door.

"Well look at what we got here. Another child."

He then aimed the gun at me. I thought I was about to have the same fate as my father and my brother, but was proven wrong when the killer only shot my stomach. He started to laugh at how I what he thought was going to be a suffering death. He walked back to his truck and drove off. I was able to get to the front of the truck and move my father. I began to drive as quickly as I could to the hospital to try to survive, to see if my family was just unconscious.

I got to the hospital just in time and ran inside with my hands covered in blood. My vision was beginning to fade as I entered. The nurse at the counter only took one look at me and called the doctors. Just as I was moved towards a stretcher I had blacked out, thinking I was going to die.

I woke up five days later to find some of my friends around me to be there for me. I smiled as they came up to me. They all had the feeling of happiness when they saw me wake up. A doctor entered and told my friends to leave since he had something to tell me.

"I'm sorry, but your father and brother didn't make it."

"W-W-What, they died." Tears started to form in my eyes.

"Yes, I'm sorry for your lose." He was beginning to leave, but I stopped him before he could reach the door.

"One question before you leave doctor."

"Yes?"

"Did they suffer?" I had to know if they suffered or not.

"They did not suffer as much as you did." And with that the doctor left the room.

A small smile came to my face as I realized at least they didn't suffer like I did. I looked out the window and a small song came to my mind that my father used to sing. He had a good voice that I had inherited from him. He would sing it when I or my brother felt down. I played that song repeatedly through my head to try and relax.

FIVE WEEKS LATER

I was looking at my father and my brother for the last time before they got buried into the ground. I had tears going down my eyes as I watched the men lower them into the dirt. I looked at the tombstones and more tears started to form, but something caught my eye. I saw something next to my father’s grave that was really close to it. It was another tombstone, only this one was in a different shape.

After everyone left, I walked towards the other tombstone and read whose it was. I realized that it was my mother’s name on it. I read the sentence below it explaining how she died.

'Died December 12, 1987. Died at giving birth to her second child.'

After reading the sentence I stumbled back and tripped on a rock. I stared at all three of the gravestones and started to cry into my arms.

After the funeral I got in my truck and drove to the farm. I had to continue to live on with this and try to make another family, but the effects of seeing my own family took a toll on me. I wouldn't speak to no one unless I knew them already. As the next couple of months past I was beginning to get out of that state only to return to it, but not as bad, when my last friend, Bill, had died from Brain Cancer. Ever since then I tried to keep a smile on my face like my father did and look after the farm.

I began to watch 'My Little Pony' to have the feeling that I still had friends.

PRESENT

After I finished what I had said, everypony looked at me with tears in their eyes.

“‘Sniff’ so that’s why you recognized that man at first sight."

I only nodded feeling the pain of losing my family years ago return. I slowly began to cry into my arms, but was soon relaxed by everypony hugging me to get me to relax.

After what seemed like hours, they started to back away from the hug. I stood up and looked at my friends.

"So, Twilight, will I be able to go?"

"Like I said before, Brian, I don't know, but after hearing about your past I will not stop trying to get you out of this horrible world."

I only smiled and looked at the sky. I suddenly felt an arm reach around my own and squeeze it. I looked at my arm to find Applejack. She still had tears going down her face. I slowly hugged her to find her relaxing quickly. I backed away with a blush on my face when I noticed that she wiped the tears away. I looked at her to notice that she was also blushing. I quickly looked away and towards the others to see if they noticed. They were all looking the other way.

'Probably trying to think of a way to get me out of here.'

I looked back at Applejack and smile and she smiled back. We both decided to walk off and let the others think. I decided to pass time by practice using my lasso. I grabbed the rope off the truck and went towards the orchard. Applejack followed me. I looked at a branch and concentrated on it. I began to spin the rope above my head and aimed towards the branch and threw the rope. I caught the branch and I yanked back. The branch broke and fell to the ground to my surprise.

'Got to work on how much power I use on the pull.' I untied the rope from the branch and looked at Applejack who had her mouth open.

"What? I know you can lasso and do the same thing."

"I know, I just didn't know you were that good."

'She thinks I'm good?' I just pushed that thought into the back of my brain and continued to untie the rope.

I got it untied and decided to do it to a moving object.

'I wonder if Applejack can throw an apple really fast to give me a challenge.' But unknowing to me I actually said that out loud than thought of it. I looked at Applejack and she just smiled and grabbed and apple. I got the rope ready.

"Ok, Applejack, you can throw the apple now."

As soon as she threw the apple I concentrated on it and aimed. I threw the rope and watched it hit its target and pulled it tight. I had caught the apple in the middle of the air.

'Dang! I didn't even think that was possible!' I smiled and pulled the rope and watched as the apple came back towards me and I caught it in mid-flight. I then took a bight out of it and smiled. I looked at her to find her mouth down. I walked up to her and pulled up her jaw. She just smiled and looked at me. I looked at her and we both seemed to blush at the same time. I rubbed the back of my head and smiled at her. She began to move her head closer to mine. I knew were this was going and just smiled. She moved quicker and her lips met mine. I rapped my arms around her and hers rapped around me.

We kissed for what seemed like an hour. I slowly backed away and looked at her. She only looked at me and mouthed the words 'Where have you been all my life.' I hugged her and decided that I had enough practice and started to move back towards to others.
