~Chapter 1~
A young Pegasus flew as fast as his little wings could go through the halls of the Manehattan Hospital. He searched high and low for the room number. That was the only thing on his mind at that single moment. 'Room 006' the little colt thought to himself. As he searched high and low for the room, he was beginning to panic. Maybe he wouldn't be able to find the room. Maybe the room is already empty and he wouldn't see him again. Just when he about given up hope, a hoof touched him on the shoulder and pulled him around.
"What are you doing roaming around little one?" said a purple mare. The colt seen that this mare was a member of the hospital. "I'm...I'm looking for my daddy." he said with a hesitant voice as he looked left and right. The mare's smile slowly faded away and looked at the young colt. He was, what looked to be at least, five years old. The colts coat was white and had a little dirt on it considering his flight to the hospital. His mane was a chestnut color that was styled up and layed backwards. The colts tail was the same color, but shorter and in a messy style. And the colts eyes were wide and brown as he looked straight at the mare with a scared look in his eyes.
"Well sweetheart, whats your daddy's name?" "Technician" he said now with a shaky voice "I think hes in room 006". The mares expression was now of a little filly about to go into a haunted stable. The colt looked at her confused. The mare shook her head. "I know who your looking for child. Follow me." she nugged the colt in front of her and she proceeded to lead him to room 006.
As much as the colt didn't know who the mare was, he knew he could trust her. If it wasn't for her nurse uniform, he would of flew away. As his mother always said, Never trust a stranger my son.
They finally made it to the room that the colt was looking for. On a golden plaque on the door revealed what he was looking for. 006. "Your dad is in here sweetie. Ill be back to see how you two are doing." said the purple mare as she opened the door and started walking down the hall. The colt stood in place for a few seconds to realize that his father was in the room. He stepped in. The first thing the colt saw was a adult brown colt in a hospital bed with an IV and an EKG hooked up to the stallion. The colt looked at the child. He cough and then spoke in a low smokey voice. "Blitz. Hey buddy." Blitz stood in place. As he looked at his father in the bed he felt a huge pain sweep over him. Not a pain that one would feel when injured, but one of sadness. He walked forward. "Daddy?" he said with a shaky voice. The colt shook his head. " Hello son." Blitz flew up onto the hospital bed and found a comfortable spot to lay down. "Dad. Whats wrong with you?" he said. The colt coughed into his shoulder and spoke. "I'm sick Blitz. I've been sick for a while now. This is the most I have been sick for in a long time." Blitz looked at the heart monitor as he was trying to find out what was really going on. "Why are you sick daddy?" he said as he looked into the stallion's bloodshot eyes. " I have a case of the flu is all son." he said as he yet again coughed and was now starting to get the sniffles. The colt knew he had seen this type of illness before. "Did mommy have the same type of flu daddy?" The stallion looked at the monitors as he stalled to give his son an answer. Blitz looked at his dad as he could see the tears now forming in his eyes. "Yeah." he said in a sad tone. Blitz scooted closer to his father. When he found a comfortable spot, Blitz rested his head on his dads chest. All that was heard in the room was the sound of beeping and the smokey breaths that came from his father.
At this moment the same nurse Blitz saw earlier walked in. "Mr. Technician?" she asked. Both Blitz and his father looked at the mare. "Mr. Technician, we have some news for you. But I think your son should not hear what I have to say." The stallion shook his head. Blitz looked at his father. "Daddy? What is she talking about?" he said with a worried look on his face. Technician stroked his coat and answered in a dim voice. "She just wants to tell me something really quick son. Go outside and wait until you can come in again, OK." Blitz shook his head slowly and hopped down from the hospital bed. "This will only take a second sweetie" said the nurse as she nugged Blitz outside. Blitz looked back in the room for a moment. He seen how his dad was not acting like himself. Technician looked to be scared right before the nurse closed the door.
The colt backed away from the door and observed the hallway he was waiting in. He seen a whole bunch of ponies. So many ponies he didn't even know. Blitz was starting to panic yet again. He didn't like being around colts and mares he didn't know about. The potential fear of being kidnapped always hung within the balance of his youthful mind. Blitz started to trot around the building. He looked for a place where he would be alone and not have to be noticed by any of the other ponies. He later found a small room with a name on the door that read 'janitors closet'. He entered and closed the door. It was dark inside the room and Blitz tried to find the nearest light switch. He felt around the room. He felt alot of objects. Cold, hot, smooth, rough, spongy, soapy, and various other items. Finally he felt a switch. Blitz flipped it and the lights turned on.
As Blitz turned around he was greeted to an open room. It was small but it was good enough for the young colt. He trotted over to the cleanest corner in the room, stretched out his wings, and sat down. Blitz thought to himself. Was his father going to be OK? Will he get any better? Is he going to die? All these thoughts were clouding the young colts mind as all he could do was weep in his own confusion. Blitz tried not to be loud as he sobbed to himself, for he was scared somepony would come in and catch him.
As he was crying he heard hoof steps. He stopped and kept quiet. Blitz looked around the room for somepony. "Are you OK?" said a voice. Blitz stood up. "Hello? W...Who's there?" Their was movement. Some boxes moved around. Blitz backed away, not trusting who it was behind them. It could be a stranger, or a ghost, or even a monster. The figure appeared.
It was a filly about the same age as Blitz. She had a cyan coat with a long rainbow mane and tail. Blitz looked at the filly with confusion. "Are you going to answer my question?" she said concerned. Blitz stalled to answer. He wasn't sure what to say. This was the first filly who actually talked to him. Her pink eyes stared straight at Blitz. The filly's gaze felt like it was staring right into Blitz's soul. The colts mind then went blank. The filly giggled. "Are you just gonna stand there or are you gonna say something?" she said in a voice that pierced Blitz's heart. "Uh....I...I...." he stuttered. "You. You, what?" said the filly. "I don't talk to strangers." Blitz said in a shy voice. The filly looked at the colt in confusion. Then she spoke. "Oh. My bad. My name is Rainbow Dash. But my friends call me RD. Whats your name?" Knowing the filly's name now he felt more comfortable to talk to her. "Blitz. My name is Blitz." he said in a better more heard voice. "Nice name. Sounds cool." she said as she punched him lightly. "See we are no longer strangers. So, what are you doing in here?"
"I wanted to get away from all the ponies out in the hall. I really don't like to talk to ponies I don't know." Blitz said. Dash nodded her head as she walked around the room observing all the equipment. "I see. You're really shy huh?" Blitz nodded and looked around the room then back at Dash. "What are you doing in here?" he asked the cyan Pegasus. "I'm in here because my dad is in this hospital because of a flying accident. He broke his wing and he is getting it fixed and he is doing pretty good right now. I got bored after he fell asleep, so I decided to start walking around this place. That's when I seen the cool stuff in here and I decided to stick around this place. I was almost caught coming in here so I came in with the lights off and hid. The doctor looked around but he didn't see me. That's when he left and then you showed up." She stretched her wings and sat in the same spot Blitz did earlier. Blitz walked up beside her. "My dad is here too." he said as he sat down.
Dash looked at the colt. "Really? What for?" she asked with a curious look on her face. Blitz looked down at his hooves. "Hes sick. I don't know how bad, but I hope he is alright." He kicked a small piece of brick across the room with his forehoof. "Oh." said the filly. She looked at the brick Blitz kicked. "Well, I hope he gets better." she said in a reassuring tone. "I do too." It was quiet for a few seconds. The silence was broken with the sound of Blitz's voice. "So, what do you wanna do when you grow up?" Dash looked at Blitz and smiled. "You know who the Wonderbolts are right?" Blitz shook his head. Dash stood up and turned to face him. "What do you mean no?" she said in a very surprised voice. Blitz recoiled, scared that he may of made her mad. " The Wonderbolts are only the greatest fliers in all of Equestria! They do tricks, put on shows, and put their audiences in aww!" she said making a expression of a pony surprised from a Wonderbolt performance. Blitz giggled at the filly's silly face. "They sound pretty cool." Blitz said. Dash flew up off the ground, and she was hovered in the air. "They do a whole bunch of moves!" the excited filly said in a mid back flip. Dash showed the colt all the moves that she knew the Wonderbolts would always pull off. After she showed him their famous move 'The Tornado Twirl' she landed back on the ground, dizzy from all the spins, twists, and turns. She was panting. "That's what... I wanna do when... I grow up." Blitz was amazed at the filly. She had such an excitement for the Wonderbolts, she actually practices moves by them.
"So...What do...you wanna be...when you grow up...?" Dash said still trying to catch her breath. Blitz thought. He always wanted to be a football player. He loved the game and how his favorite team always won. "A football player. I wanna play football." He answered. Dash finally caught her breath and sat down. "Football huh?" she said with a chuckle, "You colts and your sports." They both laughed and giggled. Blitz enjoyed one of the first friend he ever had. He actually felt something else for her. He didn't know what it was, but it made him feel good inside. Right when they were about to change the subject, the door opened. It was another nurse.
"What are you two doing here?" she said in a strict voice. Blitz and Dash sat and said nothing. The nurse tsked, "You two shouldn't be in here. Get outta here before I tell your parents where you two have been." Both Blitz and Dash's eyes lit up and the two flew outta the closet and into the hallway. "Run along you two. Your parents must be worried sick."
Blitz then realized about his dad. "Oh No!" said the colt. Dash looked at Blitz. "What is it?" she said concerned. "Dash, my dad! I forgot I was suppose to go back and see whats wrong with him! I gotta go now!" Blitz turned around and started to trot to room 006. "Wait!" Dash called out to Blitz. He stopped and turned around. Dash galloped to Blitz. As she caught up to him she embraced him in a hug. Blitz was shocked at first considering that the filly was showing this kind of affection. Usually his mother and father gave him a hug, but being hugged by a filly he just met, it didn't make since to him. But he didn't care. He returned with a friendly hug back. Dash spoke, "Wanna hang out after you see how your dad is doing?" Blitz smiled and broke the hug. "Defiantly." he said. He turned away and trotted back to see his father.
As Blitz approached the room, something was amiss. The door was open and their were sounds of beeping. Not the beeping he heard earlier. These beeps were slower, more distant. Blitz entered to see his father still lying in the spot where he was. "Daddy?" Blitz called out. The brown stallion responded. "Hey Buddy. Where did you go?" he asked. But he sounded more lighter. More quieter. "I went to go use the bathroom." Blitz lied. He knew his father would be disappointed if he knew where he was. "What did the nurse say?" The stallion sighed. "Come here Blitz." he said adding a cough at the end of his sentence. Blitz flew up besides his father. He put his hoof around Blitz. "Blitz." he said in a low voice. "Blitz. I'm dying." Blitz felt that huge pain he felt earlier return. As if his coat faded away a little. "D...Dying...?" he said in a shaky voice. His father shook his head, with tears forming in his eyes. "No. No." Blitz said denying what his father said. "You cant die daddy." "Blitz. Buddy. Its my time. I have been called. Its OK. I wont be alone. Ill have your mother with me." he said now sounding a little light headed. All Blitz could do was listen to what his father had to say. There was nothing he could do. He started to cry. "Blitz. Pleases don't cry." Technician said trying not to cry. "Listen to me." He lifted Blitz chin so he could look at him while he spoke. "Your gonna be moving in with your aunt and sister. The nurse is making the arrangements now." Blitz pushed his fathers hoof away and looked down now crying his eyes out. "B..B..But D..Daddy..." "Blitz. Ill be fine. For now, I want you to take of your family. Your the man of the family now. Promise me. Promise me you'll take care of them and you'll never forget about me."
Blitz looked at his father in his eyes. He knew his father felt the same pain he was feeling. "I..I Pr..Promise." Blitz said in his shaky voice. His father whipped the tears in Blitz's eyes and pulled him into a hug. Blitz couldn't believe he would lose his father. He has taken care of him ever since his mother died. They shared so much together. From when Blitz could first fly, to the time he could talk in full sentences. The memories rushed throughout the young colts mind as each moment made him cry more and more. The last thing he felt from his father was a kiss on his head and then his tight hug slowly become less tighter. Then the moment came, when the beeps on the IV was nothing but one long beep.
That moment made Blitz wanna never leave his fathers side. He just wanted to lie there and sleep with his dad. As Blitz cuddled with his father the nurse came in and took Blitz away. Blitz struggled to get back to him but he was too weak. As Blitz was escorted outta the room he seen one pony standing outside the room. It was her the filly with the rainbow mane, cyan coat, and pink eyes. Rainbow Dash ran after Blitz, but was stopped by the other nurses and doctors. Blitz couldn't say a word. He was too heartbroken to say even one word.
So he watched as the doctors escorted his father outta the room and down the hall, he seen his closest friend he ever had taken away from him, and he knew that he would never see his father or his best friend ever again. The nurse then gave Blitz to his aunt, but he was still struggling. His aunt had to calm Blitz down. He was outta control. As they left the hospital Blitz had calmed down enough to fly with his aunt to her home in Las Pegasus.
Blitz looked back at the doors. He seen her. He seen Rainbow Dash. Blitz turned around and started to walk back to the doors, but was his aunt called his name. Blitz gave Dash one long look. As he looked into her eyes, he knew she was sorry for him and she wanted to know where he was going. As much as Blitz wanted to talk to her one more time, he just turned back around and flew off with his aunt into the night sky. He hoped one day he would meet her again. "One day." Blitz whispered to himself, "One day."
