Chapter 2: A new world

Previous Chapter

It was pitch black or seemingly so, once my eyes adjusted I found that in fact was not pitch black just really dark. Looking up I saw that the moon was missing. I saw that Doodle was seemingly having the same thoughts judging by the confusion coming off of her. 'Eugh confusion tastes like moldy bread. Actually, I wonder why that is I guess I'll ask Doodle and see if she knows.' Focusing back on my new surroundings I couldn't see much as it was indeed the night. But from what I could tell we were in a desert of sorts. But something was off it wasn't natural the way the sand dunes all seemed to be formed in one direction. How the sand was scorched black. Hell the place seemed to be speaking to me and it was saying one thing. 'You may be alive now but I'll get you eventually. One day maybe tomorrow or maybe in a thousand years, but I will KILL you.' It admittedly was sorta freaking me out. I looked to Doodle who seemed to notice my uneasiness and said.

"whats going on?," Doodle cocked her head to the side slightly, "You seem uneasy something wrong?"

I looked around before saying "Oh it's nothing really just this place seems to want to kill everything.'

"Is that not to be expected it is the wasteland after all.

"I know just makes me uneasy ya know."

Doodle just nodded before looking down to her pipbuck before saying. "Well, we appear to be in what once was a desert just north of Appaloosa. So I guess that is where we should head there aren't any roads near and we are only about a days trot to Appaloosa."

I nodded and turned to the south than said "Well let's go" Then we began to walk towards Appaloosa Completely unaware of what we were about to get ourselves into.

"So have you ever wondered what it's like to taste something wanting to kill you? No, well imagine the worst tasting thing you can imagine. Now multiply that by 10. There ya go, now imagine every time you inhale tasting that. Then on top of all of that, you can feel it looking at you even though nothing is there. Now you have what being out here is like for me every second." I made sure to put emphasis on "Every".

Doodle gave me a sideways glance as she absentmindedly looked at her pipbuck. "That doesn't sound pleasant in the slightest. You know I can't believe some ponies thought there was no outside. Empirically that makes no sense, for Celestia's sake do ponies never think!"

I laughed a little at her last remark "Sometimes I don't think they do. The idiot that kicked me in the face is example A. So how much further do we have to go?"

"Errr...", She squinted at the screen in mock contemplation before saying, " If my calculations are correct we started walking 5 minutes ago."

"Oh"

"Are we there yet?"

Doodle groaned "No"

"How about now?"

"No"

"Aaaarrreee we there... NOW?"

"NO we aren't there now could you shut the fuck up already!"

I laughed "Fine Moooommm"

Doodle and I could see the outline of Appaloosa in the distance. From this distance of roughly a half to 3/4 of a mile, they could see it was a small town with what appeared to be an apple orchard next to it. The town also had a large number of trains in it, the town also best of all from what they could see was untouched.

"My legs feel like swiss cheese and the holes aren't making that any better," I complained to her.

"Bah stop whining were almost there only like an hour more." Doodle said looking at me.

"What do you mean we're already here," I said pointing at the town which was now right in front of us.

"Wha... how WHAT?"

"No no calm down the author is bad at time progression so he just had us here because of reasons for the sake of the reader's brains," I said to Doodle in the least patronizing way I could.

"Readers... Author... Wha. You know what nope let's just explore the town."
I nodded and we began to look around the town was In fact just two roads with shops and buildings along the sides. The town was in surprisingly good shape with only the houses on the side of town the bombs were closest to being crumbled. There were shops down one of the roads and houses on another. The houses appeared to have mostly shielded things like the shops, barn, and the train station. The town was very clean all things considered. Although I'm not sure if the lack of enemies or other ponies out here should make me feel better or not.

The train station was full of train cars although oddly enough the train engine was missing I have no idea how that is possible but it's just gone. As Doodle and I walked around the town we found what appeared to be a sheriffs office of sorts.

"Soooo do you think we should go in?" I asked Doodle looking at her.

"I don't see why not, I mean it's not like anypony lives here."

"You just had to say that last part didn't you." I sighed and began to walk off while Doodle looked at me confused.

I walked up o the door and tried to open the door only to find it locked. Now I may not be an expert on locks but I do know one very good way to open a lock. I pulled out my revolver, aimed it at the lock than pulled the trigger. *BLAM* The doorknob was destroyed and I pushed the door open. I step into the building and am immediately greeted with a laser rifle point blank in my face.

"And this Doodle is why you never say things like that. Because you always Fucking JINX IT!" I say glaring at her.

I turn back to the pony that has a gun pointed at my face. "We don't want any trouble now."

"Well, that's funny because neither do we," I said simply.

"Than why may I ask did you shoot off the lock?" He said raising an eyebrow.

I go to speak but Doodle beats me to it. "We are very sorry about that." She says shooting me a look, " We were under the impression that nopony was living here."

He lets out a long sigh. "Well alright then I'll let you two stay for now but if you want to live here you gotta help us first."

'Oh, I love where this is going' I think sarcastically to myself before saying "What do you need help with?"

"Well, I know you two just got out of a stable but there's a group of ponies that have been threatening us for weeks now, and I would like you to take them out." The stallion says in a very businesslike tone.

"Hmm well... Wait How did you know about us being from a stable?" I say somewhat alarmed before I hear doodle facehoof and say.

"Look at what you're wearing." She says deadpanning.

I look down at my stable barding and pipbuck. "Oh right"

I clear my throat and continue saying "Well anyways sure I have three new toys and I wanna play with em."

"Wait! You're thinking about just going out and killing ponies!" Doodle yells in disbelief.

I just look at her and say "Well I don't like it either but they've been threatening a town for weeks I doubt that they are gonna be too friendly."

She huffs but says no more instead glaring at me. The stallion clears is throat and says "Well then we got a deal you deal with them and you are welcome here any time you like."

I look to my pipbuck as it dings and marks the location on my map as '(Unknown faction) basecamp' I nod and begin walking away with a slightly peeved Doodle in tow.

'Well, shit... This is my life now isn't it.'

Footnote: level up

Perk added Bluntness: Your general Bluntness about things can give you an advantage when talking to less friendly ponies and when trying to threaten. Although it can deture possible Ally's.
