Caribou Raiders: Engla's Task
Introductions
Previous ChapterNext ChapterDiscord looked over his work. All the strange boar like creatures were standing on their hind legs. Some were dancing, others were giving their owners a concert with drums, trumpets, violins and he had even given one of them a piano. He himself was wearing a fancy purple suit that sparkled in the sunlight.
"Heeeelloooo, Equestrian Grasslands, how are you doing today?"
Scared and angry. That's how the residents of the Equestrian Grasslands were doing. Some of the cows were screaming their lungs out while the males were drawing their swords and getting ready to fire their bows at him. Discord snapped his fingers and everything went back to normal.
"Not that big music fans I see."
But the bucks kept their swords pointed at him and their bows drawn. Only when an armored Caribou ran out of one of the tents and shouted something completely unintelligible to Discord did they lower their weapons. And then next to him came out an absolute bombshell. Breasts that defied gravity just like Fluttershy's and were almost as large. Hips that were wider and a face almost just as cute. Besides the flowers in her hair, she wasn't wearing anything. In fact, all of the females here were naked. Right. Discord blushed. While he loved to lose himself in clusterfucks like the one he had just created, they did make little details like that hard to spot.
This was awkward. It reminded him of the time he had walked in on Fluttershy showering. He both loved that moment and hated that he loved it. It had made all kinds of feelings come back to him. He had to move on from both that and this. He snapped his fingers again and he was wearing a copy Rarity's white dress and her red glasses, though he had to admit the outfit didn't fit him as well as it did her.
"I simply cannot let such a crime against fabulosity go uncorrected!" Discord cried out, in a tone mocking the fashionista's voice.
With every snap of Discord's fingers, another dress appeared on another Caribou cow's body. Most of them clumsily started fumbling to try and take it back off.
"Enough!" a tinny voice commanded.
Discord stopped. Another armored Caribou had appeared next to the first one. He was holding a black cube which was the source of the voice and he was giving Discord the most angry glare he had ever seen.
"By The Two Faced God, Ortwin., behave yourself or I will give you a taste of switching." the other armored Caribou scolded.
Ortwin tried to conceal his outrage as well as he could.
"Brother Discord,..." the first armored Caribou turned to him "while you are our most honored guest, we do not appreciate you mocking our customs like this. Even if they are different than yours, you must respect them."
Discord grunted. "I was just having a bit of fun."
He snapped his fingers and the white dress was replaced with his customary jester outfit.
"Get rid of all of those clothes you conjured." the armored Caribou continued.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
With another snap, the dresses the cows were wearing disappeared.
"You must be Khagan Dainn. You're the talk of the town in Canterlot."
Dainn lifted his eyebrow at the last sentence but quickly hid his curiosity.
"Indeed." he confirmed.
"Well, what is this "prophesy" you had to tell me about?"
"I dreamed of my true love, Discord." the cow said.
Even though she was speaking the Caribou's weird language, Discord could hear the passion in her voice.
"And who might that be?"
"You."
Discord started mumbling. This was not at all what he had expected to find here. A thousand little things spun in his head. He did not deserve to be loved. He was a coward. Thousands, millions of ponies had confessed their feelings. Foals had done it in schools on Hearts and Hooves Day. Yet he, the spirit of chaos, day after day had failed to confess his real feelings to Fluttershy. And the clock was ticking. A pony's lifespan is so short when you're immortal. Cowards don't deserve love, especially not from Fluttershy. Yet here was this complete stranger offering it anyway.
"But... how can she have had a dream when..." a clearly drunk Caribou stammered.
"Why don't you have another cup of airag, Ivangir?" another Caribou interrupted and shoved the cup in his face before said Ivangir could say yes.
"I... I don't even know your name."
"Engla. Now you do."
Discord again lost his tongue. Engla walked closer to him.
"i know you're scared, Discord. But Caribou dreams do not lie."
Love on first sight. This only belonged in fairy tales. This simply didn't make sense.
"Oh, what fun is there in making sense?" a little voice in his head reminded him of his own words.
He wanted to believe her. That a coward like him deserved her love. Perhaps she wasn't the pegasus mare he lived with, but someone like him couldn't be picky. Fluttershy was too good for him.
"Should... should I take you to dinner?"
"Just take me some place far away from here that's truly your own. My dream told me that we'd live there happily ever after."
"Won't you miss your friends here, Engla?"
She couldn't help but give a sad look to Dainn. He nodded at her.
"I will. But love is worth it."
"Can't I just come back with you once in a while?" Discord asked, confused.
"No... My dream forbade it."
Dainn stroked his chin.
"Only once. Her dream told her she could come back only once. To do me a great favor." Dainn jumped in.
"Yes,.... of course!" Engla confirmed quickly.
"You're... not going to like this place that's truly mine."
Engla kneeled before him.
"I am. I swear I will."
And with another snap of Discord's fingers they both disappeared.
Author's Note
My attempt here was to portray Discord as an incredibly emotionally weak character that tries to cover it up with mischief. Don't know if I really succeeded.
